A. Wayne Findley
A. Wayne Findley, the son of the late Alfred L. and Pearl King Findley was born in Puxico on Nov. 22, 1928 and died at his home in Puxico on Nov. 10, 2001, at the age of 72. Mr. Findley had lived all his life in the Puxico and Poplar Bluff areas. He was a retired Missouri State Highway Patrol Commercial Vehicle Inspector, was affiliated with the Baptist Church and a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Signal Corps. On July 29, 1972, he was united in marriage to Beverly Siler in Puxico, she survives of the home. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Ronnie D. Stuart of Wappapello; by two grandchildren; by two brothers, F.A. Findley of Poplar Bluff and Ray Dean Findley of Columbia; and by one sister, Wanda Parker of Columbia. Visitation will be held at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Puxico on Tuesday, Nov. 13 after 5 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 10 a.m. in the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Puxico with Rev. Ray Placher and Elder Jerry Park, both of Puxico, officiating. Interment will follow in the Puxico Cemetery with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Puxico in charge of all arrangements.
Charles Goss
Charles "Herman" Goss of Cahokia, Ill., was born Sept. 9, 1931 in Arbyrd and died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001, at his residence. A former Dexter resident, he was the retired owner/operator of Goss Tree Service in Cahokia and was a member of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church of Cahokia. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Goss; his parents, Charlie and Lessle (nee Black) Goss; and a brother, Curtis Goss.
Mr. Goss is survived by his wife, Reva Berneice (nee Reaves) Goss; four daughters, Brenda Steiger of Belleville, Ill., Diana Goss of Seattle, Wash., Shirley "Penny" J. Roach of Walmeyer, Ill., and Laura Goss of Belleville, Ill.; a son, Glenn Goss of Belleville, Ill.; two brothers, David (Thelma) Goss of Sun Valley, Calif.; and Joe (Jocelyn) Goss of Riverside, Calif.; four sisters, Christine Morrow of Fontana, Calif., Jean (Morris) Wolfs of Cypress, Calif., Shirley Kittrell of Whittier, Calif., and Bonnie (Butch) Shaffer of Visalia, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was a dear brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend.
Visitation was held from 2-7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, at the Braun Colonial Funeral Home in Cahokia, Ill. Additional visitation will be held from noon until 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday in the Watkins and Sons Chapel. Burial will be in Hagy Cemetery, Dexter.
Marion Mitchell
Marion Mitchell, son of the late Willie Mitchell and Anna Ledbetter Mitchell, was born on Aug. 31, 1924 at Essex and died in the Hunter Acres Care Center in Sikeston on Nov. 7, 2001, at the age of 77. Mr. Mitchell attended the Hopewell General Baptist Church at Frisco, was a retired line worker for General Motors in Flint, Mich., a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II, and a resident of rural Dexter. He was first united in marriage to Virginia Lawrence on Aug. 8, 1946 at Dexter, she preceded him in death on March 22, 1996. He then married Sue Sides Joseph on Jan. 16, 1999 at the Hopewell General Baptist Church at Frisco, she survives of the home.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Mike Mitchell of Puyallup, Wash. and Reed Mitchell and wife, Joyce of Shoreline, Wash.; by one step-son, Terry Joseph of Wappapello; by one stepdaughter, Karen McHand of Olive Branch, Miss.; by seven grandchildren, Heather and Stan Warren, Stephanie Mitchell, Jimi Mitchell, Michelle and Brock Milliern, Nichole Mitchell, Rachael Mitchell and Spencer Mitchell; by ten step-grandchildren; by three step-great grandchildren and several cousins. Besides his first wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Neil Mitchell and one step-daughter, Johnette Hurley.
Visitation will be held at the Rainey Funeral Home in Dexter from 5 - 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9, 2001. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001 in the Rainey Funeral Chapel with Rev. Martin Goode officiating. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery with Rainey Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of all arrangements. At the request of the family, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer Association.
Myrtle McGowen
Myrtle McGowen, daughter of the late J.O. Carter and Dora Ketcherside Carter, was born on Oct. 6, 1927 at Ellsinore and died in the Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter on Nov. 8, 2001, at the age of 74. Mrs. McGowen was a homemaker and a resident of Dexter. On Jan. 26, 1943 she was united in marriage to Charles McGowen at Malden, he survives of the home in Dexter. Besides her parents, she is survived by Carla Ross of Dudley, who was raised in the home as a daughter; by one brother, Irvon Carter of Dexter; and by one sister, Ira Mae Abbott of Dexter. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Henry Carter. Visitation will be held at the Rainey Funeral Home in Dexter on Friday, Nov. 9 from 5 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the Rainey Funeral Chapel on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dean Williams and Rev. Dale Hartle officiating. Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery with Rainey Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of all arrangements.
Charles A. Crawford
Charles A. Crawford, the son of the late William O. and Leona Clayton Crawford, was born in Puxico on Jan. 15, 1946 and died at his home near Wappapello on Nov. 7, 2001, at the age of 55. Mr. Crawford had lived in the Puxico and Wappapello communities all his life. He was a carpenter and a receiving clerk with Rowe Furniture. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Poplar Bluff and a member of the Amateur Ham Radio Club. He was united in marriage to Della Landers in St. Louis on Aug. 17, 1965, she survives of the home in Wappapello. Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Lisa Hendry of Wappapello; by one grandson; and by one brother, Bill Crawford of Wappapello. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Nov. 8 after 6 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Puxico. Funeral services will follow in the Watkins & Sons Chapel at 7 p.m. on Nov. 8 with Bro. Glenn Marshall of Poplar Bluff officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 9 in the Puxico Cemetery in Puxico with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Puxico in charge of all arrangements.
Shirley Jean O'Hare Spangler
Shirley Jean O'Hare Spangler of St. Louis, the daughter of Frank K. and Marie Jones O'Hare, was born on July 12, 1945 in Dexter and died on Friday, Nov. 2, 2001 at St. John's Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis at the age of 56. She is survived by her children, Gregory, Delinda and Micheila and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Nov. 6 at the Schrader Funeral Home in Ballwin with Fr. Joseph Monahan officiating. Interment followed in the Dexter Cemetery with Schrader Funeral Home in charge of all arrangements.
Alice McQueen
Alice McQueen, the daughter of the late Marion and Gladys Birmingham Brady, was born in Walnut Ridge, Ark. on Feb. 20, 1931 and died at her home near Bloomfield on Nov. 5, 2001, at the age of 70. Mrs. McQueen had lived in Tenn. and Ark. before moving to Bloomfield 35 years ago. She was a homemaker and a member of the Missionary Baptist Church in Yarbro, Ark. She was a life member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary, the D.A.V., the Sheriff's Association and the N.R.A. She was united in marriage on June 7, 1961 to Ray McQueen in Blytheville, Ark. He preceded her in death on April 14, 1983. Surviving are two sons, Alan McQueen and John R. McQueen, both of Bloomfield; one daughter, Linda Ottinger of Smyrna, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Oscar Brady of Bloomfield and Utah Brady of Houston, Texas; and one sister, Winnona McGuire of Gulfport, Miss. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Tim Alan McQueen on May 17, 1983; by one granddaughter, Tanya Ottinger in 1991; by two brothers, Melton T. and Rudolf Brady; and by one sister, Launa Rambo. Visitation will be held at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter on Thursday, Nov. 8 from 5 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, Nov. 9 at 10:30 a.m. in the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with Rev. Melvin Gainer of Dexter officiating. Interment will follow in the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of all arrangements.
Herman B. Williamson
Herman B. Williamson, son of the late Oscar Franklin Williamson and Ollie Pry Williamson, was born on August 17, 1918, in Bloomfield, and departed this life in the Missouri Southern Healthcare Emergency Room in Dexter on November 2, 2001 at the age of 83 years.
Mr. Williamson, of the Baptist faith, retired from the U. S. Navy after serving in World War 2, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. He was a resident of Dexter. He was united in marriage to Margaret (Marge) Reynolds on December 17, 1981, in Dexter. Mrs. Williamson currently lives in the home in Dexter. Survivors include three sons, David Williamson of Winfield; Herman (John Williamson of Bloomfield; and Rick Williamson of Cambridge, new Jersey; one daughter, Candy Lynne Williamson of New York; two brothers, Arvel Williamson of Dexter; and Kenneth Williamson of Bloomfield; by two sisters, Edith Scism of Warrensburg, Missouri; and Oma Matthews of Iuka, Illinois; also nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, at infancy, and by two sisters, Lucille Spangler and Louise Neal. Friends may call at the Rainey Funeral Home in Dexter from 5 until 8 P.M., Saturday, November 3, 2001. Funeral services will be conducted in the Rainey Funeral Chapel on Sunday, November 4, 2001, at 2 P.M. with Rev. Dean Williams officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery near Puxico.
