Charles Harlan
Charles D. Harlan, the son of the late Thomas and Viola Kamin Harlan, was born in Gray Ridge on Dec. 17, 1939 and died at the Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau on Nov. 16, 2001, at the age of 61 years. Mr. Harlan was a resident of Gray Ridge most of his life and was of the Baptist faith. He had served in the United States Air Force. Surviving are one son, Randy Throgmorton of Dexter; one daughter, Beth Cook of Cape Girardeau; one brother, James Harlan of Gray Ridge; and two sisters, Gloria Ritch of Gray Ridge and Beverly Hargrove of Napa, Calif. Visitation was held at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 19. Graveside funeral services followed at 10:30 a.m. at the Essex Cemetery in Essex with Rev. Doyle Corlew of Dexter officiating. Interment then followed in the Essex Cemetery with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of all arrangements. Full military honors were conducted by the Veterans Honor Guard of Poplar Bluff.
Cleo Mossman
Cleo Alvin Mossman, son of the late Heber Mossman and Millie Fagan Mossman, was born on Feb. 26, 1924 at Puxico and died in the Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter on Nov. 15, 2001, at the age of 77. Mr. Mossman was a member of the First Church of God in Dexter, a former automobile mechanic in the San Francisco Bay area for 40 years, and a resident of Dexter. He was united in marriage to Sarah Marie Estes on March 5, 1943 at Dexter, she survives of the home in Dexter. Besides his wife, he is survived by one brother, Rev. Thomas Mossman of Poplar Bluff; by two half-brothers, W.J. Lowe of Piedmont and Claude Lowe of Puxico; by two sisters, Mayme Spangler of Roseburg, Ore. and Thelma Brown of Dexter; and by one half-sister, Josetta Brown of Clinton, Pa. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Hermis Mossman and Melvis Mossman; by one half-brother, Merlan Mossman; by one sister, Katherine Corbin; and by one half-sister, Minnie O'Neal. Visitation was held at the Rainey Funeral Home in Dexter from 5 - 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18 in the Rainey Funeral Chapel with Rev. Rick Patterson officiating. Interment will follow in the Hagy Cemetery with Rainey Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of all arrangements.
Linus E. Bock
Linus E. Bock of Advance, son of the late Carl and Carrie Gluckhertz Bock, was born on Aug. 26, 1912 in Cape County and died Nov. 13, 2001 at the Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau at the age of 89. Linus was a retired farmer and a member of the Full Gospel Tabernacle Church in Advance. He was united in marriage to Geraldine White on May 5, 1932. She preceded him in death on Jan. 18, 1986. He later married Violet Noble on May 7, 1987, she survives of the home. Besides his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by one infant son; one daughter; and two brothers. Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Judy Nilsen of Sturdivant; by one step-son, Ron Noble of Advance; by one step-daughter, Joyce Bell of Protem, Mo.; by one brother, Lyman Bock of Sacramento, Calif.; by three grandchildren; by nine step-grandchildren; by two great-grandchildren; 18 step great-grandchildren; and three step great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at the Morgan Funeral Home at Advance on Thursday, Nov. 15 from 4 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the Morgan Funeral Chapel on Friday, Nov. 16 with Bro. J.D. Smith officiating. Interment will follow at the Morgan Memorial Park in Advance with the Morgan Funeral Home of Advance in charge of all arrangements.
Jess Nelson Pettigrew
WARRENSBURG.Mo. - Jess Nelson Pettigrew, age 79, of Holden, MO died Sunday, Oct. 1st at home. Following cremation a memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7th at the Ben Cast & Son-Wood Funeral Home in Holden.
Vader L. Link
Vader L. Link, son of the late Franklin and Mary Magdeline Meinz Link, was born near Bloomfield on Jan. 5, 1922 and died at his home near Bloomfield on Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, at the age of 79. On July 28, 1951, he was united in marriage to Pansy Pauline Kleffer, she survives of the home. He was a teacher for many years in the Portageville School system, as well as being engaged in his family farm by raising cattle. He was a member of the First General Baptist Church in Dexter and had attended the Link Community Church near Bloomfield. Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Brenda Jean Gaines of Dexter; by three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by twin sisters, Thelma Knowles and Velma Williams. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Nov. 15 from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield. Funeral services will be conducted in the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Chapel on Friday, Nov. 16 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Jerry Cooper and Rev. Ilene Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the Essex Cemetery with Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home of Bloomfield in charge of all arrangements.
Florence Taylor
Florence Melissalee Taylor, daughter of the late Monroe Gammons and Lillie May Haymes Gammons, was born at Hickman, Ky. on Aug. 2, 1911 and died in the Integrated Health Systems at Big-Valley Park, Mo. on Nov. 12, 2001, at the age of 90. She was united in marriage to Charlie C. Taylor at New Madrid on Oct. 27, 1925. To this union four sons were born. Mr. Taylor preceded her in death on April 2, 1991. Mrs. Taylor was a homemaker and was of the Pentecostal Faith. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Louis Edward Gammons, Huston Carol Gammons and Albert Gammons; and by five sisters, Clara Mae Gammons, May Cleavlin, Katie Lou Doty, Thelma Dee Gammons and Dorothy Agnes Gammons. She is survived by four sons, Charles H. Taylor of Branson, LeeRoy Taylor of Kirkwood, James H. Taylor of St. Charles and Louis F. Taylor of Lufkin, Texas; by 14 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted in the Rainey Funeral Home in Bernie on Thursday morning, Nov. 15 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Maxwell Lewis officiating. Interment followed in the Elder Cemetery Rural Route Campbell with Rainey Funeral Home of Bernie in charge of all arrangements.
Verba Romines
Verba Ellen Romines, daughter of the late Alva Rowley and Julia Allen Rowley, was born at Fisk on Feb. 8, 1921 and died in the Missouri Southern Healthcare at Dexter on Nov. 11, 2001, at the age of 80. Ms. Romines was a Social Service Supervisor for the Department of Public Social Services, Social Services Division at Blythe, Calif. before moving back to this area a few years ago. She was a member of the ladies Auxiliary V.F.W. #2987 in Blythe, Calif. She is survived by one sister, Betty Cross of Bernie. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Cleo L. Rowley. Visitation will be held at the Rainey Funeral Home in Bernie on Tuesday, Nov. 13 from 11:30 a.m. until the time of funeral services on Tuesday afternoon, Nov. 13 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. O.H. Brooks of Malden officiating. Interment will follow in the Shain Memorial Cemetery at Ash Hill with Rainey Funeral Home of Bernie in charge of all arrangements.
Marlin Dunn
Marlin Dunn, son of the late John Dunn and Minnie Overfield Dunn, was born on March 22, 1936 at Uniontown, Ky. and died in the Southeast Missouri Hospital on Nov. 12, 2001, at the age of 65. Mr. Dunn was the owner of 225 Package Store in Dexter, a veteran of the United States Army and a resident of Dexter. He was united in marriage to JoAnn Koch on June 10, 1978 at Oak Lawn, Ill., she survives of the home in Dexter. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Patrick Dunn of New Caney, Texas and Eric Dunn of the home in Dexter; by one daughter, Marla Speakman of Lake Benton, Minn.; by one step-daughter, Nicole Crowley of Woodridge, Ill.; by three brothers, James Dunn of Uniontown, Ky., Roy Dunn of Morganfield, Ky. and Sylvester Lyle Dunn of Sylvester, Ga.; by five sisters, Imogene Linton, Shirley Carley, and Kay Minton, all of Uniontown, Ky., Patricia Nally and Alice Corsi, both of Cleveland, Ohio; by four grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Andrea Dunn; by one brother, Albert Dunn; and by one sister, Martha Gregory. Visitation will be held at the Rainey Funeral Home in Dexter from 5 - 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 13. Funeral services will be conducted in the Rainey Funeral Chapel at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 14 with Rev. Adam Mueller officiating. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery with Rainey Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of all arrangements.
