Jerry Arnold
Jerry Arnold, the son of the late William and Naomi Gibson Arnold, was born on March 27. 1949, at St. Louis and died Sept. 28, 2002, at his home after an extended illness at the age of 53. Mr. Arnold had worked as a custodian at The Bank of Advance for over 20 years. He was a member of the Christian Fellowship Church of Advance. Survivors include two sisters, Patricia Arnold of Brownwood and Virginia Thayer of Denver, Colo. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. today, Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, at the Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002, at the Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance with Pastor Wayne Page officiating. Interment will follow in Bollinger County Memorial Park in Marble Hill.
Marjorie Ellen Blackman Temples
Marjorie Ellen Blackman Temples, daughter of the late Vernie C. Blackman and Tyna May Embrey Blackman, was born at Dexter on June 12, 1923 and died in the Missouri Southern Healthcare at Dexter on Nov. 28, 2001, at the age of 78. She was united in marriage to Dwight H. "Pete" Temples in Miss. on Nov. 18, 1950. He preceded her in death on Jan. 14, 1995. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Denzil Blackman, Venice Blackman and Charles Blackman. Mrs. Temples was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith. She is survived by one brother, Donald Blackman of Mountain Home, Ark. Visitation will be held at the Rainey Funeral Home in Bernie on Friday, Nov. 30 at 3 p.m. Graveside services will be conducted on Friday, Nov. 30 at the Bernie Cemetery in Bernie beginning at 4 p.m. with Rainey Funeral Home of Bernie in charge of all arrangements.
Dorothy LaVerne Caldwell
Dorothy LaVerne Caldwell, daughter of the late Lee Rowe and Maudie Joseph Rowe, was born on Jan. 29, 1931 at Dexter and died in the Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center in Dexter on Nov. 26, 2001, at the age of 70. Mrs. Caldwell attended the Pleasant Grove Church near Dexter, was a homemaker and a resident of Dexter. She was united in marriage to Richard Caldwell on May 22, 1949 at Dexter, he survives of the home in Dexter. Besides her husband, she is survived by one son, Michael Caldwell of Poplar Bluff; by one daughter, Brenda Rowling of Sikeston; by two sisters, Betty Heinlein of Belleville, Ill. and Barbara Hargrave of Dupo, Ill.; by two grandchildren; by two great-grandchildren; and by one step-grandson. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Rowe. Visitation will be held at the Rainey Funeral Home in Dexter from 5 - 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 28. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29 in the Rainey Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dale Shearon officiating. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery with Rainey Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of all arrangements.
Amy Nell Becking
Amy Nell Becking, daughter of the late James Robert Kifer and Ora Mae Vineyard Kifer, was born at Bernie on July 2, 1925 and died in the St. Francis Medical Center at Cape Girardeau on Nov. 26, 2001, at the age of 76. She was united in marriage to Glendale Lee Becking at Piggott, Ark. on June 19, 1948. To this union two children were born. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Homer Kifer, Freeman Kifer, Dawsey Kifer and Earl Kifer; by four sisters, Vera Kifer, Mabel Kifer, Pansey Walker and Pearl Ott. Mrs. Becking was a homemaker. She also loved working with her flowers at her home, both inside and out. She is survived by her husband, Glendale Lee Becking of the home in Bernie; by two daughters, Lana Becking of Bernie and Cindy Stewart of Marion, Ill.; by two grandchildren; by one great-grand-daughter; and by three sisters, Lucille Bates of Dexter, Goldie Hunt of Flint, Mich. and Helen "Toots" Thurston of Kennett. Visitation will be held at the Rainey Funeral Home in Bernie on Wednesday, Nov. 28 from 5:30 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the Rainey Chapel at Bernie on Thursday, Nov. 29 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Martin Goode of Malden officiating. Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery with Rainey Funeral Home of Bernie in charge of arrangements.
Thelma Mae Wamble
Thelma Mae Wamble, the daughter of the late Almond and Nancy Robinson Martin, was born in Stoddard County on May 6, 1915 and died at the Rivergate Healthcare Center in Riverview, Mich. on Nov. 26, 2001, at the age of 86. Mrs. Wamble was a former resident of Dexter, having lived in Michigan for several years, and a resident of Lincoln Park, Mich. at the present time. She was a member of the Ecorse Baptist Church in Ecorse, Mich. She was united in marriage to Max V. Wamble. He preceded her in death on Dec. 4, 1986. Surviving are one son, Danny James Wamble of Lincoln Park, Mich.; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Melvin and Elvin Martin, both of Washington; three sisters, Leatha O'Dell and Lois Davis, both of Dexter and Louise Brady of Bloomfield. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Thelma Maxine Lotti on May 21, 2000 and by three brothers, Raymond, Cecil and Elvis Martin. Visitation will be held at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter on Thursday, Nov. 29 from 5 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter on Friday, Nov. 30 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in the Triplett Cemetery near Dexter with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
Golda Woods
Golda Mae Woods, the daughter of the late Ed and Dorothy Ray Etheridge, was born in Hendrickson on March 31, 1928 and died at the Three Rivers Healthcare South Campus in Poplar Bluff on Nov. 24, 2001, at the age of 73. Mrs. Woods was a life-long resident of Southeast Missouri, having lived in Silva several years before moving to Dexter in 1993. She was a member of the Elk General Baptist Church in Broseley. On Dec. 22, 1944 she was united in marriage to Homer Woods in Piggott, Ark, he survives of the home. Besides her husband, she is survived by one son, William "Bill" Woods of Dexter; by one daughter, Joann Harmon of Kennett; by four grandchildren; by four great-grandchildren; and by three sisters, Claudine Cauthen of Easley, S.C., Carmon Pennington of Poplar Bluff and Carolyn Bruce of Qulin. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Wayne Woods, and two brothers, Herman and Ronnie Etheridge. Visitation was held on Monday, Nov. 26 from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 27 at 10:30 a.m. in the Watkins & Sons Chapel with Rev. Dan Ross of Silva officiating. Interment followed in the Hill Cemetery near Bloomfield with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of all arrangements.
Paul Hoxworth
Paul E. Hoxworth of Gravel Hill, the son of the late John and Ella Hester Hoxworth, was born Feb. 19, 1915 and died Monday, Nov. 19, 2001 at his home, at the age of 86. He was united in marriage to Mary Lou Grampp on Nov. 19, 1932. She preceded him in death on Nov. 30, 1995. Mr. Hoxworth served in the United States Army from 1944 - 1945 as a private first class. He had lived and farmed in the Gravel Hill Community since 1953, was a member of Operating Engineers Local 513, and had worked for Delta Asphalt, Rock Hill Asphalt and Penzel Construction, retiring in 1977. He is survived by three sons, Leo Hoxworth of Conway, Ark., Jerry Hoxworth of Marble Hill, and Kenny Hoxworth of Millersville; by three daughters, Shirley Barks and Jo Ann Knoll, both of Marble Hill and Judy Bryant of Carson City, Nev.; by 15 grandchildren; and by 20 great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers and eight sisters. Funeral services will be announced later by McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson, to be held at the County Line Baptist Cemetery at County Line Baptist Church.
Anna Duley
Anna Duley, the daughter of the late Elmer Lewis and Bessie Irene Purcell Sanders, was born in Essex on Dec. 19, 1946 and died at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau on Nov. 20, 2001, at the age of 54. Mrs. Duley was a former resident of Essex, but had resided in Idalia the past 10 years. She was a member of the South Pleasant Valley General Baptist Church. On July 10, 1993 she was united in marriage to Melvin Duley near Essex. He preceded her in death on Jan. 27, 1999. She is survived by one son, Richard Sanders of Bloomfield; by four brothers, Junior, Roy, Donald and Doyle Sanders, all of Essex; and by two sisters, Mildred Williams and Geraldine Duncan, both of Essex. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Charles Sanders and two sisters, Martha DeSmyther and Wilma Alberson. Visitation will be held at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter from 5 - 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 23. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, Nov. 24 at 11 a.m. in the Watkins & Son Funeral Chapel with Rev. Kenneth White of Bloomfield officiating. Interment will follow in the Essex Cemetery with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of all arrangements.
Louisa Ellen Springman
Louisa Ellen Springman of Lowndes, the daughter of the late Herman L. and Francis McGee Payne, was born Dec. 29, 1913 at McGee and died on Nov. 19, 2001 at the Greenville Health Center in Greenville at the age of 87. Louisa was a homemaker and a member of Corinth General Baptist Church.
She was united in marriage to Lester Springman on July 5, 1968 in Hot Springs, Ark., he survives of the home. Besides her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Belva Tutt of Bethalto, Ill., Shelby Hitch of Camarillo, Calif. and Norma McGomery of Alton, Ill.; by six brothers, Eugene Payne of Advance, Tommy Payne of Puxico, Richard Payne of Virginia Beach, Va., Odell Payne of Jefferson, Texas, Jerry Payne of Tulelake, Calif., and Roger Payne of Russellville, Ala.; by 11 grandchildren; by 23 great-grandchildren; and by one great-great-grandchild. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Visitation was held at the Morgan Funeral Home in Advance from 5 - 8 p.m on Thursday, Nov. 22. Funeral services were conducted on Friday, Nov. 23 in the Morgan Funeral Chapel with Rev. Larry Underwood officiating. Interment followed at the New Hope McGee Cemetery in McGee with Morgan Funeral Home of Advance in charge of all arrangements.
