Joan Barbara Harrison
WARRENSBURG, Mo. - Joan Barbara Harrison, age 69, of Warrensburg, Missouri, passed away Sunday, October 22, 2006, at the Country Club Care Center.
She was born on October 7, 1937, in Chelsea, Massachusetts, the daughter of Emil and Frances (Vaughn) Schirl.
She married Ormond Harrison on January 5, 1958 in Chelsea, Massachusetts. He survives of the home.
Mrs. Harrison had worked at the Gordon Marsh Company in Boston, Massachusetts and was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Mike Harrison of Knob Noster and Kevin Harrison of Waco, Texas; a daughter, Cindy Suzette McGee of Bay Point, California; three grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and two sisters.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 24, 2006, at the Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home of Warrensburg
Dr. Randall Neal will be officiating.
Private burial will be held in the Missouri Veteran Cemetery in Higginsville.
Lowell Tanner
Lowell Russell Tanner, the son of the late Robert Esco and Etta Miller Tanner, was born in Calm on Dec. 25, 1923, and died at the Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis on Sept. 30, 2002, at the age of 78. Mr. Tanner graduated from Couch High School and Arkansas State University, where he played for the Arkansas Greyhounds' Independent team. He taught math and physical education for thirty-five years in the Missouri schools of Couch, Risco, Bernie, Richland, and Pacific. He coached several area basketball teams including the 1964 Richland Rebels to the state championship where they won second place, ending with a season record of 35-1. His hobbies were fishing, hunting, and playing pool. He was a member of the Missouri State Teachers Association. On May 2, 1942, he was married to Reva Evelyn Reed in Alton. Three children were born to this union: Russell Dale Tanner and wife, Jeanice of Bernie, Donna Louise Tucker and husband Harold of Oak Grove, La., Randy Ellis Tanner and wife Tammy of Dexter; five granddaughters and one grandson, Kimberly Flowers, Lori Daniels, and Brook Smith, all of Dexter, Brandy Judd of Monroe, La., Melanie Tucker of Oak Grove, La., and Tyler Scott of Dexter; and six great-grandchildren, Owen, Alexis, Ethan, Brett, Maci, and Andrew. He later married Ethel Marie Maples, who survives of Poplar Bluff; three step-children, Jim Eubanks of St. Louis, Harold Eubanks of Carbondale, Ill., and Ossey Eubanks of Charleston, Ill. Other relatives and many friends also survive. He was preceded in death by one great-granddaughter, Anastasia Flowers; one brother, Leamon Tanner; and two sisters, Lena Reed and Bessie Jones. Visitation will be held after 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, in the Chalk Bluff Cemetery near Dexter with Stan Dauck of Bernie officiating. Interment will follow in the Chalk Bluff Cemetery near Dexter with Martha Duffie-Reynolds in charge of arrangements at the Watkins & Sons funeral Service in Dexter. Michael Kildow
Michael Kildow, the son of the late Neil and Melba Smith Kildow, was born in Malden on Jan. 26, 1952, and died at the Missouri Southern Healthcare Center in Dexter on Oct. 1, 2002, at the age of 50. Mr. Kildow had lived in Malden until moving to Essex 16 years ago. He had worked the past 27 years as a set-up person at Arvin-Meritor Automotive in Dexter. On June 21, 1986, he was married to Sandra Dowdy in Essex. Surviving are his wife, Sandra Kildow of Essex; one daughter, Tonya Wilson of Aid; one grandson, Andrew Wilson of Aid; and three sisters, Carlotta Bailey, Betty Kildow, and Deborah Goldsmith, all of Malden. Other relatives and many friends also survive. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. today, Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, in the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with Rev. Mike Brown of Essex officiating. Interment will follow in the Essex Cemetery with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
Philip D. Montgomery
Philip D. Montgomery, the son of the late Garfield and Francis Reed Montgomery, was born in Gideon on Oct. 4, 1941, and died at the Beverly Health & Rehab Center in Dexter on Sept. 29, 2002, at the age of 60. Mr. Montgomery had lived in Dexter all his life. He attended the Assembly of God Church in Bernie and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He had worked at Purolator Company in Dexter for 19 years before ill health forced his retirement. On July 4, 1973, he was married to Barbara Mason in Dexter. Surviving are his wife, Barbara Montgomery of Dexter; two sons, Clint and Wesley Montgomery, both of Dexter; two daughters, Ramona Mason of Dexter, and Tammy Kanavel of Grewelthorpe, England; six grandchildren; two brothers, David and Barry Montgomery, both of Dexter; and one sister, Judy Nea of Dexter. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, in the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with Rev. Elbert Mason of Irondale and the Rev. Danny Marshall of Sikeston officiating. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery in Dexter with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service in charge of arrangements.
George Pullum
George L. Pullum, son of the late William and Anna Triplett Pullum, was born at Idalia on Oct. 21, 1926, and died at Missouri Delta Medical Center on Sept. 28, 2002, at the age of 75. Mr. Pullum had spent all his life in the Bloomfield community and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a retired carpenter and a member of the Beech Grove General Baptist Church. On Sept. 27, 1947, he was married to Wanda Cook. Survivors include his wife Wanda Pullum of the home in Bloomfield; one son, Barry Pullum of Bloomfield; one brother, Harry Pullum of Bloomfield; two grandsons, Bill and Neal Pullum, both of Bloomfield; and one great-grandson Colt Pullum of Bloomfield. Other relatives and many friends also survive. Mr. Pullum ws preceded in death by two sisters, Wilma Patterson and Venita Stafford, and two brothers, Charles and Jim Pullum. Visitation was held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. today, Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. Lloyd Bowers and Rev. Lonnie Clubb officiating. Interment followed in the Bluff Cemetery at Idalia.
Beverly Jean Stahl
WARRENSBURG, Mo. - Beverly Jean Stahl, age 71, Holden, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006, at the Warrensburg Manor Care Center.
Private family graveside services will be held in the Holden Cemetery. Elder Robert Stewart will officiate.
James Wesley 'J.W.' Smothers
James Wesley 'J.W.' Smothers, son of the late Evert Smothers and Essie Lee Pierce Smothers, was born on July 11, 1923, in Campbell and died Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau at the age of 79. Mr. Smothers was married to Glodean Stevens on Feb. 23, 1943, at New Madrid, and she survives of the home. Mr. Smothers was affiliated with the First General Baptist Church of Campbell. He was a member of Four Mile Masonic Lodge #212, Campbell O.E.S. Chapter #92, the Scottish Rites, and Shriners. He was also a retired farmer. Other survivors include one son, Donald Smothers, of Malden; two daughters, Ginger Kay Mauldin of Jefferson City, and Joan Marie Abernathy of Campbell; three brothers, Everett Smothers of Forsyth, Robert Lee Smothers of Kennett, and Ernest Smothers of Troy; one sister, Mary Bennett of Marmaduke, Ark.; ten grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Janet Dean; two brothers, Buford and Loran Smothers; and three sisters, Dona Smothers, Mattie Shanda and Opal Lewis. Visitation was held at 6:00 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, 2002, with a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. that evening. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, at Bradshaw Chapel in Malden with Rev. Jim Black officiating. Interment followed at Elder Cemetery in Campbell with military rites.
Elbert L. Sadler
Elbert Leander Sadler, the son of the late Richard L. and Lily Ramsey Sadler, was born in Bernie on May 8, 1921, and died at his home in Aid on Sept. 29, 2002, at the age of 81. Mr. Sadler had lived in the Aid community since 1949. He was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in WWII. On March 31, 1951, he was married to Carzenia Masterson in Piggott, Ark. Surviving are his wife: Carzenia Sadler of Aid; two daughters, Linda Allen of Amarillo, Texas, and Janet Smith of Dexter; four grandchildren, Kathryn Bradley, Jennifer Nieman, Gabriel Sweeney, and Eric Hendrix; two great-grandchildren, Alex Bradley and Adriene Nieman; two sisters, Eleanor Leirer of Gideon, and Louise Smith of Dexter; two brothers, Marion Sadler of Austin, Texas, and Reeves Sadler of Tucson, Ariz. Other relatives and many friends also survive. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter and Ralph Sadler, and three sisters, Alberta Fulkerson, Lavern Dowdy, and Reba McFerron. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. today, Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002, in the Bernie Cemetery in Bernie with the Rev. Jerry Summers of Poplar Bluff officiating. Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery in Bernie with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
