Gladys Berniece Hargis
Gladys Berniece Hargis, daughter of the late Charles R. Warnol, Sr. and Bertha Bell (Hance) Warnol, was born August 18, 1922 in Franks, Missouri where she attended elementary school.
Gladys continued her education in Dixon where she graduated from high school. After graduation, Gladys furthered her education by attending CMU in Warrensburg and also in Springfield at SMS State University and Drury. She obtained her degree in Education and became an educator.
Gladys began teaching in 1942. During her years as an educator, Gladys taught for 2 years at Pisgah School which was a one room schoolhouse for 1st – 8th grades, Upper Middle Creek School in Phelps County (K-8) where there were 15 students, and in 1955, she began teaching at Hooker School (5th – 8th grades), which was part of the Waynesville R-VI School System at the time. In 1957, she transferred to West Elementary. She became an elementary principal first at West Elementary in 1970 and then Partridge Elementary until her retirement in 1986.
On December 28, 1945, Gladys was united in marriage to James LeRoy Hargis in Dixon, Missouri. They shared over 64 years of marriage together before James preceded her in death on July 21, 2010. Gladys and James were blessed with two children: James “Jimmy” and Phyllis. Jimmy preceded Gladys in death in 1980.
As a young girl, Gladys made an important decision in her life and accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior. She was a member of the Hooker Baptist Church in Hooker and Harmony Baptist Church in Buckhorn for many years before retiring and RV traveling with her husband. Still, Gladys always attended church. After years of traveling, she joined First Baptist Church in Campbell, Missouri for several years. After moving to Farmington in 2011, she became a member of the Delassus Baptist Church.
In her spare time, Gladys enjoyed working in the yard and her gardens. She loved to read and study her Bible, singing in the church choir, and playing the piano. She was a member of the Eastern Star in Dixon. Most importantly, she loved her family and treasured spending time with them.
Gladys went home to be with her Lord Friday, April 18, 2014 in the Community Manor of Farmington, Missouri having attained the age of 91 years and 8 months. She will be sadly missed by all those that knew and loved her.
Gladys leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter: Phyllis Hargis of Farmington, MO; a granddaughter: Gwen Saunders of Cole Camp, MO; two great-grandsons: Josh and Austin Saunders; her sister: Minnie Patton of Rolla, MO; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, husband and son, Gladys was preceded in death by four siblings: Lucy Warnol, Grace Collier, Charles R. Warnol, Jr. and James O. Warnol.
Gregory David Kellstrom 48, of St. Robert
Gregory David Kellstrom, 48, of St. Robert, died Friday, April 25, 2014.
Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Chapels and Crematory, Waynesville/St. Robert.
Cal Michael Hutchings, MSGT (Ret)
Cal Michael Hutchings, son of Cal Hutchings, Jr. and Anny (Kromschröeder) Hutchings, was born September 5, 1954 in El Paso, Texas. Cal grew up in the Swedeborg and Crocker, Missouri area and graduated from Crocker High School.
On May 23, 1975, Cal entered the United States Air Force and served with the 1849 Electronic Installation Squad. Cal retired on September 30, 1997 after 22 years of faithful service. He had attained the rank of Master Sergeant and earned several awards and commendations.
After retiring from the military and moving back home to the Swedeborg area, Cal worked at the Richland Care Center for a time. He loved visiting with the residents and had a great working relationship with everyone there.
In his spare time, Cal enjoyed being outdoors while fishing, hunting and working in his garden. He was also a wonderful cook and loved to enjoy a good meal with his friends.
Cal passed away at 2:53 p.m. Sunday, March 23, 2014 in the St. Louis University Hospital of St. Louis, Missouri having attained the age of 59 years.
Cal leaves to cherish his memory, his two daughters: Larissa Ann Hutchings of Nashville, TN and Cassandra Lynn Hutchings of Granite City, IL; his mother: Anny Hutchings of Swedeborg, MO; two sisters: Barb Wall of Crocker, MO and Katherine Hutchings of Swedeborg, MO; one niece: Zoe Wilson of Crocker, MO; other relatives and friends.
Cal was preceded in death by his father: Cal Hutchings, Jr.; maternal and paternal grandparents; and one nephew: Landon Wilson.
Graveside services with military honors were held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2014 in the Oaklawn Cemetery. Military honors were provided by the United States Air Force and the Missouri Honors Team. Services were under the direction of Memorial Chapel of Richland.
Larry Cowan
WARRENSBURG, Mo. -– Friends and colleagues of Larry Cowan, vice president for university advancement and executive director of the University of Central Missouri Foundation, will celebrate his life in a memorial service Monday, July 28. The event begins promptly at 2 p.m. in Elliott Union 238, and will be followed by a reception with refreshments.
University President Aaron Podolefsky will speak during the service, in addition to remarks by representatives of the UCM Foundation Board of Directors and the Alumni Board of Directors.
Individuals who wish to honor the memory of Cowan can do so through gifts to a memorial fund that is being established in his name through the UCM Foundation. Gifts will help establish a scholarship benefiting UCM students.
Cowan joined the university Aug. 1, 2007, after serving previously as associate vice president for development and alumni affairs at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla. He died Thursday, July 17, 2008 after a brief illness. The funeral near Boca Raton Monday, July 21.
The memorial service is open to anyone who wishes to attend. Individuals who would like more information about the service or the scholarship fund being established in honor of Cowan may call the Office of Alumni Relations and Development at 660-543-8000.
Evelyn Fedder Hemstreet 82, St. Robert
Evelyn Fedder Hemstreet, daughter of the late Ivan Blanchard and Cora Elretta (Vought) Wagner, was born January 20, 1932 in Lime Ridge, Pennsylvania. As a young girl, Evelyn attended school in Berwick and Lime Ridge.
On June 23, 1950, Evelyn was united in marriage to Theodore Conrad Fedder in Espy, Pennsylvania. They shared over 43 years together and were blessed with three children. Theodore preceded Evelyn in death on August 23, 1993.
On May 30, 1999, Evelyn married Dennis Keith Hemstreet in Waynesville, Missouri. They shared over 14 years and many wonderful memories together.
Evelyn was a hardworking woman. While still living in Pennsylvania, Evelyn worked for the Hosiery Company and Milco in Bloomsburg and Weis Potato Chips Company in Berwick.
In her spare time, Evelyn loved to handwork; whether it was crocheting, needle point, knitting or sewing. She was also very involved in her local church wherever she was needed. She was a member of the Lime Ridge Methodist Church while living in Pennsylvania, and after moving to the Waynesville area, she attended the Waynesville United Methodist Church. She was recently attending the Briarwood Baptist Church of Dixon, Missouri.
Evelyn went home to be with her Lord Thursday, March 20, 2014 in the Cox South Medical Center of Springfield, Missouri having attained the age of 82 years, and 2 months. She will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by all those that knew and loved her.
Evelyn leaves to cherish her memory, her husband: Dennis K. Hemstreet of St. Robert, MO; three children: Theodore Conrad Fedder, Jr. of Berwick, PA, Rodney Lee Fedder of Bloomsburg, PA and Christine Diane Hutchinson of Waynesville, MO; one sister: Lois Seesholtz of Lime Ridge, PA; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and first husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by two sisters: Ruth A. Stevens and Catherine M. Lee.
Memorial services were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2014 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville / St. Robert with Pastor Bill Davis officiating. The songs “Just A Closer Walk With Thee” and “Til We Meet Again” were played.
Elfriede Marianne (Noller) Linane
Elfriede Marianne (Noller) Linane, daughter of the late Johann George and Magdalene Marie (Ikinger) Noller, was born February 5, 1930 in Frankenberg, Germany where she grew up and attended school.
On April 20, 1955, Elfriede was united in marriage to John J. Linane in Germany. They shared over 35 years of marriage together and many wonderful memories. John preceded her in death on June 28, 1990.
Elfriede and John came to the United States in 1956 and were immediately sent to Fort Leonard Wood where John was stationed. After John’s discharge from the military, they decided to stay in the St. Robert / Fort Leonard Wood area where Elfriede has remained since that time.
Elfriede was a hardworking woman and worked for many years for Rice’s Cleaners. She began working as a seamstress for the company and eventually became for equipped to do any part of the business that they needed her to do. After her husband became ill, Elfriede left her job and became a full time care giver for John.
Elfriede enjoyed traveling to Eureka Springs, Arkansas to see the sights and also liked to get together with her lady friends from the Catholic Church.
Elfriede passed away at 6:22 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2014 in the General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital of Fort Leonard Wood having attained the age of 84 years, 1 month and 21 days. She will be sadly missed by all those that knew and loved her.
Elfriede is survived by one sister: Gerlinde of Germany; one sister-in-law of Germany; friends: Helene Dalgetty, Lila Rice, Robin Smith, Joy and Phil Bolduc and family, Linda Stephens, Pat Woodman, Rachel and Tara Roberts, Teresa Layman, Christa McCullouch, Norma Dalgetty, Megan Dalgetty, Joseph Dalgetty, Paul Rice, Robbie Rice, Betty Cartwright, Nancy Platt, Pauline La Mountain and Pat Woodman; other relatives and many other friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Elfriede was preceded in death by one brother.
Memorial services were held at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2014 in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory with Rev. Christopher Hendrix officiating. The songs “Amazing Grace” and “On Eagle’s Wings” were played.
Mary Ione Evans
Mary Ione Evans, daughter of the late Walter and Shirley Steinhardt, was born April 13, 1944. She grew up in Wisconsin and graduated from Winneconne High School in Winneconne, Wisconsin.
On November 26, 1971, Mary was united in marriage to Robert Evans. They shared over 40 years of marriage together and were blessed with three girls: Brenda, Tara and Lisa.
Mary had the privilege of staying home and raising her girls. She took great pride in taking care of her family. In her spare time, she enjoyed horseback riding, arts and crafts and sewing. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren as they began to come along. They were the apples of her eye.
Mary passed away at 4:15 p.m., Sunday, July 8, 2012, at her home having attained the age of 68. She will be sadly missed by all those that knew and loved her.
Mary leaves to cherish her memory her husband: Robert of the home; three daughters; Brenda Kaiser of Stoutland, MO, Tara Brown, and her husband, James, of Stoutland, MO, and Lisa Ellis, and her husband, Renard, of Laquey, MO; five grandchildren: Molly, Christopher, Hannah, Michael and Micaela; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by two brothers: Jerry and Lee Steinhardt and one granddaughter: Jessica Kaiser.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Memorial Chapel of Richland.

Katherine “Kay” G. Knight
Katherine “Kay” G. Knight, daughter of the late Montgomery Lisle and Marian Blanche (Hawkins) Goldsberry, was born January 22, 1920 in Mineral Springs, Kansas. She attended grade school, graduated High School and attended one year of extension college in Columbus (Cherokee County), Kansas. She furthered her education at Cottey College in Nevada, Missouri and the Kansas State Teachers College.
On October 5, 1941, Kay was united in marriage to the love of her life, Wilbur Harold “Blackie” Knight. They were married in Washington, D.C. They shared over 36 years of marriage together and were blessed with two daughters: Andrea and Martha. Blackie preceded her in death on June 24, 1978.
Kay was a hardworking person. She worked as a teacher in Trieste, Italy teaching high school algebra from 1950 – 1952. She began her civil service career as a typist while living in Washington, D.C. and her last level of employment was as a GS9 in the position of Management Analyst at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
Kay was also a very active person. While attending school, she played the piano and violin and in High School, she won state honors in typing and Algebra. Her senior photo in the yearbook, had the caption “Million Dollar Legs” because of her long legs and her talent as a tap dancer. While in college, she belonged to the drum and bugle corps and was on the water ballet swim team. In her later years, Kay enjoyed knitting, crossword puzzles, reading, bowling, traveling and her activities at the Senior Center in Waynesville. She always enjoyed singing and any opportunity to dance, even while in the passenger seat of a car filled with grandchildren.
While living in Waynesville, Kay was a very active member of the First Christian Church. She was a member of the Mary Martha Circle at the church and also was involved in the church choir, Sunday School program and VBS programs throughout the years. She loved children and wanted to help any way she could. After moving to Florida, she became a member of the First Christian Church in Leesburg and attended every chance she could until her health declined.
Kay was involved in several organizations. She was proud of her record as a faithful blood donor and worked with the Waynesville Blood Drive. She was a member of the Elizabeth Chapter 43 Order of the Eastern Star of Georgia and then was demitted with the Hanson Chapter 22 Order of the Eastern Star of Waynesville. She was a past Matron and District Deputy Grand Matron with the Eastern Star and received her 50 years pin on December 5, 2002.
She was also involved with the Business and Professional Women of America, the National Federation of Federal Employees, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and was on the board of the Fort Leonard Wood Credit Union.
Kay’s greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. She truly knew her family was more important than anything else. She will be sadly missed by not only her family, but also her many friends.
Kay went home to be with her Lord Tuesday, May 22, 2012 in her daughter’s home in Florida having attained the age of 92 years.
Kay leaves to cherish her memory her two daughters: Andrea Conrad (Patrick R. Conrad) of Houston, TX and Martha Haworth (Glenn R. Haworth) of Leesburg, FL; one brother: John Maurice Goldsberry (Joan); four grandchildren: Christopher Adolph (Cindy), Gina Kussro (Ray), Tonja Martin and Katherine Youngren (Nathaniel); five step-grandchildren: Misha Hess (Jason), Brett Conrad (Kelley), Melissa Knox, Darcey Bailey (Jim) and KC Haworth (Whitney); twenty great grandchildren: Kimberly Kay Adolph, Kodie Lynn Adolph, Michael Craven (Marisol), Brittany Adams, Kyle and Jacob Hess, Bryce and Brenna Conrad, Caleb, Emily and Ryan Kussro, Cadence Youngren, Rusty and Paige Knox, Trey, Tyler and Maggie Bailey and Destiny, Karli, and Braden Haworth; other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Kay was also preceded in death by one grandson: Montgomery Caswell Adolph.
Eastern Star services were held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2012 with a funeral service following. Pastor Gary Holt officiated during the funeral service. Soloist Evelyn Horine sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and serving as escorts were Jerry Nelson, Junior Levett, Pete Cruz, Paul Hardman, Christopher Adolph and K.C. Haworth. Burial followed in the Main Post Cemetery of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri.
