Willis Edward Middleton
Willis Edward Middleton, son of the late James Henry Middleton and Eva Sanders Middleton, was born on April 18, 1916, in Dexter and departed his life in the Saint Francis Medical Center at Cape Girardeau on Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at the age of 86. Mr. Middleton was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Dexter, retired from the State Highway Department, a former member of the Liberty Township Board and a resident of rural Dexter. He was united in marriage to Charlene Temples on Sept. 6, 1936, at Dexter. Mrs. Middleton survives of the home near Dexter. Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Ann Stroder of Dexter; two grandsons, Todd Stroder and Blake Stroder; two great-grandchildren, Joshua Stroder and Blake Ryan Stroder. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, James M. Middleton and Dalton Lee Middleton; two sisters, Mildred Kincy and Nell Followell. Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5-9 p.m. today, Thursday, March 13, 2003. Funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2003, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Andrew Lovins officiating. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
Cleon McAnally
Cleon McAnally was born in Alabama on July 21, 1937, and died in Vasilia, Calif., on Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at the age of 65. Mr. McAnally was a former resident of Madison County but had lived in California the past several years. Survivors include his wife, Billie Jo McAnally of the home in Vasilia, Calif.; three sons, Cleon, Jr. and Kevin McAnally, both of Vasilia, Calif., and Raymond McAnally of Bloomfield; one daughter, Donnie Allison of Rockford, Ill. Funeral services and interment will be in Vasilia, Calif.
Sarah Ann McCarthy
Sarah Ann McCarthy, 34, of Lilbourn, the daughter of James Cordell Morgan of Malden and Elizabeth Mae Siemons Morgan of Malden, was born July 2, 1968, in Galveston, Texas, and died Sunday, March 9, 2003, as the result of a automobile accident. On May 31, 1987, she was united in marriage to Clarence Lynn McCarthy in Bernie, and he survives of the home. She graduated from Bernie High School, and was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene of Malden. She was also a student at Bootheel Education Center at Malden. Besides her husband and parents, she is survived by two sons, Tony McCarthy and Jason McCarthy, of the home; four sisters, Laura Biano of Baytown, Texas, Jeanette Morgan of Hitchcock, Texas, Glynda Woffard of Santa Fe, Calif., and Augusta Allen, of Malden; and two brothers, Corporal James Morgan, Jr., of Caruthersville, and Chester Morgan of Malden. Visitation will be held beginning at 6 p.m. today, Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at Bradshaw Funeral Chapel in Malden with Rev. John Bowlby officiating. Interment will follow in Rosewood Cemetery in Malden.
Esther Rice
Esther Elizabeth Rice, the daughter of the late Carnelius and Anna Ensz Jantzen, was born in Plymouth, Neb., on Jan. 29, 1920, and died at Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter on Sunday, March 9, 2003, at the age of 83. Mrs. Rice had been a resident of Plymouth, Neb., until 1961 when she moved to Pacific where she lived until 1990 when she moved with her husband to Dexter. She was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Dexter. On Dec. 8, 1961, she was married to Carl Victor Rice in Beatrice, Neb. Surviving are her husband, Carl Rice of Dexter; a daughter, Carla Bogue of Midway, Tenn.; one brother, Ernest Jantzen of Plymouth, Neb.; two sisters, Louise Jantzen of Beatrice, Neb., and Marie Classen of Salina, Kan.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. At this time no services are planned. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
Carolyn Wright
Carolyn Sue Wright, daughter of the late Carl and Riva Wright, died Friday, March 7, 2003. Survivors include one brother, Glynn Wright; three sisters, Brenda Wright, the late Riva Jean Davis, and the late Willa Dean Wright. Miss Wright retired in 2001 from Famous-Barr after 42 years of service. Graveside service at Bernie Cemetery will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 11, 2003. The family requests that memorials be made to American Lung Association or American Cancer Society. Arrangements are by Hoffmeister Colonial Mortuary of St. Louis.
Barbara Rose
Barbara June Rose, daughter of the late Howard Berlin Williams and Catherine Schmittel Williams, was born on March 23, 1940, at Westville, Ind., and died in Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter on Thursday, March 20, 2003, at the age of 62. Mrs. Rose was a member of the New Beginnings Pentecostal Church in Dexter, a driver for Renzenberger Transportation, a former deputy sheriff for McHenry County, Ill., and a resident of Dexter. She was united in marriage to Donald E. Rose on Dec. 12, 1987, at Richmond, Ill. Mr. Rose survives of the home at Dexter. Besides her husband, she is survived by one son, Michael A. Borchardt of McHenry, Ill.; three step-sons, Donald Rose of Toledo, Ohio, Chad Rose and Greg Rose, both of Indianapolis, Ind.; one sister, Marge Brodin of Florida; and two step-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Ronald Borchardt. Visitation was held from 9-10 a.m. Monday, March 24, 2003, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services were then conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, March 24, 2003, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. James Crutchfield officiating. The body was cremated following the service.
Emory McGee
Emory U. McGee, 77, of Advance, was born Aug. 5, 1925, at McGee, the son of the late Hugh and Lucy Briscoe McGee, and died March 21, 2003, at the Advance Nursing Center. He was a 1945 graduate of Advance High School, where he was a member of the Advance varsity basketball team from 1942 to 1945. He was owner of Advance Body Shop for 30 years. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II. Survivors include a brother, Lyman L. McGee of Advance. A sister and a brother preceded him in death. Visitation was from 5-8 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2003, at Morgan Funeral Home in Advance. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. today, Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance with Rev. Bob Porter officiating and assisted by Bro. Ray Placher. Interment followed in McGee New Hope Cemetery.
Ronnie Gregory
Ronnie Gene Gregory, son of the late Howard Gregory and Venita Tucker Gregory, was born on July 19, 1942, near Bernie and died at his residence near Dexter on Monday, March 24, 2003, as a result of heart failure at the age of 60. Mr. Gregory was baptized two years ago and was a member of the Second General Baptist Church in Dexter, a former lift truck driver for Purolator Filter Company in Dexter and a resident of Dexter. He was united in marriage to Judy Adkins on Aug. 13, 1961, at Bernie. Mrs. Gregory survives of the home near Dexter. Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Robyn Walker of Old Monroe; two brothers, Mike Gregory of House Springs and Keith Gregory of Greenville, Tenn.; one sister, Jan Kinsey of Cape Girardeau; two grandsons and one great-grandson. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. today, Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Dexter with Rev. Phil Warren officiating. Interment will follow in the Smith-Stevenson Cemetery near Dexter. Memorials may be made to Second General Baptist Church in Dexter.
