Elmer E. Clark

Elmer E. Clark, the son of the late Barney and Katie Michael Clark, was born in Myrtle, Mo. on June 19, 1913 and died at his home in Fayetteville, Ark. on April 7, 2002, at the age of 88. Mr. Clark had lived in California before moving to Fayetteville, Ark. 23 years ago. He was a retired carpenter. On March 6, 1943, he was united in marriage to Doris Loraine Lawson in Morehouse and she survives of the home in Fayetteville. Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, James E. Clark of Pickney, Mich., Ronnie George Clark of Fayetteville, Ark., and Michael Lynn Clark of Bremerton, Wash.; by one daughter, Joyce Marie Hodges of Oxnard, Calif.; by six grandchildren; by five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Georgia Welch of Grants Pass, Ore. Visitation will be held at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter on Wednesday, April 10 from 5 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 11 at 11 a.m. in the Watkins & Sons Chapel with Rev. Doyle Corlew of Dexter officiating. Interment will follow in the Essex Cemetery with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

Curtis Cantrell

Curtis C. Cantrell, the son of the late Robert and Lettie Malone Cantrell, was born in Leora on Sept. 14, 1919 and died at the Puxico Nursing Center in Puxico on April 6, 2002, at the age of 82. Mr. Cantrell lived in California for 19 years before returning to Puxico in 1964. He was a retired carpenter and was a member of the Puxico General Baptist Church in Puxico. On April 28, 1946, he was united in marriage to Reva Wilfong in Piggott, Ark. and she survives. Besides his wife, he is survived by one grandson; by one granddaughter; four great-grandchildren; by two great-great-grandchildren; by two brothers, Fred Cantrell of Kinder and J.D. Cantrell of Jackson; and by three sisters, Daisy Lynch of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Kathryn Earls of Mich. and Patsy Lynch of Kinder. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Curtis Ray Cantrell. Visitation was held Monday, April 8 after 6 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Puxico. Funeral services were held, today, Tuesday, April 9 at 10 a.m. in the Watkins & Sons Funeral Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Lambert of Bloomfield officiating. Interment followed in the Brown Cemetery near Puxico with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Puxico in charge of arrangements.

Arnold Long

Arnold "Odell" Long, 75, of Advance was born Feb. 20, 1928, at Scopus, the son of the late Marshall and Hester Limbaugh Long, and died Friday, March 21, 2003, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. Mr. Long was a retired farmer. On Oct. 14, 1949, he was united in marriage to Louise McIntosh at Advance, and she survives of the home. Other survivors include one son, Wally Long of Zalma; one brother, James Long of Bloomfield; two sisters, Violetta Vavak of Missouri and Mary Turner of Mississippi; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren. Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Visitation was held from 5:30-8 p.m. Monday, March 24, 2003, at Morgan Funeral Home in Advance. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. today, Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance with Bro. Billy Davis officiating. Interment followed in Morgan Memorial Park in Advance.

Ruthie Lacey

Ruthie Lacey, the daughter of the late James Franklin and Margaret Howard Ross, was born in Dardnelle, Ark. on March 8, 1945 and died at the Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter on April 8, 2002, at the age of 57. Mrs. Lacey had been a resident of Essex most of her life, was a retired sewing machine operator with Brown Shoe Company in Bernie and a member of the Olive Branch General Baptist Church near Essex. On Dec. 30, 1968, she was united in marriage to Jim Lacey and he survives of the home in Essex. Besides her husband, she is survived by one son, Eddie Blackwell of Houston, Texas; by two daughters, Susan Coleman of Greenville and Rebakah Williams of Essex; by one step-son, Tim Lacey of Bloomfield; by one step-daughter, Karen Auner of Ironton; by 14 grandchildren; by three brothers, Charlie Robert Ross of Malden, James Ross of Matthews and Ray Ross of Brandon, Miss.; and by six sisters, Ruby Taylor of Fulton, Carolyn Holyfield of Bell City, Jewell Tankersley of Campbell, Margaret Jenkins of Indianola, Miss., Linda McClain of Malden and Betty Kerley of Puxico. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. Visitation will be held at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter on Tuesday, April 9 from 5 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, April 10 at 1 p.m. in the Watkins & Sons Chapel with Rev. Doyle Corlew of Dexter and Rev. Dennis Ward of Essex officiating. Interment will follow in the Essex Cemetery with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

Lorraine Brown

Lorraine Marie Brown, daughter of the late Nicholas Grabowski and Salome Tomicki Grabowski, was born on June 5, 1918 at Ludington, Mich. and died in the Missouri Southern Healthcare at Dexter on April 5, 2002, at the age of 83. Mrs. Brown was of the Catholic faith, was a homemaker and a resident of Bernie. She was united in marriage to James W. Brown on Aug. 10, 1972 at Bernie. Mr. Brown preceded her in death on Aug. 23, 1994. Survivors include one step-son, James D. Brown of the State of Montana. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her step-mother, one sister, three brothers and one half-brother. Graveside services were conducted at 2 p.m., Sunday, April 7 at the Bernie Cemetery. Interment followed with Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home of Bernie in charge of arrangements.

Jack Kirkman

Jack D. Kirkman, son of Ruth Sprinkle of Bloomfield and the late Ivan Kirkman, was born on Nov. 2, 1944 at Dexter and died at his residence in Dexter on April 3, 2002, at the age of 57. Mr. Kirkman was a former Landscape Architect, of the Pentecostal faith and a resident of Dexter. He was united in marriage to Brenda K. Simmons on Aug. 3, 1974 at Arnold, Mo. Mrs. Kirkman survives of the home in Dexter. Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by three sons, Jerry Kirkman of Neelyville, Ivan Kirkman and John Kirkman, both of Dexter; by four daughters, Terry Matt of Madison, Ky., Sherri Kline of Athens, Ala., Kim Smiley of St. Louis and Candice Kirkman of Dexter; by three brothers, Jimmy Kirkman of Bernie, David Kirkman of Dexter and Charlie Spears of the State of Delaware; by eight sisters, Louise Black, Jo Ann Burleson, Sharon Kirkman, Darlene Shelton and Carol Rudd, all of Dexter, Nellie Steward of Rolla, Susie Murphy of Jefferson City and Judy McAllister of Chicago, Ill.; and by 11 grandchildren. Graveside services were conducted today, Thursday, April 4 at 10:30 a.m. at the Dexter Cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Kirby officiating.

Peggy Kirk

Peggy June Kirk, 72, of Advance, was born Oct. 30, 1930, at McGee, the daughter of the late Hugh and Lucy Brisco McGee, and died March 9, 2003, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. She was a homemaker and a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses of Advance. Survivors include two brothers, Emory McGee and Lymann McGee, both of Advance. Her parents preceded her in death. Graveside service was held at 10 a.m. today, Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at McGee New Hope Cemetery with Bill Smith officiating. Morgan Funeral Home in Advance was in charge of arrangements.

William Hill

William Edison Hill of Malden, son of the late Jess David and Martha Jane Boyd Hill, was born Dec. 3, 1919 at Black Oak, Ark. and died at Three Rivers Healthcare North in Poplar Bluff on Monday, April 1, 2002, at the age of 82. On Oct. 7, 1943 he was united in marriage to Mildred Louise Brewer in Piggott, Ark. and she preceded him in death on April 26, 1997. Mr. Hill was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include five daughters, Carolyn Goode, Gayla Atchley and Wilma Goode, all of Malden, Sharon Hill of Dexter, Joanie Sliger of Quincy, Ill.; five sons, William Hill and Donnie Hill of Campbell, Freddie Hill of Portageville, Gary Hill of Pine Bluff, Ark. and Hank Hill of New Madrid; one brother, Rev. Albert S. Hill of Flint, Mich.; 24 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Fannie Story, Josie Elam, Julie Willoughby and Martha McCallister; and one brother, Jess A. Hill. Visitation will be held at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden on Wednesday, April 3 beginning at 6 p.m. Funeral services will by conducted on Thursday, April 4 at 11 a.m. in the Bradshaw Funeral Chapel with Rev. Perry Clark and Rev. Martin Goode officiating. Interment will follow at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Malden with Bradshaw Funeral Home of Malden in charge of all arrangements.
