Harold Morrow
Harold Keith Morrow of Kennett, the son of the late Clinton and Lucille Worley Morrow, was born May 4, 1936 at Bismark, N.D. and died at the Methodist Central Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. on March 23, 2002, at the age of 65. Mr. Morrow was a teamster road driver for 17 years, an Emerson Transportation driver for six years, was terminal manager and dispatcher for Jerry Lipps Trucking of Cape Girardeau for two years and retired in 1995. In 2001 he was elected to Independence Township Board, was a veteran of the United States Army stationed in Germany and was member of Calvary Baptist Church in Dexter. He was united in marriage to Joyce Holt on May 18, 1956 in Dexter and she survives of the home in Kennett. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Greg Morrow of Wappapello and Darin Morrow of Holcomb; by four sisters, Joyce Arnold of St. Helen, Mich., Dorothy Cantin of Tidee Island, Ga., Wanda Hart of Henderson, Ky. and Cindy Brown of Mayfield, Ky.; by three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Brian Morrow; by one daughter, Pam Morrow; and by three brothers, Lester, Dale and Bryce Morrow. Visitation was held at McDaniel Funeral Home in Kennett on Monday, March 25 from 6 - 9 p.m. Funeral services were conducted, today, March 26 at McDaniel Funeral Chapel at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dale Rickman officiating. Interment followed in the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter with McDaniel Funeral Service of Kennett in charge of arrangements.
Patrick Rice
Patrick David Rice, son of George Duran of Dexter and the late Carol Jean Burns Rice, was born on March 9, 1966, at Grapevine, Texas, and died at his residence in Dexter on Jan.14, 2003, at the age of 36. Mr. Rice was employed by Tyson Foods in Dexter, a member of the Smith Avenue Church of God in Sikeston, and a resident of Dexter. Survivors include his adoptive father and step-mother, David and Becky Rice of Jackson; his biological father, George Duran of Dexter; two brothers, Justin Rice of Chicago, Ill., and Shaun Duran of Dexter; one sister, Chrysta Lynn Null of Leora; his maternal grandmother, Esther Jean Burns of Dexter; and his maternal grandfather and step-grandmother, Lee Roy and Elizabeth Burns of Dexter. Besides his mother, he was preceded in death by one brother, Jonathan Mark Rice. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 2003, in the Rainey-Mathis Chapel with Rev. Ira Sandefur officiating. Interment will follow in the Bloomfield Cemetery.
Herschel Miller
Herschel P. Miller, age 64, of Essex, and formerly of St. Louis, was born on January 21, 1938, and died on Wednesday, June 19, 2002 at 12:30 a.m. at the Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Peters. He was married to Nina Deal and she survives of the home in Essex. Also surviving are 3 sons; Danny Miller of Colorado Springs, Co., Jimmy Miller of Ballwin, and Rodney Miller of Afton; two daughters Beverley Miller and Debbie Miller both of Arnold; one sister Marie Vaden of Fredericktown. Visitation will be from 4 - 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 20 at Gerber Chapel, 23 W. Lockwood, Webster Groves. Interment will follow at the Essex Cemetery at 1 p.m. at Essex, with Gerber Chapel in charge of arrangements. Obituary information provided by Nunnelee Funeral Chapel.
Mary L. Moore
Mary Lou Moore, daughter of the late Herbert and Luciell Harget Haney was born at Dexter, Mo on September 22, 1929 and died at Cape Girardeau, on June 15, 2002 at the age of 72. Mrs. Moore had spent most of her life in the Bloomfield Community and was a resident of Bloomfield at the time of her death. On September 26, 1947 she was married to Fred Moore, he preceded her in death on November 1, 1996. Survivors include 1 son, Smokey Moore of Bloomfield; 1 daughter, Barbara Banas of Bellview, Fl; 2 brothers, Gary Dale Haney and Donald Wayne Haney both of Cobden, IL; 2 sisters, Lois James and Joyce Haney both of Bernie; 3 grandchildren, 2 brothers and 1 sister preceded her in death. Visitation was held today June 17, at the Chiles- Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield from 9 a.m.- 11. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield, with Rev. Lonnie Clubb officiating. Burial will follow in the North Antioch Cemetery near Bloomfield, with Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield in charge of arrangements.
Lois Shain
Lois Warren Shain, 73, Festus, died June 6, 2002, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital. She was born Aug, 9, 1928, in Arceola, Mo, the daughter of Ivery and Inez (Cox) Warren. She was a credit adjuster for the Union Electric Co. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Festus-Crystal city, Eastern Star and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. She is survived by her husband, John ?Bill? Shain; two daughters, Suzanne Collier of Mableton, Ga., and Patricia (Steve) Nelle of Crystal City; a son, John (Donna) Shain Jr. of Festus; four sisters, Reva Faulkner of Patterson, Mo., Elmira (Robert) Lynn of Coldwater, Mo., Virginia (Charles) Fulbright of Imperial and Nadine (Jerry) Garland of Herculaneum; and seven grandsons, Richard and Shawn Collier, Geoffrey, Jon Paul and Alexander Nelle and John and Matthew Shain. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Earl and Marvin Warren; and a grandson, Christopher Collier. Funeral services were conducted June 10 from Vinyard Funeral Home to First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Margie Woods officiating. Interment is at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the church building fund.
Maxine Rampley
Maxine Rampley, daughter of the late Archie Lee Proffer and Mayme Melvina Lewis Proffer was born on December 27, 1932 at Zadock, Missouri and died in the emergency room of the Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter on June 16, 2002 at the age of 69. Mrs. Rampley was a former employee of Brown Shoe Company in Bernie, a member of the Stoddard County Democratic Women?s Club, the Stoddard County Historical Society and a resident of rural Bloomfield. She was united in marriage to Charles Wayne Rampley on May 25, 1973 at Zadock, Missouri. Mr. Rampley survives of the home. Besides her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Melvina Jane Bolin of Essex; by one brother, Lee Proffer of Bloomfield; by one grandson, Brian Overbey of Bloomfield; by three great-grandchildren, Stevie Harbison, Donni Harbison and Dylan Harbison. Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5 p.m.-8, Tuesday, June 18. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 19, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in the Oak Ridge Cemetery near Bloomfield, with Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.
Rev. Orval James
Rev. Orval L. James, Sr. of Dudley, was born April 3, 1905 in Hoxie, Ark. and died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002 at the Maranatha Village in Springfield, Mo., at the age of 96. Mr. James was a member of the Church of God in Dudley. He was ordained as a Minister in 1976 and had pastored several churches in Southeast Missouri. He was active at the Senior Citizens Center in Dexter and a member of their Friendly Peoples Club and a retired blacksmith and welder. In 1928 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth London and she preceded him in death on Jan. 28, 1949. He then married Mabel Funkhouser on May 27, 1953 and she preceded him in death on Feb. 2, 1994. Survivors include four sons, Orval Lee James, Jr. of Springfield, Mo., Jerry A. James of Phoenix, Ariz., Carl L. James of Zalma and Jesse A. James of Littleton, Colo.; one daughter, Clara Ellen Sparks of Battlefield, Mo.; 24 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; two step-sons, Lowan Griffin of Potosi and Gary Griffin of Batesville, Ark.; two step-daughters, JoAnn Kestner and Janease Harms, both of Dudley; 17 step-grandchildren, 15 step-great grandchildren; and 1step-great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at White-Sanders Funeral Home in Fisk on Sunday, March 3 at 6 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, March 4 at 11 a.m. in the White-Sanders Funeral Chapel with Rev. Jerry Metcalf officiating. Interment will follow in the Dudley Cemetery with White-Sanders Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Lois Mitchell
Lois Imogene Mitchell, daughter of the late Elvis Reynolds and Gladys Irby Reynolds, was born on April 19, 1925, at Dexter and died in the Sheridan Nursing Home at Sheridan, Ark., on Dec. 27, 2002, at the age of 77. Mrs. Mitchell was a homemaker, a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church of Sheridan, Ark. She was united in marriage to Melvin Eugene Mitchell on Nov. 1, 1941, at Clarkton. He preceded his wife in death on July 21, 1984. Survivors include two sons, Melvin Leon Mitchell of Marlow, Okla., and Joseph Wayne Mitchell of Sheridan, Ark.; one daughter, Connie Elaine Mitchell Stubbs of Sheridan, Ark.; one brother, Houston Reynolds of Elgin, Ill.; four sisters, Helen McBride and Faye Bunch, both of Dexter, Sue Dock of Malden and Yvonne Chance of Overland Park, Kan.; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, E.J. Reynolds, and one sister, Janis Fowler. Visitation was held from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie. Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Monday, Dec. 30, 2002, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Walt Hollis officiating. Interment followed in the Bernie Cemetery.
