Raymond Eugene McClain
Raymond Eugene McClain, son of the late Foster McClain and Lillie McGowen McClain was born on January 23, 1930 at Tyronza, Ark. and died at his residence in rural Bernie, on June 24, 2002 at the age of 72. Mr. McClain served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, he was a repairman at General Motors in St. Louis, until his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion at Qulin, and enjoyed gardening. He was united in marriage to Ruby Rines of rural Bernie, on May 24, 1957 at St. Louis, she survives of the home along with, one son, Randy Nickenson of Muskegon, Mich.; by three daughters, Janice Craft of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., Barbara Winkle of the State of Wyoming and Karen McClain of Redding, Calif.; by one brother, Allen McClain of Fisk; by two sisters, Marie Nance of Pocahontas, Ill. and Lois Gilliam of Evansville, Indiana; by 12 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother. Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, June 25, from 5-8 p.m., in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel.Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 26, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Donald Morgan officiating Interment will follow in the Brown Chapel Cemtery at Broseley, with Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Ruth E. (Merkel) Barnard
Ruth E. (Merkel) Barnard died Saturday, June 22, 2002, at the age of 81. She is survived by one son, Ron Barnard; by two daughters, JoAnn Frank and Brenda Barnard; by four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Barnard was united in marriage to the late Eugene A. Barnard. Beside her husband, she was preceded in death by one grandson, Tim Barnard. Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 26, from 1-9 p.m. Funeral service will be conducted Thursday, June 27a 1:30 p.m. at the Hoffmeister South County Chapel, 1515 Lemay Ferry road. Interment will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis with Hoffmeister South County Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.
Billy Gene Glass, Sr.
Billy Gene Glass, Sr. of the late Murl ?Bill? and Ruth Virginia Carter Glass was born in Bernie, on Sept 9, 1939, and died at his home near Bloomfield, on June 22, 2002, at the age of 62. Mr. Glass had lived in Bernie for many years before moving to Bloomfield 25 years ago and was a retired foreman with the Brown Shoe Co. and was a member of the Kimball Street Baptist Church in Malden. On January 30, 1959, he was married to Phyllis Russell in Vinson, Mo. Surviving are four sons; Joshua Glass of Essex, Billy Gene Glass, Jr. of North Port Fla., Richard Glass of Pleasant Hope, Mo., Marcus Glass of Bloomfield, one daughter; Evelyn Denise Gregg of Pleasant Hope, one brother; Charles Glass of Bloomfield, one sister; Brenda Wilson of Henderson, Ky. and fourteen grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother; Carl Glass in 1992 and three sisters; Helen and Evelyn Glass, and Charlene Litton in 1998. Visitation was held Sunday, June 23, from 5-8 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral Services were conducted Monday, June 24, at 1 P.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, with Rev. Sonny Floyd of St. Louis, officiating. Interment followed in the Chalk Bluff Cemetery in Dexter with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
Dr. Michael John Bader
Dr. Michael John Bader, of 509 East Willingham Street, Sylvester, Ga. was born January 26, 1952 and died Monday, June 17, 2002, at Shands University of Florida in Gainesville, Fla., at the age of 50. Dr. Bader was a native of Dexter, but had lived in Sylvester for the last 13 years and was an Extension engineer with the Biological and Agricultural Engineering Department at the University of Georgia Rural Development Center in Tifton. Dr. Bader was a 1970 graduate of Dexter High School and in 1974 he received his BS degree in Agriculture Engineering, in 1982 his MS degree in Ag. Engineering, in 1989 received his PH.D. in Agriculture Engineering at the University of Ky. He was a member of Our Divine Savior Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Louis C. Bader. On April 30, 1988, he was married to Linda Lou Rausch Bader of Sylvester and she survives. Surviving are his mother, Rita L. Litzler Bader of Dexter; two brothers, Louis C. (Butch) Bader Jr. of Scott City and Kenny J. Bader of Columbia, Mo.; four sisters, Catherine Bockhold of Dexter, Shearon Harris of Bernie, Jovita Klott of Hermann, Roberta Cecil of Overland Park, Kan.; four Godchildren, Bonita Harris, Daniel Bockhold Jessica Cecil, Kathrine Evans; one nephew, Steven Bockhold; and four nieces, Angela Lulmer, Katie Cecil, Jennifer Cecil and Audrey Lulmer. The funeral services were held Friday, June 21 at 4 p.m. at Our Divine Savior Catholic Church in Tifton with Father Juan Lopez officiating. Graveside services will be conducted on Monday, June 24, at the Chalk Bluff Memorial Gardens Cemetery near Dexter, with Father John Sheley officiating. Interment will follow with Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of arrangements. O.D. 'Buddy' Denson
O.D. 'Buddy' Denson, son of Nebraska Dunaway Denson of Kennett and the late Robert Andrew Denson, was born on July 27, 1918 at Lawrenceburg, Tenn. and died in the Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter on Feb. 28, 2002, at age of 83. Mr. Denson was a member of the Dexter Church of Christ, the former owner of a lumber company in Parma and a resident of Dexter. He was united in marriage to Anna Knotts on Dec. 31, 1936 at Kennett. Mrs. Denson survives of the home in Dexter. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Jimmy Dale Denson of Wappapello; by one daughter, Dawna Carter of Dexter; by his mother, Nebraska Denson of Kennett; by four sisters, Hazel Baker and Willa Mae Haraway, both of Kennett, Bobbie Cunningham of Parma and Jo Ann Fitterling of Bridgeton, Mo.; by six grandchildren; by eight great-grandchildren; and by eight great-great-grandchildren. Besides his father, he was preceded in death by one brother, Hollis Denson and by one sister, Hildridge Johnson. Visitation was held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5 - 8 p.m., Saturday, March 2. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., today, Sunday, March 3 in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Dale Grissom officiating. Interment will follow in the Malden Memorial Park Cemetery with Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
Lucille Wright
Lucille Wright of Advance was born Nov. 3, 1907 at Zadock, the daughter of the late James and Minnie Bell Morris Duffey, and died June 21, 2002 at the Advance Nursing Center at the age of 94. Mrs. Wright worked at Ward?s Store in Advance for around 20 years before retiring. She attend the Greenbrier Assembly of God Church. Mrs. Wright was united in marriage to Scott Wright on Sept. 9, 1927 at Marble Hill; he proceeded her in death on Jan. 7, 1991. Survivors include one daughter, Evelyn Matney of Advance; three sisters, Melva Borneman of Plato, Georgia Henery and Bertie Cook, both of Bloomfield; and one grandchild. Three brothers, one sister and two grandchildren preceded her in death. Visitation was held Saturday, June 22 at the Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance. Funeral services will be held today, Sunday, June 23, at the Morgan Funeral Chapel beginning at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. James Johns officiating. Interment will following in the Morgan Memorial Park in Advance.
William Jenkins
William Jenkins of Advance was born Nov. 17, 1926 near Tillman in Stoddard County, the son of the late Freeman and Jewel Devore Jenkins and died Friday, June 21, 2002 at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau at the age of 75. Mr. Jenkins graduated from Advance High School in 1945. He was a veteran of World War II, serving int he Army Air Force. Before retiring in 1985, he was a farmer for 25 years, a part-time insurance agency for 22 years and a postal worker in Advance and Cape Girardeau fo 15 years. He was a long-time member of the Hidden Trails Country Club in Dexter and Crowley Ridge Country Club in Bloomfield. Mr. Jenkins was united in marriage to Wanda Tippett on Jan. 13, 1947 and she survives of the home. Other survivors include on son and daughter-in-law, William Anthony and Liana Jenkins of Advance; Nancy Jill and Harry Foster of Hutchinson, Kansas; six grandchildren - Kathy Kirkman of Clarksville, Tenn, Kristi Jenkins of Tulsa, Okla., Erin Cook of Advance and Andrew Jenkins of Advance; William Ross Foster of Antioch, Calif., and Terry Ray Foster of Seattle, Wash.; three great-grandchildren - Katlyn and Bryce Cook and Hannah Kirkman; by three brothers: Lemond Jenkins of Springfield, Earl Jenkins of Sun Lakes, Ariz., and Russel Jenkins of Springfield; one sister; Carolyn Jenkins Visek of St. Charles. He was preceded in death by a sister, Willa Dean Colyer. Visitation will be held today, Sunday, June 23, from 5-8 p.m. at the Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 24 at the Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance with Kristi Jenkins delivering the eulogy and the Rev. Tom Zych officiating. Interment will follow in Morgan Memorial Park.
Jack Parsons
Clinton H. "Jack" Parsons, the youngest son of Joseph W. and Matilda Sanders Parsons, was born near Herrin, Ill. February 19, 1910 and died on June 19, 2002, at the Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter, at the age of 92. Mr. Parsons, a 75 year resident of Stoddard County, is survived by one son, C.H. Parsons, Jr.; by two daughters, Lydia E. Temples and Lurlyn Jo Daniel; by five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was united in marriage on February 11, 1931 to Evelyn Barham Parsons and she preceded him in death on June 29, 1990. Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by 13 brothers and sisters. Mr. Parsons was a charter member of the Dexter Lions Club, having served as president and secretary for over 20 years. He was a past president of the Dexter Chamber of Commerce, a 57 year member of the Kenady Hanks Post of the American Legion and a member of Dexter Elks Lodge #2439. Jack served in the United States Navy during WW II. After the Navy, Jack was an active businessman in the electrical construction business throughout Southeast Missouri and was very active in the civic and political affairs of Dexter and Stoddard County he was an avid supporter of the Lions Eye Tissue Bank. Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5 - 8 p.m., Friday, June 21. Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, June 22, at 11 a.m. at the Dexter Cemetery with Rev. Vaughn Wright officiating . Interment will follow with Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Missouri Lions Eye Tissue Bank at 404 Portland, Columbia, Mo. 65201.
