Loyeal Hoskins
Loyeal Hoskins, the son of the late Norman and Abbie Baremore Hoskins, was born in Sikeston on Jan. 4, 1937 and died at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston on May 29, 2002, at the age of 65. Mr. Hoskins had lived in Morehouse all of his life and was a retired diesel mechanic. He was united in marriage to Norma Ellis on July 19, 1953 at Parma, she survives of the home. Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Bill Hoskins of Oran, Roy and Darrell Hoskins, both of Morehouse; by five daughters, Norma Jean Knuckles of Dexter, Kathy Graham and Cheryl Jones, both of Sikeston, Shelia Rodgers and Daniele Sims, both of Morehouse; by one sister, Susie Waters of Sikeston; by two brothers, Harold Hoskins of Sikeston and Dave Hoskins of St. Louis; by 18 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Larry W. Hoskins on March 28, 1973 and one brother, John Hoskins. Visitation will be held Friday, May 31 from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Morehouse. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, June 1 at 1 p.m. at the 1st Pentecostal Church in Morehouse with Rev. Philip Cook of Springfield, Mo. officiating. Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Morehouse in charge of arrangements.
Charlie Fullerton
Charlie Fullerton, son of the late Clarence E. Fullerton and Ira Ann Mary Frances Inman Fullerton, was born on May 11, 1913 at Parsons, Tenn. and passed away in the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau on May 29, 2002, at the age of 89. Mr. Fullerton was a member of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church in Dexter, a retired farmer, a former employee of the Arlington, Texas Parks & Recreation Department and a resident of Dexter. On Oct. 26, 1935 he was united in marriage to Beatrice Kirby at Hinchcliff, Miss. Mrs. Fullerton survives of the home in Dexter. Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Barbara Lack of Dexter; by one grandson, Nathan Lack of Dexter; by two brothers, John Fullerton of Burleson, Texas and Dewain Fullerton of Portageville; and by two sisters, Earline Smith of Malden and Jeri Oliver of Arlington, Texas. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth Fullerton, Roy Fullerton and Max Fullerton. Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5 - 8 p.m., Friday, May 31, 2002. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 1, 2002 at the Apostolic Pentecostal Church in Dexter with Rev. Jimmy Kirby and Rev. N.A. Haynes officiating. Interment will follow in the Malden Park Cemetery at Malden with Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
Lucille Donley
Lucille Donley, 78, of Advance, was born Sept. 16, 1924, at Bloomfield the daughter of the late Ernest and Ella Elmore Donley, and died Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, at the Advance Nursing Center. Mrs. Donley spent most of her life in the Advance community. She had worked at the Inland Shoe Factory in Advance. Survivors include one daughter, Pam Griffin of Dexter; two brothers, Eugene Donley of Advance and Sammy Donley of St. Louis; one sister, Ruth Garner of Advance; and a grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Edison Donley. Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at the Morgan Funeral Home in Advance. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at the Morgan Funeral Chapel with Rev. Brad Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the Morgan Memorial Park in Advance.
Barney Martin
Bernard John (Barney) Martin, the son of Bernard Jacob Martin and Agnes Margaret McGrath Martin, was born on October 14, 1911 in Paola, Kansas and died on May 29, 2002, after a short illness, at the age of 90. Mr. Martin attended elementary school in Paola and graduated from Paola High School. He received a football scholarship to St. Louis University in 1929 and played with the Billikens. Mr. Martin led the team in scoring during his junior year, while playing Center. After college, Mr. Martin sold insurance in St. Louis and worked as a rural letter carrier in Bloomfield. He was named the Outstanding Rural Mail Carrier for Missouri in 1975. Mr. Martin moved to Dexter during his retirement years and he was one of the founding members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Estelle (Haba) (Allen) Martin. He previously was married to the former Bernice Sebastian until she preceded him in death in 1991. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Kenneth Martin and one sister, Ellen. Other survivors include one brother, Ed Martin of Lyons, Colo.; his nieces and nephews, David Martin of Broomfield, Colo., Mark Martin of Littleton, Colo., Gary Martin of Platte City, Mo., Bernie Martin of Descanso, Calif., Doris June Krause of San Diego, Calif., Alice May Stark of Carson City, Nev., Peggy Harvey of Arlington, Texas; and Rita Cantu of Prescott, Ariz.; his stepchildren, Denise and Neal Ayers of Dexter, Mo., Don Allen, Jr. of Champaign, Ill., Marilyn and Steve Austin of Tucson, Ariz., Karen and Chester Fleming of Celina, Ohio, Mary Jo Allen of Dallas, Texas, and Diane M. Allen of St. Louis, Mo.; and seven step-grandchildren. Mr. Martin was a charter member of the Crowley Ridge Flyers Club. He also was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus, having achieved the third degree. He was instrumental in the founding of the Dexter K of C Chapter and has been the most significant contributor to the building of the Dexter K of C's present facility. He was an active participant in the Senior Olympics for many years and won over two dozen gold medals in the high jump and bowling. Mr. Martin holds the unbroken national record for high jump in the Senior Olympics age group of 70 and over. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and a major donor to the Elks' Building Fund. Mr. Martin was a member of more than 50 years of the Missouri Rural Letter Carriers Association. He also was a member of the Dexter Chamber of Commerce, the DHS Boosters Club, and the Golden Circle at his parish, Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mr. Martin was instrumental in getting the Barney Martin Lanes started, and he later assumed ownership of the lanes. Mr. Martin established the Barney Martin Scholarship at Dexter High School, which is given annually to a DHS football athlete. Mr. Martin was a benefactor of the Stoddard County Children's Home, the Stoddard County Gospel Mission, the Bootheel Youth Museum, the Stars & Stripes Museum, the Center for Family Resources, the College of the Ozarks, St. Jude's Hospital, Shriners' Hospital, Cardinal Glennon Hospital, his parish, and many other community organizations, too numerous to mention. Mr. Martin was an avid reader, an accurate historian, and a prolific storyteller. His warm heart will be genuinely missed. The community will reap the benefits of Mr. Martin's generosity for many generations to come. Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5:30 - 9 p.m., Friday, May 31, 2002. A Rosary Service will be held at 8 p.m. on Friday evening in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 1, 2002 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dexter with Father John Sheley officiating. Interment will follow at the Dexter Cemetery with Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of all arrangements. Ronald 'Moose' Moore
Ronald 'Moose' Moore of North Little Rock, Ark., the son of the late Gay Moore and Georgia McCullough Smith, was born May 29, 1945 at Greenbriar and died May 30, 2002 at the Redsamen Hospital in Jacksonville, Ark., at the age of 57. Ronald worked for Whit Davis Lumber Plus in Jacksonville, Ark. and was a 1963 graduate of Zalma High School. On June 10, 1977, he was united in marriage to Susan Merideth at East Carondelet, Ill. and she survives of the home. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Terry R. Moore of North Little Rock, Ark.; by two daughters, Audra Colwell of Austin, Ark. and Andrea Moore of North Little Rock, Ark.; by four brothers, Keith Moore of Poplar Bluff, Virgil Moore of Zalma, Dennis and Randy Moore, both of Dupo, Ill.; by two sisters, Caren Hazel of Sturdivant and Ronda Hess of Advance; and by one grandson, Alexander McCravey. Visitation will be held at the Morgan Funeral Home in Advance on Friday, May 31 from 5 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, June 1 at 11 a.m. in the Morgan Funeral Chapel with Rev. Keith Price officiating. Interment will follow at the Morgan Memorial Park in Advance with Morgan Funeral Home of Advance in charge of arrangements.
Noel Hunt
Noel Hunt, son of the late Harlen Nelson Hunt and Collie Mae Hughes Hunt, was born ta Bernie on Feb. 3, 1945, and died in the Lutheran Home at Cape Girardeau on Friday, May 31, 2002, at the age of 57. He was a resident of Scott City, formerly of Bernie. Survivors include one brother, Jack Hunt of Cape Girardeau; and one sister, Carron Cruse of Glendale, Ariz. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Fred Wayne Hunt. Visitation will be held from 12-2 p.m. today, Sunday, June 2, 2002, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. John Knapp officiating. Burial will follow in the Bernie Cemetery.
Bessie Summers
Bessie Naomi Summers, daughter of the late Walter Alexander Summers and Allie Davenport Summers, was born at Dexter on July 26, 1927, and died in the University of Chicago (Ill.) Hospital on Thursday, May 30, 2002, at the age of 74. Formerly of Dexter, she was a homemaker and resided in Dowagiac, Mich. Survivors include two sons, John Chappel of Dowagiac, Mich., and Michael Chappel of Kalamazoo, Mich.; two daughters, Deborah Smith and Rebecca Michael, both of Dowagiac; two sisters, Wilma Hyslop and Alfred Reed, both of Dexter; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Carmen Summers and Farrell Summers; and three sisters, Lottie Riley, Dorothy Sneed and Jewell Summers. Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, June 3, 2002 at the Dexter Cemetery with Rev. Phil Warren officiating. Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home of Dexter is in charge of arrangements.
Robert Bratcher
Robert David Bratcher, the son of Edward Cupp and Bertha Bratcher Sherritze, was born in Dexter, on July 23, 1982, and died on June 26, 2002 at the age of 19, due to injuries received in an automobile accident near New Madrid. Robert was a farm laborer and had lived the past 8 years in Risco. Surviving are one daughter; Emalee Jade Bratcher of Parma, his mother; Bertha Sherritze of Risco, his father; Edward Cupp of Bernie, two brothers; Dennie Lee Bratcher and David Keown both of Risco. Visitation will be held Friday, June 28, from 5-8 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Parma. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 29, at 11 a.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Chapel in Parma with Brother Mark Powell of Risco officiating. Interment will follow in the Parma Cemetery, with the Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Parma, in charge of arrangements.
