Henry Hensley
Henry Hensley of Dexter, son of the late Homer and Dokie Adams Hensley, was born on September 22, 1925 in Marston and died on Tuesday, June 4, 2002 at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, at the age of 76. Mr. Hensley was a bricklayer and owned and operated H & H Construction Company. He was also a member of the Church of Christ faith, and a charter member of the Eagles Club. Survivors include three sons, Jimmy Hensley of House Springs, Mo., Danny Hensley of DeSoto, Mo. and Mark Hensley of Sikeston; one sister, Sue Reeves of Dexter; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Visitation will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wed, June 5, at Nunnelee Funeral Home in Sikeston. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. in the Nunnelee Chapel. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery with Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston in charge of arrangements.
Floyd W. Harris
Floyd William Harris, son of the late John and Bertie Sims Harris, was born near Advance on Aug. 29, 1917, and died in the Beverly Healthcare at Bloomfield on Saturday, June 1, 2002, at the age of 84. On Jan. 13, 1940, he was united in marriage to the former Thelma Williams and she survives of the home in Dexter. Mr. Harris worked as an auto dealer before his retirement and served in the U.S.. Army during World War II. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Bloomfield and of Masonic Lodge #488 in Detroit, Mich. Besides his wife, Thelma Harris, he is survived by one son, Jack Harris of Cape Girardeau; one daughter, Judy Dall of Farmington Hills, Mich.; one granddaughter; and three great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters. Visitation will be held at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield from 5-8 p.m. today, Tuesday, June 4, 2002. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, at the funeral home with Rev. Ron Dunivan officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Bell City with Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Clayton Gaines
Clayton L. Gaines, son of the late Fount Gaines and Josie White Gaines was born on January 26, 1927 at Pontiac, Mich. and died in the Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau on June 4, 2002, at the age of 75. Mr. Gaines attended the First Church of the Nazarene in Dexter, retired from International Hat Company in Dexter and then operated a nursery business. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean War. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishiArng. He was united in marriage to Sarah Forkum on August 11, 1951 at Piggott, Ark. Mrs. Gaines survives of the home in Dexter. Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Marlene Sherfield, Janice Bazarian and Connie Smith, all of Dexter; by two brothers, Elvin Gaines of Dexter and Leo Gaines of Winter Haven, Fla. by one sister, Thelma Stacy of Dexter: by four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Earl Gaines, Cecil Gaines and Coy Gaines. Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5 - 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 5. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 6, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Murrell Duffie officiating, Interment will follow in the Chalk Bluff Cemetery at Dexter, with Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Lucille Sheley
Lucille Elizabeth Sheley, daughter of the late A.F. "Spot" Renn and Mary Margaret Grafe Renn, was born on Nov. 30, 1915, at Jefferson City and died in the Cypress Point Healthcare in Dexter on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, at the age of 87. Mrs. Sheley was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dexter, a former member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jefferson City, a member of Daughters of Isabella Glennon Circle, charter member and past president of Karim Khan Grotto Auxiliary, St. Ann's Sodality of Immaculate Conception Church, member of Federated Democratic Women's Clubs, past president of Cole County Women's Jefferson Democratic Club, past chairman of Cole County Democratic Committee, past chairman of Eighth District Central Committee, past president of Eighth Congressional District Women's Clubs, past president of Missouri Federated Democratic Women's Clubs, a former liaison officer for District, State, and Regional Offices in Jefferson City, Kansas City and Chicago, a former employee of Union State Bank in Clinton as Ration and Loan Officer, formerly employed by the State of Missouri by the State Treasurer, Secretary of State, State Senate Clerk's Office and was Executive Secretary for Department of Labor & Industrial Relations. She was appointed Circuit Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cole County and worked in that office for 22 years, having been elected twice. She left county employment and was appointed Personnel Officer for the Department of Safety of Missouri before retirement in 1981. She was united in marriage to W.C. "Woody" Sheley on Feb. 15, 1936, at Jefferson City. Mr. Sheley preceded her in death on Feb. 4, 1988. Survivors include one son, Father John William Sheley of Dexter; one sister, Josephine H. Duncan of Columbia. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Charles F. "Bud" Renn. Friends may call at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003. Rosary services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening. Visitation will then be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at the Buescher Funeral Home in Jefferson City with Rosary services at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jefferson City with Father Patrick Dolan officiating. Entombment will follow in the Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum in the Resurrection Cemetery at Jefferson City. Memorials may be made to the Endowment Fund of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Dexter or to the Immaculate Conception Church in Jefferson City.
Rufus Clay Martin
Rufus Clay Martin, son of the late Henry and Callie Ashlock Martin, was born at Tyronza, Ark., on Sept. 26, 1920, and died at his home in Patton on Dec. 31, 2002, at the age of 82. Mr. Martin had spent most of his life in the Avert Community in Stoddard County. A retired farmer and Church of God minister, he was also former owner of Martin Hill Retirement Center near Avert. On March 20, 1992, he was married to Virginia Cossel. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Martin of the home near Patton; two sons, Gary and Darrell Martin, both of Essex; one daughter, Scarlett "Scottie" Justice of Conroe, Texas; three brothers, Bill Martin of Sikeston, Uton Martin of Springfield and Aaron Martin of Aquilla; one sister, Pauline Lyons of Sikeston; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2, 2003, at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield. Interment will follow in the Walker Cemetery near Bloomfield.
Dennis Jackson
William Dennis Jackson, son of the late Ernest Jackson and Clara McFarlen Jackson, was born on March 20, 1926 at Dexter and died in the emergency room of the Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter on June 3, 2002, at the age of 76. Mr. Jackson was a farmer, a veteran of the United States Marines, serving in World War II, and a resident of Bernie. He was united in marriage to Genivea Franklin on Feb. 14, 1957 at Hernando, Miss. Mrs. Jackson survives of the home in Bernie. Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Gerald Jackson of Dexter, Robert Franklin and Larry Franklin, both of Bloomfield; by eight daughters, Loretta Gammon of Fredericktown, Brenda Irwin of Morley, Linda Myers, Yvonne Gord, Donna Bolin, Joy Burnett and Jill Hampton, all of Dexter, and Brenda Phillips of Rolla; by one sister, Bertha Sedrick of Dexter; by 23 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Clarence Jackson; by two sisters, Beulah Johns and Alberta Moody; and by one son, Dwayne Jackson. Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5 - 8 p.m., Tuesday, June 4. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 5 in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Gerald King officiating. Interment will follow at the Bernie Cemetery with Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
Clearance Parr
Clarence Russell 'Pop' Parr, the son of the late Andy and Monica Lee Lowery Hutton Parr, was born in East Prairie, Mo., on Oct. 20, 1929, and died at his home in Morehouse on June 1, 2002, at the age of 72. Mr. Parr had lived in Morehouse the past 23 years and was an alderman at the time of his death. He formerly resided in St. Louis. On July 5, 1950, he married the former Naomi Casey in Piggott, Ark. Surviving are his wife, Naomi Parr of Morehouse; three sons, Kerry Lee Parr and Gary Dewayne Parr, both of Morehouse, and Timothy Gayle Parr of Sikeston; two daughters, Ruth Ann Helmes and Sharon Rowell, both of Matthews; 11 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, James A. Parr of Albany, Ga., and Jimmie Dale Parr of Fredericktown. He was preceded in death by one son, Terry Russell, and one brother, Paul Parr. Visitation will be held at 5 p.m. today, Tuesday, June 4, 2002, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Morehouse. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 5, at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Morehouse with the Rev. Tom McCanless of Kewanee officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Morehouse in charge of arrangements.
