Linda Edwards
Linda Joy Edwards, the daughter of Daisy Caroline Miller Williams Snider of Bloomfield and the late Emmett Woodrow Williams, was born Sept. 30, 1947, at Clarkton and died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at her residence in Maryland Heights at the age of 55. She was a member of First Southern Baptist Church of Malden. Survivors include her companion, P.J. Burns of Maryland Heights; one son, David Edwards of Nashville, Tenn.; her mother and step-father, Daisy and Loyd Snider of Bloomfield; two sisters, Carol Walton of Cape Girardeau and Peggy Bender of Campbell; and two grandchildren. Visitation will be held at 6:00 p.m. today, Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, at Bradshaw Funeral Home of Malden. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2003, at the Bradshaw Chapel in Malden with Rev. Kenneth Powers and Rev. Ronald Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Malden.
Della Hayes
Della Hayes, the daughter of the late W.S. and Sarah Johnson Hill, was born in McLeansboro, Ill. on Dec. 9, 1910 and died at the Beverly Health & Rehab Center in Poplar Bluff on Jan. 28, 2002, at the age of 91. Mrs. Hayes lived near Fisk and had been a resident of Butler County all her life. She was a member of the Full Gospel Church in Broseley. On Dec. 2, 1925, she was united in marriage to Charley Jacob Hayes. He preceded her in death on April 29, 1990. Surviving are one son, Harrison Hayes of Irondale, Mo.; two daughters, June Marler of Broseley, Berniece Schultz of St. Louis; six grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Johnson Hill of Qulin; and one sister, Gennettie Brown of Fisk. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister. Visitation will be held at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter on Tuesday, Jan. 29 from 6 - 8 p.m. Graveside funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 10 a.m. at the Mole Hill Cemetery near Broseley with Rev. Gerald Berger of Qulin officiating. Interment will follow with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
Robert Hale
Robert Leroy "Roy" Hale of Dexter and formerly of East Prairie, the son of the late Duncan and Mary Myrtle Bailey Hale, was born Dec. 11, 1934 in Woodruff County, Ark. and died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2002 at the Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter at the age of 67. Roy had lived in Dexter for the past 25 years, where he was a member of the Eagles Club and was a retired boilermaker. On Aug. 20, 1956 was united in marriage to Phyllis Stenger Hale, she survives. Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Brenda Hale, Karen Horst of Crown Point, Ind. and Kathy Redar of Winfield, Ill.; by one step-son, Jeff Fyke of Dexter; by five brothers, Tom and Donnie Hale of East Prairie, Harold Hale of Brownwood, Marion Hale of Wappapello and Frankie Hale of Jackson; by two sisters, Margaret Bailey of Fairdealing and Martha Richmond of Longview, Texas; by seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Johnny Hale. Visitation was held on Sunday, Jan. 27 at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie. Funeral services were conducted on Monday, Jan. 28 at 11 a.m. in the Shelby Funeral Chapel with Brother Larry Smith officiating. Interment followed at the East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery with Shelby Funeral Home of East Prairie in charge of arrangements.
Michael Kim Stephens
Michael Kim Stephens, 33, of Bloomfield, was born Jan. 22, 1969, at Cape Girardeau, the son of Michael Stephens and Terri May Geiger, died Dec. 31, 2002, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident. Mr. Stephens was employed at Bluff Honda in Poplar Bluff as a motorcycle salesman. He was a member of the Dexter Elks Lodge #2439 and the Advance Eagles Aerie #4154. Survivors include his father, Michael Stephens of Bloomfield; his mother, Terri Geiger of Bartow, Fla.; a daughter, Danielle Stephens of Tampa, Fla.; paternal grandparents, Charles and Ettadean Stephens of Bloomfield; maternal grandmother, Bernice May of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Jimmy Heiter of Florida; and a sister, Katrina Stephens of Cape Girardeau. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, at the Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2003, at the Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance with Father Frederick Lutz officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Advance. Memorials may be made to Shepherd's Cove Children's Home in Gordonville.
Judy Blackler
Judy Ward-Blackler, the daughter of Reba Brazel Ward and the late James "Jack" Ward, was born in Dexter on Sept. 18, 1952, and died Monday, March 24, 2003, at Three Rivers Healthcare North Campus in Poplar Bluff at the age of 50. Mrs. Blackler was a graduate of Dexter High School. She had lived in St. Charles for several years before returning to Dexter in 1996. She worked as a travel agent with V.I.P. Travels in Dexter and was a member of the United Methodist Church. On Sept. 11, 1982, she was married to Bob Blackler at Camp Lewellen Boy Scout Camp near Silva. She is survived by her husband Bob Blackler of Dexter; three daughters, Brandi Jolle Blackler and Vicki Joriane Blackler, both of Dexter, and Kelly Metcalf of Laurie; one son, Skylor Ward Blackler of Dexter; her mother, Reba Ward of Dexter; two brothers, Rick Ward of Chesterfield and Treye Ward of Jackson. She was preceded in death by one son, James Curtis Blackler; one stepson, Chad Robert Blackler; two brothers, Chuck Ward on July 10, 1992, and Shane Ward who died in infancy. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2003, in the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter with the Rev. Mike Watkins of Dexter officiating. Interment will follow in the Chalk Bluff Cemetery near Dexter. Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter is in charge of all arrangements.
Ruby Goforth
Ruby Goforth, the daughter of the late Charlie and Irene Staples Woodruff, was born in Lepanto, Ark., on Feb. 25, 1913, and died at the Sikeston Health Care in Sikeston on Sunday, March 16, 2003, at the age of 90. Mrs. Goforth had lived in the Catron area the past 65 years. She was a retired school teacher and had worked in the Kewanee and Parma public schools. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Parma, the Extension Club, Parma Senior Citizens and was an Ombudsman. On Jan. 25, 1936, she was married to J.L. "Buddy" Goforth in Wilson, Ark., and he preceded her in death on Jan. 30, 1978. Surviving are one son, Jim Goforth of Catron; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, Charley Woodruff of Trumann, Ark., John Woodruff of Pangburn, Ark., and Wilford Woodruff of Florida; three sisters, Hazel Woodruff and Opal Ward, both of Trumann, Ark., and Cora Lee Wimpy of Valley View, Ark. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Thelma Campbell and Mary Rowland. Visitation was held from 5:30-8 p.m. Monday, March 17, 2003, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Parma. Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. today, Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at the First Baptist Church in Parma with the Rev. John Girdley of Parma officiating. Interment followed in the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Parma in charge of arrangements.
William Abel
William Isom Abel, son of the late Annas Clifford Abel and Annar Kellon Abel, was born on Sept. 24, 1929 at Nauvoo, Ala. and died in the emergency room of the Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter on Jan. 27, 2002, at the age of 72. Mr. Abel was welder with Pullman Standard and a resident of Dexter. Survivors include one son, William Dale Abel of Moberly, Mo.; two daughters, Gail Walker of Dexter and Linda Upton of Jackson, Miss.; one brother, James Abel of Nauvoo, Ala.; three sisters, Essie Gainey, Volora Ann Boshell and Magdaline Youcum, all of Carbon Hill, Ala.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Charlene Atchley, Loriene Youcum and Eva Mae Abel. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002 in the Collins-Burke Funeral Chapel in Jasper, Ala. Interment followed in the Pisgah Cemetery at Carbon Hill, Ala. with Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of all arrangements.
Leatrice Barks
Leatrice Barks of Advance, the daughter of the late Cleve and Clara Myers Jackson, was born Jan. 19, 1922 at Powe and died Jan. 25, 2002 at the Chaffee Nursing Center, at the age of 80. Leatrice was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Advance and also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW. She was united in marriage to Henry Barks on Aug. 6, 1942 at Little Rock, Ark. He preceded her in death on Dec. 4, 1967. Survivors include one son, James Barks of Rolla; two sisters, Veda Boley and Maggie Lancaster, both of Chaffee; a granddaughter raised as a daughter, Jama Robbins of Paris, Tenn.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, four brothers and two sisters. Visitation was held at the Morgan Funeral Home in Advance on Saturday, Jan. 26 from 4:30 - 8 p.m. Funeral services were conducted on Sunday, Jan. 27 at 2 p.m. in the Morgan Funeral Chapel with Rev. Fred Ritter officiating. Interment followed at the Morgan Memorial Park in Advance with Morgan Funeral Home of Advance in charge of arrangements.
