Mary Long

Mary Woodfin Long, 77, of Advance, was born Aug. 29, 1925, at Gibbs, Tenn., the daughter of Harold and Mary Shupe Duncan, and died Sunday, March 9, 2003, at Advance Nursing Center. She retired from Advance School after 42 years of teaching. She was baptized in the Baptist faith. She and Kenneth Long were united in marriage on March 17, 1951, at Piggott, Ark., and he survives. Other survivors include one son, Kenneth Duncan Long of Advance; one daughter, Priscilla Miller of Jackson; one brother, Billy Duncan of Akron, Ohio; one sister, Melissa Williamson of Vienna, Ill.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother. Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. Monday, March 10, 2003, at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance. Funeral service was held at 1 p.m. today, Tuesday, March 11, 2003, at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance with Rev. Wayne Page officiating. Interment followed in Pleasant Hill Cemetery near Advance.

Mabel Fisher

Mabel S. Fisher of Advance and formerly of Lodge, Va., the daughter of the late Samuel Sebra, was born Dec. 5, 1907 at Lodge, Va. and died Dec. 2, 2001 at the Advance Nursing Center at the age of 93. Mabel was a homemaker. She was united in marriage to Samuel Fisher, Sr. in 1921 at Lodge, Va., he preceded her in death. Survivors include one son, Sam Fisher of Advance; two daughters, Violet Swaggert of Chester, Pa. and Delorise Smith of Haynesville, Va.; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, Dec. 7 at 11 a.m. at the Jones-Ash Funeral Home at Heathville, Va. Interment will follow at the Quinten Oak Cemetery at Quinten Oak, Va. with Morgan Funeral Home of Advance in charge of all arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Advance United Methodist Church.

Opal Lee Maack

Opal Lee Hamlin Maack of Sikeston, the daughter of the late William L. and Nannie Jane Barker Smith, was born Aug. 16, 1912 in Parma and died Tuesday, March 19, 2002 at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, at the age of 89. She had been a housewife and homemaker, had worked for the Foster Grandparents Program and was a member of the Vanduser Baptist Church. On Aug. 15, 1930 she was united in marriage to Thomas Hamlin in Bloomfield. He preceded her in death on Dec. 1, 1980. Survivors include two daughters, Wanda Hamlin and Faye Hart, both of Sikeston; one brothers, Lloyd Smith of Rector, Ark.; two sisters, Ruth Evans of Oran and Louise Wilson of Okeechobee, Fla.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one son, one daughter, three brothers, and three sisters. Visitation will be held at the Nunnelee Funeral Home in Sikeston from 5 - 8 p.m., Thursday, March 21. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 22 in the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel with Rev. Glenn Rogers, Pastor of the Vanduser Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Gardens with Nunnelee Funeral Home of Sikeston in charge of arrangements.

Geraldine L. Neuber

Geraldine L. Neuber, daughter of the late Alois Huber and Caroline Hamburg Huber, was born on June 9, 1918 at Lorain, Ohio and died in the Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center in Dexter on March 16, 2002, at the age of 83. Mrs. Neuber was affiliated with the Pentecostal faith, a former Missionary in Haiti and Germany, and a resident of Dexter. She was united in marriage to Walter Neuber on May 28, 1938 at Lorain, Ohio. Mr. Neuber preceded her in death on Dec. 30, 1991. Survivors include one son, Carl Neuber of Dexter; four grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Janet Potter; by three brothers, Alois Huber, Ernest Huber and Eugene Huber; by one sister, Ann Klinghammer; and one grandson, Dwayne Neuber. Visitation was held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 12 - 2 p.m., Monday, March 18, 2002. Funeral services were then conducted at 2 p.m. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Andrew Lovins officiating. Interment followed in the Walker Cemetery near Bloomfield with Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of arrangements.

Nadine Carver

Nadine A. Carver, the daughter of the late Fred A. and Fay Hogue Hefner, was born in McGee on Aug. 31, 1934, and died at her home in McGee on Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at the age of 68. Mrs. Carver had lived in the McGee and Puxico areas all of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary in Wappapello. She was a former member of the Powell Missionary Baptist Church and attended the Corinth General Baptist Church at this time. On May 26, 1951, she was married to Eugene Carver in Piggott, Ark. Surviving are her husband, Eugene Carver of McGee; two daughters, Patsy Smith of McGee, and Barbara Grasham of Blytheville, Ark.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Joy French of McGee and Linda Wilfong of Zalma. She was preceded in death by one son, Gary R. Carver on July 4, 1995. Visitation will be held after 6 p.m. today, Thursday, March 13, 2003, at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Puxico. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 14, 2003, at the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Puxico with the Rev. LeRoy Hefner of McGee officiating and Rev. Larry Underwood of McGee assisting. Interment will follow in the New Hope Cemetery near McGee with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Puxico in charge of arrangements.

Loyd Sandlin

Loyd Sandlin of McDougal, Ark., son of the late Fieldin Floyd and Lela Lawrence Sandlin, was born Aug. 29, 1933 in Catron, Mo. and died Dec. 4, 2001 at his home in McDougal at the age of 68. He was united in marriage to Verna Britt on Feb. 27, 1973, she survives of the home. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Loyd Dale Sandlin; by three grandsons; by three brothers, Charles Floyd Sandlin, Fred Dillinger and Cecil Whitaker; and by one sister, Lela Ester Sandlin. Besides his wife, he is survived by four children, Bobby Joe Sandlin of Mich., Kathy Lippert of Eaton Rapids, Mich., Shelia McCoy of Burfordville and Loyd Gene Sandlin of Sikeston; by 13 grandchildren; by three great-grandchildren; by seven brothers, Raymond Sandlin and Lorenzo Sandlin, both of Poplar Bluff, Fieldin "Sonny" Sandlin and Melvin Sandlin, both of Bernie, Larry Charles Sandlin of Bloomfield, Calvin Sandlin of Dexter and Winford Whitaker of Dudley; by seven sisters, Ollie Gaultney of N.C., Melba Bryant, Mary Dugger, and Darlene Parks, all of Dudley, Bonnie Birchfield of Brosley, Faye Gee of Dexter, and Rebecca Rhode of Poplar Bluff. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Dec. 6 at 6 p.m. at the Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home in Piggott, Ark. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. in the Hoggard & Sons Chapel with Rev. Willie Sandlin officiating. Interment will follow in the Browns Chapel Cemetery in Brosley with Hoggard & Sons Funeral Home of Piggott, Ark. in charge of all arrangements.

Virginia Featherston

Virginia Featherston, the daughter of the late Clyde Wilson and Helen Elizabeth Stratton Frazier, was born in Aurora, Ill. on April 1, 1925 and died at the Missouri Southern Healthcare facility in Dexter on Nov. 29, 2001, at the age of 76. Mrs. Featherston was a homemaker and a former resident of Butler County. She had been a resident of Dexter since 1986. She is survived by one daughter, Helene Frances Cagle of Dexter; by two sons, Jon Ray Featherston of Gladstone, Mo. and Ronald Blaine Featherston of Texas; by eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. There were no funeral services. Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter was in charge of all arrangements.

Freeda Crain

Freeda Crain, daughter of the late Perly Collier and Laura Ann Hogg Collier, was born on Aug. 26, 1910 at Diehlstadt, Mo. and died in the Lutheran Home at Cape Girardeau on Dec. 1, 2001, at the age of 91. Mrs. Crain was a former employee of Elder Manufacturing in St. Louis and Dexter, a former resident of Dexter and was currently residing in Cape Girardeau. She was united in marriage to Rufus "Doc" Crain on July 2, 1938 at New Madrid. Mr. Crain preceded her in death on Oct. 11, 1992. Survivors include one son, Carlon Crain of Dallas, Texas; by one daughter, Phyllis Oliver of Cape Girardeau; by one sister, Leeda Glenn of Las Vegas, Nev.; by three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Fred Collier. Visitation was held at the Rainey Funeral Home in Dexter from 10 - 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 3. Funeral services were then conducted at 11 a.m. in the Rainey Funeral Chapel with Rev. Clifford Wray officiating. Interment followed in the Hagy Cemetery with Rainey Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of all arrangements.
