Bessie A. Noyes
Bessie A. Noyes, daughter of the late Charles Plez Bowman and Amelia Nolan Bowman, was born at Parma on Oct. 14, 1908 and died in the Three Rivers Healthcare North Campus at Poplar Bluff on Dec. 9, 2001, at the age of 93. She was united in marriage to Lincoln James Noyes at Toledo, Ohio on Feb. 25, 1927. To this union three children were born. Mr. Noyes preceded her in death on April 27, 1975. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Dixie A. Murphy and Faye O. Noyes; by two brothers, Claude Bowman and Raymond Bowman; by two sisters, Ethel Garrison and Mildred Parker. Mrs. Noyes was a cook for Middlesmith School of Rural Bernie and cooked for the Bernie School District in Bernie until her retirement in 1973. She was of the General Baptist Faith. She is survived by one son, Jerry Noyes of Bernie; by one granddaughter; and by one great-granddaughter. Graveside services were conducted at the Bernie Cemetery on Tuesday morning, Dec. 11 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Maxwell Lewis officiating. Interment followed in the Bernie Cemetery with Rainey Funeral Home of Bernie in charge of all arrangements.
Roy A. Poe
Roy Ashley Poe, son of the late Terry and Cora Stacey Poe, was born at Bloomfield on Aug. 22, 1911 and died at Central Gardens in Dexter on Dec. 9, 2001, at the age of 90. Mr. Poe had spent his entire life in Bloomfield and retired from Elder Manufacturing Co. in Bloomfield in 1975. He was a 50 year member and Past Master of Bloomfield Lodge #153 A.F. & A.M. and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Bloomfield, where he remained very active until recent ill health prohibited him. On Dec. 24, 1932 he was united in marriage to Agnes Hankins and she preceded him in death on April 30, 1992. In Jan. of 1993, he married Hollie Yeakey and she preceded him in death in March 2000. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Liszewski on April 10, 1992 and one son, Rev. James R. Poe on Nov. 18, 2001. Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Bell of Dexter and Brenda Horner of Imperial, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Visitation was held at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield from 5 - 8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 9. Masonic Rites were given at 7 p.m. by the Bloomfield Lodge #153 A.F. & A.M. Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 11 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Ron Dunavin officiating. Interment followed in the West Pleasant Valley Cemetery with Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home of Bloomfield in charge of all arrangements.
Dwight Stotts
Dwight D. Stotts of Sturdivant, the son of Lottie Rogers Meese of Sturdivant and the late Chester Stotts, was born Sept. 23, 1956 at Advance and died March 11, 2002 at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, at the age of 45. Besides his mother, he is survived by three sons, Dwight Stotts, John Stotts and James Stotts, all of Sturdivant; by two brothers, Larry Stotts of Sturdivant and Jeff Rogers of Zalma; by five sisters, Karen Shirrell and Denise Cato, both of Zalma, Joan Wall of Brownwood, Debbie McCall of Sturdivant and Kim Buehler of Gipsy. Besides his father, he was preceded in death by five brothers. Visitation was held at the Morgan Funeral home in Advance on March 12 from 5 - 8 p.m. Funeral services were held, today, Wednesday, March 13, at 1 p.m. in the Morgan Funeral Chapel with Bro. Jack Rogers and Bro. Dale Rogers officiating. Interment followed at the Community Church of Christ Cemetery in Lowndes with Morgan Funeral Home of Advance in charge of arrangements.
Ora Correll
Ora Mae Correll, daughter of the late Robert and Marie (Green) Burnett, was born March 31, 1922, at Kennett where she grew up and attended school. On June 14, 1939, she was united in marriage to Pike Correll in the state of Arizona. To this union three children were born: Bill, Carolyn and Robert. Mr. and Mrs. Correll were both baptized at the Church of Christ near Dexter. In her earlier years, she was a midwife with the Poe Clinic in Dexter. There are several individuals in the Southeast corner of Missouri who have been delivered by Mrs. Correll. Later on, they ran the cafeteria in the Federal Court Building in St. Louis. She dedicated her life to the love and care of her family. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved cooking, tending to her flowers, gardening, watching the birds and especially the squirrels. She was always willing to help others, even when she was not physically able to do so. Mrs. Correll died the evening of Jan. 7, 2003, at Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla at the age of 80 years, nine months, and seven days. Mrs. Correll is survived by her husband, Pike Correll of the home; two sons, Bill Correll and his wife Lynne of Stanton and Robert Correll and his wife Jo Anne of Arnold; one daughter, Carolyn Strauser and her husband Dale of Waynesville; one sister, Velma Barker of Dexter; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. She will be reunited with her parents, one sister, Ola Duckworth, and two brothers, John and Ernest Burnett.
Dr. Laurie Reif
Dr. Laurie Louise Reif, daughter of the late Theron W. Aslin and Dorothy Kimmy Aslin, was born May 5, 1929 in Lynwood, Calif. and died Dec. 3, 2001 in Lubbock, Texas, at the age of 72. She graduated from Glendale High School and received her PHD. in Clinical Psychology from Kinsington University in Santa Babara, Calif. in 1991. She was a licensed Clinical Psychotherapist and owned Wellness Clinic in Carlsbad, N.M. She was the first female standard bass player accepted by Musicians Union in Los Angeles, Calif., was a member of Vintage Quartet, Phi Beta Kappa Psychology Association, Kiwanis Club in Carlsbad, also being the first female accepted for membership. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church, Loving Baptist Church and was an active musician in various churches. She moved to Lubbock from Carlsbad, N.M. in Sept. 2000. On Oct. 10, 1978, she was united in marriage to Kurt W. Reif in Los Angeles, Calif., he survives of the home. Besides her husband, she is survived by her mother, Dorothy Aslin of Carlsbad, N. M.; by three sons, Stephen Klein of Wichita Falls, Texas, Thomas Klein of Roswell, N. M. and Adrian Reif of Los Angeles, Calif.; by five daughters, Elizabeth Thomas of Clovis, N.M., Bella Marie Flores of Covina, Calif., Teresa Guadamuz of Las Vegas, Nev., Stephanie Reif and Jennifer Reif, both of Venice, Calif.; by 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Memorial services were held at White Memorial Chapel in Lubbock, Texas on Dec. 8 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Willard Bone officiating. Cremation services were under the direction of White Funeral Home of Lubbock.
Brian Rickman
Brian W. Rickman, son of Peggy Darlene Williams Weems and Charles Edward Rickman, was born Nov. 11. 1976 at Dexter and died in the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston on March 4, 2002, at the age of 25. He was of the Church of God Faith, was a former welder at Wheelers Trailer Company of Morley. Survivors include his mother and step-father, Peggy and Jerry Weems of Benton; his father, Charles Edward Rickman of Forrest City, Ark.; two brothers, Carl Edward Rickman and Joseph Keith Rickman, both of Sikeston; one step-brother, William "Sonny" Hammer of Fulton; one step-sister, Betty Amanda Rhodes of Sikeston; his maternal grandmother, Wretha Minton of Bernie; his paternal grandparents, Woody and Emma Rickman of Lilbourn; his great-grandmother, Dorothy Jenson of Santa Ana, Calif. He was preceded in death by one brother, Steven Lynn Rickman. Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie from 5 - 8 p.m., Wednesday, March 6. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Thursday, March 7 in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Darrell Pollock officiating. Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery with Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home of Bernie in charge of arrangements.
Effie Loughary
Effie Margaret Loughary, 89, of marble Hill, was born May 25, 1912 in Madison County, the daughter of the late Charlie Burlbaugh and Pearl May Huggins and passed away Dec. 06, 2001 at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. Effie and Abner Loughary were united in marriage in 1933 at Zalma and he preceded her in death in 1986. Effie was a homemaker. Survivors include one son; Abner "Junior" Loughary, of Perkins; three grandchildren and one great-grandson. Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. - 11 a.m., at the Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance. Interment will be at the Berrong Cemetery in Gipsy.
Matthew Allen Hanham
Matthew Allen Hanham, son of Cathy Walker Hanham of Dexter and William John Hanham of Rochester, Mich., was born on Oct. 5, 1977 at Pontiac, Mich. and died at his residence in Dexter on Dec. 4, 2001, at the age of 24. Matthew was a graduate of Bernie High School and a resident of Dexter. Besides his mother and father, he is survived by two brothers, Michael Walker of Dexter and Johnny Lee Walker of St. Louis; by two sisters, Terri Michelle Hanham of Warren, Mich. and Jennifer Lynn Hanham of Dexter; and by his maternal grandmother, Jonelle Walker of Bernie. A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 10:30 a.m. in the First Baptist Church in Essex with Rev. Dennis Ward officiating.
Theorthis Lee
Theorthis Lee, 72, son of the late Ben Lee and Ida Mae Burnett Lee, was born Oct. 25, 1930, in Malden and died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003, at his residence in Malden. Mr. Lee was united in marriage in 1954 to Classie Dukes, and she survives of the home in Parma. Mr. Lee was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War. Other survivors include two sons, Theorthis Lee, Jr. of Malden, and Marvin DeWayne Lee of Sierra, Ariz.; nine daughters, Marilyn Allen of Elkhart, Ind., Mamie Brown, Vera Nix, Ida Mae Jones, Margaret Lee, Anita Hill, Thurmanda Lee, and Arlene Lee, all of Malden, and Deborah Hill of Essex; one sister, Mae McCoy of Malden; one step-sister Debra Green of Chicago, Ill., 30 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandson and one brother. Visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, until service time at Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at the Bradshaw Chapel in Malden with Rev. Gene Perkins officiating. Interment will follow in Macedonia Cemetery in Malden with military rites.
