Marilyn S. Clayton Webster
Marilyn S. Clayton Webster, 64, of Rockford, Ill., died Monday, Oct. 22, 2001, in OSF St. Anthony Medical Center after a brave battle with cancer. Born Oct. 12, 1937 in Dudley, she was the daughter of Samuel and Margaret Green Nash. She lived 37 years in Rockford after moving there from Dudley. She married Verlin D. "Pug" Clayton on Dec. 1, 1955 in Hernando, Miss. He died in 1978. She was employed at Cam-Car Textron for 22 years, retiring as an inspector in 1999. She was of the Baptist faith, an avid golfer and traveler. Survivors include a son, Anthony (Kelly) Clayton of Roscoe, Ill.; daughters, Tonya (John) Haas, Regina (Roger) Boyd, Judith (Rick) Harper and Karen (Steven) Harris, all of Rockford; grandchildren, Ginger, Shawn, Keith and Chris, Whitney, Shane, Hillary, Brandon, Corey and Chayse; great-grandchildren, Skylure, Maddison and Christian; sister, Patsy (Charles) Turner of Davis Junctions, Ill.; many wonderful nieces, nephews and cousins; and a special friend, Jim Myers. She was pre-deceased by her parents. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, in the Ulrey Funeral Home. Services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 26, 2001, in Ulrey Funeral Home Chapel of the Chimes, 7000 W. State St., with Pastor Arnold Guy of 20th Street Missionary Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in Big Mound Cemetery, Holcomb. Memorials may be made in care of the family.
Virginia Lee
Virginia Lee, daughter of the late Charlie Chase and Zelma Dennington Chase was born on Sept. 29, 1920, at Ordway, Colo., and died in the Three Rivers Healthcare North Campus in Poplar Bluff on Dec. 18, 2001, at the age of 81. Mrs. Lee was a member of the Dudley Community Church, a housewife and a resident of Dudley. Survivors include two sons, Charles E. Lee, of Excelsior Springs and Donald W. Lee of Dudley; and two grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Nina Tuley and Reva McDonald. Visitation will be at the Rainey Funeral Home in Dexter from 10 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 21, 2001. Funeral services will then be conducted at 1:30 p.m., in the Rainey Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ryan Helton officiating. Interment will follow in the Dudley Cemetery.
James Tenney
James J. Tenney of St. Ann, Mo., the son of Juanita Tenney of St. Ann and the late Joe Tenney, was born May 7, 1937 in St. Louis and died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001 at St. John Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur, at the age of 64. Mr. Tenney is survived by his mother; his wife, Mary Ann Tenney; by one son, Aaron Tenney; and by two sisters, Linda Cronin and Anna Niederschulte, all of St. Ann. Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 20 at 10 a.m. at Collier's Funeral Home in Bridgeton. Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. at Green-Cox Cemetery near Delta. Morgan Funeral Home of Advance was in charge of all local arrangements.
James Watkins
James Donald Watkins of Dexter, the son of the late Homer and Emma Berry Watkins, was born Sept. 9, 1932 in Sturdivant and died on Dec. 17, 2001 at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston at the age of 69. He was a retired truck driver, mechanic and carpenter. Survivors include three sons, Randy Watkins of Bonne Terre, Gary Watkins of Chaffee and Jimmy Watkins of Linwood, Wa.; two step-sons, Larry Dugger of Zalma and Everett Dugger of the state of Texas; two daughters, Gala Deckard of Brownwood and Kathy Barrett of Poplar Bluff; one brother, Ronald Watkins of Prett, Kan.; three sisters, Evelyn Colbert, Elva Jackson and Melvina Martin, all of Advance; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at the Morgan Funeral Home in Advance on Wednesday, Dec. 19 from 5:30 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, Dec. 20 at 11 a.m. in the Morgan Funeral Chapel with Rev. John Tolbert officiating. Interment will follow in the Cato Cemetery near Arab with Morgan Funeral Home in Advance in charge of all arrangements.
Paul Ellis
Paul Ellis, the son of the late William and Pearl Dowdy Ellis, was born in Risco on Aug. 25, 1927 and died at the Sunbridge Nursing Home in Edwardsville, Ill. on Dec. 17, 2001, at the age of 74. Mr. Ellis was a retired pipe layer and had worked for McMullen Excavating for many years. He had lived in Catron, Bernie and Dexter before moving to Granite City, Ill. three years ago. On Oct. 25, 1947, he was united in marriage to Louise Bennett in Piggott, Ark., she survives of the home. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Paul Richard Ellis of Granite City, Ill.; by three daughters, Paulette Green and Carol Jane Ellis, both of Granite City, Ill. and Joyce Cagle of Carriere, Miss.; by seven grandchildren; by nine great-grandchildren; by three brothers, Edwin Ellis of Lilbourn, Dale Ellis of Dexter and Billy Joe Ellis of Morehouse; and by two sisters, Margaret Baker of Dexter and Norma Hoskins of Sikeston. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Daisy Breece. Visitation will be held at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter on Tuesday, Dec. 18 from 5 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 11 a.m. in the Watkins & Sons Chapel with Rev. Arvel Edmonds of Bernie officiating. Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery in Bernie with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of all arrangements.
Perryline Uhles
Perryline Uhles of Malden, the daughter of the late William Perry and Lillie Bell Brock Harmon, was born March 16, 1906 at Desha, Ark. and died at the Three Rivers North Healthcare in Poplar Bluff on Dec. 15, 2001, at the age of 95. She was united in marriage to William Henry Uhles on Jan. 19, 1924 in Desha, Ark., he preceded her in death. Mrs. Uhles was affiliated with the New Prospect Baptist Church in Malden. She is survived by one daughter, Glendola Hodges of Bernie; by two granddaughters; by four great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden on Tuesday, Dec. 18 from 6 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at 11 a.m. at the Bradshaw Chapel in Malden with Rev. Perry Hiddleson officiating. Interment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Malden with Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden in charge of all arrangements.
Margaret "Marge" Reynolds Williamson
Margaret "Marge" Reynolds Williamson, daughter of the late Arthur Cierpiot and Laura Jasper Cierpiot, was born on Dec. 31, 1919 at Washington, Mo. and died in the St. John's Mercy Medical Center at Washington on Dec. 17, 2001, at the age of 81. Mrs. Williamson was a member of the Sweet Prospect General Baptist Church in Dexter, a retired secretary of Elder Manufacturing in Dexter and a former resident of Dexter, currently residing in Washington, Mo. She was first united in marriage to Donald Verner Reynolds on April 2, 1948 at St. Louis. Mr. Reynolds preceded her in death on Oct. 24, 1974. She then married Herman B. Williamson on Dec. 17, 1981 at Dexter. Mr. Williamson preceded her in death on Nov. 2, 2001. Mrs. Williamson was also preceded in death by one sister, Jean Marie Cierpiot and one brother, Bernard Cierpiot. Survivors include three step-sons, David Williamson of Winfield, Herman "John" Williamson of Bloomfield and Rick Williamson of Bayonne, N.J.; by one step-daughter, Candy Lynn Milkewicz of the State of New Jersey; by one sister, Dorothy Casey of Kirksville; by nine step-grandchildren; and seven step-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at the Rainey Funeral Home in Dexter on Tuesday, Dec. 18 from 5 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 19 in the Rainey Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dean Williams officiating. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery with Rainey Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of all arrangements.
Branon Garrett
Branon Garrett, the son of the late T.M. and Clyde Palmer Garrett, was born in Stoddard County on Oct. 1, 1923 and died at his home in Dexter on Dec. 14, 2001, at the age of 78. Mr. Garrett was a retired truck driver. He was a former resident of Mich. before moving to Dexter 35 years ago. He was a member of the 2nd General Baptist Church in Dexter and served in the United States Army during World War II. On Oct. 29, 1967, he was united in marriage to Zelpha Harris at Dexter, she survives of the home. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, Robert Garrett of Detroit, Mich.; by two daughters, Jeanne Kirby and Karen Wendorff, both of Detroit; by two step-sons, Darrell and Garey Teeters, both of Yucaipa, Calif.; by two sisters, Ora Powers and Hilda Ellis, both of Zepher Hills, Fla.; by several grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother. Visitation was held on Monday, Dec. 17 from 9 - 11 a.m. at the Watkins & Son Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 17 in the Watkins & Sons Chapel with Rev. Phil Warren of Dexter officiating. Interment followed in the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of all arrangements.
