William Evans
William Norton "Dude" Evans, age 84, a resident of Bloomfield and formerly of East Prairie, died at 11:00 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at the John Cochran Veterans Medical Center in St. Louis. Mr. Evans was born March 31, 1918, at Hickman, Ky., to the late William and Nettie Lee Johnston Evans. He had lived in the East Prairie area most of his life moving to Bloomfield in 1979. A member of the First Christian Church in East Prairie, he was a retired farmer and machinist and was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. On Oct. 26, 1946, he married Lois Lovella Frix who survives of Bloomfield. Also surviving are two sons, James Curtis Evans of Dallas, Texas, and William George Evans of Bloomfield; three daughters, Donna Forbey of Bloomfield, Netta Stevens of New Orleans, La., and Treva Doris King of East Prairie; one sister, Leola Poole of Jackson; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Two brothers, James P. Thomas and infant Prather Thomas preceded him in death. Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where funeral services were scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27, 2003. Rev. Kenneth Biggs, pastor of the First General Baptist Church of Dexter, officiated. Interment followed in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery near Charleston with military graveside rites conducted by the Missouri Military Honors Program.
Elsie Watson
Elsie N. Watson, of the late Luther S, . and Norma B. Noel was born April 23, 1923 and died in Sikeston on Dec. 28, 2001, at the age of 78. Besides her parents, Mrs. Watson was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Eugene Watson. She was a resident of Portageville, Ark., and was a secretary at Portageville High School and was a member of the Presbyterian faith. Survivors include two daughters, Jeannie Gow of Dexter and Beverly Visalli, of Greenwood, Ark.; one brother, Buena Noel, of Rockford, Ill.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 31, at the Irby Funeral Home in Piggott, Ark. Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation at the Irby Chape. Interment will follow in the Mitchell Cemetery in Greenway, Ark. Irby Funeral Service in Piggott in charge of arrangements.
Carel G. Perry
Carel Glenn Perry, son of the late Earl Foster and Wilma Marie Perry, was born at Bernie on Oct. 7, 1923 and died in the Beverly Health Care at Malden on Dec. 26, 2001, at the age of 78. Besides his parents, Mr. Perry was preceded in death by two brothers, John McNece and Delmar McNece; by two sisters, Wanda Dillman and Linda Kay Schulte. He was a World War II Veteran of the United States Army. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of Powe. Survivors include three brothers, Wendell McNece of Oxford, Miss., Verl McNece of Bernie and Keith McNece of East Alton, Ill.; and three sisters, Norma Jean Bishop of Ridgeland, Miss., Nina Denisen of St. Charles and Helen Wright of Springfield, Mo. Visitation will be held at the Rainey Funeral Home in Bernie on Friday, Dec. 28 from 5:30 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the Rainey Funeral Chapel on Dec. 29 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Keith McNece officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethany Cemetery in rural Campbell. Rainey Funeral Home of Bernie in charge of arrangements.
Doris Cain
Doris Cain, daughter of the late Gardner Alexander and Mary Alice Starks Ray, was born in Frisco on Feb. 9, 1911 and died at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston on Dec. 26, 2001, at the age of 90. Mrs. Cain had resided in the Essex area most of her life. She had been a teacher at the Hale School before her marriage and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dexter. On Jan. 9, 1935 she was married to Glendon G. Cain in Dexter. He preceded her in death on July 10, 1974. Surviving are one son, Don Cain of Matthews; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Marshall of Poplar Bluff and Olive Mitchell of Rogers, Ark. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Robert Ray Cain in 1944; four brothers and four sisters. Visitation will be held on Friday, Dec. 28 after 12 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. in the Watkins & Sons Chapel with Rev. Fred Leist of Dexter officiating. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
Anna M. Voss
Anna Marie Voss, daughter of the late Pete Farfalla and Mary Picaloe Farfalla, was born on Nov. 19, 1922 at Kansas City, Mo. and died in the emergency room of Missouri Southern Healthcare at Dexter on Dec. 25, 2001, at the age of 79. Mrs. Voss was of the Catholic Faith, a former Red Cross worker in Paragould, Ark., a former resident of Dexter, and a resident of Paragould. Survivors include one son, Chuck Rogers of Lafe, Ark.; one daughter, Ellen Marie Brown of Dexter; three brothers, Benny Farfalla of Omaha, Neb., Sammie Farfalla of the State of Calif., and Jimmy Farfalla of Portland, Ore.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Mathew Farfalla and Frankie Farfalla; by four sisters, Josey Nelson, Rosie Fitzpatrick, Batina Tussey and Katie Ford. Visitation will be held at the Rainey Funeral Home in Dexter from 5 - 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 27. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 28 in the Rainey Funeral Chapel with Father John Sheley officiating. Interment will follow in the Hagy Cemetery with Rainey Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of all arrangements.
Pansy Reese
Pansy "Pat" Mae Reese of Malden, the daughter of the late Henry Ray Miskell and Berna Ethel Reeves Miskell, was born March 20, 1925 in Parma and died Dec. 24, 2001 at her home at the age of 76. She was the owner/operator of Pat's Daycare Center in Malden and a member of the Kimball Baptist Church in Malden. Pat was first married to George Crafton who preceded her in death. She later married Lloyd Rubel, who also preceded her in death. Her third husband, Vernon Reese, survives of the home in Malden. Besides her husband, Rev. Vernon Reese, she is survived by one son, George Dennis Crafton of Medford, N.J.; by three grandchildren; by two great-grandchildren; by six step-grandchildren; by one sister, Daisy Schaeffer of Dexter; and numerous step-great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a step-son, Marlin Reese and several brothers and sisters. Visitation will be held at the Landess Funeral Home in Malden from 6 - 9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 28. Funeral services will be conducted in the Landess Funeral Chapel on Saturday, Dec. 29 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Gene Lancaster officiating. Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery with Landess Funeral Home of Malden in charge of all arrangements.
James C. Ross
James C. Ross, son of the late James P. Ross and Eunice Corlew Ross, was born on March 23, 1925, at Detroit, Mich., and died in the Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at the age of 77. Mr. Ross was a member of the A.R.K. of Hope Church near Dexter, a retired farmer and businessman, a member of the Essex Masonic Lodge, a former board member of Citizens Bank in Dexter, a former board member of the Dexter Memorial Hospital, past president of the Essex-Gray Ridge Lions Club, a former member of the Essex and Richland School Boards, a member of the American Legion and a former Scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts of America. He was united in marriage to Helen L. Christman on June 22, 1947, at Dexter. Mrs. Ross survives of the home in Essex. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, James Alan Ross of Chesterfield; one daughter, Pamela Ann Waggoner of Dexter; two sisters, Norma Kelley of Essex and Betty Swinger of O'Fallon; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Evelyn Baker, Gloria Lee Ross and Glenda Mae Ross. Visitation was held from 9:30-11 a.m. today, Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services were then conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday morning with Rev. Ernie Rogers, Rev. David Hardin and Rev. David Craig officiating. Interment followed in the Essex Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Stoddard County Children's Home.
Adlean Bristow
Adlean Beatrice Bristow of Malden, the daughter of the late Artie Berry Gray and Rosie Ellen White Gray, was born March 18, 1925 in Blytheville, Ark. and died at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau on Dec. 25, 2001, at the age of 76. Mrs. Bristow was of the General Baptist faith. She was united in marriage to John W. "Bill" Bristow on July 9, 1945 in Holly Springs, Miss. He preceded her in death on Dec. 8, 1986. She is survived by two sons, Johnnie Bristow of Bernie and Bobby Bristow of Malden; by one daughter, Karen Lacewell of Jackson; by eight grandchildren; and by three great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Agnes Ellsworth, Rachel Gentry and Naomi Grey; and by one brother, Jack Dempsey Gray. Visitation will be held at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Malden on Thursday, Dec. 27 at 6 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the Bradshaw Funeral Chapel at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 28 with Rev. Scott Keller officiating. Interment will follow at the Memorial Park in Malden with Bradshaw Funeral Home of Malden in charge of arrangements.
