Russell Clark
Russell C. Clark, the son of the late Arch and Mary VanSyoc Clark, was born in Puxico on June 4, 1932 and died at the Alton Memorial Hospital in Alton, Ill. on March 8, 2002, at the age of 69. Mr. Clark was a former resident of the Puxico area before moving to Shipman, Ill. He was a truck driver for Amoco Oil Company before retiring in 1993. He was a member of the Honda Motorcycle Club, The Gold Wing Motorcycle Club, Teamsters Local #525 and the Lewis Clark Radio Club in Godfrey, Ill. He served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. On Nov. 27, 1955, he was united in marriage to Pansy R. McClard in Dexter, she survives of the home in Shipman, Ill. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Valerie Roach of Brighton, Ill. and Vonda Walter of Godfrey, Ill.; by five grandchildren; and by three brothers, James Clark of Fosterburg, Ill., Jearl Clark and George Clark, both of Puxico. Visitation will be held Monday, March 11 at the Watkins & Son Funeral Home in Puxico from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. Funeral services will then be conducted at 1:30 p.m. in the Watkins & Sons Funeral Chapel with Rev. Johnny Buttry of Puxico officiating. Interment will follow in the Puxico Cemetery with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Puxico in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Woodburn Calvary Baptist Church in Woodburn, Ill.
Ralph Young
Ralph (Jimmy) Edward Young of Campbell, son of the late Alonzo Virgil Young and Leona Brandon Young, was born Nov. 16, 1916 in Carrier Mills, Ill. and died on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2001 at the Veterans Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. at the age of 84. He was a retired house painter and carpenter, a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II and was a Purple Heart recipient. He was a member of the Campbell Calvary Baptist Church. Mr. Young was preceded in death by three brothers, Howard Young, Earl V. Young and Clyde Young; and two sisters, Irene Ferrell and an infant sister. Visitation will be held at Landess Funeral Home in Campbell on Friday, Oct. 12 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the Landess Funeral Chapel on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 2 p.m. with Rev. James Epps officiating. Interment will follow at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Campbell with Landess Funeral Home of Campbell in charge of all arrangements.
Vernon Gillis
Vernon L. Gillis, the son of Maxine Garner Gillis and the late Gene Leo Gillis, was born Dec. 15, 1948 in Dexter and died on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2001, at his residence following an extended illness with cancer at the age of 52.
He was a faithful member of the Campbell Street Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon, a 1973 graduate of Southeast Missouri State University, a 25 year employee of Quaker Oats, now know as Aurora Foods and an avid deer hunter and bass fisherman.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Jennifer Redmond Gillis; by two daughters, Rachel Nell Gillis and Amy Redmond Gillis; by one son, Jeff Hal Gillis, all of Bells; by four sisters, Phyllis Menley, Linda Stearns and Lori Whitehead, all of Dexter, and Nancy Viviano of Florrissant; and by one brother, Donald Gillis of Haughton, La.
Visitation was held on Friday, Oct. 5 from 4 - 8 p.m. and on Saturday, Oct. 6 from 1 p.m. until the time of funeral services at the George A. Smith and Sons North Chapel in Jackson, Tenn. Funeral services were held on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 3 p.m. at the Campbell Street Church of Christ in Jackson, Tenn. Interment followed in the Maury City Cemetery in Crockett County, Tenn. with George A. Smith and Sons North Chapel in charge of all arrangements.
Nora Caldwell
Nora E. Caldwell, daughter of the late Lafayette Dees and Laura Phelps Dees, was born on Dec. 24, 1910 at Clubb, Mo. and died in the Jerseyville Manor in Jerseyville, Ill. on March 20, 2002, at the age of 91. Mrs. Caldwell was a member of the Gospel Assembly Church in Dexter, a homemaker and a resident of Dexter. She was united in marriage to Loan H. Caldwell on March 26, 1932 at Steele. Mr. Caldwell preceded her in death on July 21, 1993. Survivors include one son, Gary Lee Caldwell of Dexter; by three daughters, Patsey Ruth Hampsey of Godfrey, Ill., Deanna Hose of Branson and Barbara Jo Gans of Naples, Fla.; by one sister, Catherine Horn of Modesto, Calif.; and by two grandchildren. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Virginia Maxine Caldwell and Jackie Marie Caldwell; by one sister, Clora Mouser; and by several brothers. Visitation will be held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 1 - 2 p.m., Saturday, March 23. Funeral services will then be conducted at 2 p.m. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Clyde Shaw officiating. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery with Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
Bradley Henson
Bradley Albert Henson, the son of Willis A. Layton and Iva J. Henson, was born in Poplar Bluff on Dec. 23, 1987 and died at his home in Dexter on March 8, 2002, at the age of 14. Bradley was a life long resident of Dexter. Surviving are his father, Willis A. Layton of Dexter; his mother, Iva J. Henson of Dexter; two brothers, Robert Cullum and Raymond H. Henson, both of Dexter; and one sister, Natalie J. Henson of Dexter. Visitation was held on Saturday, March 9, from 5 - 8 p.m. at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services were conducted, today, Sunday, March 10, at 1 p.m. in the Watkins & Sons Funeral Chapel. Interment followed in the Link Cemetery near Bloomfield with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
Dorothy Rainey
Dorothy E. Rainey, daughter of the late Orville Chesley Rainey and Nina Norman Rainey, was born on Oct. 2, 1914 at Dexter and died in the Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center in Dexter on Oct. 6, 2001, at the age of 87. Ms. Rainey was a former employee of Elder Manufacturing in Dexter, a member of the Dexter Church of Christ and a resident of Dexter. She is survived by one brother, Charles Rainey of Bonne Terre; and by two sisters, Ruth Dreadon and Evelyn Duley, both of Dexter. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers, Marvin Rainey, Lee Rainey, Loyd Rainey, Bob Rainey, Haden Rainey and Dale Rainey. Visitation will be held at the Rainey Funeral Home in Dexter on Tuesday, Oct. 9, from 5-8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10, in the Rainey Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dale Grissom officiating. Interment will follow in the Hagy Cemetery in Dexter with Rainey Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of all arrangements.
James Barber
James L. Barber, the son of Juanita Peppers Barber and the late Louis H. Barber, was born in Charter Oak, Mo. on Aug. 29, 1948 and died at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston on Oct. 8, 2001, at the age of 53. Mr. Barber had been a resident of Gray Ridge most of his life and had lived in Sikeston the past four years. He had served in the United States Army in Vietnam and received a Silver Star. He is survived by one son, James Barber Miller of Conway, Mo.; by one daughter, Jennifer Jo Helms of Sikeston; by his mother, Juanita Barber of Essex; and by two sisters, Carolyn Wasbutsky of Sikeston and Sharon Benthal of Portageville. Visitation will be held at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter on Tuesday, Oct. 9 from 5 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will by conducted on Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 1 p.m. in the Watkins & Sons Chapel in Dexter. Interment and full military honors by the Southeast Missouri Honor Guard of Poplar Bluff will be held in the Essex Cemetery with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of all arrangements.
James Teel
James Dallas Teel, the son of the late Wesley E. and Arcadia Alice Crow Teel, was born in Randles, Mo. on July 18, 1932 and died at the Stroud Regional Medical Center in Stroud, Okla. on Oct. 5, 2001, at the age of 69. Mr. Teel had lived in Parma, spent time in Fla. and Texas before moving to Okla.. in 1977, and was a resident of Chandler, Okla. at the time of his death. He was a retired farm manager with E.B. Gee Farms and Cotton Gin in Parma, had worked at the Mahan Cotton Gin and was a veteran of the United States Army. On April 3, 1959, he was united in marriage to Sherrill Nussbaum in Hornersville, Mo., she survives of the home in Chandler. Besides his wife, he is survived by one son, James D. Teel II of Edmond, Okla.; by one daughter, Arcadia 'Katie' Sloan of Broken Arrow, Okla.; by two grandchildren; by three sisters, Jessie Kovaleski and Emma Nell Posk, both of Marysville, Calif. and Virginia Teel of Minneapolis, Kan.; and by one brother, Ottis Teel of Canon City, Colo. Visitation will be held at the Watkins & Sons Funeral Home in Dexter on Wednesday, Oct. 10 after 9 a.m. Graveside services with full military honors will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 10, at 10:30 a.m. at the Bernie Cemetery in Bernie with Rev. Robert Martin of Memphis, Tenn. officiating. Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery in Bernie with Watkins & Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of all arrangements.
