Fernie Julius was born on Sept. 25, 1929, in Puxico to the late Lestie and Minnie Mossman O'Neal and died Monday, Nov. 22, 1999, at her home near Puxico at the age of 70.

W. Alfred McCain was born on June 19, 1925, in West Frankford, Ill., and died Sunday, Nov. 21, 1999, at his home in Marble Hill at the age of 74.
Jesse Martin
Jesse Martin was born on Jan. 24, 1902, in Southern Illinois to the late Isaac and Rose Amanda Rollison Martin and died Sunday, Nov. 21, 1999, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau at the age of 97.

Aline Loretta Land, a resident of Dexter, died Nov. 22, 1999, at her home.
Henry Jordan
The Rev. Henry Jordan was born on Jan. 11, 1927, in Portageville to the late Needham and Rosa Fourthman Jordan and died Monday, Nov. 22, 1999, at Dexter Memorial Hospital at the age of 72.
Wilma Hoch
Wilma Hobbs Hoch of Poplar Bluff was born May 5, 1926 in Percival, Iowa and died March 10, 2002 at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, at the age of 76. Mrs. Hobbs retired in 1989 from the Division of Family Services. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Poplar Bluff, a member of RSVP serving on the Board of Directors, and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at Doctors Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff. On July 20, 1991 she was united in marriage to Charles Joseph Hoch in Poplar Bluff, he survives. Besides her husband, survivors include one son, James A. Hobbs of Poplar Bluff; two daughters, Diane Mitchell of Dexter, and Debbie Wethington of Poplar Bluff; one step-daughter, Carolyn Reinberg of Grand Rapids, Mich.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held at First United Methodist Church in Poplar Bluff on Tuesday, March 12 beginning at 11:30 a.m. Funeral services will then be conducted at 1 p.m. with Rev. Kurt Schuermann officiating. Interment will follow in the City Cemetery with Cotrell Funeral Service of Poplar Bluff in charge of arrangements. John Hartwell
John William Hartwell Sr., son of the late James Alexander Hartwell and Sarah Wigington Hartwell, was born at Hayti on July 31, 1911 and died in the V.A. Medical Center at Memphis, Tenn. on Aug. 30, 2001, at the age of 90. He was united in marriage to Gladys C. Crutchfield in Piggott, Ark. on July 24, 1951. To this union three sons were born. She preceded him death on Jan. 23, 1990. He was also preceded in death by four brothers and five sisters. Mr. Hartwell was a World War II Veteran of the United States Army, served as Campus Police at the St. Louis University in St. Louis until his retirement, was a member of the Four Mile Masonic Lodge of Campbell and attended the Beechwell General Baptist Church of rural Campbell. He is survived by three sons, John William Hartwell II of Florissant, James Douglas Hartwell of Ferguson, and Robert Manley Hartwell of Spanish Lake, Mo.; by 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and by one brother, George Hudson Hartwell of Thayer. Visitation will be at the Rainey Funeral Home in Bernie on Fri., Aug. 31 from 5-8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the Rainey Funeral Chapel in Bernie on Sat., Sept. 1 at 11 a.m. with Rev. John Schlager of Campbell officiating. Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery at Bernie. Rainey Funeral Home in Bernie in charge of arrangements.
Calvin Rodgers
Calvin Rodgers, a resident of Dexter, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001, at his residence. He was 76. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by the Rainey Funeral Home in Dexter.
Rose E. Rush
Rose E. Rush, 78, was born June 15, 1923 at Poplar Bluff and died at her residence in Puxico on Aug. 10, 2001. She was united in marriage to Harold Rush Sr. on Oct. 6, 1945 and he preceded her in death on Feb. 17, 2000. Mrs. Rush lived in the Puxico area many years and had attended Oak Grove General Baptist Church near Puxico. Survivors include one son, Harold Rush Jr. of Puxico; four daughters, Ruth Ann Kirkpatrick of Tatum, N.M., Jessie Watson of Puxico, Louise McLeary of Puxico and Ruby Rogers of Cape Girardeau; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. Visitation was held on Mon., Aug. 13 at 6 p.m. at the Morgan Sifford Funeral Home in Puxico. Funeral services were held on Tues., Aug. 14 at 11 a.m. at the Morgan Sifford Funeral Chapel with Rev. Gary Cooper officiating. Interment followed at the Little Brushy Cemetery at Wappapello with Morgan Sifford Funeral Home in Puxico in charge of arrangements.
Mary Morgan
Mary Morgan, a former resident of Puxico, was born Dec. 7, 1919 at Risco and died Aug. 12 at the Beverly Healthcare in Bloomfield at the age of 80. She was united in marriage to Virgil Morgan who preceded her in death. Mary had worked as a nurses' aid for the Puxico Nursing Center for many years. She is survived by two daughters, Sandy Brown of Bloomfield and Debbie Morgan of Nashville, Tenn.; and one son, Corky Morgan of Marble Hill; two brothers, Junior Boyt of Puxico and Perry Boyt of Dexter; four sisters, Margie Worley of Dexter, Gloria Clowers of Marble Hill, Donna Boyington of Grandin and Dorothy McClard of Bloomfield; and five grandchildren. Visitation will be Tues., Aug. 14 at 6 p.m. at the Morgan-Sifford Funeral Home in Puxico. Funeral services will be Wed., Aug. 15 at 2 p.m. at the Morgan-Sifford Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in the Puxico City Cemetery with Morgan-Sifford Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Hallie Bennett
Hallie Maureen Howard Bennett, a resident of Bloomfield, died Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, at Sharon Towers Nursing Home in Charlotte, N.C. at the age of 93. She is survived by one daughter, Anne Edwards of Rolla; one son, Dan Bennett of Charlotte, N.C.; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield.
Charles Choat
Charles D. Choat, son of the late Albert Edward Choat and Essie Pullum Choat, was born on Jan. 3, 1928 at Puxico and died in the St. Francis Medical Center at Cape Girardeau on Aug. 11, 2001 at the age of 73. Mr. Choat attended the Mt. Pisgah General Baptist Church near Bloomfield, was a self-employed heavy equipment operator and a resident of Bloomfield. He was united in marriage to Maxine Caldwell on Aug. 16, 1947 at Poplar Bluff. She survives of the home in Bloomfield. Besides his wife, he is survived by one daughter, Sharon Stanford of Dexter; by one granddaughter, Adwan Fowler of Dexter; by one great-grandson, Dylan Fowler of Dexter; by five sisters, Edna Scates of Poplar Bluff, Vivian Merideth of Bloomfield, Jean Mattingly of Puxico, Glenda Propst of House Springs and Mary Ruth Brown of Dallas, Texas. He was preceded in death by one son, Charles Lavan Choat; by three brothers, Earl Choat, Howard Choat and Isaac Choat; and by one sister, Pearl Sutton. Visitation was held on Sun., Aug. 12 from 5-8 p.m. at the Rainey Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services were conducted in the Rainey Funeral Chapel on Mon., Aug. 13 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Bob Bradford and Rev. Robert Lafferty officiating. Interment followed in the Bloomfield Cemetery with Rainey Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Laddie Smith
Laddie May Smith, a resident of Dexter, the daughter of the late Walter Neff and Veda Neff Oliver was born on Dec. 15, 1918 at Dexter and died on Aug. 11, 2001 in the Southern Missouri Healthcare in Dexter at the age of 82. Mrs. Smith was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dexter, the former librarian for Dexter Senior High School, retiring in 1981 after serving 31 years in education, a member of the Stoddard County Retired Teachers Assoc., the past matron of the Dexter Chapter of the O.E.S., a member of the Missouri Southern Healthcare Auxiliary and a resident of Dexter. She was united in marriage to LaVelle Smith on June 22, 1946 at Sikeston. Mr. Smith preceded her in death on Nov. 25, 1975. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Doris Hardy Eltzroth of Bloomington, Ind. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Herman Lee Hardy, Leon Hardy and Howard Hardy; by two sisters, Juanita Hardy Wilson and Frances Hardy Mason. Visitation was held Sun., Aug. 12 from 5-7 p.m. at the Rainey Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services were conducted on Mon., Aug. 13 at 10:30 a.m. in the Rainey Funeral Chapel with Rev. Wayne Dismuke officiating. Interment followed in the Dexter Cemetery with Rainey Funeral Home in Dexter in charge of arrangements.
