Charlotte Violet Watters
Charlotte Violet Watters, daughter of the late Charles Radosevich and Josephine Kum Radosevich, was born Sept. 7, 1925, at Chicago, Ill., and died at All Saints Special Care Hospital in Bridgeton on Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2003, at the age of 77. Mrs. Watters was a bookkeeper for the Chicago Stock Exchange.
Ilene Weymouth
Ilene Weymouth, daughter of the late Rhesa and Ruth Burns Dick, was born at Granite City, Ill., on June 12, 1929, and died at the St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2003, at the age of 73. Mrs. Weymouth had spent most of her life in the Granite City, Ill., area.
Ernest Cook
Ernest William “Bill” Cook, the son of the late Ernest A. and Mattie Burge Cook, was born in Puxico on April 22, 1926, and died at the Arlington Hospital in Arlington, Texas, on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, at the age of 76. Mr. Cook had lived for many years in Texas.
Bessie A. Parris
Bessie A. Parris, the daughter of the late William Christopher and Annie Elizabeth Hibbs Henson, was born in Lepanto, Ark., on June 7, 1922, and died at the Missouri Southern Healthcare Facility in Dexter on Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, at the age of 80. Mrs. Parris had lived in Dexter most of her life.
Herschel Miller
Herschel P. Miller, age 64, of Essex, and formerly of St. Louis, was born on January 21, 1938, and died on Wednesday, June 19, 2002 at 12:30 a.m. at the Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Peters.
Vergil C. Maze
Vergil C. Maze of Kalamazoo, Mich., died Thursday afternoon, January 10, 2002. Vergil was born Oct. 15, 1921, in Dexter, a son of Robert D. and Minnie (McGowan) Maze, Sr.
Barney Miller
Barney Miller, son of the late Robert Emmett Miller and Elizabeth Trotter Miller, was born on July 14, 1920, at Lutesville and died at his residence in Dexter on Friday, Jan. 11, 2002 at the age of 81.
Henry Jordan
The Rev. Henry Jordan was born on Jan. 11, 1927, in Portageville to the late Needham and Rosa Fourthman Jordan and died Monday, Nov. 22, 1999, at Dexter Memorial Hospital at the age of 72.
Fernie Julius
Fernie Julius was born on Sept. 25, 1929, in Puxico to the late Lestie and Minnie Mossman O'Neal and died Monday, Nov. 22, 1999, at her home near Puxico at the age of 70.
W. McCain
W. Alfred McCain was born on June 19, 1925, in West Frankford, Ill., and died Sunday, Nov. 21, 1999, at his home in Marble Hill at the age of 74.
Jesse Martin
Jesse Martin was born on Jan. 24, 1902, in Southern Illinois to the late Isaac and Rose Amanda Rollison Martin and died Sunday, Nov. 21, 1999, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau at the age of 97.
Edith Massey
Edith Massey, daughter of the late James A. and Lillie Mathis Henley, was born at Nogallus, N.M. on May 12, 1908, and died at the Beverly Healthcare Center in Bloomfield on June 21, 2001, at the age of 93.
Mrs. Massey was a member of the Methodist Church and had been a resident of Bloomfield since 1952.
On September 13, 1927, she was married to William C. Massey in Alamogorodo, N.M. He preceded her in death on January 9, 1992.
Survivors include three sons, William C. Massey, Jr. and Larry Massey both of Bloomfield and John Massey of Spring City Tenn.; two daughters, Phyllis King of Bellflower, Mo. and Vickie Moore of Dexter; one brother, Ruben Henley of Baton Rouge, La.; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield from 6-8 p.m. Friday, June 22. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 23, at 10 a.m. at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Rev. Susan Marner-Sides officiating. Burial will follow in the Walker Cemetery with Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Charles Hess
Charles W. Hess, 71, of Bell City, was born November 3, 1929, at Painton, the son of the late Earl and Blanche Dean Hess, and died June 20, 2001, at his home after an extended illness.
Charles retired in 1991 after 25 years of service at Hunter Engineering Company in St. Louis. He was a member of the Bell City United Methodist Church and the Bell City Masonic Lodge. Charles was a Veteran of the United States Army.
He was married to Doris Abner in marriage on August 15, 1949, at Bloomfield and she survives of the home.
Other survivors include three daughters, Dottie Neldon of Wright City, Mo., Mary Garza of Inverness, Fla., and Kathy Molos of St. Peters, Mo.; two sisters, Eunice Vancil of Collinsville, Ill. and Frances Eberdhart of Belleville, Ill.; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Visitation will be held Friday, June 22, from 5-8 p.m., at the Morgan Funeral Home in Advance with Masonic Rites at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 23, at 2 p.m., at the Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance with Rev. Charles Garza and Rev. Linda Zych officiating. Interment will follow in the Williams Cemetery in Perkins with Morgan Funeral Home of Advance in charge of arrangements.
Verla Parker
Verla Mae Parker was born on April 1, 1938, in Ash Hill to Pansy Gilpin Macom Holt and the late Clarence Macom and died Monday, April 17, 2000, at Dexter Memorial Hospital at the age of 62.
Mrs. Parker was a homemaker and had lived in St. Louis, Massachusetts and Maine before moving to Dexter in 1990.
On Feb. 23, 1957, in Brockton, Mass., she was married to Robert L. Parker. He survives of Dexter.
Additional survivors include one daughter, Patricia Sarah Lamphier of Panama City, Fla.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her mother, Pansy Holt of Dexter; three brothers, Eli Macom of Reno, Nev., John Macom of Blue Hill, Maine and Earl Macom of Morrill, Maine; other relatives and many friends.
Memorial services will be held at a later date with Watkins and Sons Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of all arrangements.
Ed Churchill
Ed Churchill was born on Sept. 28, 1922, in Stuttgart, Ark., to the late Paul Lee and Sybil Hale Churchill and died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at Dexter Memorial Hospital at the age of 77.
Mr. Churchill had lived in Jonesboro, Ark., before moving to Dexter in 1964. He was the owner/operator of Churchill Landscape Co. for 60 years before his retirement. He had served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
On Jan. 16, 1954, in Piggott, Ark., he was married to Joyce Clark. She preceded him in death on Oct. 21, 1989.
His survivors include two sons, Eddie Churchill of Iselin, N.J., and Don Churchill of Hoboken, N.J.; one daughter, Teresa Mouser of Essex; three grandchildren, Eric Weaver of Tempe, Ariz., Nicholas Griffin of Marie, Ark., and Martha Morey of Teaneck, N.J.; one great-granddaughter, Isabella Morey of Teaneck, N.J.; two brothers, Charles Churchill of Dexter and Harold Churchill of Jonesboro, Ark.; one sister, Marie Bryant of Wasco, Calif.; three stepbrothers; other relatives and many friends.
He was also preceded in death by one brother, Verlin Churchill.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, April 20, 2000, at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, April 21, 2000, in Watkins and Sons Funeral Chapel in Dexter. The Rev. Bobby McCool of West Memphis, Ark., and the Rev. Billy McCool of Knoxville, Tenn., will officiate and burial will follow in the Dexter Cemetery, with Watkins and Sons Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of all arrangements.
E.M. Blackman
Eathel May Blackman, daughter of the late Wesley Baker Bond and Matilda Richardson Bond was born at McLeansboro, Ill. on May 14, 1897, and died in the Dexter Memorial Hospital on June 21, 2001, at the age of 104.
She was united in marriage to Earl Blackman at Bloomfield on April 17, 1913. To this union six children were born. He preceded her in death on September 26, 1964.
Mrs. Blackman was a school teacher at White Oak School in Bernie for several years. She was a member of the Sugar Tree General Baptist Church of Bernie where she served as secretary and treasurer for 30 years. She also served as secretary and treasurer for the General Baptist Association for 40 years.
She is survived by two sons, O.E. Blackman of Bernie and Delmer E. Blackman of Dexter; 15 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four daughters, Etoil Cayts, Vivian Botsch, Melba Blackman and Hazel Blackman.
Friends may call at the Rainey Funeral Home in Bernie on Saturday, June 23, from 5-8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted in the Rainey Chapel in Bernie, Sunday, June 24, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dell Blackman officiating. Interment will follow in the Bernie Cemetery with Rainey Funeral Home of Bernie in charge of arrangements.
Murl Clary
Murl Clary, son of Vevlean Hamby Clary of Dexter, was born on Oct. 24, 1935, in Bloomfield and died Sunday, April 16, 2000, at the Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota, Fla., at the age of 64.
Mr. Clary was a retired electrician, working for General Motors. He was a 1954 graduate of Dexter High School and a resident of Prudenville, Mich.
His survivors include one son, Donald Ray Clary of Florida; one daughter, Carmen G. Clary of Bay City, Mich.; his mother, Vevlean Clary of Dexter; one sister, Maxine Garner of Dexter; a special friend, Diane Stein; other relatives and many friends.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, April 19, 2000, in the Caroline-Dowdy Cemetery near Dexter. The Rev. Jim Adams will officiate, with Rainey Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of all arrangements.
