Lena Stroud
Lena Mildred Baker Stroud, daughter of the late John Baker and Elizabeth Breedlove Baker, was born on April 1, 1919, at Jasper, Ark., and died in the Three Rivers Healthcare North Campus at Poplar Bluff on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, at the age of 84. Mrs. Stroud was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Bloomfield. She worked in the housekeeping department at the Dexter Nursing Center and was a resident of Dexter. She was united in marriage to Edward Leslie Stroud on Dec. 14, 1941, at New Madrid. Mr. Stroud preceded her in death on July 22, 1989. Survivors include one son, Roger Stroud of Dexter; four daughters, Dorothy Sexton of Bloomfield, Debra Stroud, Pebel Frederick, and Candace Warren, all of Dexter; one sister, Eileen Shatswell of Kansas City; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Pat Dodson. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today, Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, 2003, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. David Hardin officiating. Interment will follow in the Essex Cemetery.
Ezra Hart
Ezra Melton Hart was born Aug. 29, 1921 in Parma, Mo. and died Feb. 27, 2002 in Yuma, AZ., where he lived since 1986. He was the son of the late Martin Allen Hart and Hannah Melton Hart. Ezra was preceded in death by six older brothers, one sister and his youngest child, Clara Jo (Jody). He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Geneva, and five children, Jean Hart (Alexander Zatarain) of Los Altos, CA., Larry Hart (Sandra Hart) of Cathlamet, WA., Kay Hart (David Patterson) of Portland, OR., Michael Hart of Vancouver, WA., and Stephen Hart (Sharon Hart) of Cathlamet, WA. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and friends, all of whom will miss him. Ezra was a member of the United Methodist Church since early adultdhood. He was also a member of the Longview-Kelso B.P.O.E. and a past president of the Kelso Lion's Club. He had many interests including wood working, stringed musical instruments, and gardening. Ezra's sense of humor and gregarious nature were his defining characteristics. A memorial service will be held at Gila Mountain United Methodist Church, 12716 N. Frontage Road in Yuma, AZ. 85367. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the building fund for the Gila Mountain United Methodist Church or to the charity of choice.
Vernon K. Francis
Vernon Francis, son of the late Joe Francis and Mable Joseph Francis, was born on Nov. 27, 1932, at Frisco, and died at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau on Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2003, at the age of 70. Mr. Francis was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Frisco, a retired farmer, a veteran of the United States Army, a member of Dexter Masonic Lodge #532, a member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of St. Louis and a member of the Shriners. Mr. Francis was united in marriage to Louise Causey on Aug. 30, 1952, at Essex. Mrs. Francis survives of the home in Dexter. Besides his wife, Mr. Francis is survived by two sons, Keith Francis of Ozark and Kevin Francis of Dexter; two brothers, Bill Francis of St. Louis and Don Francis of The Villages, Fla.; one sister, Ruthie Avery of Essex; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. today, Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 5, 2003, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home with Rev. Harold Gass officiating. Interment will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
Harold Gene Belcher, Sr.
Rev. Harold Gene Belcher, Sr., 78, of Poplar Bluff, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 2003, at Three Rivers Healthcare, North Campus, in Poplar Bluff. He had been in declining health for the past six months. Visitation is tentatively scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, 2003, at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service is tentatively scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2003, at the First Baptist Church in Dexter.
Terry Crowe
Terry Crowe, 49, of Matthews, died Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield.
Diana “Nanner” Holderfield
Diana “Nanner” Holderfield, daughter of Danny West of Bloomfield and Wanda Grubbs West of Dexter, was born on Jan. 4, 1970, at Dexter and died near Bloomfield as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Friday, April 18, 2003, at the age of 33. She was of the Baptist faith and a resident of Bloomfield. Survivors include three sons, Joshua Holderfield, Aaron Joe DeJournett and Vincent Michael Wakefield, all of Bloomfield; one daughter, Danielle Nicole Holderfield of Bloomfield; her father, Danny West of Bloomfield; her mother, Wanda Cookie West of Dexter; her stepfather, Von Baker of Dexter; two brothers, Jamie West of Ava and Jason West of Bloomfield; two half-brothers, Shawn West and Bobby West, both of Festus; four step-brothers, Jeff Baker of Puxico, Brian Baker of Lebanon, Michael Baker of Dexter, and Justin Wilson of Bloomfield; four step-sisters, Tammy Baker of Dexter, Susan Wilson of Jonesboro, Ark., Dawn Wilson and Angie Wilson, both of Bloomfield; her maternal grandparents, Jake and Jean Grubbs of Dexter; her paternal grandparents, Harold and Dorothy Foster of Bloomfield; and one grandchild. Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2003, at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter. Funeral service was conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2003, in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Karen Oldham officiating. Interment followed in the Dexter Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the care of Diana Holderfield’s newborn infant and her other children in care of her mother, Wanda Grubbs West.
James Earl Lenderman
James Earl Lenderman, age 92, of Matthews, formerly of Circle City, died on Sunday, April 20, 2003, at 11:50 a.m. He was born on May 14, 1910, in Delaplaine, Ark., to the late Levi and Mattie Williams Lenderman. He was of the General Baptist faith and had been a farm worker for many years with the Herman Smith Farms. On Oct. 16, 1937, he married Trudie Ann McClain in Blytheville, Ark., and she survives of the home. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Larry Lenderman of Sikeston and Harold Lenderman of Morehouse; one daughter, Pat Greer of Morehouse; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Lorn Lenderman; one daughter, Patricia Lenderman; two brothers; and two sisters. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today, Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel. Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23, 2003, in the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel with Rev. H. Worth of Essex officiating. Interment will follow in Bloomfield Cemetery.
Velda Condict
Velda Mae Condict, daughter of the late Robert Pear McGowan and Gertrude Russell McGowan, was born Sept. 6, 1930, in Detroit, Mich., and died Sunday, April 20, 2003, at Cypress Point Healthcare in Dexter at the age of 72. Mrs. Condict had been a babysitter for many years and a homemaker. She was a resident of Bernie. She was united in marriage to Clifford N. Condict on March 1, 1950, at Piggott, Ark. Mr. Condict survives at the home in Bernie. Besides her husband, she is survived by three sons, Norman Donald Condict, Clifford Condict, Jr., and Barry Wayne Condict, all from Bernie; three daughters, Judy Carolyn Arnold of St. Louis, Lela Ann Smith and Susan Lee Reif, both from Bernie; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert McGowan and Donald McGowan; and one sister, Betty Regan. Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2003, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie. Funeral service was conducted at 10 a.m. today, Tuesday, April 22, 2003, at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel in Bernie with Pastor Dale Hartle officiating. Interment followed in the Bernie Cemetery.
Joe Pollock
Mr. Joe Pollock, 63, of Jefferson City, died Monday, April 21, 2003, at the Capital Region Medical Center. Mr. Pollock was born April 8, 1940, at McKenzie, Tenn., the son of William H. and Margaret A. Belew Pollock, both deceased. He was married on April 2, 1966, at Gleason, Tenn., to Marianne Margrave who survives at the home. Mr. Pollock was a 1958 graduate of Dexter High School and a 1965 graduate of the University of Tennessee at Martin with a B.S. in Education. He served in the United States Navy from 1959 until 1963. Mr. Pollock was employed by Sperry New Holland, later as the district manager with the Filper Magnuson Company, and lastly was employed by Associated Industries of Missouri. A resident of the Jefferson City area since 1983, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a past member of the Daybreak Optomist Club. Other survivors include: one son, Brad Pollock of St. Louis; and one daughter, Amanda Pollock Swanstrom of Oak Grove. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 24, 2003, in the Freeman Chapel with the Rev. Jerrol Boehmer officiating. Graveside service and interment with military honors will be conducted at Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call at the Freeman Mortuary, 915 Madison Street, Jefferson City, Mo. 65101, from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2003. Virginia Acord
Virginia Acord was born Sunday, Aug. 1, 1915 in Stoddard County, and died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, at her residence in Cape Girardeau. She was the daughter of Theodore Acord and Millie Walker Acord. The family moved to Cape Girardeau 80 years ago from Stoddard County. Miss Acord was a graduate of Center High School, and had worked at International Shoe Company for over 40 years. Survivors include her cousins Burley and Peggy Pruett and Ron Acord, all of Cape Girardeau, Jim and Rose Walker of Bloomfield, and Bill and Nancy Webb of Dexter.
