Hermon Ross
(February 18, 1924 - January 23, 2011)
Cecil “Hermon” Ross, son of the late Bundy Curtis and Mary Cordelia (Chronister) Ross, was born February 18, 1924 in Low Wassie, Missouri and departed this life January 23, 2011 at his residence in Van Buren, Missouri.
He had attained the age of eighty-six years, eleven months and five days.
Mr. Ross was a longtime resident of Van Buren; he was a self-employed Sinclair gas station owner and also worked on the Carter County Road and Bridge crew.
He was of the Protestant belief and enjoyed fishing and hunting, and he loved Current River and his family.
On August 7, 1978 he was united in marriage to Ella Marie Lankford in Van Buren, MO.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Ross of Van Buren; three sons, Larry Ross and his wife, Gwen, Ralph Ross and Darrell Ross and his wife, Candy all of Van Buren; one daughter, Marilyn Taylor and her husband, Mac of Van Buren; one step-daughter, Tracy Chitwood and husband, Tom of Van Buren; two step-sons, Bryan Barnes and wife, Anna of Siloam Springs, Ark. and Jimmy Barnes and wife, Pat of Gentry, Ark.; one brother, Lester Ross and wife, Wilda Joyce of Van Buren; one sister, Hazel Black of Roswell, NM; twenty-two grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends who mourn his passing.
In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by three brothers, Doyle Ross, Charles Robert Ross and Lloyd Ross and one sister, Goldie.
Visitation: 6:00 p.m. Friday, January 28, 2011 in the McSpadden Funeral Home in Van Buren, MO.
Funeral: 1:00 p.m. Saturday in the Funeral Home Chapel.

Mary M. O'Dell
(July 1, 1928 - January 12, 2011)
Mary M. O’Dell, daughter of the late James Monroe and Bessie (Hill) Daniels, was born July 1, 1928 in Van Buren, Missouri and departed this life on January 12, 2011 in Winona, Missouri.
She had attained the age of eighty-two years, six months and eleven days.
Mrs. O’Dell had resided in Winona for the past few years and was formerly of Van Buren and Laramie, Wyoming, where she was a waitress at the Chief Café.
She was of the Protestant faith and enjoyed watching television.
On April 20, 1978 she was united in marriage to Raymond O’Dell in Reno, Nev.
He preceded her in death.
She was also preceded in death by four brothers, W. M. “Bud”, Lloyd, Ernest and Noah Daniels and three sisters, Mae Cowin, Faye Cletcher and Ruth Boyer.
Survivors include four children; Charles L. Herrington and wife Margaret of Van Buren, Charlene Stephens and husband, Pastor Dick, and Wanda Kay Martin and husband, Gerald all of Winona and Teddie Jo Boeh and husband Brian of Eldridge, Iowa; two brothers, Willis Daniels of Florida and Jack Daniels of Monrovia, Cal.; two sisters, Virginia Miller of Azusa, Cal. and Ruby Ross of Buckeye, Ariz.; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and many other nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends who mourn her passing.
Visitation: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 15, 2011 in the McSpadden Funeral Home in Van Buren, MO.
Funeral: 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 15, 2011 in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Dick Stephens officiating.

Aubrey Thomas
(March 7, 1919 - January 27, 2011)
Mr. Aubrey Thomas, 91, of Monett, passed away Thursday, January 27, 2011 at Dade County Nursing Home in Greenfield, MO.
He was born March 7, 1919 in Purdy, MO to Webster and Rita (Inman) Thomas.
He united in marriage to Nadine McCracken on July 4, 1939 in Purdy, MO.
She preceded him in death August 13, 1995.
Mr. Thomas served in the Army during WWII.
He was a member Macedonia Freewill Baptist Church of Purdy.
He retired from Brown Construction in K.C., MO and also as a painter in the Monett and Purdy area.
Aubrey is survived by one son: Frank Thomas of Greenfield, MO; one brother: Paul Thomas of Purdy; seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Aubrey was preceded in death by his parents and wife, along with one son Teddy Thomas in 1945, two brothers Dale Thomas and Layton Thomas and one sister Vera Terry.
Visitation will be held Monday, January 31, 2011 from 12:00 till 1:00 p.m. at Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home.
Graveside services will follow at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 31, 2011 at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery near Butterfield, MO with Rev Lee Neil officiating.
Memorial donations can be to Macedonia Freewill Baptist Church.
Arrangements are under the care of Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home in Monett.
Neva Danielle Howlett
(March 4, 1989 - April 9, 2011)
Neva Danielle Howlett, 22, of Jefferson City, passed away Saturday, April 9, 2011, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born March 4, 1989, in Columbia, Missouri, a daughter of Garry L. Howlett and Dana L. Boyce.
She was named after her great-great grandmother, Neva Armstrong and grandfather, Daniel Boyce.
Neva was a 2007 graduate of Jefferson City High School, where she was part of the JCHS Orchestra Program.
She enjoyed board games, texting, decorating cakes, watching reality TV and spending time with family and friends, especially her son Daniel.
Neva battled Metastatic Melanoma Cancer for the past three years.
She made many travels back and forth to Bethesda, Maryland, to receive experimental treatments at the National Institute of Health.
She ended treatment at Siteman’s Cancer Center in St. Louis, Missouri, and was tenderly taken care of by the special and caring staff of Ellis Fischel Cancer Center in Columbia, Missouri.
Due to her bravery and courage; the studies she participated in will likely save the lives of other victims to follow her.
Neva is survived in the home by her fiancé: Rodney Michael Pritchard, Jr. and son: Daniel Paul Pritchard, age 3.
She is also survived by her father: Garry L. Howlett (wife Nancy) of Jefferson City, MO; her mother: Dana L. Boyce (fiancé Timothy Field) of Fenton, MO; a brother: Brandon Howlett of Fenton, MO; maternal grandparents: Daniel and Claudia Boyce of Jefferson City, MO; paternal grandmother: Bonnie Satterfield of Rocky Mount, MO; great-grandmother: Fern Plunk of Quincy, IL; three uncles: Clinton Boyce of Chicago, IL; Larry Howlett of Rocky Mount, MO; Michael Howlett (wife Sheila) of Rocky Mount, MO; a step-sister: Rachelle Ocheskey of Jefferson City, MO; two step-brothers: Timothy Field and James Field of Fenton, MO; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by two paternal grandfathers: Marshall Satterfield and Lawrence Howlett; and a great-grandmother: Lottie Corley.
Friends will be received from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 16, 2011, at Houser-Millard Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will follow at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, with Deacon Al Brand officiating.
Following the service, everyone is invited to join the family for a “Cake Reception”, featuring a cake specially made by Buddy Valastro and Carlo’s Bakery of the TV Series “Cake Boss”.
Friends are also welcome to bring a cake of their choice to the cake reception, that will be held at Houser-Millard Funeral Home.
Neva will be cremated and laid to rest with her Mother upon her passing, so she is never alone.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Daniel Pritchard Educational Fund.

Beryl Blunt
Beryl Blunt, daughter of the late Homer Williams and Vern Canady Williams, was born on Jan. 23, 1930 at Dexter and died in the Crowley Ridge Care Center in Dexter on March 3, 2002, at the age of 72. Mrs. Blunt was a former payroll clerk with Elder Manufacturing in Dexter and a resident of Dexter. She was united in marriage to Lorane Blunt on June 11, 1948 at Dexter. Mr. Blunt survives of the home in Dexter. Besides her husband, she is survived by one son, Scott Blunt of Dexter; by one daughter, Sharon Kay Jones of Memphis, Tenn.; by one brother, Bob Williams of Swartz Creek, Mich.; by two sisters, Reva Lee Lintz of Bloomfield and Erma Catrett of Stockton, Ala.; by five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Beuett Williams and by one sister, Mary Ellen Barnes. Visitation was held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Monday, March 4 from 5 - 8 p.m. Funeral services were held today, March 5 at 2 p.m. in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with Rev. Kevin Eskew officiating. Interment followed in the Sadler Chapel Cemetery with Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
Lisa Lynn Ayers
Lisa Lynn Ayers, daughter of the late Marion Horner and Phyllis Shell Rehm, was born August 17, 1958 at Sikeston and died near Frisco, Mo., on August 27, 2003 at the age of 45. Lisa was a member of the Mt. Calvary Powerhouse Church of God in Poplar Bluff, a homemaker, and a resident of Dexter. She is survived by three daughters, including Lauren Thorne of St. Louis; by two brothers, Chuck Poepplemeyer of Bloomfield and Mike Rehm of Dexter; by two grandchildren. Visitation was held at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter on Saturday, August 30, 2003, followed by funeral services in the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ron Webb officiating. Interment followed in the Dexter Cemetery.
Kenneth Dale Melton
Kenneth Dale Melton, son of the late Cecil Burian and Mary R. Romines Melton was born in Senath on April 7, 1938, and passed away at the Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, La., on Aug. 29, 2003, at the age of 65. Mr. Melton was a former resident of Southeast Missouri and had lived in Cheneyville, La., for many years. He was a sugar cane farmer and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Parma. Mr. Melton is survived by one daughter, Kenna Jo Melton of Memphis, Tenn.; two sons, Kelly Melton of Memphis, Tenn., and Kevin Melton of Alexandria, La.; and two sisters, Mary Lynn Ford of Parma and Susan Kay Rackley of Gideon. Other relatives and many friends also survive. Visitation was held Tuesday, Sept. 2, from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Parma. Graveside services were held in the Senath Cemetery following visitation, with Rev. John Girdley officiating. Interment followed in the Senath Cemetery with Watkins and Sons Funeral Service of Parma in charge of all arrangements.
Calvin Stroup
Calvin Stroup, son of the late William A. Stroup and Cynthia Bell Daniels Stroup, was born near Puxico on March 16, 1925, and passed away at his home near Puxico, on Aug. 31., 2003, at the age of 78. Mr. Stroup had lived in the Kinder and Puxico areas all of his life. He was a retired farmer and was a member of the Apostolic Faith Tabernacle in Sturdivant. He was married to Rebecca Canoy on Oct. 6, 1944, in Parma. Surviving are his wife Rebecca Stroup of Puxico; three sons Bill Stroup of Dexter, Ray Stroup of Puxico, Lee Stroup of LaPlace, La.; two bothers, Bill and Eldon Stroup, both of Puxico; one sister, Pagie Thicke of Russiaville, Ind.; ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Other relatives and many friends also survive. In addition, Mr. Stroup was preceded in death by one son. Visitation will be held Tuesday, Sept.. 2, from 5-8 p.m. at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Puxico. Services will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 3, at 1 p.m. at the Watkins and Sons Funeral chapel in Puxico with Rev. Dale Holman, of Arab, and Rev. Ray Placher, of Puxico, officiating. Interment will follow in the Fagan Cemetery near Puxico with Watkins and Sons Funeral Service of Puxico in charge of all arrangements.
