Leland J. O’Dell
Leland J. O’Dell, 77, of Chillicothe, died at his home on Sunday, April 18, 2010.
He was born on Aug. 17, 1932, the son of James C. and Ada V. (Blackwell) O’Dell in Linn County, Mo. He was a 1950 graduate of Brookfield High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 until 1955. On Oct. 16, 1959, he married
Barbara Renshaw in Brookfield, Mo. She survives of the home.
Mr. O’Dell operated O’Dell Moving from 1957 until 1964. He worked for the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department from 1962 until 1977. In 1977, he was elected sheriff and served as the Livingston County sheriff until 1997. After retiring as sheriff, he worked for Lindley Funeral Home, in Chillicothe, Mo. He was a member of the Missouri Amphibious Navy, Missouri Sheriff’s Association where he served as the first vice president in 1996. He was also a member of Friendship Lodge No. 89 AF & AM, Chillicothe Shrine Club, Moila Temple in St. Joseph, Mo., Chillicothe Elks Lodge 656, Vern R. Glick Post No. 25 The American Legion, Livingston County Men’s Democratic Club and the National Sheriffs Association.
Mr. O’Dell is also survived by a son, Rick O’Dell and daughter-in-law Robyn, of Cincinnati, Ohio; two daughters, Lisa Kissick, and son-in-law Paul, of Kirksville, Mo., Lana Kilmer and son-in-law Billy, of Brookfield, Mo., a bother, Bob O’Dell, of Bucklin, Mo., 12 grandchildren: Peyton and Jensen O’Dell, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Ron Kissick, of Independence, Mo., Aron Gerhart, of Chillicothe, Mo., Amy Swartz, and grandson-in-law Daniel, of Liberty, Mo., Amber Marshall and grandson-in-law Jarrod, of Chillicothe, Mo., Jordan Kissick of Kirksville Mo., Lance Douglas of Chillicothe, Mo., Lindsey Douglas, of Brookfield, Mo., Lacey Lake and grandson-in-law, Tony, of Brookfield, Mo., Zachery Kilmer of North Carolina, and Benjamin Kilmer, of Murphy, N.C., 13 great-grandchildren: Montana Hall, of Chillicothe, Mo., Vyctoria Stoner of Brookfield, Mo., Anastasia Stone, Talan Lake and Abbigail Lake, all of Brookfield, Mo., Connor, Kyan and Matthew Hobbs, Alivia Gerhart, Jack and Jameson Marshall, all of Chillicothe, Mo., Emma Kissick, of Independence, Mo., Evie Swartz, of Liberty, Mo., and Kamlyn Gannan, of Brookfield, Mo.
Mr. O’Dell was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Loren O’Dell and a sister, Barbara June O’Dell.
Services will be at Lindley Funeral Home in Chillicothe at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21, 2010. There will be a Masonic service at the Lindley Funeral Home in Chillicothe, Mo., at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 20, 2010. with a family visitation to follow. Friends may call after 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Tuesday and from 8 a.m. until the service time on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Edgewood cemetery in Chillicothe, Mo.

Bessie Ophelia Mabery, 71, of Excelsior Springs, Mo., died Friday, May 7, 2010 at Excelsior Springs Medical Center.
Bessie was born June 26, 1938, the daughter of Alonzo C. Cooper and Fannie O. (Bowman) Cooper.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 13, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. with services on Friday, May 14, 2010 at 1 p.m. at Bross & Spidle Funeral Home, Excelsior Springs, Mo. Burial will be in Elmood cemetery, Excelsior Springs, Mo.

Chilicothe, Mo. — Don “Russell” St. John, 73, a resident of Chillicothe, Mo., died Friday, May 21, 2010.
Services will be held on Saturday, May 29, 2010 at 11 a.m. at Edgewood cemetery, Chillicothe, Mo. There will be no family visitation. Friends and family may call Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Mo., on Friday, May 28, 2010 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Sandra May (Zeller) Miller
Sandra May (Zeller) Miller, 63, of Drexel, Mo., formerly of Chillicothe, Mo., died Friday, April 16, 2010, at St. Joseph Medical Center, Kansas City, MO.
Sandra was born Feb. 5, 1947, in Harrisonville, Mo., the daughter of Arlow and Tressie Deshazer Zeller and Harry and Juanita Zimmerman.
She attended Wintner Harbor High School in Wintner Harbor, Ill.
In 1993, she married
Harold Lee Miller in Harrisonville, Mo. He preceded her in death on March 11, 2007.
For many years Mrs. Miller worked as a certified nurse aide at the Veteran’s Administration facility in Cameron, Mo., and at Livingston Manor in Chillicothe.
She was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Chillicothe.
Mrs. Miller enjoyed crocheting, flower gardening and playing bingo with her friends.
Sandra is survived by a son, William McCarty, of Pleasant Hill, Mo.; a grandson, Cameron Joseph Lee McCarty. of Pleasant Hill, Mo; Christie Lee McCarty; stepmother, Jaunita Zimmerman; two brothers, Joe Zeller and Billy Zimmerman; three sisters, Era Chapman, Mabel Hutchinson and Lula Priutt; three brothers-in-law; several nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Miller was preceded in death by her parents, Arlow and Tressie Zeller and Harry Zimmerman; husband, Harold Lee Miller; a sister Patty Wright and a nephew, Bobby Zeller.

Charles Franklin Powell, 81, died Nov. 15, 2009 at his home in Independence, Mo.
Erma Lee Utley
Erma Lee Utley, 72, a resident of Bethel, Ohio, originally of Wheeling, Mo., died Monday, April 12, 2010.
She leaves her husband, Roy Utley; six children, Susan Hoffer, Sandra Caudill, Sherri Hudson, Roy Edward II Utley, Paul Utley and James Utley; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lucille Siefert and the late Ruby Hamerick and Jane Graves; one late brother, James Melte.
Funeral services will be held at the Saltair Church of Christ, 2124 Street, Route 222, Bethel, Ohio 45106, on Thursday, April 15, 2010 at 12 p.m. Visitation will be held Thursday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Burial will be at the Felicity cemetery, Felicity, Ohio.

James Howard Baker
James Howard Baker, age 73, a resident of Chillicothe, Mo., passed away at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Mo., on Monday, April 26, 2010.
He was born in Boulder, Colo., on Dec. 15, 1936 the son of Howard and Clarice (Marsh) Baker. He moved to Columbia, Mo., in 1947 from Boulder, Colo. He graduated from high school from Hickman High School in Columbia, Mo. He then joined the United States Marine Corp. where he spent a brief time in Korea and served with the Expeditionary Force in Guatemala obtaining rank of Sergeant. After the military he attended and graduated from University of Missouri in Columbia, Mo., with a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism. On Nov. 30, 2002 he married
Debra Cosgrove. She survives of the home.
Jim was employed by GMAC in Kansas City, Mo., as an auditor before moving to Chillicothe, Mo., in 1962. He then became partners with the late Ted Barnes in Barnes Chevrolet soon to be Barnes - Baker Motors in Chillicothe, Mo. He soon built a GM Dealership in Trenton, Mo., in 1988. He purchased the Ford, Dodge, Chrysler & Jeep dealership combined with GM franchise in Trenton, Mo., in 2001. In 2006 he became a partner in a Ford, Lincoln & Mercury dealership in Creston, Iowa. In 2002 he became involved in real estate interests in Las Vegas, Nev.
He was a member of of the United Methodist Church in Chillicothe, Mo., where he served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Chairman of the Administrative Council, and other committees over the years. Jim was a member of the Rotary, American Legion, Chamber of Commerce, Elks, Chillicothe Development Corporation, and served as the Vice President of the Parks Board for many years. He was on the Board of Directors of the Missouri Auto Dealer Association and a member of the National Council of Oldsmobile and Chevrolet. Jim was a member of the Iowa Auto Dealers Association, Globe & Anchor Club - Marine Association, and the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
Jim was an avid golfer and enjoyed sports of all kinds. He loved to travel and spend time with his grandchildren.
Survivors also include one son, Andrew Baker of Birmingham, Ala.; three stepdaughters, Carrie Sampsel, Samantha Lauhoff, and Hannah Riggle, all of Chillicothe, Mo.; one sister, Susan Francis of Waltham, Mass.; seven grandchildren, Katie, Sarah, Matthew, Michael, Elizabeth Baker, Gavin and Chase Sampsel; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Judith Barnes Baker; one son, Ted Baker; and one sister, Pat Lane.
Services will be held at the United Methodist Church in Chillicothe, Mo., on Friday, April 30, 2010 at 10 a.m. There will be a family visitation held on Thursday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Edgewood cemetery, Chillicothe, Mo.

John R. “Bob” McNally
Mr. John R. “Bob” McNally, 83, a resident of Chillicothe, Mo., died Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Morningside Center, Chillicothe, Mo.
He was born March 13, 1927 in Chillicothe, Mo., the son of John Louis and Tennis Rosalie McIntyre McNally. On July 13, 1953 he married
Leta Irene Stilabower in Chillicothe, Mo.
Bob attended Woodland School near Chillicothe, Mo. He was a life long resident of Chillicothe, Mo., and he worked for Barnes-Baker Motors in Chillicothe, Mo., as a service advisor before retiring on March 28, 1989.
Bob was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the United States Army.
He was a member of Zion Baptist Church, in rural Chillicothe, Mo.
He is survived by his wife, Leta, of the home; two daughters, Beverly Hague and husband Jack, and Pamela Campbell and husband David, all of Chillicothe, Mo.; two sons, Richard Duncan and wife Karrol, and Alan Duncan and wife Barbara, all of Chillicothe, Mo.; two sisters, Peggy Bate and husband Russell, Chillicothe, Mo., and Shirley Seifert, Cameron, Mo.; three brothers, Joseph McNally, Freeman, Mo., James McNally and wife Sue, Kansas City, Mo., and William McNally and wife Sharon, Chillicothe, Mo.; 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Tessie Howe; and one brother, Louis McNally; and two infant sisters.
Graveside services will be held Friday, April 9, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at Anderson-Smith cemetery, Chillicothe, Mo., with Rev. Bob Kimmis officiating. Burial will be at Anderson-Smith cemetery, Chillicothe, Mo. There is no family visitation. Open visitation will begin Thursday morning, April 8, 2010 at the funeral home.

Timothy Joel Robertson, 72, of West Branch, died Monday, April 5, 2010 at University of Iowa Hospital.
Timothy Joel Robertson, son of Helen Oliver-Girdner and stepfather Flick Girdner, was born Oct. 4, 1937 in Denver, Co. He married
Joan Robertson on Aug. 18, 1959 in Chillicothe, Mo. Joan and Tim raised their four children in the Iowa City area.
Tim was a professor emeritus from the University of Iowa Statistics and Actuary Department and a member of the Fellow, American Statistical Association. He enjoyed spending time in the outdoors camping and canoeing. His greatest joy was spending time with his wife, family and animals on their family farm outside of West Branch.
Tim is survived by daughters, Kelly Robertson-Yoder and husband Scott, St. Charles, Ill., Jana Zimmerman and husband Scott, Fairhope, Ala.; sons, Doug Robertson and wife Lisa, Iowa City, Iowa, Michael Robertson, Asheville, N.C.; grandchildren, Molly Yoder, Hannah Yoder, Jack Zimmerman, Nick Zimmerman, Katie Zimmerman, Luke Robertson; and cousin Lori McCurry.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan and parents.

Colleen was active in the KC Northland Elks Lodge.
Colleen is survived by her long time companion, Dean Gromer, of the home; daughters, Becky Uptegrove and husband Fred, Linda Rinehart, Shelly Rinehart and Tammy (Kurt) Madsen; two sisters, Peggy Baugher and Cora Byrd; grandchildren, Lindsey, Christopher, Sarah, Logan, Mason, T.J. and Seth; and nine great-grandchildren
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Orval, Jr., sister Verleen Schneider and grandson Matthew.
