Shirley Nelson, 78, of Springfield, Mo., died Jan. 27, 2010, at Cox South Medical Center, Springfield.
Shirley was born March 16, 1931, to Alice Davis and Henry Simpson in Chillicothe.
She is survived by her husband, Ed Melton, who was her friend, companion and care giver. He helped Shirley pursue her dreams of publishing her book and will continue to monitor sales online through Amazon and Book Locker. Other survivors include her sister, Mary Lou Ritchie of Chillicothe; nieces, Terri Lynn Ritchie of Kansas City, Connie Landino of Colorado and Lisa Jones of Chillicothe; nephews, Aaron Ritchie of Chillicothe, Ronnie Simpson, Jr., of Kansas City and John Simpson of St. Joseph, Mo.; sister-in-law Thelma Buttman of Chillicothe; great nephews Heath, Jacob and Jared VanDusen, all of Chillicothe; great niece Heather VanDusen of Chillicothe; and a host of other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Ronnie Simpson; and a nephew, Randy Ritchie.
A service was held at Eastlawn Funeral Home, Springfield, on Monday, Feb. 1. Shirley was buried following the service at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Springfield. Memorial contributions may be made to Musicares.org, and may be sent to Music Cares, 1904 Wedgewood Ave., Nashville, TN 37212.

CAMERON, Mo. - Delores A. Griffith, 63, of Dawn, Mo., and former resident of Chillicothe, Mo., died at Morningside Center, Chillicothe, on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010.
She was born on Sep. 28, 1946 to Clyde and Beulah Knouse Cashatt. Delores graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1964. On Feb. 12, 1965, she married
Donald Griffith in Chillicothe. He preceded her in death in 1999.
She is survived by her daughter, Tammy Sykes and son-in-law David of Dawn; one granddaughter, Hannah Sykes of Dawn; two sisters, Betty Bevelle of Chillicothe and Carol Hamilton and brother-in-law Ronnie of Trenton, Mo.; two brothers, Robert Cashatt and wife Medea of Rancho Cordova, Calif., and Ronald Cashatt and wife Juanita of Brookfield, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Raymond Cashatt; and one brother-in-law, Gene Bevelle.
Graveside services will be held at the Utica cemetery, Utica, Mo., on Tuesday, Feb. 2 at 10 a.m. Friends may call from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 1 at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe. Joan K. Robertson
Joan K. Robertson, 70, of West Branch, Iowa, died Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010 at University of Iowa Hospital.
Joan was born July 16, 1939 in Chillicothe, Mo., the daughter of Charles and Kathryn Bonderer Slater. She married
Tim Robertson on Aug. 18, 1959 in Chillicothe, Mo. Joan and Tim raised their four children in the Iowa City area.
She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Tipton, Iowa. Joan was a Master Gardener and enjoyed spending time gardening and landscaping on their West Branch family farm. She also enjoyed spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Tim Robertson, West Branch, Iowa; daughters, Kelly Robertson-Yoder and husband Scott, St. Charles, Ill., Jana Zimmerman and husband Scott, Fairhope, Ala.; sons, Doug Robertson and wife Lisa, Iowa City, Iowa, Michael Robertson, Asheville, N.C.; grandchildren, Molly Yoder, Hannah Yoder, Jack Zimmerman, Nick Zimmerman, Katie Zimmerman, Luke Robertson; brother, Fred Slater and wife Amy and family, Miami, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial services for Joan K. Robertson will be held on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Tipton, Iowa, with Father David Hitch officiating. Family will receive friends prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with Rosary being said at 10 a.m. A luncheon for family and friends will be held at the church hall following the memorial service.
Memorials may be made to Lymphoma Research Fund or the Colon Cancer Research Fund through Holden Cancer Center at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in memory of Joan.

David S. Metcalfe, 73, of Cape Girardeau, Mo., formerly of Chillicothe, Mo., died Friday, Feb. 5, 2010 at his home.
He was born on Dec. 28, 1936 in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Donald C. and Mildred M. Metcalfe. In Sept. 1965 he married
Sharon R. Cunningham. They have two daughters, Lisa Murray, Phoenix, Ariz., and Elizabeth Raimondo, Kankakee, Ill.
David graduated valedictorian from Chillicothe High School, Chillicothe, Mo., in 1954. He graduated cum laude from the University of Missouri in Columbia, Mo., with a bachelor of science in chemistry and a master of science in medical microbiology at the Medical Center in Columbia, Mo. He received a National Institutes of Health grant for the study of rheumatic fever.
A memorial service was held Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Larry Ray Guilford
Larry Ray Guilford, 69, a resident of Hale, Mo., died Monday, Feb. 15, 2010 at his home.
He was born Sept. 23, 1940 in Hale, Mo., on the family farm, the son of Ray “Dick” and Mildred (Ogden) Guilford. On Dec. 15, 1962 he married
Charlene Jewell at the First Baptist Church in Chillicothe, Mo. She survives of the home.
He was a 1958 graduate of Hale High School, Hale, Mo.
Larry lived his entire life in Livingston County, Mo. He farmed and worked as a boilermaker for the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Local 83 in Kansas City, Mo., for almost 40 years. He retired from farming in 1993 and boilermaking in 2005. He enjoyed raising and showing cattle as well as playing cards. He was quite the storyteller who enjoyed telling jokes and making people laugh.
He is survived by three daughters, Kim Wray, Lee’s Summit, Mo., Stephanie Shockey and husband Dan, Chillicothe, Mo., Hollie Burnside and husband Cory, Hale, Mo.; one brother, Richard Guilford, Hale, Mo.; one sister, Carol Lineberry, Lee’s Summit, Mo.; five grandchildren and two step children, Christy Todd, Lee’s Summit, Mo., Tyler Todd, Springfield, Mo., Chelsea Prall, Springfield, Mo., Karter Burnside, Hale, Mo., Harris Burnside, Hale, Mo., Brent Shockey, Chillicothe, Mo., and Michelle Ray, Hale, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Glenda.
Services will be held on Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010 at Lindley Funeral Home, Hale, Mo., at 10 a.m. There will be a family visitation on Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindley Funeral Home, Hale, Mo. Friends may call on Wednesday from 12 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be held in Lakeside cemetery, Sumner, Mo.

Calvin “Kelly” Reeves
Calvin “Kelly” Reeves, 81, died Friday, Jan. 1, 2010 at his home in Ellensburg, Wash.
He was born Dec. 3, 1928 in Livingston County, Mo., son of Frances McWilliams Reeves and Ella (Swihart) Reeves.
Kelly served in the Air Force during the Korean War from 1950 until his honorable discharge on Jan. 10, 1956. He then worked 35 years as a carpenter. He spent most of his life in Chillicothe, Mo., until moving to Washington in 2008.
He is survived by one daughter, Linda Ireland, Ellensburg, Wash.; one son, Larry Reeves, Chillicothe, Mo.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Melva Jean (Peacher) Reeves; his second wife, Norma (Dowlin) Reeves; his granddaughter, Devon Jean Reeves; one brother, Rauleigh “Bud” Reeves; a sister, Ruby Wiklund and a step-sister, Nellie Wies.
There will be a private service for family and friends held at a later date.

Thomas J. Webb, 35, a resident of Utica, Mo., died Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010 at his home in Utica, Mo.
Helen Atwood
Helen Lois Atwood, 85, a resident of rural Meadville, Mo., died Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at the home of her sister, Louise Muck with her family at her side.
Helen was born March 11, 1925 in Meadville, Mo., the daughter of Greenfield, Jr. (Pete) Cooper and Ruth (Belshe) Cooper.
She graduated from Meadville High School in 1943. In June, 1943 she married
William (Dick) Johnson. He served in the U.S. Army and was killed in combat in New Guinea in 1944. They were the parents of one daughter, Sharon Ruth Johnson.
Later, Helen married
David Atwood. They were the parents of one daughter, Brenda Louise.
Helen was a member of the Christian Church, Clearmont, Mo.
Helen worked for many years at the Wells Fargo Bank, Redwood City, Calif., as a loan officer until her retirement. After retirement she and her husband, David, returned to Meadville, Mo. They were able to spend winters in Tucson, Ariz., until recent years. She enjoyed getting together with her sisters, her family, square dancing, flowers, crocheting, feeding birds, fishing and her dog.
She is survived by her husband, David, of the home; daughter, Brenda Atwood-Manchester, Plattsmouth, Neb.; three grandchildren, Tracey and husband Tony Premo, Brandon Manchester and wife Angie, and Danica Manchester; three great-grandsons, Anthony, Sky and Tavish; five sisters, Martha (DD) and Glen Johnson, Meadville, Mo., Louise and James Muck, Meadville, Mo., Evelyn Moner and George Mistler, Brookfield, Mo., Dixie Singleton, Moberly, Mo., Lucille Bowyer, Meadville, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband; daughter, Sharon Ruth; brother, Frankie; brothers-in-law, Keith Atwood, Raymond Bowyer, Michael (Nick) Moner, William (Bill) Singleton.
There was a cremation.
A celebration of Helen’s life by her immediate family will be held at a later date.
