Johnny R. McElwee
Johnny R. McElwee, 63, a resident of Holt, Mo., died Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at Liberty, Mo.
He was born July 30, 1946 in Braymer, Mo., to Raymond L. and Ruth (Stratton) McElwee. On May 22, 1975 he married
Janice Claxton in Miami, Okla. She survives of the home.
He worked for IDEAL as a truck driver for 32 years and retired in 1996 at the age of 50. He was a member of the Teamsters Local 41 for 32 years and the Star Club at the AmeriStar Casino in Kansas City.
He is survived by his wife; mother; one son, John Bradley McElwee, Lee’s Summit, Mo.; four brothers, Bill and Charles, Braymer, Mo., Bobby, Meadville, Mo., Terry, St. Charles, Mo.; two sisters, Helen Lawson and Nancy Caudle, both of Braymer, Mo.; three grandchildren, John Dillon McElwee, Dalton Bradley McElwee, and Devin Lawson McElwee; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Monday, June 7, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at Braymer United Methodist Church, Braymer, Mo. There will be a family visitation on Sunday, June 6, 2010 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Pitts Funeral Home, Braymer, Mo. Burial will be at Black Oak cemetery, Braymer, Mo. Friends may call the funeral home from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday or Sunday.

Howard Ray Almasy
Chillicothe, Mo. - Howard Ray Almasy, 79, of Lawrenceville, Ga., died Saturday (February 9, 2008) in Lawrenceville, Ga.
Howard was born Jan. 23, 1929 in East Peoria, Ill., the son of John and Clara Branz Almasy. He married
Marian Ann Tout on Sept. 4, 1955 in Galesburg, Ill. She preceded him in death Oct. 3, 1993.
Howard attended Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ. He was a past member of Herman Masonic Lodge #39, Quincy Consistory, Ansar Shrine Temple of Springfield, past board member of the Quincy Shrine Club, the Ansar Shrine Belgian Hitch and the Gwinnett County Chapter AARP. He enjoyed going to riverboat casino's and was an avid collector of antique watches and clocks. He was a member of the National Association of watch and clock collectors.
Mr. Almasy was employed at the Gardner Denver Company for over 26 years until his retirement in 1985.
Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Happel and husband Daniel, Lawrenceville, Ga.; a son, Jeff Almasy and wife Angie, Cheyenne, Wyo.; two grandchildren, Christopher and Elise Happel of Lawrenceville, Ga.; a brother, Henry Almasy and wife Mary, Peoria, Ill.
Mr. Almasy was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.
There was a cremation. Memorial graveside services will be held Saturday July 5, 2008 at 1 p.m. in the Mt. Olive cemetery near Chillicothe, Mo. There will be no visitation but friends are invited to the graveside services.

Vesta Mae Smith
Chillicothe, Mo. - Vesta Mae Smith, 92, a resident of Chillicothe, Mo., died Saturday, June 28, 2008 at Indian Hills Retirement Village, Chillicothe, Mo.
Vesta was born on Dec. 19, 1915 in Bedford, Mo., the daughter of James Franklin and Clara (Estes) Mitchell. On Aug. 8, 1937 she was married
to James Michael Smith in Gallatin, Mo. He preceded her in death on Aug. 18, 2003.
Vesta was a graduate of Chillicothe Business College.
Vesta was a homemaker. She had lived all of her life in Livingston County. She was a member of St. Columban’s Catholic Church, Chillicothe, Mo.
She is survived by one son, Terry Smith and wife Mary, Chillicothe, Mo.; two daughters, Diana “Kay Smith, Columbia, Mo., and Melissa Masles and husband Tom, Grass Valley, Calif.; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; three sisters, Reba Burnside, Rayma Scott and Ruth Osgood; four brothers, Eugene, Thurman, Forest and Wayne Mitchell.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Columban’s Catholic Church, Chillicothe, Mo., on Wednesday, July 2, 2008 at 10 a.m. A Parish Rosary will be held on Tuesday evening beginning at 6 p.m. with a family visitation to follow until 8 p.m. at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Mo. Friends may call on Tuesday, July 1, 2008 from 12 noon until 9 p.m. at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Mo. Burial will be in St. Columban’s Catholic cemetery, Chillicothe, Mo.

Rev. Gary Grant Bates
Chillicothe, Mo. - The Reverend Gary Grant Bates, 64, of Chanute, Kan., died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2009 at his home.
Gary was born Jan. 28, 1945 in Belleville, Kan., the son of Ottho Grant and Dellia Katherine (Welch) Bates. He married
Wanda Ball Hostetler. They later divorced. He later married
Ona Mae Bearl on March 6, 1993 in Chanute, Kan. She survives.
Before moving to Chanute, Kan., Gary served 18 years with the Salvation Army, visiting prison inmates, hospitals, and offering religious counseling. He became pastor of the First Church of God, in Chanute, Kan., in Nov. 1992. He remained pastor for 16 years, retiring in 2008.
Gary is survived by his wife; two sons, Gary Eugene Bates, and Wesley Leon Bates, both of Mexico, Mo.; three step-children, Janie Michelle Freeman, Sedgwick, Kan., Michael Owens, Easton, Kan., and Benjamin Owens, Wheaton, Kan.; three grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; two brothers, Homer Paul Bates, Mexico, Mo., and Rev. Steve Prickett, Providence, R.I.; and two sisters, Elaine Daly, Parsons, Kan., and Esther Hoffman, Carroll, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Lloyd Bates and Jimmy Bates.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 28, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church in Chanute, Kan., with the Rev. Tom Davolt officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel, Chanute, Kan.
Memorials in his name may be made to Gary Bates Memorial Fund or the Parkview Holiness Church and may be left at the funeral home.

Joanne Creason
Chillicothe, Mo. - Joanne Creason, 78, of Purdin, Mo., died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, at Morningside Center in Chillicothe, Mo.
Joanne Mae, daughter of Ira and Grace Warner Cox, was born March 8, 1931, in Mullen, Neb. On Aug. 5, 1951, she married
Ben Creason who preceded her in death on Aug. 23, 2006.
Mrs. Creason was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Shafter, Mo. and the True Blue Club.
Survivors include two sons, Kenny Creason and wife Rhonda, of Purdin and Tom Creason and wife Amy, of Browning, Mo.; two daughters, Carolyn Brookshire and husband Kenny, of Mooresville, Mo., and Janet Moore and husband Ronnie, of Braymer, Mo.; 12 grandchildren, Amanda Hollon, Nicholas Creason, Skyler Creason, Tristen Creason, Cameron Creason, Amelia Susan Creason, Chris Sparks, Michael Donoho, Kimberly Jo Peterson, Tony Saccaro, Katie Saccaro and Jared Moore; seven great-grandchildren, Carter and Benson Hollon, Zachary and Peityn Peterson, Brent Sparks and Colson and Kendrick Moore; two sisters, Jean Triplett of Linneus, Mo. and Esther Baker of Springfield, Mo.
One brother, John Cox, and one grandson, Jeff Moore, also preceded her in death.
A funeral service will be Sunday, Jan. 10, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at Wright-Baker-Hill Funeral Home, Brookfield, Mo., with Rev. Rex Leppin officiating. Burial will be in Purdin cemetery, Purdin. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday and the family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m.

Chillicothe, Mo. - Marjorie Moore, 81, of Maysville, Mo., died Saturday, June 28, 2008 at Cameron Regional Medical Center, Cameron, Mo.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Fairport cemetery, Fairport, Mo. Visitation will be held Monday, June 30, 2008 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Bram Funeral Home, Maysville, Mo.

Letha M. Johnson
Chillicothe, Mo. - Letha M. Johnson, 83, a resident of Chillicothe, Mo., died Saturday, June 28, 2008 at her home.
Letha was born May 16, 1925 in Chula, Mo., the daughter of Henry E. and Theo (Brown) Ishmael. On Sept. 14, 1947 she married
Arthur B. Johnson in Chillicothe, Mo. He preceded her in death Dec. 26, 1991.
Letha worked for Washington Steel, Washington, Iowa for over 10 years before moving back to Chillicothe in 1992. She worked for the Constitution-Tribune from 1994 until her retirement in 2004. Letha enjoyed making quilts, tending to her garden and flowers and keeping up on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, Donald E. Johnson, Chillicothe, Mo., and Arthur Ray Johnson and wife Chris, Conesville, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Pauline Tolle, Chillicothe, Mo.; one brother, Kenneth Ishmael, Chillicothe, Mo.; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Clarence (Jr.) Tolle; brother, Rex E. Ishmael.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 1, 2008 at 3:30 p.m. at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Mo. There is no scheduled family visitation. Chillicothe, Mo. - Keenan Anthony Lee Hershberger, 10, a resident of Chillicothe, Mo., died Saturday, June 28, 2008 at Children’s Mercy Hospital, Kansas City, Mo.
Keenan was born Jan. 6, 1998 in Chillicothe, Mo., the son of Christopher Shawn Hershberger and Jenny Lee Baker.
Keenan was a 4th grade student at Central School, Chillicothe, Mo.
Survivors include his father, Chris Hershberger, St. Joseph, Mo.; mother, Jenny Mull, Chillicothe, Mo.; three brothers, C.J. Hershberger, St. Joseph, Mo., Jamal Mull and Jordan Mull, Chillicothe, Mo.; paternal grandmother, Shirley Hershberger, Cameron, Mo.; maternal grandparents, Shannon and Connie Baker, Trenton, Mo.; maternal great-grandmother, Virginia Walker, Gallatin, Mo.; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by paternal grandfather, Kenneth Hershberger; paternal great-grandparents, Henry and Mary Hogan and Charles and Martha Hershberger; maternal great-grandparents, Gene and Rosalie Baker and maternal great-grandfather, Harold Walker.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 3, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Mo. There will be a scheduled family visitation on Wednesday, July 2, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindley Funeral Home, Chillicothe, Mo.
