Rebecca Reaves
CARTHAGE, Mo. — Rebecca H. Reaves, 91, formerly of 526 Fairview Ave., died at 8:09 a.m. Saturday, June 27, 1998, at McCune-Brooks Hospital, Carthage, after a long illness. She was living in a Carthage nursing home.
Mrs. Reaves was born Sept. 7, 1906, at Knights Station community, near Carthage. She was a lifetime Carthage resident. She was a 1926 graduate of Carthage High School and attended the former Joplin Business College. She was an accountant for Smith Brothers Manufacturing, B&G; Construction and the former Ramsey's Department Store, all in Carthage.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Carthage, where she had served as superintendent of the primary Sunday school department, was a volunteer for the Little Folks Day Care Center, was chairman of the prayer group, and was a member of the Naomi Sunday school class and the Second Milers.
She married
Roy Lee Reaves on June 16, 1928, in Carthage. He died Nov. 29, 1968.
A son also preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Betty Lee Lawson, Roswell, N.M.; two sisters, Lena Maxwell, Jasper, and Pansy Knight King, Carthage; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ulmer Funeral Home. The Rev. S. Ray Crews will officiate. Burial will be in Dudman Springs cemetery, east of Carthage.
Pallbearers will be Dee Jones, Tom Bradshaw, Gary Gillum, Earl Hensley Jr. and Bob Stafford.
Contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, Carthage, in care of the funeral home.
Shannon Salsman
CARTHAGE, Mo. — Shannon Lee Salsman, 31, Springfield, a former Carthage resident, died at 7:50 a.m. Friday, June 26, 1998, at his home after a long illness.
Mr. Salsman was born Sept. 30, 1966, at Carthage. He was foreman for Redneck Trailer Co., Springfield.
He was a member of Bellview Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Salsman; a son, Lee Edward Salsman, of the home; his parents, Terry and Mary Salsman, Springfield; four brothers, Brandon Salsman, Battlefield, Patrick Salsman, Springfield, Jay, Nunn, Neosho, and Danny Adams, Pleasant Hope; and two sisters, Christy Landis, Carlsbad, N.M., and Sherry Morris, Springfield.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Greenlawn Funeral Home North, Springfield. Burial will be in Diamond (Mo.) cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Waltz Bell
NEVADA, Mo. — Helen Flora "Waltz" Bell, 78, Nevada, died Saturday evening, Oct. 11, 1997, at a Nevada nursing home after a
long illness. Mrs. Bell was born March 26, 1919, in Vernon County and was a lifetime resident. She was active in area churches and care homes.
She married
James O. Bell on March 8, 1937. He died April 18, 1985.
Survivors include a foster son, Dennis Livingston, Neosho.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. Burial will be in Moore cemetery, Nevada.
Friends may call until the hour of service at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today.
Contributions may be made to the Vernon County Cancer Relief Fund in care of the funeral home.
Elmer Crossland
MONETT, Mo. — Elmer Crossland, 86, Monett, died at 8:12 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 1997, at a Monett nursing home after a long illness.
Mr. Crossland was born Nov. 30, 1910, at Mountain Grove and lived most of his life in Monett. He was retired from the Frisco Railroad. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Monett.
He married
Agnes "Boots" Knecht on May 27, 1931, at Verona. She died April 10, 1984.
Survivors include a son, Don Crossland, Monett; a daughter, Carol French, Bartlesville, Okla.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett, with Dale Graham officiating. Burial will be in Monett I.O.O.F. cemetery.
Miriam Jarrett
GREENFIELD, Mo. — Miriam Lucille Jarrett, 85, Greenfield, died Friday morning, Oct. 10, 1997, at her home after a long illness.
Mrs. Jarrett was born Feb. 10, 1912, in Dade County, and was a lifetime resident. She was a homemaker and taught school in the Pilgrim country school for a short time. She was a member of Antioch Christian Church, Greenfield.
She married
Lester D. Jarrett on Nov. 23, 1935, in Marshfield. He died Sept. 6, 1984.
Survivors include a son, Ralph Jarrett, Raytown; two daughters, Dolores Watson and Marilyn Myers, both of Greenfield; a brother, James Shelton, Bolivar; a step-sister, Mary Friar, Miller; a step-brother, Johnny Joens, Everton; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. today at Greenfield Funeral Chapel, Greenfield, with the Rev. Harold Mayes and the Rev. Gene Clack officiating. Burial will be in Antioch cemetery, Greenfield.
Alice Mustain
CARL JUNCTION, Mo. — Alice O. Mustain, 84, Carl Junction, died at 9:36 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, 1997, at the Missouri Rehabilitation Center, Mount Vernon, after a long illness.
Mrs. Mustain was born March 12, 1913, at Neosho. She was a lifetime Joplin area resident. She was a retired nurse.
Her husband, Jack L. Mustain, died in 1961.
Survivors include a daughter, Annette Willis, Carl Junction; a sister, Mary Kane, Joplin; and two grandchildren.
Arrangements are pending with Parker Mortuary, Joplin.
Dixie Pennington
REEDS, Mo. — Dixie Lee Pennington, 60, Reeds route 1, died at 1:39 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 12, 1997, at her home after a long illness.
Mrs. Pennington was born July 1, 1937, at Carthage. She was a lifetime area resident. She most recently worked for MOARK Productions, near Carthage. She had also worked at Juvenile Shoe Manufacturers, Carthage. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, Carthage.
Survivors include a son, Duane Pennington, Joplin; a daughter, Leanne Pennington, Reeds; her father, Lester Rush, Lamar; six brothers, Larry Rush and Bill Rush, Lamar, Don Rush, Joplin, Tom Rush, Carthage, and Jerry Rush and Terry Rush, Oceanside, Calif.; a sister, Betty Pierce, Carthage; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ulmer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Fasken cemetery, Carthage.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Contributions may be made to the Sheila Hudson chapter of the Church of the Nazarene in care of the funeral home.
Kathryn Tatum
ANDERSON, Mo. — Kathryn Grace Pickens Tatum, 70, Anderson, died at 5:38 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, 1997, at her home after an illness.
Mrs. Tatum was born Dec. 19, 1926, at Neosho. She graduated from Stephens College, Columbia, and attended the University of Kansas, Lawrence, Kan., where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. She had lived in Anderson since 1953, where she was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter DL; the Daughters of the American Revolution; Friends of the Crowder College Library board of directors; and First Baptist Church, Anderson. She served on several civic committees, including Mercy Children's Hospital Advisory Board. She initiated a support group for families of armed services members during the Gulf War. She worked in the Ladies' ready-to-wear department of the Tatum Mercantile Co. for many years.
She married
James B. Tatum on Dec. 20, 1947, at Joplin. He survives.
Additional survivors include two daughters, Susan Tatum, Dallas, Texas, and Kathy Davis, Springfield; two sons, James P. Tatum, Fort Belvoir, Va., and David P. Tatum, Evanston, Ill.; five grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ozark Funeral Home, Anderson, with the Rev. Bill Masters and Lisa Tatum officiating. Burial will be in Anderson cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jack Anderson, Paul Lewis, Joe Pogue, Paul Harber, Mark Danuser and Jamie Tatum.
Friends may call after noon today at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
