Helen Hardcastle-Loggains
Helen M. Hardcastle-Loggains, 81, Joplin, died at 1:45 p.m. Saturday, June 27, 1998, at a local nursing home after a long illness.
Mrs. Hardcastle-Loggains was born May 13, 1917, at Sherman, Texas. She had lived in the Joplin and Webb City areas since 1965. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ, 1819 E. 26th St. and 401 Forest Ave.
She married
Henry Hardcastle in August 1935, at Denison, Texas. He died in November 1974.
She married
Wilburn Loggains in October 1982, at Joplin. He died in May 1995.
Survivors include three sons, Bill Hardcastle and William Loggains, both of Webb City, and Ed Hardcastle, Joplin; three daughters, Wanda Putnam, Joplin, Joyce Vann, Carl Junction, and Glenda Felts, Riverton, Kan.; a brother, Othel Myers, Denison; three sisters, Mamie Ballou and Jo Burns, both of Denison, and Nadine King, Borden, Texas; 10 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mason-Woodard Mortuary. Don Deffenbaugh, minister, will officiate. Graveside services will follow at GAR cemetery, Miami, Okla.
Cora Owen
Cora L. Owen, 95, 2810 Jackson Ave., died at 1:15 p.m. Sunday, June 28, 1998, at a local nursing home after an illness of several weeks.
Mrs. Owen was born April 2, 1903, at Iuka, Ark. She moved to Joplin in 1941 from Carl Junction. She was a member of the Christian Church.
She married
Harrison Owen on Jan. 28, 1920, at Mountain Home, Ark. He died Aug. 12, 1959.
Two sons also preceded her in death.
Survivors include three daughters, Arlie Frizzell, Placerville, Calif., Lillian Diederick, and Lorene Spence, both of Joplin; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Carl Junction (Mo.) cemetery. The Rev. Bob Simon will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Vernon Lovell, J.R. Kenworthy, Jerry Spence, Adam Spence, Roger Blaukat and Rodney Blaukat.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary.
Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, in care of the mortuary.
Will Wimmer
Willard James "Will" Wimmer Sr., 56, Joplin, died at 1:53 a.m. Sunday, June 28, 1998, at St. John's Regional Medical Center after an apparent heart attack.
Mr. Wimmer was born Jan. 30, 1942, at Des Moines, Iowa. He was raised in the Des Moines and Indianola, Iowa, areas. He moved to Joplin six years ago from Climax Springs. He was working as a truck driver for Wehrle Trucking Co., Lindville, Iowa, for the past year. He also worked for Sitton Motor Lines and Burlington Motor Co., both of Joplin.
He married
Cheryl Wheeler on Aug. 12, 1976, at Indianola. She survives.
Additional survivors include five sons, Bill Wimmer, Des Moines, Charles Wimmer, Pleasantville, Iowa, Steven Wimmer, Hartford, Iowa, Brian Teems, Springfield, and Jason Wimmer, Manhattan, Kan.; a daughter, Brenda Teems, Ankeny, Iowa; two sisters, Darlene Neer, Rock Island, Ill., and Millie Annis, Altoona, Iowa; and eight grandchildren.
Services and burial will be held in Indianola under the direction of Overton Funeral Home.
Local arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
Elsie Cox
JANE, Mo. — Elsie Vivian Cox, 88, Jane route 1, died at 10:15 p.m. Saturday, June 27, 1998, at a nursing home in Anderson after an illness.
Mrs. Cox was born June 14, 1910, in Benton County, Ark. She moved to Jane in 1970 from Benton County. She was a homemaker.
Her husband, Scott S. Cox, died June 24, 1986.
Survivors include three sons, Billy Bertschy, Springdale, Ark., Jack Bertschy, Seattle, Wash., and Gene Cox, Jane; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Ozark Funeral Home, Pineville. The Rev. Hank Gorman will officiate. Burial will be in the Jane cemetery.
Friends may call after noon Tuesday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
Contributions may be made to the McDonald County Library, in care of the funeral home.
Margie Edmonds
NEVADA, Mo. — Margie A. Edmonds, 81, Nevada, died Sunday, June 28, 1998, at a nursing home in Nevada after a long illness.
Mrs. Edmonds was born Feb. 20, 1917, in Cedar County. She worked as a clerk at Kress's and the Clothing Mart, both in Nevada, for many years. She also farmed with her husband near Horton for 50 years. She was a member of Horton United Methodist Church.
She married
Roy Edmonds on Aug. 13, 1931, in Nevada. He died Dec. 13, 1985.
Survivors include a son, Chuck Edmonds, Nevada; a sister, Ethel Casey, Bartlesville, Okla.; a brother, Ronald Casey, Ramona, Okla.; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Ferry Funeral Home, Nevada. Burial will be in Balltown cemetery, Horton.
Friends may call until the service time at the funeral home.
Michael Hobbs
REEDS, Mo. — Michael C. Hobbs, 29, Reeds route 1, was killed at 9:20 p.m. Friday, June 26, 1998, after he was struck by a car about five miles east of Highway 71 on Interstate 44.
Mr. Hobbs was born April 19, 1969, at Fort Wayne, Ind. He graduated from Billings (Mo.) High School in 1987. He moved to Carthage, where he was employed at Car-Mar the past eight years.
Survivors include his father and stepmother, Herbert and Cheryl Hobbs, Sarcoxie; his mother and stepfather, Marlyn and Lynn Slavens, Diamond; seven brothers, his twin, Mitchell Hobbs, Wayne Hobbs and Shane Slavens, all of Neosho, Jim Hobbs, Sarcoxie, Pat Slavens, Diamond, Bob Slavens, Springfield, and Jeshary Sheldon, Reeds; two sisters, Jodie Argo, Crane, and Stephanie Sheldon, Reeds; maternal grandparents, Wayne and Fayanell Burris, Mesa, Ariz.; and paternal grandparents, Eva Hobbs, St. Helens, Ky., and H.C. and Norma Slavens, Diamond.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Sarcoxie cemetery. The Rev. Clifford Smith will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Knell Mortuary, Carthage.
George Kirkpatrick
CARTHAGE, Mo. — George F. Kirkpatrick, 73, 1422 W. Macon St., died at 3:15 a.m. Sunday, June 28, 1998, at his home after an illness.
Mr. Kirkpatrick was born Sept. 25, 1924, at Ava. He was a graduate of Ava High School. He had lived at Sparks, Nev., for 40 years. He moved to Ozark in May 1993 and to Carthage in May 1997. He was an operating engineer in the construction business before retiring. He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
He married
Pauline Porter on Dec. 18, 1953, at Carson City, Nev. She survives.
Additional survivors include two a daughters, Regina Bloxham, Carthage, and Candace Morrison, Las Vegas, Nev.; and five grandchildren.
Arrangements are pending with Knell Mortuary.
Bernease Orahood
LAMAR, Mo. — Lena Bernease Orahood, 81, 401 Poplar St., died at 6:53 p.m. Saturday, June 27, 1998, at Barton County Memorial Hospital, Lamar, after a short illness.
Mrs. Orahood was born Dec. 7, 1916, at the Milford community. She was a lifetime Barton County resident. She retired as a cashier of the Lamar Super Market. She was a member of the Baptist First Church and the Calla Rebekah Lodge No. 160, both of Lamar.
She married
Glenn Alden Jones in 1934. He died in December 1940.
She married
Gerald B. Cornwell on Aug. 14, 1946. He died Nov. 28, 1954.
She married
Elbert L. Orahood on Oct. 19, 1963, at Lamar. He survives.
Additional survivors include a son, Dwayne Jones, Lamar; a daughter, Janice Orahood, Lamar; a sister, Deliah Judkins, Blue Springs; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Lohmeyer-Konantz Funeral Home, Lamar. The Rev. Jackie Harris will officiate. Burial will be in Lake cemetery, Lamar.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, in care of the funeral home.
