Roscoe Oran Skaggs
DONIPHAN -- Roscoe Oran Skaggs, 72, of Doniphan died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
Mr. Skaggs was born Jan. 4, 1932 in Ripley County. Formerly of Bridgeton, he moved back to Ripley County in 1979. He was a Shriner and a member of the Masonic Lodge, and was past president of the K-Highway Fire Department. He was a retired foreman with Ford Motor Company.
On July 23, 1949, he married
Jessie Tucker in Doniphan. She survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Lou Ella Brady of Ovett, Miss.; six sisters, Pauline Steel of Doniphan, Ruby Hatfield of Doniphan, Glenna Woodring of Arnold, Lois Smith of Doniphan, Sue Turner of Ellsinore and Ann Roark of Doniphan; three brothers, Bob Skaggs of House Springs, Kit Skaggs of Poplar Bluff and Tom Skaggs of Doniphan; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Hubert Payne officiated. Burial will be in the Good Hope cemetery.
Marcella Greenwall
Marcella L. Greenwall, 56, of Poplar Bluff died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. She had been in declining health for the past two years.
Ms. Greenwall was born Dec. 8, 1947 in Poplar Bluff. She was of the Pentecostal faith and was employed as a clerk in the Dietetic Department of Cedargate Care Center in Poplar Bluff.
Survivors include her mother, Lorie Greenwall of Poplar Bluff; her grandmother, Virgie Brooks of Poplar Bluff; one brother, Garth Greenwall and wife, Mary, of House Springs; and two nieces, Sara Greenwall and Ashley Greenwall, both of House Springs.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral chapel with Rev. Nancy Campbell officiating. Burial will be at the Military Crossing cemetery in Butler County.
Sylvester Hays
CORNING, ARK. -- Sylvester Hays, 93, of Corning, Ark., died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004 at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould, Ark.
Mr. Hays was born June 11, 1911 in Datto, Ark. He was a member of the House of Prayer in Corning. He was retired from the Clay County Electric Cooperative Corporation in Corning and was the former owner of Hays Bait Shop in Corning. His enjoyed fishing.
On Dec. 3, 1932, he married
Leona Brewer Hays. She survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Roxann Hays of Corning, Ark.; a foster son, Wayne Thomas of Corning, Ark.; two brothers, Don Hays of Richmond, Ind., and Clarence Hays of Edwardsville, Ill.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Ermert Funeral Home in Corning, Ark. The funeral service will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jimmy McMasters officiating. Burial will be at the Corning cemetery.
Mary Shelton
MALDEN -- Mary Louise Shelton, 87, of Malden died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, at Beverly Health and Rehabilitation in Malden.
Mrs. Shelton was born Oct. 5, 1916, at Clarkton and was of the Baptist faith. She was a retired cook at Malden Schools and had also worked as a nursing home supervisor.
On Oct. 14, 1933, she married
Wesley George Shelton at Piggott, Ark. He preceded her in death Nov. 19, 1995.
Survivors include six daughters, Georgia Albright of Gulf Shores, Ala., Sue Beall of Malden, Jetty Heide of St. Paul, Minn., Sara Kalkbrenner of Bartlett, Tenn., Melba Lipps of Glendale, Ariz. and Verna Moel of Hollywood, Fla.; two sons, Bruce Shelton of Dexter and Wesley Shelton of Jackson, Miss.; 20 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Landess Funeral Chapel in Malden. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the funeral chapel. Burial will be in the Memorial Park cemetery in Malden.
Lou Elva Hudson
DONIPHAN -- Lou Elva Hudson, 95, of Doniphan died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, at St. Elizabeth Nursing Home in Jonesboro, Ark..
Mrs. Hudson was born Aug. 2, 1909, in Gatewood and had lived in Doniphan for most of her life. She was a member of the Doniphan Church of Christ and was a housewife.
On Feb. 9, 1927, she married
Walter C. Hudson in Tucker, Mo. He preceded her in death on Nov. 1, 1967.
Survivors include four daughters, Vella Carter of Doniphan, Lucille Ingrim of Rockford, Ill., Nelda Boyer and Melba Dorman, both of Jonesboro, Ark.; three sons, W.J. Hudson of Jonesboro, Ark., Melvin Hudson of Batesville, Ark., and Doyle Hudson of Jonesboro, Ark.; 22 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at noon Saturday at Edwards Funeral Home in Doniphan. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in the New Home cemetery.
Marty Maupin
Marty Maupin, 35, of Poplar Bluff died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004, in Butler County.
Mr. Maupin was born June 24, 1969 in Poplar Bluff and was a lifetime resident of Poplar Bluff. He was a 1986 graduate of Poplar Bluff High School and was of the Baptist faith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and worked at Rowe Furniture as an upholsterer.
On April 7, 1988, he married
Karen Loretta Baker in Poplar Bluff. She survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Kourtney Maupin of Poplar Bluff; a son, Kody Maupin of Poplar Bluff; a sister, Misty Wallace of Poplar Bluff; a brother, Mike Maupin of Poplar Bluff; mother, Ruth Sheehy of Poplar Bluff; father, Dick Maupin of Poplar Bluff and grandmothers, Jewell Kindrick of Poplar Bluff and Gladys Maupin of Hamilton, Montana.
Visitation will be today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Fitch-Hillis Funeral Home in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Charlie Harper officiating. Burial will be in Walton Chapel cemetery.

George O. Henson
George O. Henson, 68, of Poplar Bluff died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, at his residence.
Mr. Henson was born Dec. 11, 1935 in Senath. Formerly of Flint, Michigan, he lived in Poplar Bluff for 20 years. He was a member of the Oglesville General Baptist Church and retired from General Motors in Flint, Mich. He enjoyed wood carving, lapidary and ceramics.
On March 13, 1954, he married
Betty Jackson. She survives.
Other survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, George Jr. and Deborah Henson of Scott City, Dewayne and Katherine Henson of Poplar Bluff and Norman and Michelle Henson of Poplar Bluff; two brothers, D.J. Henson of Flint, Mich. and Virgil Henson of Flint, Mich.; stepmother, Freda Henson of Flint, Mich.; and 13 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Randy L. Henson and William T. Henson, Sr., and one grandson, Joseph Emmons.
Visitation will be today at 6 p.m. at White-Sanders Funeral Home in Qulin. The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home chapel with Rev. Roger Morris officiating. Burial will be in Qulin cemetery.
Wanda Bass
CORNING -- Wanda Bass, 76, of Peach Orchard, Ark., died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004, at her residence.
Mrs. Bass was born Nov. 6, 1927, in Peach Orchard and was a member of the Peach Orchard Pentecostal Church. She was the retired owner and operator of a grocery store and enjoyed gardening, flowers and spending time with her grandchildren.
On Nov. 22, 1948, she married
Glen Bass. He preceded her in death Sept. 28, 1972.
Survivors include one daughter, Tonyia Hatfield of North Little Rock, Ark.; one son, Tony Bass of Peach Orchard; one sister, Zelda Starr of Belleville, Ill.; two brothers, Lloyd Coffell of Peach Orchard and Richard Coffell of Troy; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ermert Funeral Home and from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Peach Orchard Pentecostal Church. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. Saturday in the church with the Rev. Dennis Williams and Brad Higgins will officiating. Burial will be in the Brownie cemetery in Peach Orchard.
Memorials may be made to the Peach Orchard Pentecostal Church.
Joshua Cowin
VAN BUREN -- Joshua Dwain Cowin, 23, of Fair Grove died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2004, at St. Louis.
Mr. Cowin was born July 28, 1981, in Springfield and was a lifetime resident of Fair Grove. He enjoyed fish gigging and all sports.
Survivors include his parents, Pete and Alma Cowin of Fair Grove; one sister, Jennifer Cowin of Fair Grove; one brother, Jason Cowin of Chatham, Ill.; two nieces and many other relatives.
Visitation will be at 6 p.m. Saturday at McSpadden Funeral Home in Van Buren. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the House's Creek cemetery near Van Buren with the Rev. Dick Murray officiating.
Buddy LeGrand
Buddy Ray LeGrand, 69, of Poplar Bluff died Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2004, at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. He had been in declining health for the past several years.
Mr. LeGrand was born Feb. 22, 1935, in Poplar Bluff. He was of the Methodist faith and a retired factory worker.
Survivors include three daughters, Diane Kinsella of Walls, Miss., Sarah LeGrand of Piedmont and Valerie LeGrand of Sikeston; one son, Bryan LeGrand of Denver; one sister, Theila Hill of Robinsonville, Miss.; five grandchildren and a special friend, Susie LeGrand of Blytheville, Ark.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
Cotrell Funeral Service of Poplar Bluff is in charge of arrangements.
