Charles Carter
ELLSINORE -- Charles A. Carter, 59, of Ellsinore died Tuesday, May 11, 2004, at Doniphan.
Mr. Carter was born Dec. 17, 1944, in Ellsinore and was a lifetime resident there. He was of the Baptist faith and was a self-employed farmer. He enjoyed raising cattle, hunting and fishing.
On Jan. 1, 1996, he married
Linda A. Ham in Ellsinore. She survives.
Other survivors include one daughter, Shaquila House of Dexter; two sons, Shayne Carter of Ellsinore and Travis Carter of Grandin; three sisters, Gladys Stocks of Poplar Bluff, Goldie Carter of Ellsinore and Mae Magnall of High Ridge; three brothers, Nathan Carter of Walton Chapel, John Carter and Elbert Carter, both of Ellsinore; 10 grandchildren and many other relatives.
Visitation will be at 7 p.m. today at McSpadden Funeral Home in Ellsinore. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the funeral chapel with the Rev. James Huffman officiating. Burial will be in the White's Mill cemetery.
Seth Knight Morrow
Seth Adam Knight Morrow, infant son of Stephanie Knight of Poplar Bluff was stillborn Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
In addition to his mother, survivors include one sister, Morgan; one brother, Trevor, and his maternal grandmother, Brenda Pyle of Poplar Bluff.
A graveside service was held Monday at the Poplar Bluff City cemetery with the Rev. Ron Taylor officiating.
Cotrell Funeral Service of Poplar Bluff was in charge of arrangements.
Delane Davis
QULIN -- Delane Davis, 64, of Poplar Bluff died Saturday, April 24, 2004, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Davis was born Dec. 26, 1939, at Qulin, where he lived most of his life. He had lived in Poplar Bluff for 14 years. He retired from the Missouri Department of Transportation in August 1990 after 30 years of service for which he was recognized for his initiative and ingenuity. He enjoyed hunting, collecting guns, knives and spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include one son, Vernon Delane Davis and wife, Carolyn, of Fredericktown; two sisters, JoAnn Bruce of Qulin and Sue Heaton of Wappapello; his mother, Virginia Davis of Poplar Bluff; two grandchildren, Amanda Nichole Davis of State College, Pa., and Tyler Delane Davis of Poplar Bluff and their mother, Shiela Davis of Poplar Bluff; two nieces; two nephews and two great-nieces.
Visitation will be at noon Tuesday at White-Sanders Funeral Home in Qulin. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral chapel with the Rev. Jim Sanders officiating. Burial will be in the Qulin cemetery.
Robert Poe
Robert D. Poe, 58, of Poplar Bluff died Saturday, March 27, 2004, at Three Rivers Healthcare North in Poplar Bluff.
Mr. Poe was born May 4, 1945, at Gideon and was a maintenance worker.
One brother, Richard Poe of Kennett, survives.
A graveside service was held today at the Woodlawn cemetery in Poplar Bluff.
Cotrell Funeral Service of Poplar Bluff was in charge of arrangements.
Nelda Hughes
BERNIE -- Nelda Hughes, 65, of Bernie died Saturday, April 3, 2004, at Missouri Southern Healthcare E.R. in Dexter.
Mrs. Hughes was born Jan. 20, 1939, at Puxico. She was a member of the Northside Baptist Church at Bernie and a bus driver for the Bernie Public School District.
On March 19, 1960, she married
Jackie Lee Hughes at Pontiac, Mich. He preceded her in death Oct. 8, 2003. Survivors include two sons, Allen Lee Hughes of Bloomfield and Robert Edgar Hughes of Flint, Mich.; two brothers, David Sudbury of Holly, Mich. and Larry Sudbury of Providence, Ky.; her parents, J. M. "Wimpy" and Anna Glenn Allen of Bernie and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral chapel with the Revs. O. H. Brooks and Tim Ingalls officiating. Burial will be in the Bernie cemetery.
Evelyn Nance
ELLSINORE -- Evelyn Marie Nance, 56, of Waterloo, Ill., died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at her residence.
Mrs. Nance was born Dec. 13, 1947, in Poplar Bluff and was a former resident of Ellsinore. She had lived in Waterloo for the past 18 years. She was a member of the Nazarene Church of Columbia, Ill., and department manager and sales clerk at Wal-Mart in Waterloo. She enjoyed reading, fishing, crocheting and attending her church.
On May 18, 1979, she married
Claude Nance at St. Louis. He survives.
Other survivors include her mother, Cathren Friend of Ellsinore; two sons, Jerry Leach of Van Buren and Jason Nance of St. Louis; one sister, Debra Lavender of Waterloo; two brothers, Howard Hall of Qulin and Donald Hall of Franklin, N. C.; five grandchildren and many other relatives.
Visitation will be at 6 p.m. today at McSpadden Funeral Home in Ellsinore. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral chapel with the Rev. Willie Joe Price officiating. Burial will be in the Grandin City cemetery.

Martin Kern
GIDEON -- Martin Dale Kern, 58, of Gideon died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at Twin Rivers Regional Medical Center in Kennett.
Mr. Kern was born Dec. 5, 1945, in St. Louis.
On Feb. 14, 1970, he married
Wilma Ellen Akridge at Peach Orchard. She survives.
Other survivors include four daughters, Susan Yeargain of Smock, Pa., Melissa Kelly of Keller, Margaret Martin and Lorrie Norton, both of Gideon; one sister, Willidean Jackson of Thompsonville, Ill.; one brother, David Kern of St. Louis and 10 grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 6 p.m. today at the Bradshaw Funeral Home in Gideon. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral chapel with the Rev. Jack Allen officiating. Burial will be in the Stanfield cemetery in Clarkton.
Mary Palmer
BERNIE -- Mary Reeda Palmer, 82, of Bernie died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
Mrs. Palmer was born Aug. 20, 1921, at Bernie and had lived there for more than 20 years. Along with her husband, she owned and operated a service station and garage in Bernie. They had also managed motels in the St. Louis area before retiring.
On April 1, 1939, she married
Hershel William Palmer at Piggott, Ark. He preceded her in death May 26, 1993.
Survivors include one daughter, Patricia Elaine Brown of Bernie; two sisters, Beulah Summers of Dexter and Dorothy Kincaid of California; one brother, J. W. Murphy of Poplar Bluff; one grandchild; one great-grandchild and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. today at the Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Bernie. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. in the funeral chapel with the Rev. James Todd officiating. Burial will be in the Bernie cemetery.
Phyllis Spradling
Phyllis Jean Spradling, 53, of Poplar Bluff died Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at her residence.
Mrs. Spradling was born Oct. 1, 1950, in Qulin. She returned to school at age 40 and graduated from nursing school in 1966, as a registered nurse, while working full-time. She worked at Three Rivers Healthcare South for 23 years. She enjoyed fishing, reading, crocheting and cooking.
On Oct. 5, 1984, she married
Dewain Spradling in Poplar Bluff. He survives.
Other survivors include her mother, Wilma (Bazzell) Morgan of Poplar Bluff; one daughter, Christa French of Memphis, Tenn.; two sons, J. C. Cothren and Justin Spradling, both of Poplar Bluff; one sister, Carla Fisher of Fairdealing; two brothers, Michael Morgan and Marvin Morgan, both of Poplar Bluff; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in the funeral chapel with the Rev. Jim Gilbreath officiating and the Rev. Vernon Kneir assisting. Burial will be in the Kearbey Chapel cemetery.
Emma Morse
Emma Morse, 94, of Poplar Bluff died Sunday, April 4, 2004, at Three Rivers Healthcare North in Poplar Bluff.
Mrs. Morse was born June 16, 1909, in Poplar Bluff. She was a Charter member of the Temple Baptist Church and a homemaker.
On Oct. 30, 1929, she married
Clardy Ray Morse at Poplar Bluff. He preceded her in death in 1989.
Survivors include one son, Donald L. Morse of Independence; two sisters, Veda Ruth Bristow of Poplar Bluff and Verle Hackenyos of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; one brother, Lanson Phillips of Doniphan; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel with the Rev. Steve Patterson officiating. Burial will be in the Poplar Bluff City cemetery.
