Helen V. Roberts
DONIPHAN - Helen Virginia Roberts, 77, of Poplar Bluff died at 3:15 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at the Three Rivers Health Care Center - North Campus.
Mrs. Roberts had worked as an LPN in hospitals and nursing homes. She was a member of the Walnut Grove Baptist church in Fisk.
She was born Dec. 11, 1923, in Bolivar, Tenn., and formerly lived in Ripley County.
She married
Jay Whitaker in 1945. In 1973 she married
Homer Roberts, who died in 2000.
Surviving are two daughters, Peggy Farris of Milan and Dorothy Young of Doniphan; one son, Paul Whitaker of DeSoto; three stepchildren; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren.
The funeral service will be at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ed Dunivan officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove cemetery
Visitation will begin at 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
Juanita Shaw
MALDEN - Juanita Shaw, 81, of Salinas, Calif., died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at the Dalinas Valley Memorial Hospital in Salinas.
Mrs. Shaw was born Dec. 7, 1919, in Charleston.
On Dec. 21, 1936, she married
Edgar Shaw in New Madrid. He preceded her in death July 10, 1996.
Survivors include four sons, Randy Shaw of Salinas, Edgar Wayne Shaw of Plano, Texas, Fred Shaw of Wappapello and Gary Shaw of Freeport, Fla.; one daughter, Doris Shaw of Sulphur Springs, Texas; two sisters, Vidi Wicker of Bertrand and Mary Baugh of Charleston; and one brother, Doug Reynolds of Missouri.
Visitation will be at 2 p.m. today at the Bradshaw Funeral Chapel in Malden. The funeral service will be at 3 p.m. today at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in the Rosewood cemetery in Malden.
Hazel McSwain
CAPE GIRARDEAU - Hazel Marie McSwain, 87, of Bourbonnais, Ill., died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at the Provena Our Lady of Victory Nursing Home in Bourbonnais.
Mrs. Swain was born Aug. 20, 1913, in Cape Girardeau. She was affiliated with the First United Methodist Church in Poplar Bluff and had been employed as a licensed practical nurse with Lucy Lee Hospital and John J. Pershing VA Medical Center.
On Feb. 15, 1935, she married
Winston Alfred McSwain in Cape Girardeau. He preceded her in death in 1983.
Survivors include one son, William A. McSwain of Rocky River, Ohio; two daughters, Nichola S. Frey of St. Anne, Ill. and Becky M. Gurley of Troy, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Dennis Price officiating. Burial will be in the Cape County Memorial Park cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Provena Our Lady of Victory Nursing Home, 20 Briarcliff Lane, Bourbonnais, Ill. 60914.
May Chilton
PIEDMONT -- May L. Chilton, 91, of Pilot Knob died Saturday, March 30, 2002, at Potosi Manor in Potosi.
Mrs. Chilton was born April 22, 1910, in Des Arc. She was affiliated with the Protestant faith and was a homemaker.
She was married
to Courtney Chilton for 60 years. He preceded her in death in 1982.
The funeral service was held at 2:30 p.m. today at the Ruegg Funeral Home in Piedmont with the Rev. Charles Gillenwater officiating. Burial was in the Mountain View cemetery in Des Arc.
Nellie Boyer
PUXICO -- Nellie Boyer of Wappapello died Monday, Oct. 1, 2002, at Three Rivers Healthcare-North Campus in Poplar Bluff.

VAN BUREN -- James Leroy Brown of Fremont died at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

Ellen King
Ellen Laura King, 91, a lifelong resident of Poplar Bluff, died Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at Three Rivers Healthcare-North Campus in Poplar Bluff.
Mrs. King, the daughter of the late Lawrence D. and Nettie Melissa (Webb) VanDover, was born July 21, 1911, in Poplar Bluff. She retired after 35 years of service with the Woolworth's Department Store in Poplar Bluff. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, a past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, having received a 50-year pin, a Worthy High Priestess of the White Shrine, and a member of the Eastern Star Birthday Club. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.
On June 1, 1930, she married
Richard King in Corning, Ark. He preceded her in death Feb. 25, 1982. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Charlotte Ann Sims, on Feb. 4, 2000; and two sisters, Myrtle Lee Jeffries Moore in 1998 and Virginia Grace Severs in 1990.
Survivors include seven children, Richard Thomas King and James King, both of Poplar Bluff, George King of Rolla, Byron King of Poplar Bluff, Robert Douglas King of St. Louis, and Ronald King and John King, both of Poplar Bluff; 21 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and one sister, Audra Louise Cox of Poplar Bluff.
Visitation will begin at 7 tonight at Cotrell Funeral Chapel in Poplar Bluff. The funeral service will begin at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Calvin Buhler officiating. Burial will be in Poplar Bluff City cemetery.

Thelma Norman
ELLSINORE - Thelma Edith Norman, 94, of Ellsinore died Monday, April 16, 2001, in Poplar Bluff.
Mrs. Norman was born Dec. 15, 1906, in Ellsinore, where she had resided for the past several years. She resided in Collinsville, Ill., for 44 years, was affiliated with the General Baptist faith and was a homemaker.
On Dec. 17, 1921, she married
Clyde Ottis Norman in Ellsinore. He preceded her in death July 18, 1977.
Survivors include one son, Alvin "Bud" Norman of Ellsinore; one daughter, Norma Hampton of Apache Junction, Ariz.; three half brothers, Audrey Raymer of West Helena, Ark., Emmett "Dick" Raymer of Humansville and Willis "Dodge" Raymer of St. Louis; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren
Visitation will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the McSpadden Funeral Home Chapel in Ellsinore. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in the White Mill cemetery in Ellsinore.
Levell Hinton
Levell Jewell Hinton, 87, of Poplar Bluff died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at Three Rivers Healthcare-North Campus.

Billy McKinney
Billy Jack McKinney, 65, of Little Rock, Ark., formerly of Poplar Bluff, died Monday, June 3, 2002, at the University of Arkansas Hospital of Medical Sciences in Little Rock.
Mr. McKinney, the son of Jack and Blanche (Howard) Brickell and Fred McKinney, was born Aug. 1, 1936, in Poplar Bluff. A graduate of Poplar Bluff High School Class of 1956, he was employed with the Transportation Department at the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences. He was affiliated with the Baptist church and a veteran of the United States Air Force. He also enjoyed working on old cars and square dancing.
Survivors include his mother, Blanche Brickell of Poplar Bluff; one son, Chuck Clark and wife Donna of Puxico; three grandchildren, Holly Clark, Jeremy Clark and Kayla Clark, all of Puxico; one brother, Freddie McKinney of Little Rock; and his fiancee, Doris Healey of Jacksonville, Ark.
He was preceded in death by his father, Fred McKinney, and his stepfather, Jack Brickell, who raised him.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Cotrell Funeral Chapel. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home chapel with Dr. William Vail officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Gardens cemetery with full military honors.
Roman Selig
CORNING, Ark. -- Roman J. Selig Jr., 87, of Corning, died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock, Ark.
Mr. Selig was born May 31, 1915, in Stuttgart, Ark. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Corning. He was a U. S. Navy veteran and a retired timber foreman with J. W. Black's Lumber Company.
On May 31, 1938, he married
Augustine "Teenie" Selig. She preceded him in death May 17, 1997.
Survivors include six sons, Philip A. Selig of Vestavia Hills, Ala., John P. Selig and Stephen L. Selig, both of Little Rock, Roman J. Selig III of Hoover, Ala., Michael D. Selig of North Little Rock, and Paul T. Selig of Hot Springs, Ark.; 19 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
A Rosary service will begin at 7 p.m. with visitation to follow until 9 p.m. today at Ermert Funeral Home in Corning. The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Corning with the Rev. John Marconi officiating. Burial will be in Corning cemetery.
