NORA L. BOWMAN

Nora Louise Schuster Bowman, 95, Independence, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, at the Independence Health Care Center.

Mrs. Bowman was born April 27, 1902, in Marthasville, Mo., and had lived in the Independence area most of her life. She was a homemaker and had been an operator for the telephone company for several years.She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Independence, Social Order of the Beauceant, and the Telephone Pioneers. She had been an election judge for several years. Her husband, Dennis Bowman, died in 1978.

Her survivors include one daughter, Betty L. Bowman, and two sisters, Erma Schuster and Viola Schuster Biggs, all of Independence; and one nephew.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery. Friends may call from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Friday at the chapel.

JOHN C. "BUD" CATIR

John C. "Bud" Catir, 76, Buckner, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Catir was born Dec. 14, 1921, in Bath, Maine, and lived in Indian Harbour Beach, Fla., and Metamora, Mich., before moving to Buckner in June 1997. He was an equipment operator for American Aggregates in Romeo, Mich., and a member of the Lake Orion (Mich.) RLDS Church.

His survivors include his wife, Marilyn Catir, Buckner;one son, Ronald Catir, Hazel Park, Mich.; three daughters, Laurie Pryor, Metamora, Myrna Nellis, Buckner, and Kathy Huta, Northville, Mich.; and six grandchildren, Adam Pryor, John Nellis, Chelsea Nellis, Felicia Pryor, Torianna Catir and Donald Catir.

Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Thursday at the Israel`s Gathering of The Church of Jesus Christ, Buckner; cremation. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Brown Funeral Home, Buckner.

KENNETH L. CLEVENGER

Kenneth Lyle Clevenger, 78, Kansas City, formerly of Independence, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Clevenger was born Nov. 28, 1919, in Harwood, Mo., and had lived in this area since 1949. He was retired from the Fireman`s Fund Insurance Co. and IPC International. He had also been a captain in the Kansas City Police Department Reserves. He was a member of the Ascension Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sharon Joyce.

His survivors include his wife of 56 years, Ruby Clevenger; one daughter, Janice Manning; one brother, Melvin Clevenger; three sisters, Maxine Berry, Dorothy Trower and Geneva Ray; two granddaughters, Diana Scarcello and Laura Jennings; and two great-grandsons, Nicolas Scarcello and Vincent Scarcello.

Services will be 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Graveside services will be 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Green Mound cemetery, Harwood. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the church.

WILLIAM B. HARRIS

William Burks Harris, 58, Blue Springs, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at Aligator Point, Fla.

Mr. Harris was born Jan. 25, 1939, in Kansas City. He had been a security person for the Federal Reserve Bank in Kansas City for the past 15 years. He was a Navy veteran and a Methodist.

His survivors include his wife, Cindy Harris, two daughters, Kristen Harris and Kelly Harris, and a stepson, Timothy Harvey, all of the home; two stepdaughters, Tammy Cook, Kansas City, and Christina Cook, Blue Springs; his mother, Georgene Harris, Warsaw, Mo.; one brother, Robert Harris, Independence; and seven sisters, Judy Swinney and Dixie Barrick, both of Warsaw, Patricia Cook and Janice Sandefur, both of Edwards, Mo., Debbie Smyth and Barbara Murray, both of Independence, and Carolyn Swan, Blue Eye, Mo.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Blue Springs Chapel; cremation. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the chapel.

DAVID A. HURSHMAN

David A. Hurshman, 86, Independence, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Hurshman was born in Prescot, Ark., and lived in Independence, Alaska and Excelsior Springs, Mo., before returning to Independence. He was a clerk for the U.S. Postal Service for 20 years, retiring in 1976. He was an elder in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and was previously pastor of the Excelsior Springs congregation. He was attending the Farview congregation. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, and a member of the Carpenters Union.

His survivors include his wife, Marjorie L. Hurshman of thehome; four sons, Chester Hurshman, Independence, Kenneth Hurshman, Orrick, Mo., Donald Hurshman, Excelsior Springs, and Roger McGuire; two daughters, Juanita Baker, Excelsior Springs, and Lola Negaard, Palmdale, Calif.; 23 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel.

ESTHERA. MOORE

Esther A. Moore, 84, Richmond, Mo., died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, atShirkey Leisure Acres Nursing Home, Richmond.

Mrs. Moore was born Sept. 7, 1913, in Brunswick, Mo., and lived in this area most of her life, moving to Richmond three years ago. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Independence.

Her survivors include one son, Donald L. Adkins, and two daughters, Susan Burton and Doris Gibson, all of Independence; one brother, Walter Greenwood, Kansas City; 20 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be noon Saturday at Memorial Park cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at Park Lawn Funeral Home, Kansas City.

LLOYD D. PATE

Lloyd D. Pate, 66, Edwards, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Pate was born Feb. 12, 1931, in Independence, and lived in Independence, Sugar Creek and Odessa before moving to Edwards in 1992. He was a munition truck driver for the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant. He was a member of the Walnut Park RLDS Church, Independence, and Masonic Lodge 76, Odessa. He was a 1948 graduate of William Chrisman High School.

His survivors include his wife, Virginia B. Grayer Pate of the home; two sons, Lloyd Brent Pate, Odessa, and Burl W. Pate, Lexington, Mo.; two daughters, Shawna L. Pate, Sugar Creek, and Sheila Ann Pate, Oak Grove; two sisters, Evelyn Bauman, Odessa, and his twin, Lois Ann Reynolds; and four grandchildren, Dina Marie, Ryan Brent, Kyle James and Ashlynn Rachelle Pate.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, Odessa. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Friends may call from7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the American Lung Association.

OTIS M. PITTS

Otis Martin Pitts, 87, Independence, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mr. Pitts was born Dec. 7, 1910, in Peculiar, Mo., and had lived in Independence most of his life. He was retired from Ralston Purina, and a member of the Faith Full Gospel Tabernacle. His wife, Ula Mae Pitts, died in 1997.

His survivors include one daughter, Gail Chronister, Independence; three sons, Walter Winfree, Billings, Mo., Fay J. Winfree, Springfield, Mo., and Ray E. Winfree, Excelsior Springs, Mo.; one sister, Fern Wood, Eldon, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in East Slope cemetery, Riverside, Mo. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the family to help defray funeral expenses.

ANTHONY J. TAMAYO

Anthony Joseph Tamayo, 49, Kansas City, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, at Kansas University Medical Center.

Mr. Tamayo was born May 5, 1948, in Kansas City, and was a lifelong area resident. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 28 years, retiring in 1994. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, and a member of the Redemptorist Catholic Church in Kansas city.

His survivors include his wife, Isabel Tamayo, and one daughter, Lisa Tamayo, both of the home; two brothers, Amado Tamayo Jr., Kansas City, and Michael Tamayo, Kansas City, Kan.; four sisters, Elizabeth Tamayo, Roxanne Cogan and Loretta Reyes, all of Kansas City, and Patricia Griego, Tijeras, N.M.; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 9:30 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel.

CONNOR A. PARTON

Connor Austin Parton, infant son of Shawn Parton and Shelley Spencer-Partonof Independence, died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, at Research Medical Center.

His survivors also include one brother, Luke Shawn Parton; maternal grandparents, Jill and Geoffrey Spencer, Independence; and his paternal grandparents, Jane and Wayne Parton, Limon, Colo.

Memorial services will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Walnut Gardens RLDS Church, 19201 R.D. Mize Road. Arrangements are underthe direction of the Speaks Midtown Chapel.

ARTHUR J. STOVALL

Arthur J. Stovall, 85, Kansas City, died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, at Glennon Place Nursing Home, Kansas City.

Mr. Stovall was born April 28, 1912, in Cape, Mo. He was a businessman in the Kansas City area for several years, owning several different businesses. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Etha Stovall, in 1991.

His survivors include one stepson, Michael Panik, Independence; three granddaughters, Debbie, Donna and Patty; 15 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were today at the O`Malley cemetery, Beulah, Mo. Arrangements were under the direction of New Salem Funeral Home.
