HELEN MIDDLETON
Helen Middleton, 89, Independence, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 1997, at her home.
Mrs. Middleton was born March 16, 1908, in Kansas City, Kan., and had lived in Independence for 60 years. She was a homemaker. She was a charter member of Waldo Avenue Baptist Church.
Her survivors include her husband, Ralph T. Middleton of the home; a son, Larry Middleton, Colorado Springs, Colo.; a daughter, Virginia Cox, Independence; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 tonight at the chapel.
ALICE NORTHCRAFT
Alice Northcraft, 78, Kansas City, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Northcraft was born March 17, 1919, in Sedalia, Mo., and had lived most of her life in the Independence area. She was a nurse. She was also a charter member of the Beverly Hills Baptist Church, Independence. Her husband, Lewis Northcraft, preceded her in death in 1992.
Her survivors include two sons, Michael Northcraft, Lee`s Summit, and Kevin Northcraft, Tulare, Calif., a brother, Nicholas Koegler, Brookside, S.D.; two sisters, Velma Anderson, Puyallup, Wash., and Helen Long, Sedalia; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Cremation, with memorial service at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Beverly Hills Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of George C. Carson & Sons.
STANLEY M. LARSON
Stanley Merle Larson, 80, Blue Springs, died Friday, Sept. 26, 1997, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.
Mr. Larson was born Feb. 24, 1917, in Erwin, S.D., and had lived in this area for 39 years. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of the Stanley Pack Post of the American Legion. He was a member of the Blue Springs Restoration Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He retired as a security officer for Standard Oil Co., Sugar Creek Refinery. He was an avid Chiefs fan.
His survivors include his wife, Dorothy Larson of the home; a daughter, Nancy Larson Popowski, Curlew, Wash.; four stepchildren, Robert Chambers, Miami, Fla., Reed Chambers, Independence, Joni Crane-Woods, Juno Beach, Fla., and Carol Rachel Jacobs, McKinney, Texas; three sisters, Jean Christensen, Rapid City, S.D., Ruby Miller, Auburn, Ind., and Elleen Kadiec, Council Bluffs, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the church, 5555 Valley View Road, Blue Springs. Private interment services will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Stanley Larson Memorial Fund.
LINDSAY L. WARD
Lindsay Lee Ward, 44, Ocean Springs, Miss., died Monday, Sept. 22, 1997, in Biloxi, Miss.
Mr. Ward had been a resident of Jackson County for five years. He was vice president of the Home Builder Association of Southeast MS. He was a residential building contractor. He was president of Specialty Homes. He retired from the U.S. Navy after serving 22 years as a search and rescue swimmer and a gas turbine engineer. He was a member of St. Mary`s Catholic Church in Gautier, Miss.
His survivors include his wife, Paulette Charbonnet Ward, Ocean Springs; a daughter, Brandie Lynn Sallee, a son, Raymond Lee Ward, his father, George T. Ward, his mother, Jewell Frans Ward, and stepmother, Jeanette C. Ward, two stepbrothers, Robert Qualkenbush and Gary Qualkenbush, and a stepsister, Cindy Fowler, all of Blue Springs.
Services were Thursday at St. Mary`s Catholic Church, Gautier.
BERTA "BETTY" WEIR
Berta "Betty" Henning Weir, 68, Independence, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 1997, at Research Medical Center, Kansas City.
Mrs. Weir was born June 13, 1929, in Heyerode, Germany, and she had lived in this area for 27 years. She became a United States citizen in 1975. She was employed by Cy Rudnick`s Crown Center Fabrics.She was an accomplished dressmaker and designer. She was also a homemaker. She was a member of the Jackson County Rose Society. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was active in the Ridgewood Congregation as wedding coordinator and led a group of young ladies in "Mrs. Betty`s Sewing Circle." She taught the group knitting, hemstitching, crocheting and other needlework art.
Her survivors include her husband, John Weir of the home; a brother, Ralf Henning, Germany; a niece and nephew, Sandy and Mike Sortore, Independence; and a great-niece and nephew, Sonia and John Sortore.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Speaks Midtown Chapel, Independence. Burial will be in Leavenworth National cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.
LENA G. WILLIAMS
Lena G. Sperry Williams, 88, Oak Grove, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 1997, at Monterey Park Nursing Center, where she had lived.
Mrs. Williams was born in Carroll County, Mo., and had lived in Kansas City for 30 years before moving to Oak Grove in 1971. She had lived in Monterey Park for the past six weeks. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oak Grove. She was preceded in death by her husband, T. Raymond Williams in 1990.
Her survivors include a son, V. Malcolm Williams, Independence; two brothers, Ivan Sperry, Marengo, Iowa, and Paul Sperry, Lisbon, Iowa; two grandchildren, Mark Williams, Odessa, and Janet Woodward, Independence; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Welsh cemetery, Dawn, Mo. Friends may call from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Kansas City Hospice.
HAZEL E. BRADSHAW
Hazel E. Bradshaw, 87, Independence, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Bradshaw was born Sept. 14, 1910, in Rolla, Kan., and had lived in Independence most of her life. She worked for the Nelly Don Garment Co. from 1934 to 1958, and was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. Bradshaw in 1977.
Her survivors include a brother, Joel B. Barmore, Independence; and two sisters, Beryl Vaughan, Sedalia, Mo., and Esther "Tess" Hunsburger Morgan, Independence.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the chapel.
MILDRED L. DAILY
Mildred Lorene Daily, 76, Independence, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Daily was born June 13, 1921, in DeLancey, N.Y., and had lived in Independence for 49 years. She worked for Velvet Freeze in Independence for many years. She was an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church, where she participated in the Mission Belles, Craft and Game days, Live Wires and the WMU. Her husband, Bernard Edwin Daily, died July 3, 1993.
Her survivors include two daughters, Susan Weeks, Independence, and Judy Bookout, Blue Springs; three brothers, Raymond Baird, Florida, Glen Baird, California, and Ronald Baird, Springfield, Mo.; two sisters, Roberta Hesterberg, Norborne, Mo., and Margaret Finck, Sierra Vista, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Calvary Baptist Church Youth Ministry.
ROSE G. LOVELAND
Rose G. Loveland, 92, Raytown, formerly of Independence, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 1997, at Park Place Care Center.
Mrs. Loveland was born Jan. 2, 1905, in Bolivar, Mo., and had lived in Independence most of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Loar Loveland in 1953, and a son, James Milton Loveland in 1997.
Her survivors include three grandchildren, Russell H. Loveland and David J. Loveland, both of Kansas City, and Janis E. Kilgore, Independence; and one great-grandson, Samuel W. Wright, Independence.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Forest Hill cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel.
CLYDE M. MARSHALL
Clyde Milton Marshall, 79, Independence, died Sunday, Sept. 14, 1997, at his home.
Mr. Marshall was born in 1918 in Greenridge, Mo. He retired from FordMotor Co. after 29 years of service. He was an Army Air Force veteran of WorldWar II, serving in the Philippines. He attended Westport High School in Kansas City, and graduated from Central Missouri State University, Warrensburg, in 1941, and was a member of the Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity. He was active in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the Independence Neighborhood Council. He and his wife served as host parents to many students, including student nurses at the Independence Sanitarium and Hospital School of Nursing, and foreign students in the People to People and American Field Services programs. His and his wife`s most recent project was saving the 1880 Duke house from demolition by moving it from Truman Road to West White Oak. He was a volunteer at the RLDS Temple Museum and the Laurel Club.
His survivors include his wife of 49 years, Ila Hoskins Marshall of the home; his children, Diane Marshall and Steven Marshall, both of Independence, Debra Gagnon, Rota, Spain, Scott Marshall, West Bloomfield, Mich., and George Smith, North Kansas City; and his grandchildren, Anna Garriock, Brendan McKittrick, Mariah Marshall, Jason Marshall, Leinani Marshall, Matthew Gagnon and Emma Witbolsfeugen; and her half sisters, Anastasia, Francesca, Katrientje and Teminka Witbolsfeugen.
His bodywas donated to Kansas University Medical Center research. Memorial services will be 4 p.m. Sunday at the College Park RLDS Church, 1021 W. College St. The family suggests contributions to the elevator fund at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Speaks Midtown Chapel.
DANIEL J. McGRATH
Daniel Joseph McGrath, 87, Independence, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 1997, at the Medical Center of Independence.
Mr. McGrath was born June 9, 1910, in Kansas City, and was a lifelong area resident. He was a maintenance electrician at theKansas City Terminal Railway for many years, and previously worked for Kansas City Power and Light and Sheffield Steel. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Rooth.
His survivors include two daughters, Patricia Schwensen, Independence, and Joe McGrath, Lawrence, Kan.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a niece.
