BERARD C. BRESSON
Berard C. Bresson, 89, Blue Springs, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.
Mr. Bresson was born June 14, 1908, in Kilbuck, Ohio, and had lived in Arizona for 24 years. He moved to Blue Springs 14 years ago. He graduated from Notre Dame in 1932, and was a member of the Catholic faith. He was very active in Scouting, and was a coach in several different sports.He was a teacher, coach and athletic director for the Western Military Academy in Alton, Ill., for several years, and also taught and coached in public schools. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael, in 1960.
His survivors include his wife, Traci Bresson of the home; two daughters, Virginia Konko, Blue Springs, and Paula Arnold, Alton; one son, Alan Bresson, Mesa, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John LaLande Catholic Church, 704 Range St., Blue Springs; cremation. Friends may call from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to your favorite charity. Arrangements are under the direction of the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.
JAMES I. CASE
James I. Case, 55, Cameron, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at St. Luke`s Hospital, Kansas City.
Mr. Case was born Feb. 14, 1942, in Kansas City, and lived in Independence until moving to Cameron in 1967. He was an inspector for Trans World Airlines in Kansas City for the past 37 years, and was a route carrier for The Kansas City Star for 12 years. He graduated from North Kansas City High School, and was a member of the Restoration Branch in Independence and I.A.M. Union Local 1650 in Kansas City.
His survivors include his wife, Kay Morrison Case of the home; three daughters, Cheryl Shephard, St. Joseph, Mo., Debi Ayers, Parkville, Mo., and Saundra Neal, Independence; his father and stepmother, Warren and Nadine Case, Gladstone, Mo.;his mother and stepfather, Betty and Donald Clemens, Independence; one brother, Ronald Clemens, Independence; one sister, Nancy Pate, Liberty, Mo.; and six grandchildren.
Services were Thursday at the Poland-Thompson Funeral Home, Cameron. Burial was in Mound Grove cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the Cameron Community Hospital.
ETHEL L. WATLING
Ethel L. Watling, 87, Independence, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998, at the Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Watling was born Dec. 12, 1910, in Collins, Mo., and had lived in Independence since 1928. She was a volunteer for the Red Cross in association with Independence Regional, and was also a volunteer at the Truman Library. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
Her survivors include her husband of 70 years, Wilbert A. Watling of the home; one son, Gary A. Watling, Blue Springs; one daughter, Sue Kathrun Jameson, Melbourne, Fla.; one sister, Georgie Crawford, Raytown; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel.
RICHARD S. WHITE
Richard Sterling White, 69, Independence, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998, at the Independence Manor Care Center.
Mr. White was born Dec. 3, 1928, near Columbus, Mo., and had lived in this area most of his life. He was a steel worker for GST Steelfor 44 years, retiring in 1994. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, and was an endowment member of the National Rifle Association.
His survivors include his wife of 47 years, Marilyn White of the home; one son, Matthew Sterling White, Independence; his brothers and sisters, Sarah Edwards and Cameron White, both of Kansas City, Lilas Gibson and Carol Ray, both of Independence, and James White, Pleasant Hill, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Patterson cemetery, Springfield, Mo. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Keith Worthington Chapter of the ALS Association or the Columbia Home Hospice.
BYRNA M. ZERR
Byrna Marie Zerr, 84, Independence, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998, in Independence.
Mrs. Zerr was born Nov. 30, 1913, in Kansas City, and had lived in Grain Valley before moving to Independence. She earned an associate`s degree from Graceland College, Lamoni, Iowa, and attended Kansas City Business College, became a stenotypist and was later employed by KMBC radio station. Throughout her life she was active in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. From 1958 to 1964, she served as a member of the General Council Women for the RLDS Church. She was a news reporter for the Saints` Herald of Central Church, Kansas City. She authored numerous articles for the Saints` Herald and other church publications. She was a member of the first Golden Acres Ladies Sewing Circle Club, the Santa Fe Parliamentary Club and Mothers of Israel, Inc. She was a member of the Atherton Restoration Branch. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Myron Zerr, and a son, Edward Arthur Zerr.
Her survivors include a son, Charles Harvey Zerr, and a sister, Eleanor D. Sandy, both of Independence; a brother, Harold D. Sandy, Shawnee Mission, Kan.; and three grandchildren, Jonathan Sheehy Zerr, Amy Rebecca Zerr and Ethan Charles Zerr.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Speaks Midtown Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the chapel. GERTRUDE E. CULLEN
Gertrude E. Cullen, 79, Independence, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 1997, at the Medical Center of Independence.
Mrs. Cullen was born July 3, 1918, in Independence and had lived most of her life in Independence. She was a presser for many years with Johnson Cleaners and A&M; Cleaners, both of Independence. She was a member of the Enoch Hill RLDS Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas G. Cullen in 1982.
Her survivors include a son, Michael T. Cullen, Independence; two daughters, Louise E. Kendall, Kalispell, Mont., and Jeannette Coffman, Grain Valley; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.
EDWIN C. GRAMLICH
Edwin Clarence Gramlich, 66, Kansas City, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 1997, at his home.
Mr. Gramlich was born March 4, 1931, in Peoria, Ill. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the church choir and the Young at Heart. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the American Legion. He was a member of Good Sams Club and American Association of Retired Persons. His survivors include his wife, Doris Gramlich of the home; a daughter, Carol Ackerson, Kansas City; three brothers, Russell Gramlich, Raytown, Gerald Gramlich, Independence, and Donald Gramlich, Blue Springs; his mother-in-law, Esther Mehner of the home; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Edgar and Hallie Reynolds; sister-in-law, Barbara Mehner; and two grandchildren, Kip and Drew Ackerson.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Peace Lutheran Church, 8240 Blue Ridge Boulevard. Burial will be in Brooking cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The family suggests contributions to the Peace Lutheran Church, Kendallwood Hospice or Cancer Action.
THOMAS F. HOUSE
Thomas F. House, 75, Kansas City, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 1997, at North Kansas City Hospital.
Mr. House was born Dec. 27, 1921, in Buckner. He was a new car salesman for many years at area dealerships. He was a member of the Oakland United Methodist Church.
His survivors include his wife, Lora House of the home; a brother, James House, Grain Valley; and a sister, Wilma Mueller, Grain Valley.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel.
MURLIN R. "ROGER" ROGERS
Murlin R. "Roger" Rogers, 58, Blue Springs, died Thursday, Oct. 1, 1997, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.
Mr.Rogers was born Nov. 5, 1938, in Smith County, Kan. He worked in the truck maintenance department of Consolidated Freightways. He was a member of Teamsters` Local 552.
His survivors include his wife, Johanna Rogers, Blue Springs; two daughters, Jennifer Stevens and Theresa Van Ommeren, both of Blue Springs; four brothers, Jim Rogers, Smith Center, Kan., Charles Rogers, Hays, Kan., Jeff Rogers, Elkhorn, Neb., and Jerry Rogers, White City, Kan.; and two grandchildren, Shayna and Jacob Stevens.
Cremation with private memorial services. Arrangements are under the direction of D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Blue Springs Chapel.
PAULINE BOTTS
Pauline Botts, 80, Independence, died Monday, Sept. 29, 1997, at Truman Medical Center-East.
Mrs. Botts was born Jan. 22, 1917, in Independence. She had worked until retirement as an egg candler for the Colby Industry.
Her survivors include her husband, Harry Botts; and two stepdaughters, Susie M. Botts and Cheryl Killiebrew.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Palestine Baptist Church, Independence. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
MILDRED I. LAND
Mildred I. Land, 97, Kansas City, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 1997, at Truman Medical Center-East.
Mrs. Land was born May 26, 1900, in Iola, Kan. She was a member of the Spring Valley Baptist Church and Truman Medical Center East Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Joel A. Land.
Her survivors include two sons, Donald E. "Gene" Land, Kansas City, and Lester N. Land, Parker, Kan.; three daughters, Eva Lee Lundberg, Kansas City, and Louise Taylor and Dorothy Turner, both of Independence; 16 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday atD.W. Newcomer`s Sons Floral Hills Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel.
STANLEY M. LARSON
Stanley Merle Larson, 80, Blue Springs, died Friday, Sept. 26, 1997, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.
Mr. Larson was born Feb. 24, 1917, in Erwin, S.D. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of the Stanley Pack Post of the American Legion and a member of the American Legion. He was a member of the Blue Springs Restoration Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He retired as a security officer for Standard Oil Co., Sugar Creek Refinery. He had lived in this area for 39 years and was an avid Chiefs fan.
His survivors include his wife, Dorothy Larson of the home; a daughter, Nancy Larson Popowski, Curlew, Wash.; four stepchildren, Robert Chambers, Miami, Fla., Reed Chambers, Independence, Joni Crane-Woods, Juno Beach, Fla., and Carol Rachel Jacobs, McKinney, Texas; three sisters, Jean Christensen, Rapid City, S.D., Ruby Miller, Auburn, Ind., and Elleen Kadiec, Council Bluffs, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be 2:30p.m. Sunday at the church, 5555 Valley View Road, Blue Springs. Private interment services will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Contributions may be made to the Stanley Larson Memorial Fund.
