RUTHANNA BEEMAN
Ruthanna Kellerstrass Beeman, 91, Raytown, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 1998, at her home.
Mrs. Beeman was born June 5, 1906, in Kansas City. She was part owner of the Town and Country Supply Stores in Ottawa, Kan., and St. Joseph, Mo., before she retired. She taught Sunday school and was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Independence. Her husband, Jesse A. Beeman, died in 1948.
Her survivors include a son, Charles "Bud" Beeman, Overland Park, Kan.; a daughter, Oneida Beeman Lorimer of the home; three grandchildren, David Beeman, Melissa Spratt and Rebecca Hourigan; and nine great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the visitation immediately following. Burial will be private. The family suggests contributions to the Ruthanna Beeman Memorial Fund at the church.
VIRGINIA N. BOONE
Virginia Nadene Boone, 80, Independence, died Friday, Feb. 6, 1998, at Trinity Lutheran Hospital.
Mrs. Boone was born June 16, 1917, in Kansas City. She was past president of T.O.P.S. and an active member of Bales Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. She was also a member of the Evergreens Club and the Friendship Flower Club at the church.
Her survivors include her husband, Elmer Boone of the home; and a niece, Eleanor Mullins, Denver.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Moriah cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Second Mile Ministry or the church.
KATHERINE J. CAIRNS
Katherine J. Cairns, 74, Independence, died Friday, Feb. 6, 1998, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Cairns was born March 29, 1923, in Kansas City, Kan., and had lived in Independence since 1937. She was vice president of Cairns Flowers for 34 years, retiring in 1986. She was active in the Missouri State Florist Association and the Society of American Florists. She and her husband were florists to President and Mrs. Harry S. Truman, for which they were very proud. She had a lifelong interest in animal welfare and was a member of the Missouri Humane Society, as well as many other national humane organizations. She was a member of St. Mary`s Catholic Church and the St. Mary`s Guild for many years, but was currently a member of St. Mark`s Catholic Church.
Her survivors include her husband of 51 years, Thomas D. Cairns of the home; three nephews, Dr. James Gracheck, Leawood, Kan., Dr. Stephen Gracheck, Ann Arbor, Mich., and William Gracheck, Albuquerque, N.M.; and three cousins.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary`s Church. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 9 tonight at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel, where the rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m.
LEO E. ERTLE
Leo E. Ertle, 80, Independence, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 1998, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.
Mr. Ertle was born March 4, 1917, in Leeds, Mo. He worked for Folgers Coffee Co. for 42 years before he retired. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and a 62-year member of Raytown Masonic Lodge 391. His wife, Mary Nadine Parsons, died in 1981.
His survivors include two sons, David L. Ertle and Thomas L. Ertle; a daughter, Norma Jeanne Jobe; a brother, Lloyd R. Ertle; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Brooking cemetery, Raytown. The family suggests contributions to the Keith Worthington ALS Association, 8340 Mission Road, Shawnee, Mission, Kan. 66206. Arrangements are under the direction of Charter Funerals, Kansas City.
MARY L. LAURITZEN
Mary Louise Lauritzen, 80, Independence, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998, at Baptist Medical Center.
Mrs. Lauritzen was born Feb. 6, 1917, in Lebanon, Mo., and lived in Kansas City before moving to Independence 31 years ago. She was a member of Sycamore Hills Baptist Church, a 50-year member of Blue Springs Rebekah Lodge, of which she was treasurer for 15 years, and was past Noble Grand and past president of the Rebekah Assembly of Missouri. She was preceded in death by her husband, Terry E. Lauritzen in 1983.
Her survivors include a son, Frederick James Lauritzen, Kansas City, Kan.; a daughter, Barbara Lee Sharp, Lee`s Summit; two sisters, Willeta Smith, Overland Park, Kan., and Pauline Jones, Raytown; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Rebekah Lodge services will be held prior to the 11 a.m. Tuesday funeral service at D.W. Newcomers Sons Noland Road Chapel. Burial will be in Green Lawn cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel.
STEVEN R. "RICK" MANNING
Steven Richard "Rick" Manning, 45, Odessa, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 1998, in Odessa.
Mr. Manning was born Sept. 30, 1952, in Odessa, and was a lifelong Odessa resident. He had been owner/manager of Manning Appliance Service and Sales in Odessa since 1991, and had worked for AT&T; in Lee`s Summit from 1977 to 1987. He was a 1972 graduate of Odessa High School, four year letterman wrestling, and a racecar driver, street car class, at I-70 Speedway from 1977-1981. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
His survivors include his wife, Julie Lynne Coskey Manning of the home; a son, Michael Wayne Manning, Odessa; two daughters, Wendy Jo Manning, Nashville, Tenn., and April Lynne Manning of the home; three brothers, Harold A. Manning, Kansas City, Clifton L. "C.L." Manning, Lee`s Summit, and Ron Manning, Odessa.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Ralph O.Jones Chapel, Odessa. Burial will be in Greenton cemetery, Odessa. Friends maycall from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the Odessa Ambulance Service.
EULA M. MOORE
Eula Marie Moore, 77, Grain Valley, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 1998, at St. Joseph Health Center. Mrs. Moore was born March 20, 1920, in Lamar, Mo., and had lived in Grain Valley for the past 40 years. She was a custodian for the Grain Valley Civic Center, and a member of the Grain Valley First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard N. Moore in 1971, and a grandson, Billy Gregg.
Her survivors include two sons, Denzil "Scotty" Moore, Golden City, Mo., and Leonard Moore Jr., Holden, Mo.; six daughters, Esther Perry, Independence, Katheleen Pycior, Raytown, Shirley Schriever, Bates City, Carol Powers, Odessa, Dorothy Drummond, Lone Jack, and Nancy Bushey, Grain Valley; 27 grandchildren; and 55 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove. Burial will be in Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
NADINE NEET
NadineNeet, 90, Grandview, formerly of Independence, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 1998, at the Grandview Manor Nursing Home.
Mrs. Neet was born June 6, 1907, in Wakenda, Mo. She was a secretary for Montgomery Wards, retiring in 1972. She was a member of the Northeast Presbyterian Church.
Her survivors include two nephews; seven great-nieces and nephews; and a great-great-niece and nephews.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the church.
MARJORIE I. "MARGE" PHILLIPS
Marjorie I. "Marge" Phillips, 66, Independence, died Friday, Feb. 6, 1998, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Philips was born July 18, 1931, in Clinton, Mo., and had lived in Independence for 32 years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Fairmount Christian Church.
Her survivors include her husband of 47 years, Edward "Ed" Phillips, Independence; two sons, Michael Phillips, San Diego, Calif., and Alan Phillips, Independence; two brothers, Bill Showman, Bryan, Texas, and Charles Showman, Clinton; and four grandchildren, Michelle Phillips, Shannon Phillips, Ashley Phillips and Corey Phillips.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m Tuesday at the chapel.
LOLAP. RALSTON
Lola P. Ralston, 90, Washington, Ill., died Saturday, Feb. 7, 1998, at the Fondulac Woods Health Care Center.
Mrs. Ralston was born June 12, 1907, in Smith Center, Kan. She was a homemaker. Her husband, Robert C. Ralston, died in 1982.
Her survivors include two grandsons, Robert M. Ralston, East Peoria, Ill., and James G. Ralston, Peoria Heights, Ill.; and two great-grandchildren, Laura Ralston, Peoria, and Michael Ralston, East Peoria.
Graveside will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Mound Grove cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the Northern Tazewell Fire and Rescue Service. Arrangements are under the direction of Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs.
EVERETT L. SCHWAB
Everett L. Schwab, 74, Lawson, Mo., died Friday, Feb. 6, 1998, at Liberty Hospital.
Mr. Schwab was born April 17, 1923, in Oxford, Iowa. He was a truck driver before he retired, and was a member of Teamsters Local 41. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of the Excelsior Springs (Mo.) Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
His survivors include his wife, Marylois Schwab of the home; seven sons, Everett Schwab, Alexis, Ill., David Dixson, Iowa City, Iowa, Raymond Schwab, Springfield, Ohio, Garry E. Schwab, Independence, Dennis Schwab and Rick Schwab, both of Lawson, and Kevin B. Schwab, Richmond, Mo.; three daughters, Donna Owens and Connie McKee, both of Lawson, and Sharyll Steers, Independence; three sisters, Hazel Livermore, Omaha, Neb., DorisFoster, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Beverly Voss, Pannell, Iowa; 29 grandchildren;and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be 7:30 tonight at the Jarman Funeral Homne, Lawson; cremation. Friends may call from 5 to 7:30 tonight at the funeral home.
DELBERT H. SIMPSON
Delbert H. Simpson, 81, Blue Springs, formerly of Sibley, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.
Mr. Simpson was born Aug. 10, 1916, in Sibley, and had lived in Blue Springs for 40 years. He was a real estate agent. He was a member of Six Mile Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge 76, a 32nd Degree Mason, and a member of Shriners of Jackson County 313. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of American Legion Post 499 in Blue Springs, and a life member of Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 1000 in Independence.
His survivors include his wife, Dorothy Simpson of the home; two daughters, Linda A. Harrell, Buckner, and Diane Nelson, Independence; a sister, Lucille Dodson, Blue Springs; two brothers, Johnny Simpson and Charlie Simpson, both of Independence; and three grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Buckner cemetery, where VFW services will be held.Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel.
