DORIS L. SNAVELY
Doris Lee Snavely, 85, Blue Springs, died Sunday, Nov. 16, 1997.
Mrs. Snavely was born April 6, 1912, in Mammoth Springs, Ark., and lived in Kansas City, Kan., and Lake of the Ozarks before returning to this area six years ago. The last two years she was a resident of the Woods Chapel Retirement Lodge. She had worked for Gateway Sporting Goods before she retired. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Blue Springs. Her husband, William Snavely, died in 1992.
Her survivors include two daughters, Irma Owen, Blue Springs, and Noram "Corky" McCray, Bellville, Texas; two sons, Bill Snavely, Lenexa, Kan., and Larry Snavely, Bonner Springs, Kan.; a sister, Florence White, LaCygne, Kan.; two brothers, Emmett Frost, Houston, Mo., and Leo Frost, Kansas City, Kan.; six grandchildren, Sandy Boring, Susan Devane, Mark Snavely, Tommy McCray, Nancy Knight, and Melissa Quiring; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 6 to 9 tonight at the chapel.
LEONA M. BLACKSTOCK
Leona M. Blackstock, 90, Independence, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Blackstock was born July 30, 1907, in Lucas County, Iowa, and lived in St. Joseph, Mo., before moving to this area in 1981. She was a member of the East Alton RLDS congregation. Her husband, John W. Blackstock, died in 1993.
Her survivors include three daughters, Elizabeth Anne Buckingham and Lee M. Snethen, both of Independence, Donna Jeanne Hoffman, St. Joseph; two brothers, Harold W. Cackler and J. Charles Cackler, both of Independence; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Graveside services will be private. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the RLDS Temple Endowment Fund.
GENEVIEVE M. "JEAN" CUNNINGHAM
Genevieve M. "Jean" Cunningham, 87, Independence, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 1997, at the Independence Health Care Center. Mrs. Cunningham was born March 26, 1910, in Sedalia, Mo., and had lived in Independence most of her life. She worked for Pratt & Whitney at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant during World War II. She was a member of Mount Washington United Methodist Church, and a former member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was preceded in death by her husband, W.P. Cunningham in 1987, and a son, William P. Cunningham in 1991.
Her survivors include a daughter, Peggy J. Kerr, Independence; five grandchildren, Karen Miller, Ozark, Mo., CarolWard, Tulsa, Okla., Nelson Cunningham, Omaha, Neb., Patrick Kerr, Ormond Beach, Fla., and Charles Kerr, Independence; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 4 p.m. Saturday at the church; cremation. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.
MARY J. DIBBLE
Mary Jean Dibble, 71, Independence, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Dibble was born Sept. 14, 1926, in Maysville, Mo., and had lived in Independence for 25 years. She was a visiting nurse for the city of Independence Home Health Division for nine years. She was a member of the Christian Church in Versailles, Mo. She was preceded in death by a son, Gary Jones in 1988.
Her survivors include her husband, Charles Dibble of the home; two sons, Elton E. Jones, Crestline, Kan., and J.O. Brown, Berea, Ky.; two daughters, Sue Brown, Grandview, and Sharon Ewan, Bonner Springs, Kan.; a sister, Marguerite Blair, Cameron, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday at New Salem cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8 tonight at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.
KATHLYN G. FISH
Kathlyn Georgia Fish, 82, Independence, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Fish was born May 26, 1915, in Ledyard, Iowa, and had lived in Bethlehem, Pa., before moving to Independence in 1970. She was a secretary for the Iowa State University Extension School and the YWCA of Bethlehem before she retired. She was a member of the RLDS Stone Church congregation and had sungin its choir and the Messiah Choir. She was also active in other church work. She was an honorary member of the Lehigh University Women`s Club of Bethlehem.Her husband, Velmer B. Fish, died in 1968.
Her survivors include a son, Leland Fish, Kansas City; a daughter, Mary Anne Adkins, Lee`s Summit; a brother, Robert Kolarich, Godfrey, Ill.; a sister, Joy Betty Hedges, Kansas City; and four grandchildren, William B. Fish, Jonathan T. Fish, Michael Adkins and Kristen Hankins.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel. Graveside services and burial will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Rush Lake cemetery, Mallard, Iowa. Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the chapel.
ANNIE PARR
Annie Parr, 95, Springfield, Mo., died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 1997, at Lenox Health Care Center, Springfield.
Mrs. Parr was born Aug. 6, 1902, in Brownsville, Tenn. She was a homemaker, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Blue Springs, where she was a member of the choir.
Her survivors include seven daughters, Patty S. Baldwin and Shirley Crooks, both of Springfield, Genie Martindale, Oak Grove, Mary Pitts, Raytown, Geneva Russell, Independence, BettyFowler, Hot Springs, Ark., and Helen Davis, Reed Springs, Mo.; two sons, David Hamilton, Alameda, Calif., and Harold Hamilton, Fort Meyers, Fla.; a sister, Dehlia Williams, Middleton, Tenn.; 34 grandchildren; 70 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Blue Springs Chapel. Burial will be in Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Girls in Action Missions at the church.
SEAN M. RILEY
Sean Mitchell Riley, infant son of Donna and Roger Riley of El Cajon, Calif., died Sunday, Nov. 9, 1997.
His survivors also include a sister, Taylor Elise Riley, El Cajon; two half sisters, Shannon Harrison and Ashley Harrison, Maurice, La.; maternal grandparents, Diana and Thomas Ramsey, Greenville, S.C.; paternal grandparents, Millie and Don Riley, and paternal great-grandfather, Howard Huffman, all of Independence; his godmother, Erika Nohl, El Cajon; and aunts, uncles and cousins.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Floral Hills cemetery, Kansas City. Arrangements are under the direction of the Speaks Suburban Chapel.
BENJAMIN A. CRAIG JR.
Benjamin Arnold Craig Jr., 58, Liberty, Mo., died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, at North Kansas City Hospital.
Mr. Craig was born Dec. 10, 1939, in Butler, Mo., and had lived in Liberty for the past six years. He worked on the assembly line for the Chevrolet Division of the Leeds Manufacturing Plant in Kansas City.
His survivors include two sisters, Brenda Thompson, Blue Springs, and Cindy Kesbey, Independence.
Graveside memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Oak Hill cemetery, Butler; cremation. Arrangements are under the direction of the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel, Butler.
WILLIAM J. ENGLAND
William Jean England, 66, Chandler, Ariz., formerly of Independence, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, in Chandler.
Mr. England was born in Independence.
His survivors include his wife, Vanessa L. England, and one son, William Scott England, both of Chandler; two sisters, Helen Williams, Versailles, Mo., and Anna Marie England, Independence.
Arrangements were under the direction of Bueler Mortuary, Chandler.
MICHAEL C.L. FIELDS
Michael Cecil Lee Fields, 35, California, Mo., died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital in Jefferson City, Mo.
Mr. Fields was born Nov. 25, 1962, in Kansas City. He was a truck driver.
His survivors include his wife, Anita Cristine Wolf Fields, California, Mo.; one son, Dallas; his mother, Geseine Fields, and one brother, William J. Fields, both of Braymer.
Services will be 3 p.m. Friday at the Braymer Baptist Church. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery, Braymer. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the Pitts Funeral home, Braymer. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Association.
ROBERT E. HINKLE
Robert E. Hinkle, 55, El Dorado Springs, Mo., formerly of Blue Springs, died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at Citizens Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Hinkle was born Oct. 27, 1942, in Kansas City, and had lived in Blue Springs for 18 years. He had been a security officer on the Plaza prior to working for Parklane Medical Center security. He was a former vice president of H&H; Warehouse and had been a detective for the Raytown Police Department.
His survivors include his wife, Randy Kay Hinkle, Independence; one son, William Robert Hinkle, Osceola, Mo.; one daughter, Dani Schmill, Belton, Mo.; one stepson, Chris Mulkey, Independence; three stepdaughters, Nancy Francis, Independence, Timi Laggner, Smithfield, Va., and Jane Stone, Blue Springs; his mother, Pauline Hinkle, Weaubleau, Mo.; two sisters, Kathy Foster, Weaubleau, and Gerry Townsend, Columbia, Mo.; 17 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Sheil Colonial Chapel, Raytown. Intombment will be in the Mount Olivet cemetery Mausoleum, Raytown. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the chapel.
H. KATHLEEN HOUK
H. Kathleen Houk, 71, Independence, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at the Rosewood Health Center.
Mrs. Houk was born Nov. 29, 1926, in Independence. She returned to this area in 1990. During World War II, she sold War Bonds in record numbers. She was an active Cub Scout den leader, piano teacher, Avon representative, and a Garden Club president. She was also a volunteer at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center. She taught Sunday school for many years, and was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, attending the Stone Church congregation, where she served as hospitality host. She attended school in Independence.
Her survivors include her husband, Charles Houkof the home; three sons, David Houk, Vacaville, Calif., John Houk, Reno, Nev., and Paul Houk, Dayton, Ohio; one brother, Homer Frank Hiles, Climax Springs, Mo.; three grandchildren, Daniel Houk, Matthew Houk and Cathleen Houk; and manynieces and nephews.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Stone Church; cremation. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Stone Church Endowment Fund or the RLDS Temple Endowment Fund. Arrangements are under the direction of the Speaks Midtown Chapel.
