Gladys Lou Anderson
(February 24, 1929 - December 2, 2015)
Gladys Lou Anderson of Rogers, Arkansas, age 86 passed away December 2 at the Earlene Howard Home in Springdale. She was born February 24, 1929 in Wichita, Kansas to parents Clement R. and Nellie M. Parks. She is survived by her son, Calvin C. Renfro of Emporia, Kansas and daughters Cheryl Chalfant of Rogers and Susan Ross of Federal Way, Washington. Also surviving are her brothers, Roy and his wife Della Parks of McPherson, Kansas, Richard Parks of Goddard, Kansas, and sister Sara Weigand of Kent, Washington, eight grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind sisters-in-law, Lola Anderson, and Wanda Anderson of Seligman, Missouri. She also leaves a friendship that lasted more than 40 years and has sustained even long distance with her good friend Georgia Hogan of Kent, Washington.
Our mom met Jimmy Dale Anderson while working at Boeing at the Wichita plant. They were married
June 21, 1954 in Wichita. She traveled with him from Wichita to Rapid City, S.D., Shreveport and Bossier City, Louisiana, Kent, Washington, then Rogers, Arkansas where Jimmy passed away in 1999. She was a Christian and was a member and attended First Christian Church of Rogers until failing health kept her from attendance.
Mom was a talker, and a great story teller. Her children and grandchildren still recall the stories she told of her childhood with three sisters and five brothers, growing up during the depression. She was an avid seamstress and made many outfits for her family and sometimes for her friends. She was known for creating beautiful quilts, and her excellent embroidery. Many had the good fortune to be recipients of mom’s Christmas plates of her homemade fruit cake, decorated cookies, and candies. She made the applesauce that was the main ingredient of the cake then cut by hand the dates, figs and nuts. She wouldn’t use the candied fruit that was in most fruitcakes. One year we made 13 cakes and 13 dozen decorated cookies. She felt bad because she was unable to make them this past Christmas. Mom was a wonderful housekeeper, and cook. She could make a meal out of meager ingredients and you would think it was a feast. Mom loved her extended family and her friends and prayed for everyone every night. She was saddened when her illness confined her to her home and kept her from visiting like she had in the past.
Our family would like to express our gratitude to the wonderful personnel at Circle of Life Hospice House at Legacy Village, in Bentonville, and Earlene Howard Hospice Home in Springdale for their help during mom’s final days. They were so good at answering questions, and providing so much advice on how to make her more comfortable. From the initial sign up until she passed she felt comfortable with all of the Emerald team members.
Mom’s final days were really rough and with the circumstances of the final two weeks we wondered why she was still with us. She proved to be very tough, but we now wonder if there wasn’t a reason she passed on the day that she did. Mom had a baby girl on December 1, 1964, and she died on December 2, 1964. Was she waiting for that particular date? Whenever December 1st came around mom would be sad, now she won’t be since she will be with her baby and dad.
Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, December 7, 2015, in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville, Missouri. Chaplain John Pate will conduct the services. Burial will be in King cemetery, Seligman, Missouri.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Monday in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville.
