Gary Lee Lovendahl

Gary Lovendahl, age 78 of Shell Knob, Missouri, passed away Thursday, July 2, 2015. He was born on April 12, 1937, in Clyde, Kansas to Reuben & Alda (Law) Lovendahl.

Gary graduated from Clyde High School and recently attended his 60th Class reunion. He married JoAnn Smith on July 20, 1958, in Clyde, Kansas at the Baptist Church. He was a truck driver for Clay Center Concrete Company for 20 years and 20 years for Kansas Power & Light as an operator. He served eight years in the Kansas National Guard. Gary enjoyed riding motorcycles, John Deere tractors and operating remote controlled toys. He and JoAnn enjoyed spending their winters at Fun N Sun Park in Texas and also helping his son Brian on the farm in the summers.

Gary is survived by his wife, JoAnn of Shell Knob, Missouri; son, Brian Lovendahl (Brenda Beck) of Shell Knob, Missouri; grandchildren, Staci Keithley (Alex) of Blue Eye, Misssouri; Shelby Tipton (Bobby) of Blue Eye, Missouri and Sheyanne Lovendahl of Shell Knob, Missouri and great grandchildren, Matthew, Madison and Mason Keithley of Blue Eye, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at Chaput Mortuary, 310 Washington, PO Box 291, Clyde, Kansas 66938.

Visitation will be from 1:00 until 8:00 PM with the family greeting friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, Tuesday, July 7, 2015, at the mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to Central Crossing Senior Center, P.O. Box 707, Shell Knob, Missouri 65747.

Local arrangements were under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob, Missouri.

Charles Edward Simpson
(April 6, 1932 - July 2, 2015)

Charles Edward Simpson, age 83, of Cassville, Missouri, passed away Thursday, July 2, 2015, in Roaring River Health and Rehabilitation Cassville, Missouri.

He was born April 6, 1932, in Seibert, Colorado, the son of Charles E. and Velma (Fisher) Simpson, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were one step-daughter, Carol Eaton; his companion, Dorothy Brooks and three brothers, David, Robert and Bill Simpson.

Surviving are four sons, Marvin Simpson of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Charles Simpson of Larned, Kansas, Norman Simpson and his wife, Sara of Rogers, Arkansas and Walt Simpson and his wife, Amber of Pueblo, Colorado; one step-son, Tom Brooks and his wife, Stephanie of Cassville, Missouri; one step-daughter, Carrie Brooks of Springfield, Missouri; one brother, Larry Simpson and his wife, Bonnie of Pampa, Texas; two sisters, Sue Bowen and her husband, Dwight of Hollis, Oklahoma and Lanie Ingram and husband, Ronnie of Pampa, Texas; sixteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Charles attended school in Wellington, Texas. In 1995, he moved from Pueblo, Colorado, to Cassville, Missouri, to make his home. He enjoyed working on tractors, fishing, watching NASCAR and tinkering around in his shed.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 7, 2015, in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville, Missouri. Pastor Larry Henbest and Pastor Carolyn McNabb will conduct the services. Burial will be in Mineral Springs cemetery, Cassville.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Monday in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville, Missouri.

Contributions may be made to Oxford Hospice in memory of Charles.

Robert "Bob" E. Lee
(February 19, 1935 - July 11, 2015)

U.S. Veteran
Robert E. Lee, age 80, of Cassville, Missouri answered his master’s call and passed away peaceably in the early morning hours of July 11, 2015, with his wife of 59 years, Barbara by his side. He was affectionately referred to as Honey by his family. Bob was born February 19, 1935, in Cassville to Raymond and Mary Jane “Nell” (Heffley) Lee, who preceded him in death. Bob is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Cantwell, who he married November 19, 1955.

Additional survivors are daughters, Janell (Lee) Stewart and her husband, James of Cassville; Valarie (Lee) Hutchens and her husband, Phil, also of Cassville. Also surviving him are three grandchildren: Alison (Hutchens) Vanzant and her husband, Josh, Ryan Hutchens and his wife, Veronica and Robert Dru Stewart. Three great grandchildren, Emma Hutchens, Eden Vanzant and Carson Hutchens also survived him. Bob’s one brother, Bill Lee and his wife, Veva, their children, Dustin Lee and Amy White survive him as well. Along with many nieces and nephews as well as cousins.

Bob owned and operated Bob Lee Zenith Television Sales & Service for 57 years. He was an accomplished airplane pilot for over 50 years. He served 13 years in the Army Reserve and was a member of the American Legion.

Bob graduated Cassville High School in 1953. He and his classmates remained close throughout their lives, gathering often to enjoy each other’s company and share the joy of friendship.

He was a talented musician who could play almost any musical instrument you put in his hand, but his favorite was the fiddle. Bob played with many local bands over the years, including the Texas Swing band “The Ozark Ramblers”. He performed on the Ozarks Jubilee Television show that was broadcast on KYTV out of Springfield, Missouri. A very special time in Bob’s life was serving as Music & Choir Director of Corinth Baptist Church. He was also the music host of the KRMO Radio Show “Sermon & Song”, where he worked alongside Pastor Fred Lynn of Corinth Baptist Church for many years.

Bob lived his entire life in Cassville, however his music ministry reached countless lives all over the Ozarks. Bob was also able to bring endless joy to his own family through his music and the music of others. From his children’s earliest memories, Janell and Valarie recall the sounds of their father’s favorite music collections. Songs from Hovie Lister, James Blackwood, Bob Wills, Bill Gaither and more always filled the halls of their home. Honey’s love of music was known by all that stepped in the Lee home.

Bob Lee will be missed dearly by all who loved him.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, July 14, 2015, in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Pastors Lawrence Shuey, Bob Neeley and Paul Wahlert will conduct the services. Burial with military honors will be in Corinth cemetery, Cassville, Missouri.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Monday in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville.

Gerald "Jerry" R. Bass
(August 8, 1946 - July 6, 2015)

Gerald R. “Jerry” Bass, age 68, of Shell Knob, Missouri, passed away Monday, July 6, 2015, in his home.

Jerry was born August 8, 1946, in Emporia, Kansas, the son of Lois Nadine (Jones) and Roy Everett Bass. On January 8, 1966, he was united in marriage to Norma Jean Irvine, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Gerie Bass of Wichita, Kansas and Wendy Browning and her husband, Sean of Willard, Missouri; one brother, Ronald Bass and his wife, Judy of Shell Knob, Missouri; one sister, Rita Fife and her husband, Bob of Wichita, Kansas; three grandchildren, Michael Spies of Huntington Beach, California and Ashli Browning and Luke Browning of Willard, Missouri and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents.

Jerry grew up and received his education in Kansas and moved to Missouri upon his retirement in 2002, from Boeing in Wichita. His favorite pastimes were camping and boating. He and his brother, Ron were always busy fixing and building things. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren.

He was a member of Lakeside Christian Church of Shell Knob, where A Celebration of Life will be held at 6:30 P.M. Friday, July 24, 2015.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, July 9, 2015, in Walnut Valley Memorial Park, El Dorado, Kansas, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob. Pastor Chet Shaw will conduct the services.

Elaine Marie Betts
(June 22, 1932 - July 8, 2015)

Cassville resident Elaine Marie (Bowman) Betts went home to be with our loving and caring Lord Jesus Christ at 10:25 A.M. on Wednesday, July 8, 2015, at the age of 83. She was born June 22, 1932, in Audubon Co., IA, daughter of Harold Edward and Erma Irene (Grohe) Bowman.

Elaine was the oldest, with a sister and a brother. Elaine was united in marriage to Warren Edgar Betts on May 20, 1951, at Greenbrier Methodist Church, Greene Co., IA with whom she shared 57 wonderful years. To this union was born 7 children. The couple was born and lived in Iowa, moving to Cassville, MO in 1989.

Elaine went to country school for 8 years, attended Bayard High School 1 year, and graduated from Bagley High School, Bagley, IA in 1951. She loved 6-girl basketball and in 1951, was named Iowa All-State Basketball guard. While attending school, she helped her father with the farm work and could run all of the tractors and equipment. Her dad made her a great Tom Boy! She could harness a team of horses at the age of 10 and cultivate corn with horses and tractors, haul rocks, and pick half a wagon of corn by hand. She enjoyed a Palomino riding horse. She took piano lessons and was active in the Methodist Church Youth Fellowship (MYF) and 4-H (both Boys and Girls) showing calves and colts.

Elaine was a lifelong member of the 1st United Methodist Church, serving as Chairman, Secretary, and Treasurer of Circle, Woman’s Society, Missions Committee, leader of the MYF for years. She received 2 Recognition Awards for outstanding service from the 1st United Methodist Churches of LeMars, IA and Cassville, MO. She enjoyed helping with crafts at church. Warren & Elaine were Vice President of Band Parents and helped raise over $10,000 for LeMars High School Band uniforms. She also belonged to and loved the Golden Harvest Club of Cassville, holding several positions for years. She belonged to the Cassville St. John’s Hospital Auxiliary as a “pink lady” and Cassville Legion Auxiliary. Elaine loved her family dearly and made over 80 scrap books of important events in their lives. The family cleaned the 1st United Methodist Church in LeMars, IA for 11 years and she had her own cleaning business for over 20 years. She also did a lot of babysitting.

Preceding her in death are her loving husband Warren Edgar Betts, her parents and brother-in-law. She is survived by a daughter Linda Pearl & her husband William J. Buckingham of Muncie, IN, a son Donnell Edward & his wife Sally M. Betts of New Hartford, IA, a daughter Lila Rae & her husband CSM (Ret.) Dean M. Kolker of Rolla, MO, a daughter RieVon Marie Betts of Rolla, MO, a daughter Rita Irene & her husband John D. Tyson of Superior, WI, a daughter Darla Sue & her husband Dr. J. Patrick Otto of Tulsa, OK, and a daughter Loa Jean & her husband J. Allen Osborne of Waxhaw, NC. She is survived by her sister Lois Skinner of Evona, MO, and her brother Dallas & wife Belva Bowman of Adel, IA. Elaine is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and a host of wonderful friends. She will be fondly remembered and deeply missed as a devoted and loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, July 11, 2015, in Cassville United Methodist Church, with Pastor Andy Lambel officiating.

Contributions may be made to Cassville United Methodist Church for the Food Pantry in memory of Elaine.

Cremation arrangements are under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville.

Lewis E. Taylor
(January 11, 1930 - July 11, 2015)

Lewis E. Taylor, age 85, of Monett, Missouri, passed away Saturday, July 11, 2015, in his home.

He was born January 11, 1930, in Shell Knob, Missouri, the son of Lawrence and Nettie (Smith) Taylor. On April 19, 1951, he was united in marriage to Zelma Periman, who survives. Also surviving are one son, Gaylon Taylor and his wife, Sheryl of Piedmont, Missouri; two daughters, Annitta Latshaw and her husband, Michael of Monett, Missouri and Janice Greek and her husband, Larry of Cassville, Missouri; eleven grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one son, Randall; five brothers and three sisters.

Lewis received his education at Hailey Rural School. He was a self-employed carpenter, working all over Barry County. He attended Chapel of Grace Church in Monett.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, July 16, 2015, in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Pastor Jimmie Copley and Pastor Doyle Russell will conduct the services. Burial will be in Mineral Springs cemetery, Cassville.

The family will receive friends from 9:00 until 11:00 A.M. Thursday in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville.

Mary "Catherine" Harrison
(February 8, 1943 - July 12, 2015)

Mary Catherine Harrison, age 72, of Cassville, Missouri, passed away Sunday, July 12, 2015, in Lacoba Homes, Monett, Missouri.

She was born February 8, 1943, in St. Paul, Minnesota, the daughter of William and Iola (Royce) Schilling. On April 11, 1959, she was united in marriage to Richard C. Harrison, who preceded her in death on January 12, 2014. Also preceding her in death were her parents, two sisters and one brother.

Surviving are two sons, Richard Harrison of Menomonie, Wisconsin and William Harrison and his wife, Shonali of Chaska, Minnesota; two daughters, Lorie Harrison of Chetek, Wisconsin and Beth Killion and her husband, Larry Williams of Cassville, Missouri; one brother, William Schilling of Florida; one sister, Patsy Deal of Maplewood, Minnesota; seven grandchildren, Travis Arnold, Lauren Arnold, Shriyanka Harrison, Shamil Harrison, Grace Harrison, Amber Blankenship and Jason Noel and two great grandchildren, William and Allister Arnold.

Catherine grew up and received her education in St. Paul, Minnesota. In 1993, she moved to Cassville to make her home. For fifteen years she was employed for Wal-Mart from which she retired. Her favorite pastime was gardening. She was of the Catholic Faith.

No services are scheduled at this time. Cremation arrangements are under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville.

Eugene Alvin Gourley
(October 18, 1923 - July 16, 2015)

Eugene Alvin Gourley, age 91, of Aurora, Missouri, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2015, in his home.

He was born October 18, 1923, in Wichita, Kansas, the son of Lloyd and Rosie May (Barber) Gourley. He was untied in marriage to Jo Ann, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were his parents, three siblings and a granddaughter, Lisa.

Surviving are two daughters, Linda Gourley and Glenda Powell; a sister-in-law, Shirley; two grandchildren; five great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Eugene grew up and received his education in Wichita, Kansas and retired from a Gas Service Company. During World War II he served in the United States Army. Twenty-four years ago he moved to Aurora, Missouri, to make his home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, July 20, 2015, in General Assembly Church of the First Born, 3742 S. West Street, Wichita, Kansas 67217, under direction of DeVorss Flanagan-Hunt Mortuary, Wichita. Burial with military honors will be in Greenwood cemetery, Wichita, Kansas.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 5:00 P.M. Sunday in the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to General Assembly Church of the First Born in memory of Eugene.

Local arrangements were under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville.
