Kennedy, James E. "Gene"
James E. “Gene” Kennedy, age 81, of Lee’s Summit, formerly of Fortuna and Versailles, passed away Monday morning, October 3, 2005 at John Knox Village Care Center in Lee’s Summit. He was born December 23, 1923 at Gravois Mills, Missouri, the son of James Martin and Mabel Wilda Landrum Kennedy. He was united in marriage with Betty L. Carlow, who preceded him in death on July 21, 2003. Gene was a member of First Baptist Church of Lee’ Summit. Gene was a farmer until the mid 1950’s in the Fortuna, MO area; upon moving to Kansas City he worked for General Motors Assembly Division Leeds Plant 30 years. He is survived by his daughter, Patricia C. and husband, Steven W. Cain, three grandsons, Timothy M. Vento, Leonard M. Rodriquez, and Evan M.J. Rodriquez, all of Lee’s Summit. Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 6, at the Versailles cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home of Versailles.
Kessler JoAnn
JoAnn Kessler, age 78, of Sunrise Beach, Missouri, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2005 at Lake Regional Health System in Osage Beach. She was born August 27, 1926 in Alton, Iowa, the daughter of John and Nellie Leenhouts Vrieze. She was united in marriage on July 13, 1946 to Fred Kessler who preceded her in death on March 30, 1992. Mrs. Kessler designed clothes and taught sewing classes. She was a member of the Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church, Hurricane Deck Lions Club, American Legion Auxiliary of Sunrise Beach, American Women’s Business Association, and was a youth leader for Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church and Westover Baptist Church. She is survived by four daughters, Brenda Vasicek of Big Rapids, Michigan, Kay Reeves of Sunrise Beach, Missouri, Susan McFadden of Laguna Beach, California, and Conni Jeschke of Des Moines, Iowa; one brother John Vrieze of Orange City, Iowa; one nephew Phillip Blalock; five grandchildren, Todd, Jennifer, Rick, Lorie, and Amy; five great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, August 2, 2005 at Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church in Laurie with Reverend Rick White officiating. The vocalist is Fred Norris, pianist Nelda Ronnekamp and a poem will be read by a dear friend JoAnn Greer. Private Graveside services will be in Ozark Chapel cemetery in Laurie. Casketbearers are Dottie Llafet, Linda Frymyer, JoAnn Greer, Roberta Waters, Carol Lawson, and Linda Hawk. Kilmer, Grace Elaine
Grace Elaine Kilmer, 7 week old daughter of Daniel Z. and Erma K. Newswanger Kilmer, of Versailles, passed away Saturday morning, December 10, 2005 at her home. She was born October 30, 2005 near Versailles. She is survived by her parents of the home; nine brothers and sisters, Matthew, Louella, Paul, Mark, Norma, Marlin, Michael, Janice and Lorraine Kilmer, all of the home; paternal grandmother, Ella L. Kilmer of Versailles; maternal grandparents, David and Mary Ann Newswanger of Fortuna, many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 13, at the family home, with Daniel Newswanger officiating, and at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Excelsior Mennonite Church near Versailles, with Ivan Hurst, Leonard Martin and Raymond Shirk officiating. Interment was in the Church cemetery, with Nevin Nolt officiating. Pallbearers are Paul Shirk and Maynard Kilmer. Kindle, Nadean
Nadean Kindle, age 83, of Versailles, passed away Wednesday morning, October 12, 2005 at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. She was born March 22, 1922 at Irontown, MO, the daughter of James Peter and Flossie Kincaid Roll. She was united in marriage on July 16, 1940 with Homer F. Kindle, who preceded her in death on August 18, 1988. Mrs. Kindle was retired from American Sales in Versailles, and a member of West Union Baptist Church near Versailles. She is survived by three daughters, Ukidean Scott and husband Louis, of Dalhart, Texas, Shirley Jungmeyer and husband Ron, of Russellville, and Louise Cronin and husband Lawrence, of McKinney, Texas; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, Pauline Roll of Versailles, and Helen Kindle of Warsaw, many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by two brothers, Peter Ira Roll and Finas H. Roll, and one sister, Nettie Williams. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles, with Rev. Rod Campbell officiating. Interment will be in the Climax Springs cemetery. Belia Kruse, age 42, of Versailles, passed away Monday, November 22, 2004 at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City. She was born April 28, 1962 in Mercedes, Texas, the daughter of Antonio Jr. and Benilde Lopez Marroquin. She was united in marriage on December 24, 1990 with Steven Kruse. Belia was a certified nurses aide and worked at Tipton Manor. She was an active member of the Versailles First Christian Church. Survivors include her husband, Steven Kruse of the home; two daughters, Jessica Davis of Crosby, Minnesota, and Chelsea Kruse of the home; her mother, Benilde Marroquin of Rio Grande City, Texas; nine brothers, Lucio and David Marroquin, of Savannah, Georgia, Arturo, Antiono, Noe, and Jessie Marroquin, of Rio Grande City, Texas, Mike Marroquin of El Campo, Texas, Roy Marroquin of McAllen, Texas, and Rey Marroquin of Fort Hood, Texas; two sisters, Zulema Gutierrez of Harker Heights, Texas, and Angie Gonzalez, of Roma, Texas; many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 26, at the First Christian Church in Versailles, with Mark Landis and John Wagner officiating. Interment will be in the Hopewell cemetery. Kubick, C. Louise
C. Louise Schmidt Kubick, age 81, of Gravois Mills, passed away Friday afternoon, November 4, 2005 at Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach. She was born July 16, 1924 at Cowgill, Missouri, the daughter of Clyde E. and Myrtle E. Taylor Clark. She was united in marriage in 1947 with Raymond Schmidt, who preceded her in death in 1973. In 1977 she married
William Harry Kubick, who preceded her in death in 1997. Mrs. Kubick was a homemaker, worked for the Midland Company in Fairfax, Kansas, and retired from Kroger Grocery. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Laurie, and a volunteer at West Side Senior Center in Laurie. She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Sue Arnold of Kansas City, KS, and Deborah Lynn Ingerson of Tonganoxie, KS; her mother, Myrtle Clark of Lenexa, KS; one sister, Violet Marie Minton of Lenexa, KS; 11 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Francis Anthony “Sandy” Schmidt, and Larry Ray Schmidt. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 8, at the Kidwell-Garber Laurie-Sunrise Beach Chapel in Laurie, with Rev. Marc Knapp officiating. Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Kansas City, Kansas. Leah Gale LaFoy, age 91, of Versailles, passed away Sunday morning, September 12, 2004 at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. She was born January 5, 1913 in Oatville, Kansas, the daughter of Frank and Meryl Hanes Johnson. She was united in marriage on September 4, 1931 with Robert LaFoy, who preceded her in death on November 21, 1992. Mrs. LaFoy worked for Jenkins Food Market in Wichita, Kansas, and later the Good Shepherd Care Center in Versailles. She is survived by one son, Jon LaFoy of Gravois Mills; two daughters, Beverly Coburn of Pittsboro, N.C., and Nancy Sink of Versailles; one brother, Bill Johnson of Wichita, KS; two sisters, Dorothy Pierce of Wichita, KS, and Pat Parmale of Clearwater, KS; 28 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one son, Robert Joe LaFoy. Alisha Lamm, age 15, of Tipton, passed away Sunday morning, February 15, 2004 at the University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics in Columbia. She was born July 8, 1988 in Columbia, Missouri, the daughter of Aubrey Earl and Teresa Diane Capps Lamm. Alisha was a sophomore at Tipton High School, where she played volleyball and was a cheerleader. She was very involved in the community and with friends. She is survived by her parents, Aubrey Earl and Teresa Diane Lamm of the home; one brother, David Bryan Reneau of Mesquite, Texas; one sister, Tabitha LeAnn Lamm of Tipton; maternal grandparents, Neil Capps of Versailles, Velma Dalton of Kansas City, and Carol Galbraith of Stover, several aunts, uncles, cousins, great-aunts and great uncles, one niece, many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Harold and Betty Lamm. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 20, at Saint Andrew Catholic Church in Tipton. Flossie Lucille Lapp, age 85, of Barnett, passed away Sunday, September 12, 2004 at St. Marys Health Center in Jefferson City. She was born October 9, 1918 at Barnett, Missouri, the daughter of Ab and Gertie McDow Cochran. She was united in marriage on September 9, 1939 in Springfield, MO, with Gustavo (Gus) Lapp, who preceded her in death on November 30, 1989. Mrs. Lapp enjoyed gardening and antiques. She is survived by one son, John Lapp and wife Brenda, of Barnett; and one grandson, Christopher Lapp. In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one brother, Wray Cochran. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 17, at Greenmore Memorial Gardens cemetery in Barnett. Laughlin, Herbert W.
Herbert W. Laughlin, age 92, of Laurie, MO, formerly of Wheatland, passed away Saturday morning, June 11, 2005 at the Laurie Care Center. He was born October 17, 1912 at Stilwell, Kansas, the son of Jesse and Cora Bell Feltingberger Laughlin. He was united in marriage on December 18, 1937 with Edna Mildred Hanson, who preceded him in death. Mr. Laughlin was a self-employed automobile mechanic at Laughlin Brothers Garage for many years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #6 since 1954, a member of the Shrine, and former Fire Chief of the Stanley, Missouri Fire Department. He is survived by one daughter, Pat Mock and her husband Ed, of Laurie, MO; one granddaughter, Katrina Couey and her husband Micky, and two great-grandsons, Bryan Couey and Christopher Couey, all of Milledgeville, GA; one brother, Marion J. Laughlin and his wife Julia, of Belton, MO; one sister, Bonnie Worley and her husband Francis, of Lawrence, KS; six nieces and nephews, many other relatives and friends. Laura Rae Soppe, age 47, of Versailles, passed away Friday evening, August 6, 2004 at the University of Missouri Hospital in Columbia, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident earlier in the evening near California. She was born June 22, 1957 in Allendale, North Dakota, the daughter of Lloyd and Dorothy Farell Hakanson. She was united in marriage on February 12, 1977 with Steven J. Soppe, who survives of the home. Laura was a certified nurses aide for 27 years, member of the Gravois Mills United Methodist Church, coached soccer and was a Girl Scout leader. In addition to her husband she is survived by one son, Steven D. Soppe of Versailles; two daughters, Barbara A. Crall of Eldon, and Tracy M. Edgar of Barnett; two brothers, Oscar “Bud” Hakanson and Alfred Hakanson, of Dubuque, Iowa; five sisters, Tammie Giunta, Sherrie Moriarity, and Harmony A. Mitchley-Deich, of Dubuque, Iowa, Terrie Smith of Mount Carroll, Illinois, and Melodie Cushman of Platteville, Wisconsin; ten grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, Donna Beverlin and Shellie Hakanson. Jack Laurie, age 72, of St. James, formerly of Laurie, passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2005 at Phelps County Memorial Medical Center in Rolla. He was born June 20, 1933 in Laurie, Missouri, the son of William Buster and Eula Elsie Chipley Laurie. He was united in marriage on May 3, 1952 with Merle Ann Silvey, who preceded him in death on July 19, 1978. Jack enjoyed horses, trail riding, and sports involving his sons and grandsons. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church in Laurie. He is survived by three sons, William Laurie and wife Nancy, of Columbia, Bob Laurie and wife Tina, of Fenton, and Barry Laurie and wife Gayle, of Springfield; his mother, Eula Laurie of Laurie; his former wife, Nancy; two sisters, Martha Moulder of Laurie, and Debbie Beeson of Ionia; five grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Marie Brill and Louetta Weinstein, and one granddaughter, Leslie Ann Laurie. Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, November 4, at Ozark Chapel United Methodist Church in Laurie, with Rev. Rick White officiating. Interment will be in Ozark Chapel cemetery. Eleanor May Leffert, age 72, of Versailles, passed away Thursday morning, October 16, 2003 at St. Mary’s Health Center in Jefferson City. She was born October 24, 1930 in St. Louis, Missouri, the daughter of Michael Augustus and Matilda Marie Folger Rantz. She was united in marriage on June 17, 1953 with Oscar H. Leffert, who survives of the home. Mrs. Leffert was a homemaker, and had worked for Southwestern Bell and Montgomery Ward. She was a member of St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Versailles, and was active in the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts for several years. In addition to her husband she is survived by two sons, Kenneth Leffert and wife Joyce, of Versailles, and William Leffert and wife Vickie, of Tipton; one daughter, Patricia Green and husband Kevin, of Versailles; one brother, Robert Rantz of Connecticut; ten grandchildren, one great-grandson, many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 18, at St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Versailles, with Father C.D. “Bo” Ryan officiating. Hazel I. Lehman, age 89, of Cole Camp, Missouri passed away Thursday evening, September 18, 2003 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Cole Camp. She was born August 17, 1914 in Breckenridge, Minnesota, the daughter of John and Anna Harper Madden. She was united in marriage on October 2, 1932 to Dana Lehman who preceded her in death on March 8, 1977. Mrs. Lehman and her husband farmed in Nebraska, Iowa, and Missouri. She is survived by two sons, Richard Lehman and wife, Kelly of Cole Camp, Missouri, Robert Lehman and wife, Barbara of Carl Junction, Missouri; six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, September 21, 2003 at the Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home in Versailles with Philip Hilty officiating. Graveside services and Interment will be at 3:00 P.M. Charles Bernard “Bernie” Lesher, age 67, of Gravois Mills, passed away Saturday, September 6, 2003 at the University of Missouri Hospitals and Clinics in Columbia. He was born February 15, 1936 in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of John Joseph and Stella Marie Marcott Lesher. He graduated from Bishop Ward High School in Kansas City, Kansas. He was retired from General Motors and worked in Kansas City and St. Louis. After moving to the Lake of the Ozarks he was active in various local organizations and the Chamber of Commerce. He is survived by his companion, Neelie Lyman of Versailles; one daughter, Heidi Magana of Lenexa, KS; one son, Timothy M. Lesher of Norton, KS; one brother, Paul Lesher of Kansas City, KS; three sisters, Bettye Jackson of Tulsa, OK, Mary Catherine Keller of Acworth, GA, and Marjorie Looney of Chickasha, OK; 4 grandchildren, many other relatives and friends.
