Michael G. Williams

Michael Guy Williams, 45, Holden, Mo., died Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, from lymphoma.

Mr. Williams was born Oct. 17, 1956. He grew up in Lake Tapawingo and had served in the U.S. Marines. He had recently moved to a small farm in Holden. He was employed at the Pool and Spa in Odessa.

His survivors include his two minor children, Brittany and Dakota Williams; his parents, Joan and Robert Williams; a sister and brother-in-law, Pamela J. and Joseph, and nieces, Gabrielle and Ashley Petrillo, all of Lake Tapawingo; his brother, Patrick B. Williams, nephew, Brian D. Williams, niece, Carolyn Henggler, Kansas City; stepsister, Susan Shearer, Kearney, Mo.; and stepbrothers, Roger and Robert Williams and families of Jackson County.

Memorial services were today at Tri-City Ministries. Burial was in Blue Springs cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs.

Richard A. "Dick" Brady

Richard Allyn "Dick" Brady, 80, Bolivar, Mo., died Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, at his home.

Mr. Brady was born June 30, 1922, in Roundup, Mont., the son of Allen and Louise (Spicer) Brady. He and his family moved to Neodesha, Kan., where he attended and graduated Neodesha High School and later attended Independence Community College. After college, he served with the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, and then the Army National Guard in Neodesha, and was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Wheatland, Mo. He was a welder for Amoco Oil Refinery in Sugar Creek, retiring in 1982. He married Evelyn Lamb on Jan. 28, 1947, who preceded him in death on Dec. 15, 1990. On Nov. 5, 1993, he married Shirley Dixon in Miami, Okla. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Art Brady.

His survivors include his wife, Shirley Brady, of the home; three children, Linda Gentry, Ponca City, Okla., Michael Brady, Cleveland, Tenn., and Pat Johnson and husband, Lorin, Sugar Creek; two stepsons, Mike and David Dixon, both of Bolivar; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Friends are invited to sign Mr. Brady's register book until 5 tonight and from 8 a.m. to noon Thursday at the Loran Fawcett Funeral Home, Neodesha. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Neodesha City cemetery. The family suggests contributions to Citizens Memorial Hospital Hospice, 1500 N. Oakland, Bolivar, Mo. 65613-9988, or may be left at the funeral home.

Robert H. "Ironhead" Cox Sr.

Robert H. "Ironhead" Cox Sr., 74, Independence, died Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, at his home.

Mr. Cox was born April 30, 1928, in Fort Worth, Texas. He attended Central High School in Kansas City and served in the National Guard. He drove a truck for Rock Island Motor Transit for 27 years and was a member of Teamsters Local 41. He drove midget, stock and sprint cars and was a member of the KC Old Timers Racing Association and the KC Midget Racing Association. He was preceded in death by his father, Homer T. Cox.

His survivors include his wife of 47 years, Mary Cox, of the home; two daughters, Donna Hieronymus and husband, James, Edwards, Mo., and Deanna Cox-Cribbs and husband, Emory, Lake City, Fla.; two sons, Steve Cox and fiancé, Carol Woodford, and Robert H. Cox Jr. and wife, Susan, all of Independence; eight grandchildren, Stephanie Jewell, James Coffey Jr., Brandalynn Adkins, Christine Gallaway, Steven Cox Jr., and Scott, Sierra Marie and Taylor Robert Cox; 12 great-grandchildren, Garrett Lindmark, Melissa and Melanie Jewell, Shawncee Adkins, Katlynn Gallaway, Tyler Maxton, Gunner, Cade and Brian Cox, Justin and James F. Coffey III, and William Max Woodford III; his mother, Daisy Cox, and a sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Dr. L. Hupp, all of Blue Springs.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at the Chapel of Memories Funeral Home, Grain Valley. Burial with military honors will be in the Jackson County Veteran's Field of Honor. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.

Moroni A. Hoyt

Moroni A. Hoyt, 81, Independence, died Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Hoyt was born March 21, 1921, in Pisgah, Iowa, the son of Alfred and Martha Hoyt, and moved to Independence after completing his Naval service during World War II. He owned and operated Hoyt's Garage in Independence for more than 54 years. He was preceded in death by a son, Martin Hoyt, a brother, Lawrence Hoyt, and a sister, Margaret Salonimer.

His survivors include his wife of 54 years, Betty Hoyt, of the home; five children, Gayle Griffin, Deborah Lawson, Barbara Hoyt, Jeffry Hoyt and Ashley Hoyt; one sister, Vida Peer; two brothers, Marion Hoyt and Bob Hoyt; 10 grandchildren; and a large extended family.

Cremation. Friends may call from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the George C. Carson and Sons Independence Chapel. A private burial will be held at a later date. Flowers may be sent to the funeral home.

Glenn L. Hughes

Glenn Lee Hughes, 70, Independence, died Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, at his home.

Mr. Hughes was born March 6, 1932, in Fort Scott, Kan., the son of Everett and Bina Hughes. He lived in Kansas until moving to Grand River, Iowa, at the age of nine. He was baptized into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at the age of 9 in a pond in Lamoni, Iowa, and was currently a member of Church of Jesus Restored 1830. He attended high school in Lamoni and attended Graceland College in Lamoni for one year before enlisting in the Navy. He was honorably discharged in 1953. He returned home to run his father's farm until his mother sold it. After learning the trucking business, eight years later, he and his family were farming their own 360-acre livestock and grain farm near Leon, Iowa, which they farmed for 10 years. He sold the farm and studied and prepared himself for an agricultural consulting position with Brookside Farms Laboratory in New Knoxville, Ohio, and became a consultant in Iowa. After 14 years in this position, he moved his family to Independence and returned to the trucking business until his retirement in 2000. He held priesthood from the mid-1960s to the present, and at the time of his death, he was a Seventy. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

His survivors include his wife, Catherine Hughes; a daughter, Connie Madison and husband, Larry, and their children, Nathan, Davin and Kristin; two daughters, Julie Hughes and Sharon Strippelman and husband, and their son, Kyle; a son, Jon Hughes and wife, Jennifer, and their children, Emily and Spencer; a stepdaughter, Deborah Anderson and husband, Bob, and their children, Stephanie, Jason and Rachel; a stepson, Steven Loman and his son, Kristopher; a sister, Jennie Jenkins and husband, John; a brother, Hollie Hughes and wife, Nita; two step great-grandchildren; five nieces; and one nephew.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, Independence. Burial will be in Lobb cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to Hospice Care of the Northland.

Margaret L. Meredith

Margaret Louise Meredith, 91, Independence, died Monday, Aug. 12, 2002, at the Rosewood Health Center at The Groves in Independence.

Miss Meredith was born Oct. 28, 1910, in Humansville, Mo., the daughter of S. Lucian and Margaret (Weaver) Meredith. She received a bachelor's degree in education and business from Southwest Missouri State University and a master's degree from the University of Missouri in speech and drama. She also did post-graduate work at Northwestern and the universities of Denver, Minnesota and Arizona. She started her teaching career in Roscoe, Mo., where she taught business subjects and coached girls basketball, then in Humansville. She also held teaching positions in Summersville and West Plains. In 1945, she was hired by the Independence School District for a position at William Chrisman High School, where she was to teach speech and coach debate. She retired from Chrisman in 1976 after 31 years of service. In 1999, the little theater at Chrisman was named the Margaret Meredith Little Theater. She was a nationally recognized authority in high school forensics. Her students went to the national tournament 28 times out of 31 yearly tournaments. They won first place twice and as a result, she was named to the National Forensic Hall of Fame. After her retirement, she taught at the Truman Campus of the University of Missouri for eight years. She also worked part-time at Scandinavia Place on the Independence Square and volunteered at Bingham-Waggoner Estate. She remained active in retirement, holding memberships in the University Women, University Book Club, Retired Teacher's Association, Community Association for the Arts, Jackson County Historical Society, Mary Paxton Study Club and the Saturday Club. She was an avid bridge player and belonged to several bridge clubs. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Independence and the Fellowship Sunday school class. She remained in her home on Delaware Street in Independence until moving to The Groves in 2001. She was proud of the fact that Harry Truman referred to her as the second Margaret on Delaware.

Her survivors include several extended family members including Wayne Bear of Independence; as well as a host of friends and former students.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel, Independence. Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Humansville City cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to NorthCare Hospice, 2900 Clay Edwards Drive, North Kansas City, Mo. 64116.

Ada B. Twenter

Ada Berniece Wesselman Twenter, 63, Moberly, Mo., died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, at University Hospital in Columbia, Mo.

Mrs. Twenter was born March 8, 1939, in Fayette, Mo., the daughter of the late Elmer and Gertrude (Stoecklein) Wesselman. She married Melvin Twenter on Nov. 28, 1959, in Martinsville. She was a retired executive director of North Central Missouri Safety Council and a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Moberly. She was a member of Safe Drivers and Mother's Against Drunk Drivers (MADD), she lost her son, Jeffrey Alan Twenter, to a drunken driver on Sept. 2, 1995. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Clara Frances "Fran" Wesselman Hughey.

Her survivors include her husband, Melvin Twenter, Moberly; a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Tony Snodgrass, Moberly; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Pamela Twenter, Independence, and Kevin Twenter, Moberly; seven grandchildren, Dana and Kelly Snodgrass, and Joshua, Christopher, Rachel, Nicholas and Clara Twenter; two sisters, Mary Ruth Warpinski, Denmark, Wis., and Ethel Rose Mileski, Green Bay, Wis., and nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery, Moberly. Friends may call from 5 to 9 tonight Cater Funeral Home, Moberly, with a scripture service at 8:30 p.m.

Robert H. Webb

Robert H. Webb, 74, Largo, Fla., formerly of Independence, died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, in Largo.

Mr. Webb was born in Decatur, Mich., and lived in Independence before moving to Largo in 1998. He was an instructor for Sullivan Trade School in Kansas City and an auto mechanic for L&K Garage in Independence. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church and a Navy veteran of the Korean War, retiring after 23 years of service. He was a member of Fleet Reserve Association 109, Dunedin, Fla., and was active in square dancing.

His survivors include his wife, Frances T. Webb; one son, Dale Webb, Largo; one daughter, Gail Ann Cianciolo, Independence; a brother, Richard Webb, Mintone, Ind.; a sister, Susan Stough, Plymouth, Ind.; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial services will held at 3 p.m. Friday at the Moss-Feaster Serenity Gardens Chapel, Largo.

Barbara A. Bolen

Barbara Ann Bolen, 52, Independence, died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2002, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Bolen was born March 20, 1950, in Independence and had lived in this area most of her life.

Her survivors include her husband, Pete Bolen, of the home; one son, Michael Scott, Gladstone; two daughters, Michelle Foxworth, Gladstone, and Angela Lusby, Kansas City; three brothers, Dennis Scott, Pittsburg, Kan., Ernie Scott, Liberty, and Rick Scott, St. Louis; three sisters, Fran Vaughn, Pittsburg, Ruby Johnson, Sand Springs, Okla., and Sue Steele, Independence; her parents, Ernest and Wiynemia Scott, Kansas City; and 12 grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Green Lawn cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Park Lawn Funeral Home.

Joseph Nephi "Joe" Clark

Joseph Nephi "Joe" Clark, 63, Independence, died Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Clark was born Nov. 2, 1938, in Independence to John George Clark and Sadie Mae (Olinger) Clark. After high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force. Following his USAF duty, he married Ruth M. Morrison on June 24, 1960. He had been employed in parts sales at Midway Ford Truck Center, retiring after 35 years of service. He was an elder with the RLDS church and had pastored for six years. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Stanley Clark; and a sister, Gladys Irby.

His survivors include his wife of 42 years, Ruth Clark of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and James Jenkins, Independence; three brothers, Fred Clark, Independence, James Clark, Sibley, and Robert Clark, Cameron, Mo.; three sisters, Elsie VanGordon, Raytown, Lucile Kill, Overland Park, Kan., and Clara Miller, Independence; two grandchildren; Candace Corsello and her husband, Joshua, and Tony Jenkins; and a great-granddaughter, Alexis Corsello.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Eden Heights RLDS East Sea at Saville, Independence. Friends may call one hour prior to service time at the church. The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to Eden Heights Needy Family Fund at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Mount Washington Forever Funeral Home.

John C. Dieckhoff

John Carl Dieckhoff, 95, Concordia, Mo., died Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, at Lutheran Nursing Home, Concordia.

Mr. Dieckhoff was born Jan. 27, 1907, in Alma, Mo., to Fred C. Dieckhoff and Anna Bushman. He married Esther Sander on Feb. 16, 1936, in Freedom, Mo. He was a member of the Lutheran Church. He had been a farmer until 1960.

His survivors include two sons, Jerry Dieckhoff, Kingsville, Mo., and Robert Dieckhoff, Independence; a daughter, Barbara Hagen, Excelsior Springs, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Helen Dieckhoff, Concordia; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Alma, Mo. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the Wiegers Funeral Home, Higginsville, Mo. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Trinity Lutheran School Building Fund or to the Lutheran Good Shepherd Home.

Lydia Eastburn

Lydia Ihrig Eastburn, 90, Kansas City, died Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, at Carmel Hills Living Center.

Mrs. Eastburn was born March 11, 1912, in Avery, Mo., the daughter of Joseph and Emma (Reno) Ihrig. She retired from Lake City Army Ammunition Plant as an ammunition inspector, and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1219 Auxiliary and The Brethren Church.

Her survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald K. and Erin Eastburn, Lake Lotawana; a sister, Minnie Whittlesey, Kansas City; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Memorial Park at Park Lawn, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the George C. Carson and Sons Independence Chapel.

Coby B. Foster

Coby Bryant Foster, infant son of Brian "Scott" and Dana (Wolgamott) Foster of Kansas City, died Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2002.

His survivors also include his big brother, Jacob Foster of the home; grandparents, Fred and Karen Foster, Oak Grove, and Ronnie and Mary Wolgamott, Blue Springs; great-grandparents, Louise White, Blue Springs; Carl Foster, Grain Valley, Wilma Miller, Blue Springs; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

Private graveside services will be Thursday at Blue Springs cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the D.W. Newcomer's Sons Blue Springs Chapel.

Fred Havrila

Fred Havrila, 82, Odessa, died Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, at his home.

Mr. Havrila was born Aug. 19, 1920, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Michael Havrila and Victoria Wojtowicz. He married Mildred Ruth Mitchell on Jan. 18, 1947, in Chicago. He was a printing press operator for Bond Brothers Printing in Chicago and retired in 1979. He was a member of the Graphic Communication International Union. He graduated from Lane Tech High School in Chicago. He belonged to the Odessa VFW Post 5675. He was a member of St. George's Catholic Church in Odessa. He was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey J. Havrila on Feb. 12, 1976; a brother and four sisters.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Ralph O. Jones Chapel. Cremation. Military services will be performed by the Odessa Military Honors Post 5675. Friends may call from 10 a.m. Saturday until service time. Memorial contributions may be made to Odyssey Hospice.

Loretta M. Hensley

Loretta Marie Hensley, 81, Independence, died Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, at Independence Regional Health Center.

Her survivors include her husband of 61 years, John A. Hensley, of the home; and a son, John D. Hensley, Independence.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Independence. Burial will be in Mount Washington Forever cemetery in Independence. Arrangements are under the direction of the George C. Carson and Sons Independence Chapel.

Donna R. Miller

Donna Ruth Miller, 66, Independence, died Monday, Aug. 26, 2002, at her home.

Mrs. Miller was born June 4, 1936, in Denver, Colo., to Burke Edgar and Mary Elizabeth (Bruch) Nolan. She was an elementary school teacher for 29 years until her retirement in 1994. She was a graduate of Graceland University and Greely University with a master's degree in elementary education. She was a member of the California Teachers Association, the NEA, CEA, the Church of Jesus Christ Fairview Restoration Branch and the Women's council for the church as well as church organist. She was married to Dwain Miller in 1958.

Her survivors include his husband, Dwain Miller; three daughters, Beth E. Stiremen, San Luis Obispo, Calif., Gail K. Frizzell, Independence, and Ruth Anne Norman, Bates City; a son, Dale D. Miller of the home; two sisters, Yvonne Woodward, El Lago, Texas, and Alice Mulkey, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and 13 grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the South Crysler Restoration Branch Church on Salisbury Road, Independence. Private burial will be in Lobb cemetery. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. Saturday to service time at the church. Memorials should be sent to Hope Christian School, 2425 S. Crysler, Independence, Mo. 64052, or to Family Outreach, P.O. Box 22, Independence, Mo., 64051. Friends also may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. There will be an open house from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Miller home.
