DARRELL L. PARKS
Darrell Lee Parks, 66, Independence, died Thursday, July 16, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.
Mr. Parks was born Oct. 25, 1931 in Lexington, Neb. He served in the U.S. Navy. He worked as a custodian for Fairmount Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Park, of the home; two sons, Jeff Parks, Malden, Ill., and Jon Parks, Harrison, Arks.; two daughters, Mickie Kniffen, Grandview, and Mary Coldsnow, Raytown; four brothers, Leslie Parks, Austin, Texas, Dale Parks and Glen Parks, Independence, and Lanny Parks, Sweet Springs, Mo.; three sisters, Elaine Kenney and Kathy McMullin, Independence, and Beulah Dryer, Lee`s Summit; 12 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
No funeral services are scheduled at this time.
CARL M. PAUL
Carl M. Paul, 68, Independence, died Wednesday, July 15, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.
Mr. Paul was born June 24, 1930, in Independence, and was a lifelong resident. He managed truck stops in the metropolitan area for several years and after his retirement worked at his son`s business, G.P.`s Pool and Game Center. He was a member of the Slover Park R.L.D.S congregation.
His survivors include his wife, Martha Paul of the home, two sons, Gary Paul and Dennis Paul, two daughters, Debbie Montavy and Carla Paul, one stepdaughter, Nikki Peterson, one sister, Joan Paul Bland, and one grandson, Shaun "Milo" Montavy, all of Independence.
Services will be 2 p.m. today at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel; cremation. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. today at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Lung Association.
HELEN M. SCHULLER
Helen M. Schuller, 89, Blue Springs, died Friday, July 17, 1989, at St. Mary`s Hospital.
She was born November 29, 1908, in Jefferson City, Mo. She was a clerk.
Survivors include one niece, Sue Bruckner, Blue Springs.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Lalande Catholic Church. Visitation is 10 a.m. Tuesday until the service begins. Graveside services are 11 a.m. Wednesday in Gethsemane cemetery.
THELMA L. SMITH
Thelma Louise Smith, 75, Holden, Mo., died Friday, July 17, 1998, at her home.
She was born November 29, 1922, in Grain Valley. She worked as an assembly worker.
Survivors include one daughter, Kathy Marshall, Holden, Mo.; one sister, Freda Castor, Border, Texas; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services are 6 p.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church in Holden, Mo. A dinner beginning at 5 p.m. is scheduled before the service at the church.
CHARLES K. WEATHERFORD
Charles K. "Jack" Weatherford, 81, Independence, died Thursday, July 16, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.
Mr. Weatherford was born Sept. 15, 1916. He graduated from William Chrisman High School and the Kansas City College of Commerce. He retired in 1979 from the mortgage loan department of Prudential Insurance. He was a member of the Independence First Methodist Church and a good Samaritan and volunteered for many community organizations. He was a member of the Knife and Fork Club. He served 39 months in the western Pacific as a staff sergeant combat engineer in the 27th Division during World War II.
Survivors include one brother, Robert P. Weatherford, Jr., Tuscson, Ariz., and three nieces.
Services are 10 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church. Burial is in Woodlawn cemetery.
Visitation is 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the D.W. Newcomer Sons Funeral Home.
NANCY S. WILLIAMS-FERLET
Nancy S. Williams-Ferlet, 68, Independence, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1998, at Research Medical Center.
Mrs. Ferlet was born June 12, 1930, in Kansas City. She was a member of T.O.P.S. and the Northeast High School alumni. She was a former president of the Raytown C2 PTA.
Her survivors include her husband, Robert E. Ferlet of the home; a son, Jon W. Ferlet, Independence; a daughter and son-in-law, Kerrie L. Ferlet-Hearne and Kenneth Hearne Jr., Independence; and three granddaughters, Jamie Ferlet, and Sarrah and Lauren Hearne.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Floral Hills East cemetery, Lee's Susmmit. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Shriner's Crippled Children's Fund.
RUSSELL LUTHER GREEN
Russell Luther Green, 90, Pleasant Hill, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 1998, in the Pleasant Hill Health Care Center.
He was born Nov. 20, 1908, in Blue Springs.
He was a member of the Holden (Mo.) Methodist Church.
Mr. Green is survived by his wife, Gertrude Green; daughters Jane Robertson and Janest Schryer; sister Gladys Dove; five grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services are set for noon Saturday at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, with burial to follow in the Blue Springs cemetery. Visitation will be 11 a.m to noon Saturday at the funeral home.
ALYCE L. ADAMS
Alyce L. Adams, 62, Kansas City, died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at Regency Care Center.
Mrs. Adams was a member and past matron of Eastern Star of Lee's Summit. She was also a member of the American Business Women's Association and the Coventry Estates Baptist Church. She was employed for a number of years with the Jackson County Prosecutor's Office. She then worked as an office manager for her son's business, Hickman Tow and Auto of Blue Springs and Grain Valley.
Her survivors include her mother, Alyce Mustain, Independence; a son, Paul Adams, Grain Valley; two brothers, Ronald Mustain, Grove, Okla., and Don Mustain, Boca Raton, Fla.; and nieces and nephews.
Services were today at the Coventry Estates Baptist Church, 17133 East 39th St., Independence, Mo. Burial was in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to the church.
FRIEDA M. SAYERS
Frieda M. Sayers, 88, Independence, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at the Crescent Health Care Center, Oak Grove.
Mrs. Sayers was born Oct. 20, 1910, in Linn County, Mo. She had lived in this area since 1941. She was a charter member of the Calvary Baptist Church, having attended there for 46 years. She was active in the Christian Women's Club, and had taught Sunday school for more than 40 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Virgil Sayers in 1997.
Her survivors include her children, Delores M. Sciolaro, Grain Valley, and Stanley D. Sayers, Oak Grove; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church, Independence. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Speaks Suburban Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the church, 1915 N. Liberty, Independence, Mo. 64050.
PAULETTE J. STEFANCIK
Paulette Jean Stefancik, 41, Independence, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at Citadel Health Care Center, St. Joseph, Mo.
Ms. Stefancik was born Jan. 13, 1958, in Independence.
Her survivors include her mother, Deloris Davison; sisters, Susan Greenway and Mary Smith, all of Chillicothe, Mo.; a sister, Carol Smith, brother, John Stefancik and uncle, Mike Stefancik Sr., all of Independence; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Woodlawn cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.
EDNA B. TWENTE
Edna B. Twente, 87, Higginsville, Mo., died Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999, at Lafayette Regional Health Center, Lexington, Mo.
Mrs. Twente was born April 29, 1911, in Wellington, Mo., and had lived most of her life in the Levasy, Mo., area until she moved to Higginsville in 1981. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Salem United Church of Christ Church and its women's fellowship. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otto William Twente on April 24, 1980.
Her survivors include a son, Philip W. Twente, Los Angeles; a daughter, Carol Lyon, Independence; two brothers, Fred J. Brune, Joplin, Mo., and Ervin B. Brune, Independence; a sister, Freda Dobler, Independence; nine grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Salem United Church of Christ, Higginsville; cremation. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the church. The family suggests memorial contributions to the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hoefer Funeral Home, Higginsville.
RONALD R. BARBER
Ronald R. Barber, 55, Oak Grove, died Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999, at St. Mary's Hospital of Blue Springs.
Mr. Barber was born Aug. 13, 1943, near Napoleon, Mo., and had lived in this area all of his life. He had worked for the Jackson County Road Department and was a Vietnam War veteran. He was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses.
His survivors include his wife, Connie J. Barber of the home; his mother, Kathryn V. Barber, Oak Grove; two sisters, Joy M. Cranke, Bates City, and Kathryn F. Striley, Independence; and two brothers, Robert L. Barber, Bates City, and Donald E. Barber, Oak Grove.
Services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Royer's Funeral Home in Oak Grove. Burial will be in the Oak Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
DONALD L. KLEEMAN
Donald L. Kleeman, 69, Independence, died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at the VA Medical Center in Kansas City.
Mr. Kleeman was born in Freistatt, Mo., and had lived in the Kansas City area since 1946. He was an Army veteran and was a life member of Ernestine Schuman-Heink Chapter of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of the Korean War Veterans Association and St. Lukes United Church of Christ in Independence.
His survivors include three sons, Bill Kleeman, Independence, Mark Kleeman and Ron Kleeman, both of Kearney, Mo.; three daughters, Tina Knabe, Independence, Pam Hoffman, Houston, Texas, and Cindy Rosa, Grand Forks, N.D.; a sister, Dorothy Van Hoy, Independence; and eight grandchildren.
Services and a DAV service were Sunday at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Graveside services were today at Zion Memorial cemetery, Mount Vernon, Mo. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.
MAXINE MASON
Maxine Mason, 78, Lake Lotawana, died Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999, at the Lee's Summit Hospital.
Mrs. Mason was born April 23, 1920, in Grundy County, Mo. She was a member of the Unpredictable African Violet Society and the New Liberty Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert U. Mason, and a grandson, Kip Kennard.
Her survivors include two daughters, Nancy Kennard, Lake Lotawana, and Meredith Hahn, Cameron, Mo.; three brothers, Harold Sherrow, Long Island, N.Y., Eugene Sherrow, Jupiter, Fla., and Donald Sherrow, Raytown; six grandchildren; two step grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and 11 step great-grandchildren.
Services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Langsford Funeral Home, Lee's Summit. Burial will be in Floral Hills East cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the New Liberty Baptist Church, Oak Grove.
JUDITH "JUDY" MC KINNEY
Judith "Judy" Jones McKinney, 56, Independence, died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999, at Research Medical Center in Kansas City.
Mrs. McKinney was born Dec. 5, 1942, in Independence, and had lived in this area most of her life.
Her survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Durese and Jeff Nelson, Climax Springs, Mo., and Elizabeth Mason, Gladstone, Mo.; three brothers, Gerald McKinney, Sugar Creek, Paul McKinney, Trabucdi Canyon, Calif., and Doug McKinney, Ridgedale, Mo.; two sisters, Karolyn Elliott, Sugar Creek, and Karla Henderson, Indianapolis, Ind.; and a granddaughter, Shelby.
Services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday at New Salem Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will follow the service. The family suggests memorial contributions to the Multiple Sclerocis, National Society, Mid America Chapter, 5442 Mart Way, Kansas City, Mo. 66205.
