JOSEPHINE M. ROBINSON
Josephine M. Robinson, 84, Blue Springs, died Saturday, March 15, 1997, at the Medical Center of Independence.
Mrs. Robinson was born March 6, 1913, in St. Joseph, Mo., and had lived in Independence most of her life. She worked as a bookkeeper for 47 years for S.S. Kresge on Independence Square, and Kmart. She was a member of the Blue Ridge Methodist Church and the Lydia Circle, the Greater Kansas City Square Dance Club, Queen of Hearts, and she was honorary "Grandma Jo" to the Truman High School girls` volleyball and basketball teams from 1977 to 1983. She did volunteer work for the American Red Cross. She was preceded in death by her husband, Haskell "Robbie" Robinson, her parents, David and Allie Pugh, one sister, Frances Castle, and a nephew, Charles David Castle.
Funeral services will be at 2:30p.m. Tuesday at the George C. Carson and Sons Independence Chapel. Friends maycall from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Red Cross in lieu of flowers.
REMMEL D. BECKHAM
Remmel D. Beckham, 85, Windsor, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Monday, Aug. 4, 1997, at the Clinton (Mo.) Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.
Mr. Beckham was born Nov. 26, 1911, in Mountain View, Ark. He worked for the Time D.C. Truck Lines for 32 years, retiring in 1974. He was a member of the Windsor First Christian Church.
His survivors include his wife, Lurena Fluesmeier Beckham of the home; one stepson, Don Turley, Kansas City; two sons, Ronnie Beckham, Kansas City, and Carl Beckham, South Dakota; three stepdaughters, Betty Smith, Lee`s Summit, Darlene Sallee, Independence, and Charlene Beissenherz, Wellington, Mo.; 18 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Hadley Funeral Home, Windsor. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Luke`s United Church of Christ cemetery, Wellington. Friends may call from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
KENNETH M. MILAM
Kenneth M. Milam, 72, Independence, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 1997, at St. Luke`s Hospital.
Mr. Milam was born April 25, 1925, in Blue Springs, and had lived in this area most of his life. He was a diesel mechanic for P.I.E. Truckline, retiring in 1977, and was a member of Local 778 of the I.A.M. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War, and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6272. He was also a member of Oakland United Methodist Church.
His survivors include his wife, Georgia Milam of the home; two sons, Richard O. Milam, Lee`s Summit, and Brian K. Milam, Kansas City; one brother, Henry Milam, Portola, Calif.; one sister, Lou Oglesby, Poteau, Okla.; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Oakland United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the church.
CARLENE C. OWINGS
Carlene C. Owings, 77, Independence, died Monday, Aug. 4, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Owings was born Aug. 20, 1919, in Independence and was a lifelong area resident. She had been a member of the Englewood RLDS congregation. She as preceded in death by her husband, Harold D. Owings, in 1986.
Her survivors include one son, Larry Owings, Lee`s Summit; one sister, Modena French, and a niece, Teresa French, both of Independence; two grandchildren, Brad Owings and Laurie Owings, both of Shawnee, Kan.; and one great-granddaughter, Amber Owings, Olathe, Kan.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel.
KEVIN J. STANLEY
Kevin Jeffrey Stanley, 18, Blue Springs, died Monday, Aug. 4, 1997, at Children`s Mercy Hospital.
Mr. Stanley was born Jan. 30, 1979, in Kansas City and had lived in Blue Springs all of his life. He attended Special Services in Blue Springs for 17 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Daniel Frank Stanley in 1994, and his paternal grandparents, Mike and Ann Stanley.
His survivors include his mother and stepfather, Janice and Jim Hutsell, and his twin brother, Justin Stanley, all of the home; one other brother, Darren Johnson, Blue Springs; maternal grandparents, Loren and Edra Bybee, Blue Springs; a niece and nephew, and two uncles.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to Special Neighbors.
ERNEST G. BARBER JR.
Ernest G. Barber Jr., 60, Oak Grove, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 1997, at the Lee`s Summit Hospital.
Mr. Barber was born Jan. 13, 1937, in Mayview, Mo. He graduated from Oak Grove High School and William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo. He served two years in the Army. He was employed at the Commerce Trust Bank in Kansas City for 17 years and then at Health and Human Services for 15 years. He was a member of the Southside Christian Center.
His survivors include his mother, Kathryn Barber, Oak Grove; two sisters, Kathryn Striley, Independence, and Joy Cranke, Bates City; and three brothers, Robert Barber, Bates City, and Ronald Barber and Donald Barber, both of Oak Grove.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove. Burial will be in Bates City cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the American Diabetes Association or to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
VERNA K. HAYES
Verna Knapp Hayes, 79, Greene, New York, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 1997.
Mrs. Hayes was born Feb. 19, 1917, in Johnson City, N.Y. She was an accomplished musician, teacher and community leader. She has a master`s degree in anthropology and had been an archaeologist. She was a former director of Tri-County Health and Respiratory Association and co-developer and leader of Life Design seminars. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Her survivors include her husband, Stanley I. Hayes of the home; seven children, Ruth Covelli, Binghamton, N.Y.; Bonnie Yohe, Lincoln, Neb.; Stanley "Bud" Hayes Jr., Ardmore, Okla.; Leilani MacMillan, Seattle, Wash.; Phillip Hayes, Lee`s Summit, Mo.; Larrain Hayes, Chicago; and Karl Hayes, Blue Springs; five brothers, Jack Knapp, Kingsville, Mo.; Henry "Bud" Knapp, Paisley, Fla.; Raymond Knapp, Endicott, N.Y.; Fred Knapp, Buckner; Karl Knapp, Independence; and one sister, Carol Springston, Waverly, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A celebration gathering remembering her life will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Ridgewood-Pleasant Heights Church, 4341 Blue Ridge Boulevard, Kansas City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Graceland College, Lamoni, Iowa.
THOMAS B. LEWIS
Thomas B. Lewis, 88, Harrisonville, Mo., died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 1997, at the Camden Health Care Center in Harrisonville.
Mr. Lewis was born Jan. 25, 1909, in Decatur, Neb., and moved to Independence in 1950 and to Oak Grove in 1971. He worked for 18 years as a machinist for Allis-ChalmersCorp., retiring in 1971. He was a member of the Oak Grove RLDS Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Helen Lewis in 1993.
His survivors include two sons, Stephen B. Lewis, Littleton, Colo., and Thomas E. Lewis, Lone Jack, Mo.; a daughter, Clarice E. Stacker, Odessa; two sisters, Mary Firkins, Sibley, Mo., and Evelyn Curtis, Corpus Christi, Texas; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at the New Salem Funeral Home, Independence. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the New Salem Funeral Home. ROBBIE C. NEWBERRY
Robbie Claudine "Bobbie" Newberry, 86, Blue Springs, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 1997, at St. Mary`s Manor of Blue Springs.
Mrs. Newberry was born in Jackson County, Mo., and had lived in Buckner before moving to Blue Springs two years ago. She owned and operated the Cozy Corner Cafe and Newberry`s Market. She was parade marshal for the Lewis & Clark Trail Days in Buckner. Her husband, John W. Newberry, died in 1971.
Her survivors include two nephews, Bill Hostetter, Blue Springs, and Bob Ames, Buckner; a niece, Janet Mershon, Buckner; great nieces and nephews; great-great-nieces and nephews and one great-great-great-nephew.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Brown Funeral Home, Buckner. Burial will be in Buckner Hill cemetery. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
JERRY W. WEBB
Jerry W. Webb, 44, Olathe, Kan., died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 1997, at his home.
Mr. Webb was born Sept. 11, 1952. He was a quality assurance technician with Bushnell Sports Optics Co. He was a lifelong resident of Sedalia, Mo. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Sedalia, prior to transferring to Crossroads Church of Overland Park, Kan. He was a 1970 graduate of Smith Cotton High School and a 1972 graduate of State Fair Community College, Sedalia. He also attended Central Missouri State University, Warrensburg. His survivors include his wife, Betty Jean Walker Webb, Olathe; his parents, Leslie and Helen Ilene Webb, Sedalia; two sons, Jason Webb and Waylon Webb, both of Blue Springs; three stepsons, Phillip Walker, Raytown, Jason Walker, Higginsville, Mo., and Brandon Walker, Higginsville; two brothers, Michael Webb, Olathe, and Roy Lynn Webb, Warsaw, Mo.; and a half sister, Patty Hickam, Greenwood.
Services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church, Sedalia. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery Mausoleum, Sedalia. Cynthia Irene Martin Elrod, 82, Independence, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Elrod was born Dec. 12, 1914, in Hershel, Saskatchewan, Canada. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Her survivors include her husband, Joseph T. Elrod of the home; a son, Joel D. Elrod, Glenallen, Alaska; a brother, Wesley Martin, Independence; a sister, Viola Leison, McGregor, Minn.; and nephews and nieces.
The body was donated to the University of Kansas Medical Center. A memorial service will be at a later date at the East Independence RLDS Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.
VERNA K. HAYES

Elton John Huenefeld, 82, Lexington, Mo., died Wednesday, Feb. 19, 1997, at his home.
Mr. Huenefeld was born March 2, 1914, in Wellington, Mo., and had lived in Lexington since 1976. He was a retired farmer. He was a member of St. Lukes Church, Wellington, American Association of Retired Persons, Wellington Lions Club, Fraternal Order of Pakiderms, Builders Sunday school class at St. Luke`s Church.
His survivors include his wife, Pauline Huenefeld, Lexington; three daughters, Blanche Merryman, Independence, Ramona Skillman, Lexington, and Beatrice Finkemeier, Lee`s Summit; three sisters, Hulda Dinse, Corder, Mo., Elsie Wieligman and Lydia Kohlstaedt, both of Wellington; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke`s Church, Wellington. Burial will be in St. Luke`s cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the Snow Funeral Home, Wellington. The family suggests contributions to the St. Luke`s Church.
