BETTY J. BEYERS
Betty J. Beyers, 70, Grain Valley, died Thursday, May 14, 1998, in Warsaw, Mo.
Mrs. Beyers was born Nov. 13, 1927, in Independence. She was an avid bowler at the Oak Grove Bowl.
Her survivors include two daughters, Pam Johnson, Lake of the Ozarks, Mo., and Barbara Coleman, Kansas City; a brother, Al Burkhardt, Texas, two grandsons, Sean Coleman and Brian Porter; two granddaughters, Cheri Beyers and Heather Beyers; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 today at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 2 today at the chapel.
PEARL N. FOLSCROFT
Pearl N. Folscroft, 95, Independence, died Thursday, May 14, 1998, at the Medical Center of Independence.
Mrs. Folscroft was born Feb. 8, 1903, in Oak Grove. She was a homemaker and a member of Glenwood Park United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Odd Fellows and The Rebekah`s. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis W. Folscroft in 1955.
Her survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, William "Bill" and Rose Marie Folscroft, Kansas City, and Truman and Betty Folscroft, Independence; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services were today at the Glenwood Park United Methodist Church. Burial was in the Trading Post (Kan.) cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the church.
GRACE O. GIBSON
Grace O. Gibson, 89, Independence, died Saturday, May 16, 1998, at the Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Gibson was born April 3, 1909, in Pattonville, Texas, and had lived in this area since 1954. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Unity Village. She was preceded in death by Edward G. Gibson in 1996.
Her survivors include three daughters, Glenda Carter and Sue Lee, both of Independence, and Anita Rollins, Blue Springs; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 today at the D.W. Newcomer`s Noland Road Chapel. Burial will be in Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 3 today at the chapel.
LAWRENCE A. MARTIN SR.
Lawrence Aubrey Martin Sr., 98, died Saturday, May 16. at the Independence Health Care Center.
Mr. Martin was born Sept. 1, 1899, in Benton County, Mo., and had also lived in Sedalia, Mo., and Kansas City. For nearly 50 years he worked with the Missouri Pacific Railroad in Sedalia and later in Kansas City. He was a member of the Waldo Baptist Church, Independence, and was a founding member of the East Sedalia Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wives, Eva Pirtle, Anna Lewis and Mildred Fleming; and a daughter, Sarah Ellen.
His survivors include a daughter, Emma Fyrn Robb, Independence; a son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence Aubrey Martin Jr. and Dolores Martin; San Antonio, Texas; a sister, Fyrn Martin Hutchinson, Sedalia; six stepchildren, Monty Sheridan, Bob, George, Bill and Jim Fleming, and Betty Fleming Wiley; and four grandchildren, Patti Robb Bass, Susannah Martin McAllister, John Martin and Leta Robb Henning, Grain Valley.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Speaks Midtown Chapel, Independence. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Crown Hill cemetery, Sedalia.
ALLYNE SHEDDRICK
Allyne Sheddrick, 89, Independence, died Sunday, May 17, 1998, at the home of her son in Blue Springs.
Mrs. Sheddrick was born Oct. 31, 1908, in Brooklyn, Mo., and had lived in Metz, Mo., before moving to Independence in 1942. She worked for Montgomery Ward for seven years and retired from Russell Stovers Candies after 27 years of service. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Metz and in Independence. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul R. "Cot" Sheddrick in 1974, and a son, Paul R. Sheddrick Jr. on Sept. 2, 1997.
Her survivors include a son, M. Wayne Sheddrick, Blue Springs; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Sheldon-Booth Funeral Home in Rich Hill, Mo. Friends may call from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs. The family suggests contributions to the Hospice Care of St. Mary`s Hospital.
KATHY J. ATKINSON
Kathy Joan Atkinson, 48, Independence, died Sunday, May 17, 1998, at the Medical Center of Independence.
Ms. Atkinson was born Aug. 30, 1949, in Marshfield, Mo., and moved to Independence 28 years ago. She was the director of radiology for the Medical Center of Independence for the past 28 years, and also the director of radiology for the Lee`s Summit Hospital for the past five years. She was a member of the Marshfield Christian Church.
Her survivors include her parents, Guy and Edith Atkinson, Marshfield; a brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Ann Atkinson, a niece, Lisa Loftis, and a great-niece, Melissa Ann Loftis, all of Republic, Mo.; a nephew, Brad Atkinson, St. Louis; and her maternal grandmother, Altha Lamkins, Houston, Mo.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Marshfield cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel.

FLOYD A. CATES
Floyd Allen Cates, 56, Independence, died Saturday, May 16, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.
Mr. Cates was born Oct. 13, 1941, in Kansas City, and was a lifelong area resident. He was a pipefitter for the Ford Motor Co. and was a member of the United Autos Workers union. He was an avid fisherman and fished for several years in the Shriner`s Bass Tournament at the Lake of the Ozarks to help raise money for children.
His survivors include his wife, Fyrel Cates of the home; two sons, Floyd Allen Cates, Kansas City, and J.G. Cates, Liberty, Mo.; a daughter, Angela Sue Timms, Grandview; a brother, Richard Cates, Raytown; a sister, Joanne Renner, Cleveland, Mo.; and four grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Park Lawn Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Green Lawn cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the chapel.
LOLA A. DALTON
Lola A. Dalton, 76, Independence, died Sunday, May 17, 1998, at the Plaza Manor Care Center.
Mrs. Dalton was born Aug. 9, 1921, in Cole Camp, Mo., and had lived in Independence for 56 years. She was formerly a personal legal secretary. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for 48 years, was active in the women`s association, and was church financial secretary and treasurer for 37 years. She was a member of the Nu Era Study Club and other civic groups.
Her survivors include her husband of 57 years, A.N. "Jack" Dalton of the home; a son, the Rev. N.L. Dalton, Lighthouse Point, Fla.; a daughter, Carolyn Cargyle, Independence; a sister, Mary Soderman, Edgerton, Mo.; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at the church; cremation. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the building fund at the church, 100 N. Pleasant St., Independence, Mo. 64050.
HAZEL M. DAWES
Hazel M. Dawes, 74, Independence, died Sunday, May 17, 1998, at her home.
Mrs. Dawes was born May 28, 1923, in Maryville, Mo., and was a lifelong Independence resident. She was a seamstress in the clothing factory industry for more than 30 years, retiring in 1984.
Her survivors include a son, David Dawes, Independence; three daughters, Sandra Reeder, Independence, Sheila Lyons, Anaheim, Calif., and Shirley Anweiler, Topeka; a brother, Ralph Bratcher, Raytown; two sisters, Mildred Shaw, Maryville, Mo., and Lois Waterworth, Nixa, Mo.; 17 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City. Arrangements are under the direction of D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel.

DOROTHY L. MOORE
Dorothy L. Moore, 84, Independence, died Friday, May 15, 1998, at the Independence Health Care Center.
Mrs. Moore was born Aug. 29, 1913, in Jackson, Mich., lived in the Fairmount area of Independence for 30 years, and then returned to Independence in 1988. She had been a Girl Scout, Boy Scout and Campfire Girls leader. She was a member of the Iris Club, P.T.O., and the League of Decency. She was also a member of St. Ann`s Catholic Church, and the Altar Society and the choir. Her husband, Hubert "Pat" Moore, died in 1987.
Her survivors include seven children, Hubert Tipton Moore Jr., LaPlata, Mo., Joan M. Alexander, Livingston, Texas, Rosalie A. Taylor, Preston, Mo., Rosalyn A. Hays, Lompoc, Calif., Ronald T. Moore, Independence, Pamela A. Adkins, Bonner Springs, Kan., and Christopher P. Moore, Altamonte Springs, Fla.; 30 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Shawnee Mission (Kan.) Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, where the rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. The family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association.
DENNIS E. NOLAND
Dennis Earl Noland, 51, Nixa, Mo., died Friday, May 15, 1998, in Greene County, Mo.
Mr. Noland was born June 2, 1946, in Kansas City, was a lifelong area resident, moving to Nixa in 1987.
His survivors include his wife, Donna Noland of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Angie Noland, Forsyth, Mo.; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Richard Martin, Kansas City; a sister, Sharon Brady, Independence; and five grandchildren, Ashley, Jeremy, Hannah, Elizabeth and Jarett.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Walnut Lawn DeGraffenreid-Wood Funeral Chapel, Springfield, Mo. Burial will be in Patterson cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
THOMAS J. RODGERS
Thomas J. Rodgers, 70, Warsaw, Mo., died Saturday, May 16, 1998, at a hospital in Columbia, Mo.
Mr. Rodgers was born March 28, 1928, in Sedalia, Mo. He retired from the U.S. Engineering, and was a member of Teamsters Local 541. He was a Baptist and past president of the 4 Winds CB Club. He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas J. Rodgers Jr.
His survivors include his wife, Ruth I. Rodgers, and a son, John D. Rodgers, both of Independence; a daughter, Sandra L. Curtin (Howe), Kansas City; a brother, George Rodgers, Sedalia; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a companion, Helen Smith, Warsaw.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sheil Independence Avenue, Kansas City. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel.
