LINDA S. HOUSE
Linda Sue House, 45, Independence, died Friday, July 18, 1997.
Mrs. House was born Jan. 14, 1952, in Independence and was a lifelong Independence resident. She worked in food service at McDonald`s and was a member of the RLDS Stone Church congregation.
Her survivors include two sons, Scott Warren Baird, Independence, and Derek Lloyd House of the home; one daughter, Josie Lee Sembler of the home; her parents, Fred Alan Olson, West Virginia, and Barbara Jo Olson, Independence; one brother, Howard Olson, Independence; two sisters, Karen Shumate, Ottawa, Kan., and Kathy MacDonnell, Olathe, Kan.; and two granddaughters, Samantha Baird and Tabatha Baird. Cremation. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.
JOHN W. LOEWER
John W. Loewer, 62, Blue Springs, formerly of Independence, died Sunday, July 20, 1997, at his home. Mr. Loewer was born April 27, 1935, in Independence and was a lifelong area resident. He was a security guard for United Missouri Bank and a member of Tri-City Baptist Church.
His survivors include his wife, Clara D. "Dee" Loewer of the home; two sons, John M. Loewer, Independence, and Tracy A. Loewer, Edwardsville, Ill.; one daughter, Cindy L. Bailey, Independence; his mother, Lillian Loewer, Versailles, Mo.; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Park Lawn Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Green Lawn cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Kansas City Hospice.
BERENICE L. WERNTZ
Berenice L. Werntz of Topeka, formerly of Independence, died Friday, July 18, 1997, at the Presbyterian Manor.
Mrs. Werntz was born Jan. 14, 1906, in Kansas City, and lived most of her life in Kansas City and Independence before moving to Topeka in 1986. She worked for the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City for 29 years, retiring in 1970. She was a member of St. Paul`s Lutheran Church of Independence and the United Methodist Women. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Werntz, and a daughter, Nancy Lee Guillemot.
Her survivors include three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Floral Hills cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. The family suggests contribution to the church.
BURLINE R. WILLBANKS
Burline R. Willbanks, 69, Independence, died Sunday, July 20, 1997, at St. Joseph Health Center.
Mr. Willbanks was born in Pontiac, Mo., and had lived in this area most of his life. He was a machinist for the Fairbanks-Morse Co. for 39 years, retiring in 1987. He was a charter member and deacon of the Lane Avenue Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 39 years, Polly Willbanks.
His survivors include his wife, Phyllis L. Willbanks of the home; one daughter, Sheila Wade, Overland Park, Kan.; two sons, Randall C. Willbanks, Leawood, Kan., and Karl Hall Koch, Carmel, Ind.; his father, Ted Willbanks, Raytown; two sisters, Veda Wray, Springfield, Mo., and Kathryn Owens, Omaha, Neb.; and his grandchildren, Emily and Kelly Willbanks, Annie Wade, and Dustin and Bailey Koch.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the church.
BENJAMIN A. CRAIG JR.
Benjamin Arnold Craig Jr., 58, Liberty, Mo., died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, at North Kansas City Hospital.
Mr. Craig was born Dec. 10, 1939, in Butler, Mo., and had lived in Liberty for the past six years. He worked on the assembly line for the Chevrolet Division of the Leeds Manufacturing Plant in Kansas City.
His survivors include two sisters, Brenda Thompson, Blue Springs, and Cindy Kesbey, Independence.
Graveside memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Oak Hill cemetery, Butler; cremation. Arrangements are under the direction of the Schowengerdt Funeral Chapel, Butler.
WILLIAM J. ENGLAND
William Jean England, 66, Chandler, Ariz., formerly of Independence, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, in Chandler.
Mr. England was born in Independence.
His survivors include his wife, Vanessa L. England, and one son, William Scott England, both of Chandler; two sisters, Helen Williams, Versailles, Mo., and Anna Marie England, Independence.
Arrangements were under the direction of Bueler Mortuary, Chandler.
MICHAEL C.L. FIELDS
Michael Cecil Lee Fields, 35, California, Mo., died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital in Jefferson City, Mo.
Mr. Fields was born Nov. 25, 1962, in Kansas City. He was a truck driver.
His survivors include his wife, Anita Cristine Wolf Fields, California, Mo.; one son, Dallas; his mother, Geseine Fields, and one brother, William J. Fields, both of Braymer.
Services will be 3 p.m. Friday at the Braymer Baptist Church. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery, Braymer. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the Pitts Funeral home, Braymer. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Association.
ROBERT E. HINKLE
Robert E. Hinkle, 55, El Dorado Springs, Mo., formerly of Blue Springs, died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at Citizens Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Hinkle was born Oct. 27, 1942, in Kansas City, and had lived in Blue Springs for 18 years. He had been a security officer on the Plaza prior to working for Parklane Medical Center security. He was a former vice president of H&H Warehouse and had been a detective for the Raytown Police Department.
His survivors include his wife, Randy Kay Hinkle, Independence; one son, William Robert Hinkle, Osceola, Mo.; one daughter, Dani Schmill, Belton, Mo.; one stepson, Chris Mulkey, Independence; three stepdaughters, Nancy Francis, Independence, Timi Laggner, Smithfield, Va., and Jane Stone, Blue Springs; his mother, Pauline Hinkle, Weaubleau, Mo.; two sisters, Kathy Foster, Weaubleau, and Gerry Townsend, Columbia, Mo.; 17 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Sheil Colonial Chapel, Raytown. Intombment will be in the Mount Olivet cemetery Mausoleum, Raytown. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the chapel.
H. KATHLEEN HOUK
H. Kathleen Houk, 71, Independence, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at the Rosewood Health Center.
Mrs. Houk was born Nov. 29, 1926, in Independence. She returned to this area in 1990. During World War II, she sold War Bonds in record numbers. She was an active Cub Scout den leader, piano teacher, Avon representative, and a Garden Club president. She was also a volunteer at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center. She taught Sunday school for many years, and was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, attending the Stone Church congregation, where she served as hospitality host. She attended school in Independence.
Her survivors include her husband, Charles Houk of the home; three sons, David Houk, Vacaville, Calif., John Houk, Reno, Nev., and Paul Houk, Dayton, Ohio; one brother, Homer Frank Hiles, Climax Springs, Mo.; three grandchildren, Daniel Houk, Matthew Houk and Cathleen Houk; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Stone Church; cremation. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Stone Church Endowment Fund or the RLDS Temple Endowment Fund. Arrangements are under the direction of the Speaks Midtown Chapel.
CHARLES R. PEGRAM
Charles Raymond Pegram, 62, Independence, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.
Mr. Pegram was born Feb. 7, 1935, in Kankakee, Ill., and had lived in Independence most of his life. He was a tax accountant for the Internal Revenue Service for 11 years, retiring in 1994. He was an Army veteran.
His survivors include his wife, Loretta L. Pegram of the home;one daughter, Catherine Ann Pegram, Bangor, Maine; one son, Charles Michael Pegram, Rock Island, Ill.; his mother, Mildred Pegram, Lee`s Summit; and one sister, Shirley Erickson, Arvada, Colo.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the chapel.
LOUIS N. "DEAN" WHITEHEAD
Louise N. "Dean" Whitehead, 76, Independence, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.
Mr. Whitehead was born in Logan, Iowa, and lived in Warrensburg, Mo., before moving to Independence. He was a school counselor for the Kansas City School District, retiring in 1983. He attended Graceland College, University of Iowa, University of Wyoming, Central Missouri State University, University of Colorado, University of Missouri-Kansas City and the University of Missouri-Columbia. He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where he had been on the Standing High Council for 19 years. He had also been a pastor at the Eden Heights, Englewood and Enoch Hills congregations. He was presently an evangelist patriarch and attended the Cornerstone congregation. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
His survivors include his wife, Elma "Deanie" Whitehead of the home; one daughter, Vicky Cain, Kansas City; one brother, Harold Eldon Whitehead, Independence; and four grandchildren, Sara Cain, Emily Cain, Bradley Cain and Bethany Cain, all of Kansas City.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel. Entombment will be in the Mound Grove cemetery Mausoleum. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the RLDS Cornerstone Church building fund.
MARC W. DOMVILLE
Marc William Domville, 38, Independence, died Wednesday, Feb. 5, 1997, at Trinity Lutheran Hospital. He was the grandson of Ruth Townley, Oak Grove.
Mr. Domville was born March 7, 1958, in Kansas City. He was a 1976 graduate of Truman High School. He was an Eagle Scout from Boy Scout Troop 228 in Independence. He was also a member of the Tribe of Mic-o-Say.
His survivors include his parents, Patrick and Patricia Domville of the home; two brothers, Matthew Domville of the home and Michael Domville, Roach, Mo.; and nieces and nephews.
His body was donated to the University of Kansas Medical Center for Diabetic Research. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Newcomer`s Sons Blue Springs Chapel. Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Diabetes Association.
VIRGINIA DRAKE
Virginia Drake, 91, Oak Grove, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 1997, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.
Mrs. Drake was born in Kiowa, Colo., in 1905 and had lived in the Kansas City area until moving to San Antonio, Texas, in 1969. She returned to the Kansas City area in January 1997. Shehad been a seamstress for the Lee Mendel Co., Kansas City, for 13 years, retiring in 1969. She was a Methodist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Drake in 1963 and two sons, Donald in 1933 and Wayne in 1984.
Her survivors include three sons, Thomas Lee Drake, Broken Bow, Okla., James Michael Drake, San Antonio, and Edward Drake, Independence; three daughters, Betty Jean Willey, Shallowater, Texas, Mary Virginia Hearn, Donna, Texas, and Muriel Titus, Charlotte, N.C.; a brother, Dr. Francis James, Cerritos, Calif.; 19 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Memorial Lawn cemetery, Emporia, Kan. Arrangements are under the direction of the Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove.
JUANITA J. GRINER
Juanita J. Griner, 85, Independence, died Tuesday, Feb. 11, 1997, at the Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Griner was born April 22, 1911, in Stewartsville, Mo., and had lived most of her life in Van Nuys, Calif., before moving to Independence four years ago. She was an accounting clerk for the May Co. in California for 20 years, retiring in 1970. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Griner in 1971, two sons, Richard Paul Griner in 1952 and David Griner Sr. in 1992.
Her survivors include a son, Ronald Griner, Lee`s Summit; two grandsons, David Griner Jr., Blue Springs, and Tim Griner, Lee`s Summit; and two great-granddaughters, Stephanie and Rachel Griner.
Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the chapel.
KEN L. SEE
Ken Lloyd See, 49, died Monday, Feb. 10, 1997, Kansas City, at his home. He was the brother of Jeffery See, Blue Springs.
Mr. See was born March 4, 1947, in Kansas City, and had lived in Independence most of his life. He attended Central Missouri State University, Warrensburg, and later was in the restaurant business there. He moved to Kansas City and worked at the Westin Crown Center and Adam`s Mark Hotel. He was employed by Culinary Concepts Ltd., in the marketing department. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church.
His survivors also include his companion, J.B. Greer; his parents, Don and Beverly See, Independence; two other brothers, Leslie See, Parkville, Mo., and Bradley See, Independence; and caregiver, Sherry Harms.
Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at McGilley Midtown Chapel; cremation. The family suggests contributions to the Good Samaritan Project.
FLO D. WILLIAMSON
Flo Dimple Williamson, 86, Grandview, Mo., died Monday, Feb. 10, 1997, at the Grandview Manor Care Center.
Mrs. Williamson was born July 22, 1910, in Collins, Mo., and had lived in Independence for 63 years before moving to Grandview 44 years ago.She worked in the food service department of the Kansas City School District for 12 years, retiring in 1972. She was a member of Maywood Baptist Church. Her husband, Vivian Williamson, died Nov. 5, 1992.
Her survivors include a daughter, Jane Pierce, Blue Springs; a sister, Julia Phipps, Shawnee, Kan.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Services will be 9:30 a.m. Friday at Carson Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Girl Scouts of America.
