NORMAN R. BOGART
Norman R. Bogart, 90, Buckner, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 1997, at John Knox Village Care Center in Lee`s Summit.
Mr. Bogart was born Sept. 16, 1906, in Jackson County, Mo. He had been a partner in the Nor-Don Burial Vault Co. in Springfield, Mo., for the past 25 years. He was a 50-year member of the Buckner Masonic Lodge and sold the land to Jackson County for the Fort Osage construction project.
His survivors include four sons, James Bogart, John Bogart, Robert Bogart and Jerry Bogart; a daughter, Mary Jane Taylor; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Masonic services will be 7:30p.m. Monday at the Langsford Chapel, Lee`s Summit. Friends may call from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Western Division Masonic Home, 12101 E. Bannister Road, Kansas City, Mo. 64138.
JEMMA L. GRIMME
Jemma L. Douglas Grimme, 97, Independence, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Grimme was born Feb. 18, 1900, in Adrian, Mo., and had lived in Independence most of her life. She was a waitress for area restaurants for 50 years and was a member of St. Mark`s United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry L. Grimme Sr. in 1979, and a son, George Douglas, killed at Pearl Harbor in 1941.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Woodlawn cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Newcomer`s Noland Road Chapel.
WAYNE N. HOLMES
Wayne Norris Holmes, 70, Loveland, Colo., formerly of Independence, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 1997, at the McKee Medical Center in Loveland.
Mr. Holmes was born May 18, 1926, in Kellogg, Idaho, and had lived most of his life in Independence, Lawrence, Kan., and Lee`s Summit before moving to Loveland in 1987. He worked in heating and air conditioning and laterin electrical machine design for AT&T Telecommunications. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and was an elder in the Loveland RLDS congregation.
His survivors include his wife, Bernie Holmes of the home; three sons, Alan Holmes of the home, Gary Holmes, Lee`s Summit, and Randall Holmes, Auburn, Ala.; five brothers, Waldon Norris, Claude Norris, Gerald Norris, Donald Norris and Reed Holmes; four sisters, Lorraine Yeubanks, Lois Brewster, Donna Sintz and Janice Fountain; and six grandchildren.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel. Burial will be in Lawrence (Kan.) Memorial Park. The family suggests contributions to the McKee Medical Center Foundation, P.O. Box 830, Loveland, Colo. 80539-0830.
HUBERT C. KING
Hubert Carter King, 81, Raytown, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 1997, in Raytown.
Mr. King was born Aug. 7, 1915, in Grain Valley and was a lifelong Blue Springs and Grain Valley resident. He worked for Allis Chalmers for 21 years, retiring in 1977. He was a member of Greenwood (Mo.) Baptist Church, a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post 499.
His survivors include his wife, Mary E. Lowe King of the home; a son, Wayne King, Blue Springs; two daughters, Betty Sue Brocklebank, Liberty, Mo., and Martha M. King, Grandview; a sister, Viola Conwell, Independence; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs. Burial will be in Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Kansas City Hospice.
OMAR L. NUNN
Omar LeRoy Nunn, 74, Independence, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 1997, at Rosewood Care Center.
Mr. Nunn was born Oct. 11, 1922, in Independence, where he lived most of his life. He was a production manager with Herald House for 25 years, retiring in 1987. He was an Army Air Force veteran of World War II and an elder in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
His survivors include his wife, Ruth M. Nunn of the home; three sons, Thomas Royal Nunn, Independence, David Lynn Nunn, Frankfort, Ind., and Mark Edward Nunn, Columbia, Mo.; three daughters, Shirley Jean Bulen, Blue Springs, Kathryn Ann Hamrick and SherriLee Henson, both of Independence; a brother, James W. Nunn, Raytown; two sisters, Dellamae Nunn-Cox, Independence, and Ramona Wingate, Mesa, Ariz.; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Friday at the Restoration Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Old Second Church), South Avenue and Delaware Street. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery.
NICHOLAS A.G. PARDEE
Nichola Alexander Garold Pardee, infant son of James P. Pardee and Clarisa Pitts of Independence, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 1997, at Truman Medical Center East.
His survivors also include a brother, James Patrick Pardee II, and his paternal grandparents, James M. and Ann Joy Pardee, all of Independence; paternal great-grandmother, Stella J. Millard, Carrollton, Mo.; maternal grandmother, Lois Jean Pitts, and his maternal great-grandparents, Gene and Darline Dixon and Elgie and Willie A. Long, all of Independence.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Washington cemetery. The family suggests contributions to your favorite charity. Arrangements are under the direction of Speaks Suburban Chapel.
RAY PARISH JR.
Ray Parish Jr., 78, Lee`s Summit, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 1997, at St. Luke`s Hospital.
Mr. Parish was born Jan. 25, 1919, in Lee`s Summit. He was owner and partner of Jackson County Ready Mix in Blue Springs for 19 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blue Springs.
His survivors include his wife of 52 years, Jean Parish of the home; two sons, Dennis Ray Parish of the home, and Roger Parish, Blue Springs; a daughter, Shelia Mae Bridgman, Gallatin, Mo.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m.Friday at the church. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at Newcomer`s Blue Springs Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Special Education Department at the church.
MATIE VAUGHN
Matie Fowler Vaughn, 80, Kansas City, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 1997, at North Kansas City Hospital.
Mrs. Vaughn was born Sept. 28, 1916, in Des Moines, Iowa. She was a member of the Jackson Avenue Christian Church.
Her survivors include her husband of 63 years, Edward A. Vaughn of the home; two sons, Ralph A. Vaughn, Independence, and Edward E. Vaughn, Thomasville, Ga.; a brother, Warren Kennedy, Overland Park, Kan.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Park Lawn Chapel, Kansas City. Burial wil be in Memorial Park cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the chapel.
RUTH M. ZORNES
Ruth M. Zornes, 82, Independence, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 1997, at her home.
Mrs. Zornes was born in Leavenworth, Kan., and had lived in this area most of her life. She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church and its Altar Guild for more than 47 years. She was a 1933 graduate of Northeast High School. Her husband, Harold Herbert Zornes, died in 1988.
Her survivors include three sons, H. Kenton Zornes, Kansas City, John E. Zornes, Oakdale, Minn., and Jerry Zornes, Lee`s Summit; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the church. Inurnment will be in Buckner Hill cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the church. SADA M. HAMPTON
Sada M. Hampton, 94, Independence, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 1997, at Rosewood Health Center.
Mrs. Hampton was born Sept. 30, 1902, in Wray, Colo., and lived in Las Vegas, Nev., for many years, before moving to this area in 1980. She was a self-educated woman. She was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, led the Women`s Department and played piano and organ at her congregation in Las Vegas. She attended the Gudgell Park RLDS congregation. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hampton in 1980, two children, Betty Ruth Hampton and Bob Hampton, a granddaughter, Karen Vreeland Schelb, and a great-grandson, Bobby Barron.
Her survivors include five daughters, Lois Harris, Independence, Velva Hinderks, Stewartsville, Mo., Leta Vreeland, Hagerman, Idaho, Bonnie Barron, Hamilton, Mo., and Valliera Myers, Escondito, Calif.; two sons, Gene Hampton, Columbia, Mo., and Paul Hampton, Redlands, Calif.; two sisters, Vida Luttrell, Olathe, Kan., and Lila Bauer, Lincoln, Mo.; a brother, Jack Willis, Memphis, Tenn.; 30 grandchildren; 65 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will 2 p.m. Friday in Highland cemetery, Hamilton. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to Outreach International.
LeROY J. STEPHENSON
LeRoy J. Stephenson, 82, Hermitage, Mo., died Saturday, Aug. 9, 1997.
Mr. Stephenson was born Aug. 9, 1915, in Clark County, S.D. He graduated from Thorpe Consolidated School in Clark County in 1934 and served in the Civilian Conservation Corp. from 1934 to 1935. Hethen moved to Waterloo, Iowa, where he briefly worked for John Deere before joining the F.W. Woolworth Co. He was an Army veteran from 1944 to 1947, and returned to the F.W. Woolworth Co., where he was a store manager from 1947 to 1959 and 1972 to 1973. He was a district manager in the upper Midwest from 1959 to 1971. He had been a Mason and had obtained the 32nd degree in the Scottish Rites and was a member of Abiding Savior Lutheran Church in Independence. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Justin Lee Keeton and Melissa Leigh Stephenson.
His survivors include his wife of 60 years, Blanche Stephenson of the home; four children, Marian Duff, Denver, Carol Keeton, and Marsha Carlson, both of Pittsburg, Mo., and Roy Stephenson, Bates City; two sisters; two brothers; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church. A memorial fund has been established in Mr. Stephenson`s name to benefit the ministry at Abiding Savior Lutheran Church.
BETTY TONNAR
Betty Tonnar, 77, Carrollton, Mo., died Friday, Aug. 8, 1997, at North Kansas City Hospital.
Mrs. Tonnar was born Dec. 7, 1919, in Kansas City, and had lived in Carrollton for many years. She had worked at Williams Shoe Store and Dickson`s Clothing in Carrollton. She was a member of St. Mary`s Catholic Church in Carrollton and its Altar Society. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Barbara Ann and Rosie Murphy.
Her survivors include her husband, William Tonnar, and two sons, Mike Tonnar and Pat Tonnar, all of Carrollton; six daughters, Joe Ellen Evans, Judy Harper, Carol Stark, Teresa Casner and Debbie Casner, all of Carrollton, and Diana Pennington, Independence; 23 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with a rosary following the service. Burial will be in St. Mary`s cemetery, Carrollton. Friends may call beginning at 7:30 tonight at the church. The family suggests contributions to the Msgr. Summer Scholarship Fund or to your favorite charity.
LEAH A. ADLARD
Leah Ann Adlard, 79, Apache Junction, Ariz., died Thursday, June 26, 1997, at her home.
Mrs. Adlard was born Sept. 12, 1917, in Independence. She attended Pleasant Grove School in Lafayette County and graduated in 1935 from William Chrisman High School. She was a co-owner and manager of Jon`s Muggs Up Restaurant for 23 years. After retirement she spent three years in Chile and 18 months in England as a full time missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Her survivors include her husband, John T. Adlard II of the home; a son, Dr. John T. Adlard III, Odessa; two daughters, Nancy Hansen, Gilbert, Ariz., and Selma Smith, West Valley City, Utah; a sister, Martha Hudnall, Weatherby Lake, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Odessa. Burial will be in the Odessa cemetery. Friends may call from 9 to 10a.m. Thursday at the church.
JOSHUA B. BORGMEYER
Joshua B. Borgmeyer, 21, St. Joseph, Mo., died Sunday, June 29, 1997, at Sugar Lake, Rushville, Mo.
Mr. Borgmeyer was born Feb. 17, 1976, in Chicago and had spent most of his life in Blue Springs. He was a prior resident of Owensboro, Ky., and had lived the past year in St. Joseph. He was a member of the St. Joseph`s Cathedral Catholic Church. He was active in community theater and singing in the Blue Springs area. He was a 1994 graduate of Blue Springs High School and attended Northwest Missouri State University, Maryville.
His survivors include his parents, Jerry and Cassandra Borgmeyer of the home; two sisters, Jessica M. Borgmeyer, St. Joseph, and Deneece M. Young, Grain Valley; his maternal grandparents, James Basden, Springfield, Ill., and Thelma Debord, St. Joseph; his paternal grandmother, Agnes Gray, Jefferson City, Mo.; and three nephews, Christopher Blackburn, Matthew Parker and Brandon Young.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph`s Cathedral Catholic Church. Interment will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, St. Joseph. Friends may call any time after 3 today or from 6 to 9 tonight at the Meierhoffer-Fleeman Funeral Home, St. Joseph, where a prayer service will be at 7 p.m.
GORDON R. HARRIS
Gordon Robert Harris, 76, Kansas City, died Sunday, June 29, 1997, at Oakwood Manor.
Mr. Harris was born May 18, 1921, in Chicago, Ill. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He was a lifetime member of the E. Schumann Heink Chapter of the DAV and a member of Toast Masters. He was a member and elder of the RLDS South Branch congregation. His survivors include his wife, Hope Harris of the home; six sons, Gordon Harris, California, Wesley Bolyard, Mesa, Ariz., J.D. Grissom, San Francisco, Calif., Steve Grissom, Seattle, Wash., Mike Grissom, Kansas City, and Bob Grissom, Grain Valley; three daughters, Victoria Barringer, San Diego, Calif., Donna Kenney, Columbia, Mo., and Shirl Quick, Oak Grove; 17 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Park Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the American Diabetes Association.
MARIAN L. MANUEL
Marian Louise Barritt Manuel, 73, Independence, died Sunday, June 29, 1997, at the Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Manuel was born Dec. 2, 1923, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and had lived in Independence since 1964. She was a business teacher for the Independence School District for 17 years and retired in 1985. She was a member of the RLDS East 39th Street Church.
Her survivors include her husband, Ron Manuel of the home; a daughter, Margaret McDowell, Independence; a son, Evan Manuel, Blue Springs; two brothers, Ward Barritt, Miami, Fla., and Warren Barritt, Chula Vista, Calif.; three sisters, Anne Fox, Cincinnati, Ohio, Helen Joice and Marjorie Olsen, both of Omaha, Neb.; four grandsons and one granddaughter, Jeff, Ryan and Jamie Manuel and Aaron and Ethan McDowell.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. July 20 at the RLDS East 39th Street Church. Her body was donated to the University of Kansas Medical School. The family suggests contributions to the RLDS Temple Endowment Fund. Arrangements are under the direction of Speaks Midtown Chapel.
