EDNA HANDLEN
Edna Jensen Handlen, 92, Council Bluffs, Iowa, died Monday, July 26, 1999, at her daughter's home in Independence, where she resided the past nine months.
Mrs. Handlen was born July 3, 1907, in Council Bluffs and was a lifelong resident of Pottawattamie County. She was a homemaker. She had worked for the Singer Sewing Co. for a number of years and was former owner of the Jan Ric Co. She was an active member of the Central congregation of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Council Bluffs. Her husband, Leslie Handlen, died in 1968.
Her survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Wanda and Charles Christiansen, Council Bluffs, and Wilma Han-dlen, Independence; one brother, Earl F. Jensen, Council Bluffs; four grandchildren, Rand Christ-iansen, Omaha, Neb., Tamera Gordon and Gary Christiansen of Council Bluffs, and Lori Evers, Lee's Summit; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thurs-day at the Meyer Funeral Home, Council Bluffs. Burial will be in the Hazel Dell cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the church.
MARIE GLAZIER
Marie Glazier, 75, Independence, died Wednesday, May 20, 1998, at St. Joseph Health Center.
Mrs. Glazier was born Sept. 15, 1922, in Union, Neb., and had lived in St. Louis before moving to the Kansas City area in 1978. She had lived in Independence since 1993. She was a bookkeeper for Beth Shalom Temple, Kansas City, retiring in 1992. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Glazier in 1975.
Her survivors include a son, Terry Glazier, Independence, a daughter, Sharon McGee, Chesterfield, Mo.; and four grandchildren, Steve, Elly Marie, Michael and Dawn.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. today at the Greenwood cemetery, Bolivar, Mo. The family suggests contributions to Wayside Waifs.
DONNA M. HANEY
Donna M. Haney, 62, Blue Springs, formerly of Independence, died Wednesday, May 20, 1998, at Kansas University Medical Center.
Mrs. Haney was born May 19, 1938, in Independence. She was a homemaker and a member of the Good Shepherd Christian Church.
Her survivors include her husband, Joe Haney, and a son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Jody Haney, all of Blue Springs; a daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Jeff Owens, Liberty, Mo.; her mother, Tressie Branham, Blue Springs; and five grandchildren, Bradley and Tyler Owens, Liberty, and Robby, Caitlin and MacKenna Haney, Blue springs.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs. The family suggests contributions to the church.
DAVID R. MYERS
David R. Myers, 45, Raytown, died Wednesday, May 20, 1998, at Cedar Valley Health Center, Raytown.
Mr. Myers was born April 7, 1953, in Oakland, Calif.
He is survived by a brother, Theodore Myers of Independence.
Cremation. Arrangements are under the direction of D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Floral Hills Chapel.
AARON G. NICHOLSON
Aaron G. Nicholson, 23, Independence, died Wednesday, May 20, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Nicholson was born May 28, 1974, in Pryor, Okla. He was a millwright with Union Local 1529 in Kansas City, and an Air Force veteran.
His survivors include his parents, Landon and Lo Rene Nicholson, a sister and brother-in-law, Roxane and Matt Jennings, and a brother, Wendell Nicholson, all of Independence; and his grandparents, Dorothy Davis, Derby, Kan., and E.W. Nicholson, Locust Grove, Okla.
Private services will be held in Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Truman Heartland Foundation, 300 N. Osage, Independence, Mo. 64050. Arrangements are under the direction of the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.
RUBY D. PHILLIPS
Ruby D. Phillips, 96, Creighton, Mo., died Wednesday, May 20, 1998, at the Cass County Medical Center, Harrisonville, Mo.
Mrs. Phillips was born in Grain Valley. She was a sales clerk in a women`s clothing store before she retired. She was a member of Unity Village, Order of the Eastern Star and the Garden Club of Blue Springs. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rupert Leroy Phillips in 1967, and two grandchildren.
Her survivors include three daughters, Evalyn D. Johnston, Independence, Mary Eleanor Briggs, Blue Springs, and Velma June McMillen of the home; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.
RUTH A. RAHE
Ruth Anna Coffel Rahe, 68, Independence, died Wednesday, May 20, 1998, at Research Medical Center in Kansas City.
Mrs. Rahe was born Dec. 2, 1929, in LaCygne, Kan., and had lived in Independence most of her life. She worked at Ben Franklin in
Englewood, and was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles 3717 and Neighborhood Council 1. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond W. Rahe in 1988, and a granddaughter, Lorie Ann Rahe.
Her survivors include four daughters, Barbara Martin, Cynthia Rahe and Mona Gossage, all of Independence, and Phyllis Smith, Lee`s Summit; four sons, Ronnie Rahe, Raymond Duane Rahe and Daney Rahe, all of Independence, and Denis Rahe, Centerview, Mo.; four sisters, Mary Price, Mound City, Kan., Lucy Staton, Pleasanton, Kan., Thelma Faith, Weaubleau, Kan., and Pat Merriman, Onega, Kan.; two brothers, John Coffel and Bob Coffel, both of Independence; 23 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel.
DORIS H. SHORE
Doris H. Shore, 79, Oak Grove, died Wednesday, May 20, 1998, at Research Belton Hospital.
Mrs. Shore was born May 29, 1918, in Kansas City, and had lived in Oak Grove for the past 30 years before moving to Beautiful Savior Nursing Home in Belton one month ago. She was a clerk and cashier for the Milgram food stores for 29 years, retiring in the mid-1960s. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oak Grove, Christian Clowns and American Legion Post 379 Ladies Auxiliary.
Her survivors include a daughter, Loueta H. Cummins, Lee`s Summit; a sister, Jean Miller, Grain Valley; and one granddaughter, Janna Denning, Shelton, Wash.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery, north of Grain Valley. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the chapel, where the Ladies Auxiliary will present their ceremony at 1:30 p.m.
KENNETH L. SPENCER
Kenneth L. Spencer, 88, Independence, died Wednesday, May 20, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Spencer was born Aug. 22, 1909, and lived in California most of his life, moving to Independence 22 years ago. He owned and operated Claussen Radiator Shop in California for 20 years, retiring in 1975. He was preceded in death by his wife, Katie Spencer in 1997, and a son, Charles Branch in 1996.
His survivors include a son, Drew Branche, Camarillo, Calif.; five daughters, Jan Maitland, Sue Smith and Carroll Rash, all of Independence, Lydia Slay of the home, and Judy Rancour, Paso Robles, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Private graveside services will be today in Mound Grove cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the South Crysler Restoration Branch. Arrangements are under the direction of the Speaks Suburban Chapel.
LOTTIE J. STEPHENS
Lottie Jane Stephens, 83, Independence, died Thursday, May 21, 1998, at the Medical Center of Independence.
Mrs. Stephens was born Sept. 29, 1914, in Atherton, and was a lifelong area resident. She was a member of Rockwood Baptist Church.
Her survivors include her husband, Clifford R. Stephens of the home; a son, Richard D. Stephens, Independence; a daughter, Linda C. Wilson, Wichita, Kan.; a sister, Myrtle L. Brown, Independence; a brother, George D. Lilly, Greenfield, Mass.; and two granddaughters, Kamber Marie Stephens and Lauren Ashleigh Stephens.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the church.
ELIZABETH K. ABDOLER
Elizabeth K. Abdoler, 76, Wellington, Mo., died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at St. Mary`s Hospital.
Mrs. Abdoler was born April 1, 1922, in Jamestown, Mo. She was a member of the St. Lukes Evangelical Church in Wellington and the Dirt Daubers Garden Club.
Her survivors include her husband, Leonard "Jack" Abdoler of the home; two daughters, Katherine Shroyer, Wellington, Mo., and Kristin Brownfield, Hillsborough, N.J.; a son, Richard Abdoler, Clinton, Mo.; three brothers, Buddy Beissenherz and Gene Beissenherz, both of Wellington, and Richard Beissenherz, Liberty, Mo.; a sister, Lucille Furkin, Chesterfield, Mo.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services will be 3 p.m. Sunday at the church. Burial will be in St. Lukes cemetery. Friends may call from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest contributions to the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Snow Funeral Home in Wellington.
JUANITA L. MCLELLAND
Juanita McLelland, 74, Blue Springs, died Friday, Oct. 2, 1998 in her home.
She was born Dec. 31, 1923 in Deepwater, Mo.
She worked for Allied Signal as an electronic assembler and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. After her retirement, she worked for Dollar General Store in Blue Springs. She was a member of the Duncan Road Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Gail McKay, Blue Springs; son Bruce McLelland, Blue Springs; brothers Charels W. Rice, Blue Springs; and brother Marshall E. Rice, Independence; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday in the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. and last until the time of the service. The family recommends memorial contributions to the Heart of America Hospice.
CLAY H. HOUX
Clay H. Houx, 83, Independence, died Tuesday, March 24, 1998, at Independence Regional Health Center.
Mr. Houx was born Jan. 5, 1915, in Sumner, Mo., and had lived in Independence for most of his life. He was an electrician by trade and was a member of Electrician`s Union Local 124. He was a member of Nativity of Mary Catholic Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
His survivors include his wife of 56 years, Agnes Gorski Houx of the home; four sisters, Velma Browning, Drexel, Mo., Ella Allen, and Dorothy Hood, both of Independence; and Mary Gill, Overland Park, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Nativity of Mary Catholic Church, Independence. Entombment will be in Mount Olivet Mausoleum. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the Newcomer`s Noland Road Chapel, where the rosary will be said at 7 p.m. The family suggests contributions to the church.
IRVING L. KING
Irving L. King, 73, Independence, died Wednesday, March 25, 1998, at his home.
Mr. King was born June 27, 1924, in Independence. He was owner of King Carpet and Tile Co. He was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of the Blue River Church of Christ and the Independence Horseshoe Club.
His survivors include his wife of 50 years, Marge King of the home; two daughters, Pam Simmerman and Michele Fraley, both of Independence; a sister, Georgia Kelsey, Independence; five grandchildren, Shannon, Eric, Jami, Andy and Wade; and a great-granddaughter, Patience.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Park Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will be in Green Lawn cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Hospice of St. Mary`s Hospital, Blue Springs.
WILLIAM E. STONE
William Everett Stone, 72, Independence, died Tuesday, March 24, 1998.
Mr. Stone was born Sept. 20, 1925, in Independence where he was a lifelong resident. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the Unity Church. He was a construction inspector for the City of Independence for 10 years.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia May Stone of the home; two daughters, Laura Browning, Buckner, and Dana Eichman, Independence; a brother, Clyde Stone, Colorado Springs, Colo.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 5:30 p.m. Saturday at the Unity Church of Independence, 14304 East 39th St.; cremation.
