MICHELLE L. BOWERS KEATING

Michelle L. Bowers Keating, 37, Blue Springs, died Friday, July 11, 1997, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mrs. Keating was born Feb. 18, 1960, in Kansas City and had lived in the Independence area for most of her life until moving to Blue Springs six years ago. She was a 1978 graduate of Truman High School. She worked for the federal government, Department of Finance and Accounting Services, for the last 10 years.

Her survivors include her husband, Danny Keating, and her son, Kenny Keating, both of Blue Springs; her parents, John and Mary Bowers, Independence; a brother, C. Steve Bowers, Independence; three sisters, Diana Christenson and Lisa Webber, both of Independence, and Donna Arneson, South Dakota; seven nephews and four nieces.

Services were today at George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to a fund for her son`s education or to the American Cancer Society.

ERIN ELIZABETH MOORE

Erin Elizabeth Moore, infant daughter of Kenneth and Kari Moore of Independence, died Thursday, July 10, 1997, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.

Her survivors also include her brother, Cole Moore of the home; paternal grandparents, Kenneth H. and Coralie Moore; maternal grandparents, Howard and Patty Askew, and maternal great-grandparents, Harvey and Rhoda Whiting, all of Independence.

Services were today at Mound Grove cemetery.

PEARL B. PUGH

Pearl B. Pugh, 99, Independence, died Friday, July 11, 1997, at the Independence Manor Care Center.

Mrs. Pugh was born in July 1898, in Denton, Texas, and had lived in Independence for the past 70 years. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Fairmount Christian Church. Her husband, A.J. Pugh, died in 1961, her son, William H. Pugh, died in 1996, and her daughter, Dorothy Sampson, died in 1991.

Her survivors include two sons, Virgil F. Pugh, Independence, and Jack A. Pugh, Sugar Creek; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Fairmount Christian Church, 641 S. Ash, Independence, Mo. 64053.

SAMUEL A. WHITE

Samuel A. White, 89, Independence, died Friday, July 11, 1997, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mr. White was born March 5, 1908, in Kansas City. He was a truck driver for the Kansas City Star and Phillips Petroleum Co. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II.

His survivors include his wife, Elizabeth E. White of the home; two daughters, Lorna B. Sullivan, Independence, and Mary E. Giuliucci, Orlando, Fla.; a son, Samuel A. White Jr., North Kingstown, R.I.; a sister, Sarah Elizabeth Edwards, Independence; and seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Moriah and Freeman Chapel. Visitation will be 2:30 to 3 p.m. at the chapel. Burial will be at Mount Moriah cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Children`s Mercy Hospital or the Red Cross.

ERSKINE A. DAVIS

Erskine A. "Tex" Davis, 79, Independence, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 1997, at his home.

Mr. Davis was born March 7, 1918, in Runnells County, Texas. He retired as a regional operating manager for Montgomery Ward in Houston. He previously had worked for Western Auto and was manager for Community Discount in Kansas City. He was a World War II Army veteran and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Bellaire, Texas, and was a past president of Animal Owners Association of Independence and the Missouri Rebel Riders Saddle Club. He was also a member of The Carriage & Driving Society of Greater Kansas City.

His survivors include his wife, Iris H. Davis of the home; four daughters, Queenell Davis, Independence, Neysa Kurle, Lee`s Summit, and Tana Cosentino and Ceryse Poland, both of Blue Springs; a son, Rance H. Davis, Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, Steve R. Davis, Independence; a sister, Thais Phelps, McAllen, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Longview Funeral Home. Burial will be in Longview Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Hospice Care of St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.

IRVINE W. DAVIS

Irvine W. Davis, 81, Independence, died Friday, Aug. 8, 1997, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mr. Davis was born Jan. 13, 1916, in Nelson, Mo., and lived in Marshall Junction, Mo., for several years, and in Saline County, Mo., before moving to Independence in 1959. He was a welder for 25 years for General Motors, retiring in 1978, and was a member of AFL/CIO Union Local 93. He was a deacon at Susquehanna Baptist Church.

His survivors include his wife, Nona Davis of the home; a daughter, Joyce Nadean Davis, Johnstown, Pa.; a sister, Virginia Rainbolt, Terre Haute, Ind.; one grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were today at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial was at the Houstonia (Mo.) cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the Missouri Baptist Childrens` Home.

JILL E. DOSTAL

Jill Elaine Dostal, 39, Higginsville, Mo., died Friday, Aug. 8, 1997, at Research Medical Center.

Mrs. Dostal was born Dec. 4, 1957, in Kansas City. She was a waitress at Truck Stops of America in Concordia, Mo., and a member of Unity Village.

Her survivors include her husband, David Dostal of the home; two sons, Colby Wochner and Joseph Wochner, a daughter, Taylor Wochner, a stepdaughter, Alie Dostal, and her mother, Suzanne Moorhead, all of Blue Springs; three brothers, Fred Mountjoy, Kansas City, and Stephen Mountjoy and Gary Mountjoy, both of Blue Springs; and two sisters, Jan Wright, Blue Springs, and Lisa Gilbride, Shawnee, Kan.

Services will be 8 p.m. Tuesday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Blue Springs Chapel; cremation. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel.

MAE E. FARMER

Mae Elizabeth Farmer, 76, Independence, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 1997, at Liberty Hospital.

Mrs. Farmer was born on Sept. 4, 1920, in Mobile, Ala., and lived in Houston, Texas, before moving to Independence a year ago. She was a registered nurse at Memorial Hospital in Houston for 24 years, retiring in 1981. She was a member of the Waldo Avenue Restoration Church. Her husband, Dalton Wayne Farmer, died in 1968.

Her survivors include three daughters, Bonnie L. Delgado, Garland, Texas, Judy C. Kanellos, Metairie, La., and Edith M. Bishop, Santa Fe, Texas; two sisters, Marguerite Rollo, Milton, Fla., and Onida Wade, St. Petersburg, Fla.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial services were held Sunday at the church; cremation. The family suggests contributions to Outreach International. Arrangements were under the direction of the Speaks Suburban Chapel.

ALICE FISHER

Alice Blake Hagen Fisher, 76, Independence, died Sunday, Aug. 10, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Fisher was born June 15, 1921, in Kansas City and was a lifelong Independence resident. She worked at Interstate Bakeries for 29 years, retiring in 1981. She was a member of the Glenwood Park United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by a son, Jack Hagen.

Her survivors include her husband, Forrest Kenneth Fisher of the home; two stepsons, Kenneth Wayne Fisher, Anchorage, Alaska, and Eugene P. Fisher, Independence, two brothers, Francis O. Blake and Eugene W. Blake, both of Independence; two sisters, Marcene Bergman, Independence, and Lois Read, Kansas City; two granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at George C. Carson and Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be at Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel.

CLOYD E. JENKINS

Cloyd E. Jenkins, 88, Grain Valley, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Jenkins was born Jan. 14, 1909, in Byrnville, Ind., and had lived in Grain Valley for 46 years. He was a retired from the General Motors Leeds Plant. He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the Odd Fellows of Blue Springs.

His survivors include his wife, Josephine Jenkins of the home; three daughters, Birdie Curtis and Maureen McClarnon, both of Independence, and Claudette Beck, Gloversville, N.Y.; two sons, Rocky Jenkins, Apple Valley, Minn., and Mark Jenkins, Burleson, Texas; 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Mound Grove cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the George C. Carson and Sons Independence Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Columbia Independence Regional Health Center Hospice.

LLOYD W. WILLOUGHBY

Lloyd W. Willoughby of Independence, died Friday, Aug. 8, 1997, at Cedar Valley Health Center.

Mr. Willoughby was born in 1910 in Yuma County, Colo., and had lived in Independence most of his life. He worked for the Amoco Refinery in Sugar Creek for 25 years, retiring in 1972. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, and received the Victory, American Area and Asiatic Pacific medals. He was a 1929 graduate of William Chrisman High School. He was preceded in death by a son, Patrick L. Willoughby.

His survivors include his wife of 52 years, Margaret Willoughby; two sons, Lee Willoughby, Livingston, Texas, and Randy Willoughby, Austin, Texas; three daughters, Sandra Smith, Pleasant Hill, Ore., Dixie Kalwei, Raytown, and Debbie Culver, Kansas City, Kan.; 12 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at George C. Carson and Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the chapel.

LESLIE E. FLOWERS

Leslie Edward Flowers, 91, Blue Springs, died Wednesday, June 18, 1997, at the Independence Manor Care Center.

Mr. Flowers was born Oct. 10, 1905, in Clearwater, Neb., and had lived in this area for 27 years. He was employed by the state of Michigan as an administrative assistant in the Department of Social Services for 34 years, retiring in 1971. Earlier he had been staff editor at Herald House. He attended Graceland College, Lamoni, Iowa, and earned a master`s degree in journalism from the University of Iowa. He was an active member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served as pastor and associate pastor to several congregations in Michigan. Since moving to Blue Springs, he had become active as a volunteer in the community, helping senior citizens. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Flowers.

His survivors include one daughter, Susan Hanson, Ashburn, Va.; two grandsons, Brad Hallak, Liberty, Mo., and Steven Hallak, Overland Park, Kan.; four great-grandchildren, Brittany, Erika, Samantha and Sidney; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the RLDS Temple Endowment Fund.

HATTIE E. GLENN

Hattie E. Glenn, 69, Sugar Creek, died Tuesday, June 17, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.

Mrs. Glenn was born Sept. 21, 1927, in Kansas City, and had lived in Sugar Creek since 1973. She worked for Sterling Lanes in Independence from 1966 to 1997.

Her survivors include her husband, Clay H. Glenn Sr. of the home; three sons, Clay H. Glenn Jr., Freeman, Mo., Gregory A. Glenn, Kansas City, and Scott R. Glenn, Independence; three daughters, Pamela E. Lityma and Debra L. McCormick, both of Independence, and Nancy S. Barnes, Gower, Mo.; one brother, Charles E. Lee, Kansas City; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Sugar Creek Citizens Civic Relief Fund.

WILLIAM H. BANFIELD

William H. Banfield, 84, Blue Springs, formerly of Independence, died Wednesday, June 25, 1997, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mr. Banfield was born July 3, 1912, in Millfield, Ohio, and had lived in Taylorville, Ill., Phoenix, Ariz., Climax Springs, Mo., and in Independence for 15 years. He was baptized in 1941 into the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, ordained into the priesthood in 1942 and as an elder in 1951. He was very active in the church in Phoenix and was instrumental in organizing a branch in Climax Springs. He was a member of the Oak Grove Restoration Branch of Jesus Christ`s Church. He was a life insurance agent at the time of retirement. Earlier, he had been a coal miner in Taylorville.

His survivors include his wife, Mary K. White Banfield, Blue Springs; one son, William J. Banfield, Lancaster, Ohio; two daughters, Rita Young, Sun City, Ariz., and Jean Rasmussen, Chapel Hill, N.C.; two stepdaughters, Charla Petelin, Blue Springs, and Madonna McRoberts, Barstow, Calif.; one sister, Marie Newman, Lancaster; a half sister, Alma Fuchik, Crystal, Mich.; six grandchildren; five step grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the church. His body was donated to the University of Health Sciences in Kansas City. Contributions are suggested to the family.

B.F. LARKIN JR.

B.F. Larkin Jr., 95, Blue Springs, formerly of Sugar Creek, died Tuesday, July 8, 1997, at his home.

Mr. Larkin was born Oct. 20, 1901, in Sugar Creek and was a lifelong area resident. He was a self-employed farmer for more than 30 years. He was a member of the Ararat Shrine Temple, a Shriner for more than 50 years, a member of Independence Masonic Lodge 76, and a member of the Blue Lodge for more than 60 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes Leone Larkin in 1982, and a son, B.F. Larkin III, and a daughter, Mary Alice Wyckoff, both in 1995.

His survivors include one son, William L. Larkin, Independence; one daughter, Anna M. Noland, Liberty, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel, where Masonic services will be held prior to the service. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the chapel.

JOHN H. LINKHART

John H. Linkhart, 84, Oak Grove, died Tuesday, July 8, 1997, at his daughter`s home in Independence.

Mr. Linkhart was born Feb. 22, 1913, in Mounds, Okla. He was a lifestock drover for the Kansas City Stockyards before he retired. His wife, Lucille Linkhart, died in 1991.

His survivors include two sons, Harold W. Linkhart, Oak Grove, and John R. Linkhart, Bates City; one daughter, Demaris Mahurin, Independence; two sisters, Dollie Budd, Independence, and Daisy Hammer, Ohio; five grandchildren, Tina Wheeler, John Long, David Long, Eric Linkhart and Justin Linkhart; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens.Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel.
