ESTELLA R. GALLAGHER
Estella Ruth Gallagher, 84, Pleasant Hill, Mo., died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at Research Medical Center.
Mrs. Gallagher was born Dec. 14, 1914, in Alta Vista, Kan.
Her survivors include her husband, Edward Gallagher of the home; two daughters, Jerre Petal, Grant's Pass, Ore., and Judy Pierce, Limon, Colo.; a sister, Genece Waddell, Independence; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery. Friends may call from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Strasburg Union Church, Strasburg, Mo. 64090.
ANN E. BITTIKER
Ann Elizabeth Sims Bittiker of Independence died Sunday, March 21, 1999.
Mrs. Bittiker was born Nov. 14, 1924, in Warrensburg, Mo., and had lived in Independence most of her life. She worked for Southwestern Bell in 1942 and 1943 as a supervisor. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Warrensburg, Mo., and the Independence Towers Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick R. Bittiker Sr. in 1983, a granddaughter, Laura E. Minks in 1998, and a great-grandson, Dustin G. Hein in 1982.
Her survivors include three children, Janis R. Martin and Patricia A. Minks, both of Independence, and Fred R. Bittiker Jr., Sibley; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Adams, Kansas City; and Vivian Buxton, Grain Valley; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Noland Road Chapel. Burial will be in Woodlawn cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Kansas City Hospice or Children's Mercy Hospital.
RACHEL S. HEMME
Rachel S. Hemme, 77, Kansas City, died Sunday, March 21, 1999, at the St. Joseph Health Center.
Mrs. Hemme was born Feb. 2, 1922, in Odessa. Her husband, Louis Hemme, died in 1992.
Her survivors include three sons, Lewis A. Hemme, Miami, Donald L. Hemme, Killeen, Texas, and Leland J. Hemme, Hermitage, Mo.; two daughters, Beverly J. Wiltsey, Kansas City, and Gail J. Lage, Tucson, Ariz.; one brother, Delbert W. Sims, Independence; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Carson Funeral Home, Blue Ridge Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
PAUL H. JETT
Paul H. Jett, 67, Independence, died Saturday, March 20, 1999.
Mr. Jett was born March 17, 1932, in Henrietta, Mo. He was a 20 year veteran of the military, having served in the Air Force and the Army.
His survivors include his wife, Bertha Jett of the home; one son, Paul A. Jett, Independence, three daughters, Tracy Miller, Independence, Helen Snyder, Clinton, Mo., and Paula Ann Jett; and four grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the George C. Carson Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel.
BERTHENA M. MEYERS
Berthena M. Meyers, 73, Blue Springs, died Saturday, March 20, 1999, at her home.
Mrs. Meyers was born Oct. 1, 1925, in Dade County, Mo., and lived in Kansas City for 40 years before moving to Blue Springs two years ago. She was a clerk for AT&T for 25 years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Pennsboro, Mo. Her husband, Richard Meyers, died in 1969.
Her survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Janet Meyers, Blue Springs, and Richard and Lori Meyers, Shawnee, Kan.; two sisters, Buena Karleskint, Fort Scott, Kan., and Sibby Middleton, Forsyth, Mo.; one brother, Perry Dean Renfro, Monnett, Mo.; and five grandsons, Eric, Brad, Evan, Austin and Chad.
Services will be 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs. Burial will be in Pennsboro cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association.
CLAUDE A. NANCE
Claude A. Nance, 93, Independence, died Sunday, March 21, 1999, at his home.
Mr. Nance was born Dec. 18, 1905, in Richmond, Mo., and lived in Richmond before moving to Independence. He was an engineer for the Veterans Administration Hospital in Kansas City before retiring. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of the American Legion in Independence. He was also a member of the Rock Falls Baptist Church, near Elkhorn, Mo.
His survivors include his wife, Edna McGaugh Nance of the home; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Sunny Slope cemetery, Richmond, where military graveside services will be conducted by American Legion Post 237 and the Richmond Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4398. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the church. The family suggests contributions to the Rock Falls Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond.
JOHN COSTANZO
John Costanzo, 93, Independence, died Wednesday, April 23, 1997, at Park Lane Medical Center in Raytown.
Mr. Costanzo was born Dec.20, 1903, in Palermo, Italy, and had lived in Independence most of his life. He was a produce dealer and a member of New Hope Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II. His wife, Elsie M. Costanzo, died in 1991.
His survivors include three nephews.
Graveside services were today at Green Lawn cemetery in Kansas City. Arrangements were under the direction of D.W. Newcomer`s Noland Road Chapel.
SUSAN I. EVANS
Susan I. Evans, 81, Independence, died Sunday, April 27, 1997, at the Rosewood Care Center.
Mrs. Evans was born Oct. 17, 1915, in Sugar Creek and was a lifelong Independence resident. She was the cook manager at St. Mary`s High School for 31 years, retiring in 1989. She was a member of St. Ann`s Catholic Church and its Altar Society. She was a member of Flower Busters at Sister of St. Francis Convent. Her husband, Louise "Speck" Evans, died in 1973.
Her survivors include three daughters, Irene Hallagin and Karen Prince, both of Independence, and Judith Pensabene, Fairfax Station, Va.; two brothers, John Salva, Sugar Creek, and Andy Slanko, Independence; one sister, Helen Bass, Independence; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Ann`s Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Raytown. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Carson Independence Chapel, where the rosary will be said at 8 p.m.
ELMER C. OLSON
Elmer Carl Olson, 47, Derby, Kan., formerly of Independence, died Saturday, April 26, 1997.
Mr. Olson was a Raytheon Aircraft senior technical specialist for lightning.
His survivors include his wife, Beverly Jean Olson, one daughter, Lauren Elizabeth Olson, and one son, Richard Andrew Olson, all of Derby; his parents, Elmer and Mardell Olson, Independence; and two sisters, Janet Olson West, Holden, Mo., and Twyla Olson Hahn, Independence.
Memorial services were today at the RLDS Central congregation in Wichita, Kan. The family suggests contributions to the church, 1650 S. Water, Wichita, KS 67213. Arrangements were under the direction of Broadway Mortuary, Wichita.
JOE R. SEWARD III
Joe R. Seward III, 18, Blue Springs, died Sunday, April 27, 1997, in Lafayette County.
Mr. Seward was born in Kansas City and was a lifelong area resident. He was night manager for Popeye`s Chicken and had also worked for Stone Container, both in Blue Springs.
His survivors include his father and stepmother, Joe and Mary Seward, Odessa, Mo.; his mother and stepfather, Carolyn and Duane Pearce, Oak Grove; two brothers, David V. Seward, Odessa, and Paul A. Pearce, Oak Grove; three sisters, Michelle D. Morton, Warrensburg, Mo., Jennifer R. Morton, Independence, and Jennifer D. Pearce, Oak Grove; his maternal grandmother, Ruth Grebe, Oak Grove; his paternal grandparents, Ann Seward, Kansas City, and Laura and Larry Williams, Warsaw, Mo.; and one niece, Justice C. Wasmer.
Services will be at 2 p.m.Friday at Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove. Burial will be in Oak Grove cemetery.Friends may call from noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the chapel.
JOANNA SHOEMAKER
Joanna "Jody" Shoemaker, 45, Independence, died Saturday, April 26, 1997, at her home.
Mrs. Shoemaker was born Aug. 30, 1951, in Hutchinson, Kan. She attended high school in Buhler, Kan., and graduated from Mid-America Nazarene College, Olathe, Kan., in 1973. She was a member of the Lee`s Summit First Church of the Nazarene, where she was active in many areas, particularly working with children.
Her survivors include her husband, Roger Shoemaker of the home; four sons, James Shoemaker, Bullhead City, Ariz., Gregory Shoemaker, Independence, and Christopher Shoemaker and Daryn Shoemaker, both of the home; her parents, Richard and Margaret Clark, Hutchinson; five brothers, James Clark, Denver, Roy Clark, Chandler, Okla., Mitchell Clark, Hutchinson, Richard Clark II, White Cloud, Mich., and Roger Clark, Eustis, Neb.; two sisters, Patricia Pirtle, Columbus, Ohio, and Teresa Locke, Hutchinson; one granddaughter, Ashleigh Shoemaker; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Langsford Funeral Home, Lee`s Summit. Burial and graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Rose Hill cemetery, Brookfield, Mo. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
ANTHONY R. TINOCO
Anthony Roman Tinoco, 22, Independence, died Saturday, April 26, 1997, in Independence.
Mr. Tinoco was born June 12, 1974, in Kansas City and was a lifelong area resident. He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church.
His survivors include one son, Domonic F. Tinoco of the home; one daughter, Briana N. Stephens, Lee`s Summit; his parents, Cynthia and Albert Tinoco Jr., three brothers, Angelo Tinoco, Nicholas Tinoco and Shawn Tinoco, all of the home; one sister, Monica Becerra, Kansas City, Kan.; and his paternal grandparents, Angie and Albert Tinoco Sr., his maternal grandfather, Gilbert A. Diaz, and his maternal great-grandmother, Jessie Montoya, all of Kansas City.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary cemetery, Kansas City, Kan. Friends may call from 5 to 8 tonight at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, where the rosary will be said at 7 p.m.
FRANK L. VICKERMAN
Frank Leslie Vickerman, 86, Independence, died Sunday, April 27, 1997, at the Rosewood Care Center in Raytown.
Mr. Vickerman was born Dec. 12, 1910, in Genesee County, Mich., and moved to Independence in 1959. He worked for General Motors in Flint, Mich., for 26 years before moving to Independence. He was a painter with the Independence Sanitarium and Hospital before he retired. He was a member of the Blue Springs Restoration Branch. He was preceded in death by his wife, Connie Giron Vickerman, in 1996 and four infant sons.
His survivors include one son, Dr. David L. Vickerman, Cabool, Mo.; two brothers, Clarence Vickerman, Mount Morris, Mich., and Vernon Vickerman, Clio, Mich.; and two granddaughters, Thanna Vickerman and Danel Vickerman.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 9 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the church.
VIRGINIA M. WYATT
Virginaia M. Wyatt, 74, Peculiar, Mo., died Thursday, March 18, 1999, at Research Belton Hospital.
Mrs. Wyatt was born Nov. 28, 1924, in Kansas City, and was living on a farm in the Cass County, Mo., area. Her husband, Harold Wyatt, died in 1992.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Services were Saturday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel. Burial was in Mount Washington cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the Grace Christian Assembly Bible School.
DARLENE MORRIS
Darlene Morris, 63, Odessa, died Tuesday, May 5, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.
Mrs. Morris was born Feb. 23, 1935, in Birmingham, Mo., and had lived in Odessa since early childhood. She had worked from 1959 to 1998 in full-time or part-time positions with the Odessa R-7 School cafeterias. She had also worked for Harmon Industries from 1974 to 1981 and at the Odessa Garment Factory from 1971 to 1974 and at the Odessa Shoe Factory from 1950 to 1959. She had attended the Odessa schools and Linn Grove Rural School. She was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church, Oak Grove. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Morris on Feb. 5, 1994, and an infant son, Steven Wayne Morris.
Her survivors include a son, Jeffrey D. Morris, El Toro, Calif., Marine Corps Base; two daughters, Joyce D. Crowl, Odessa, and Jannel Lynn Morris of the home; three brothers, Jim Miller, Odessa, Everette Miller, Sweet Springs, and Roy Miller, Taylorsville, Calif.; a sister, Wanda Carroll, Odessa; and two grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Chapel, Odessa. Burial will be in the Higginsville (Mo.) cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association.
LAWRENCE E. MOSBY
Lawrence Eldon Mosby, 82, Blue Springs, died Wednesday, May 6, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.
Mr. Mosby was born March 12, 1936, Smithville, Mo., and had lived in Independence for 33 years before moving to Blue Springs. He was a foreman at a box factory and a Methodist by faith.
His survivors include his wife, Marilyn Mosby of the home; a half sister, Kay Koontz, Medina, Ohio; a brother, Roger Mosby, Lawson, Mo.; a sister, Freta Petitt, Smithville; two godsons; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home. The family suggests contributions to the Arthritis Foundation.
