Esther C. Feo
Esther C. Brookshier Feo of Blue Springs, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at the Independence Manor Care Center.
Mrs. Feo was born Dec. 26, 1918, in Parnell, Iowa. She had been a supervisor for Farmland Industries.
Her survivors include her husband, Mike Feo of Blue Springs; three sons, Delbert Brookshier, Comanche, Texas, Wayne Brookshier, Warsaw, Mo., and Ronnie 'Red' Brookshier, Kansas City; one brother and three sisters of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services were today at the Tri-City Baptist Church in Blue Springs. Burial was in Centerview (Mo.) cemetery. The family suggests contributions to Cancer Action of Kansas City.
Clifford R. Fisher
Clifford R. Fisher, 85, Independence, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, at the Independence Regional Health Center.
Mr. Fisher was born Feb. 17, 1914, in Kansas City. He was a foreman for Western Envelope for 37 years. He was a member of the Blue Ridge United Methodist Church. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, and a member of American Legion Post 21.
His survivors include his wife, Norma Fisher of the home; four daughters, Carol Smith and Janet Wheeler, both of Independence, Patricia Stevenson, Grain Valley, and Jean Wolber, Blue Springs; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City. Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the church or the Alzheimer's Association.
Maudie Johnson
Maudie Johnson, 77, Independence, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000.
Mrs. Johnson was born Feb. 2, 1922, in Springfield, Mo.
Her survivors include her husband, Walter J. Johnson of the home; her twin brother, Frankie Ferris, Excelsior Springs, Mo.; three children, James Mitchell, Independence, Carol McCollum, Kansas City, and Mary Hensley, New Florence, Mo.; six grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Cremation with a memorial service to be held at a later date at Green Lawn cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Morticians Services in Kansas City.
Juanita C. Moore
Juanita C. Moore, 69, Stover, Mo., died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, in Alamo, Texas.
Mrs. Moore was born March 6, 1930, in Kansas City, and had lived most of her life in this area before moving to the Lake of the Ozarks 15 years ago. She and her husband spent their winter months near Alamo, Texas.
Her survivors include her husband of 50 years, Carl Moore of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Kathy Moore, Lee's Summit; two daughters, Patricia Wynn, Pleasant Hill, Mo., and Marcia Moore of the home; a sister, Virginia Helms, Wichita, Kan.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Park Lawn Chapel. Private inurnment will be in the Garden of the Crosses Mausoleum, Memorial Park cemetery, Kansas City. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Greater Kansas City, 106 E. 31st Terrace, Kansas City, Mo., 64111.
Warren O. Shireman
Warren Otis Shireman, 75, Blue Springs, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital of Blue Springs.
Mr. Shireman was born Jan. 12, 1925, in Rolla, Mo. He had been a mechanic and a body shop manager. He was a veteran of the Armed Forces.
His survivors include his wife, Patty Shireman of the home; four daughters, Michele Parker, Tracy Osborn, Karen Foster and Debi Smith; one son, Mike Singleton; three brothers, Dr. Kenneth Shireman, Robert Shireman and Emil Shireman; three sisters, Joann Arnold, Diane Colbert and Carol Greene; 15 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Cremation, with a private memorial service at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs.
George E. Shull
George E. Shull, 75, Independence, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at his home.
Mr. Shull was born June 20, 1924, in Lexington, Mo. He worked for the Bendix Corp. before retiring in 1977. He later worked for St. Mary's Hospital of Blue Springs until 1986. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and a graduate of Finley Engineering College. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed the outdoors. His wife, Ethel M. Shull, died in 1998.
His survivors include a stepdaughter, Pamela S. Hassler, Lee's Summit; one bother, John Shull, Lexington; five sisters, Katheryn Barber, Oak Grove, Marjorie Costigan, Blue Springs, and Marian Costigan, Mildred Draskovich and Virginia Kruse, all of Independence; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the ALS Association.
Thelma B. Silsby
Thelma Bell Lane Silsby, 96, Independence, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, at the Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Silsby was born Sept. 24, 1903, in Lamoni, Iowa.
Her survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Junia and Howard Braby, and Margaret and Bill Grice, all of Independence; a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Nancy Silsby, Lamoni; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Alice Chesworth, Independence.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Lamoni RLDS Church. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery, Lamoni. The family suggests memorial contributions in her name to Outreach International. Arrangements are under the direction of the Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home, Lamoni.
WILLETTA N. "BILLIE" CAMPBELL
Willetta N. "Billie" Campbell, 84, Lee's Summit, formerly of Independence, died Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998, at her home.
Mrs. Campbell was born Oct. 2, 1914, in Weir, Kan., and had lived in Independence for many years, moving to John Knox Village in Lee's Summit four years ago. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for 40 years, where she served as deacon and elder. She was also a member of the Heritage Club at Standard State Bank from 1986 to 1988, served as an election judge for Jackson County for more than 10 years, and had been active in the Boys Scouts and Girls Scouts. Her husband, Robert G. Wilson, died in 1994.
Her survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Robert Campbell Jr. and Ann Mehling Campbell, New Providence, N.J.; one daughter, Diane Campbell Sher, Unversity City, Mo.; one sister, Nellie Batt, Winfield, Kan.; and two granddaughters, Meaghan Elizabeth Campbell and Patricia Kathleen Campbell.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 tonight at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.
ARVA L. VINEYARD
Arva Lee Vineyard, 97, Manhattan, Kan., died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, at Stoneybrook Retirement Community, Manhattan.
Mrs. Vineyard was born July 16, 1901, in Pullman, Wash., and had lived for many years in Independence and moved to Ozark, Mo., in the early 1970s and then to Manhattan in 1987. She earned her bachelor's degree in English and her master's degree in Spanish from the University of Missouri, Columbia. She also spent time at the University of Mexico while studying for her master's degree. She taught English for several years in Lima, Peru. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a member of several genealogical and historical societies. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Vineyard on Feb. 14, 1994.
Her survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Fran and David Trujillo, Tacoma, Wash.; and two grandchildren, Sarah Parmley and Scott Parmley.
Cremation with memorial services at a latter date. Inurnment will be near Neosho, Mo., in her family plot. Arrangements are under the direction of the Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home, 1616 Poyntz Ave., Manhattan, Kan. 66502.
RUTH A. OWINGS
Ruth Aliene Owings, 87, Oak Grove, died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1999, at the New Haven Nursing Home, Odessa.
Mrs. Owings was born Feb. 22, 1912, in Bates City. She was a member of the Oak Grove Christian Church where she played the piano and organ for many years. She was a homemaker and had been a volunteer at the Oak Grove Health Care Center. She was First Lady of Oak Grove in 1981. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walker D. Owings in 1958.
Her survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Al Rice, Bates City; a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne "Doc" and Karen Owings, Kansas City; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Oak Grove Christian Church. Burial will be in the Oak Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Royer Funeral Home, Oak Grove. The family suggests memorial gifts to the church in honor of her.
JOSEPH G. SCHNEIDER
Joseph George Schneider, 66, Blue Springs, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999, at his home.
Mr. Schneider was born Oct. 10, 1932, in Chicago. He was in the U.S. Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War. Following the war, he worked at Universal Studios in Hollywood, Calif. He was a member and past post commander of American Legion Post 499, a member of the 32 Degree Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, a member of 40 & 8, and a member of the Ararat Shrine Temple. For 30 years he was involved with the Blue Springs Fall Fun Fest as a past president, vice president and current board member. He retired after 17 years of service with H & R Block as a district manager in August of 1998. Prior to H & R Block, he was owner of The Sandwich Shop in Blue Springs.
His survivors include his wife, Jackie Schneider of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Chris and Jason Van Camp, Lee's Summit, and Pam and Joe Marquez, Blue Springs; a stepson and his wife, Chris and Lynne Wright, Blue Springs; a stepdaughter and her husband, Dawn and Chris Cook, Blue Springs; and grandchildren, Joshua and Justin Van Camp, Taylor Schneider, Kyle, Tyler and Alexa Wright.
Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Royer Funeral Home, Grain Valley. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Royer Chapel.
BLANCHE F. STURGEON
Blanch F. Sturgeon, 79, Lee's Summit, died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1999, at her home.
Mrs. Sturgeon was born Aug. 20, 1919, in Ravena, Neb. She belonged to the Bridge Club, the Summit Singles, and Lee's Summit United Methodist Church. She attended St. Paul's Episcopal Church.
Her survivors include her children, Stephen Scott Sturgeon, Lee's Summit; Jonathon Burke Sturgeon, Nashville, Tenn.; Mary Anne Maschger, Kansas City; and Katheryn Marie Coleman, Pleasant Hill, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Lee's Summit. Burial will be in Lee's Summit cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. The family suggests contributions to St. Anne's Episcopal Church or to the Kansas City Hospice.
JAMES E. ANDERSON SR.
James E. Anderson Sr., 80, Independence, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 1998, at Research Medical Center.
Mr. Anderson was born June 7, 1918, in Chillicothe, Mo., and had lived in this area most of his life. He was an entrepreneur and a Navy veteran of World War II. His wife, M. Allene Anderson, died in 1996.
His survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, James E. Anderson Jr. and Karen Anderson, Independence; a daughter and son-in-law, Carol L. and David Milanesi, Aurora, Colo.; two sisters, Inez Warren, Kansas City, and Mildred Glidden, Spokane, Wash.; three grandchildren, Scott Anderson, Stacy Caldwell and Kelly Englehard; and five great-grandchildren, Connor, Jacob, Cailin, Mackenzie and Jackson.
Inurnment will be 9 a.m. Wednesday at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, Kansas City. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.
KASSANDRA J. BAILEY
Kassandra Judith Bailey, 10, Lake Tapawingo, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 1998.
Kassandra was born May 16, 1988, in El Paso, Texas. She was going to be a fifth grader at William Yates Elementary School. She enjoyed singing and dancing. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Judith Gooding.
Her survivors include her parents, Larry and Leslie Gale, and five brothers, Charles Bailey, Daniel Bailey, Joseph Bailey, Michael Gale and Kris Tanis, all of the home; and her paternal grandparents, James and Ann Gale, Blue Springs.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs. The family suggests contributions to the Kassandra Bailey Memorial Fund.
WANDA F. BUNTON
Wanda F. Bunton, 79, Independence, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 1998.
Mrs. Bunton was born Sept. 29, 1918, in Rogers, Ark. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
Her survivors include her husband of 58 years, Joe Bunton of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia Jo and Howard Taylor, two sisters, Dorine Halstead and Waneta M. Young, and a grandson, Rodney Johnson, all of Independence.

DONALD D. CARTER
Donald D. Carter, 77, Independence, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 1998, at the Medical Center of Independence.
Mr. Carter was born July 6, 1921, in Des Moines, Iowa, and had lived in Independence most of his life. He was a truck driver for many years, working for Chief Truck Lines for several years, retiring in 1975, and was a member of Teamsters Local 41. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
His survivors include his wife, Hazel Carter of the home; four sons, Bobby Don, Donald, Lee and Jeff; four daughters, Joyce, Phyllis, Terri and Roberta; two sisters, Marion Diedrick and Hazel Wheeler; 17 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Cremation. Arrangements are under the direction of the Speaks Suburban Chapel.
