MILDRED E. CROMWELL

Mildred Elizabeth Cromwell, 82, Harrisonville, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Monday, June 1, 1998, at the Golden Years Care Center in Harrisonville.

Mrs. Cromwell was born March 30, 1916, in Troy, Kan., and lived in Independence before moving to Harrisonville in 1980. She and her husband, Earl Cromwell, owned and operated Saniway Vacuum and Sewing Machines in Independence until her retirement in 1980. She

was preceded in death by her husband on April 10, 1996.

Her survivors include one daughter, Earlene Tipton, and two grandsons, Michael Tipton and Robert Tipton, all of Harrisonville.

Cremation. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Crossroads Hospice in Kansas City. Arrangements are under the direction of the Atkinson Funeral Home, Harrisonville.

TABOR L. DAVIS

Tabor Lavern Davis, 87, Independence, died Monday, June 1, 1998, at the Rosewood Health Center.

Mr. Davis was born Feb. 10, 1911, in Vanscoy, Saskatchewan, Canada, and had lived in this area since 1953. He had been a farmer and a carpenter, and was a maintenance worker at the Twin Oaks Apartments for many years. He had been working on his Family Tree, and was a deacon in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and attended the Slover Park congregation. His wife, Doris Lueta Davis, died in 1995.

His survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Walter J. and Kathryn Davis, Independence; four grandchildren, Debra Catalano, Michael D. Davis, Walter Craig Davis and C. Eric Brookens; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews, including Linda A. Woods, Mervin F. Harper, David C. Harper and Jeanne T. Rowe, all of Independence.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Heart Association.

FLOYD E. DENHAM JR.

Floyd E. Denham Jr., 78, Independence, died Monday, June 1, 1998, at the St. Joseph Health Center.

Mr. Denham was born Feb. 17, 1920, in Independence. He was a carpenter all his life, and did missionary work throughout Mexico.

His survivors include his wife of 56 years, Betty L. Denham of the home; five daughters, Barbara Denham, Lawrence, Kan., Sharon Decker, Blue Springs, and Carolene Guzman, Nancy Espinosa and Angelita Sprague, all of Independence; five sons, Floyd E. Denham III, Joseph D. Denham and John I.N. Denham, all of Independence, Nathan E. Denham, Grain Valley, and Jacob R. Denham, Buckner; five sisters, Marjorie Katamura, Angela Dooley, Lois Cerda and Adelia German, all of Independence, and Rosalee Monceda, Texas; two brothers, Bradley Denham, Arizona, and Ollie Denham, Independence; 25 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the George C. Carson & Sons

Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mound Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 tonight at the chapel. Contributions are suggested to the family.

BERNICE I. MORTON

Bernice I. Morton, 84, Troutdale, Ore., formerly of Independence, died Sunday, May 31, 1998, in Troutdale, Ore.

Mrs. Morton was raised in Sibley and Buckner, and lived in Independence before moving to Troutdale in 1956. She was a bookkeeper, retiring in 1979. She volunteered at the Genealogical Forum of Oregon and was active with the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was preceded in death by her husband, Terry L. Morton, in 1993.

Her survivors include two children, Kathryn J. Duncan, Fairview, Ore., and Terry L. Morton Jr., Blue Springs; one sister, Margaret Ainsworth, Austin, Texas; four grandchildren, Deborah Morton, Lesa McClain, Rachel Duncan and Annie Duncan; and one great-granddaughter, Danielle McClain.

Burial was in Douglas Pioneer cemetery, Troutdale. Arrangements were under the direction of the Bateman Carroll Funeral Chapel & Crematory, Gresham, Ore. The family suggests contributions to the Genealogical Forum of Oregon, 2130 S.W. Fifth Ave., Suite 200, Portland, Ore. 97201.

IMOGENE SHARP

Imogene Sharp, 72, Independence, died Sunday, May 31, 1998, at her home.

Mrs. Sharp was born Dec. 22, 1925, in Mountain Grove, Mo., and had lived in Independence since 1956. She was a technician for several optical companies for many years. She was preceded in death by a son, Eddie Sharp Jr. in 1988.

Her survivors include her husband, Edward Sharp of the home; one son, Rick Sharp, Independence; two daughters, Gloria Walk, Lee`s Summit, and Virginia Etzenhouser, Independence; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were today at Woodlawn cemetery. The family suggests contributions to the Federation of the Blind or the American Cancer Society. Arrangements were under the direction of D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel.

RONALD K. WAGENER

Ronald Keith Wagener, 49, Blue Springs, formerly of Independence, died Tuesday, June 2, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mr. Wagener was born June 15, 1948, in Independence. He was vice president of the Acutek Corp. He was a member of the SPE, SAE and the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

His survivors include his wife, Deborah Wagener of the home; his parents, Robert Keith Wagener, Independence, and Mary Loraine Kersey, Shawnee, Kan.; two sons, Ronald Kevin Wagener of the home, and Ryan Keith Wagener, Blue Springs; two sisters, Tracy Belt, Shawnee, and Robin Smith, Olathe, Kan.; six brothers, George Robinson, Olathe, Brian K. Wagener, Robert Wagener and Steven L. Wagener, all of Independence, Richard M. Wagener, Virginia, and Donald D. Wagener; and two grandsons, Riley Kent Wagener and Ryan Kyle Wagener.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs. Burial will be in Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the American Lung Association.

TERESA L. WITTHAR

Teresa Lynne Witthar, 39, Independence, died Thursday, May 28, 1998.

Her survivors include three children, Anneliese Marie, Jared Michael and Chelsey Noelle, all of the home; one brother, Ron Field, Independence; three sisters, Linda Foster, Rawlins, Wyo., Evelyn Eads, Lake Forest, Calif., and Patty Watsabaugh, Tarzana, Calif.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Charter Funeral, Kansas City. Burial will be in Salem cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Witthar Children`s Fund, in care of the father, and may be left at the funeral home.

PAUL A. "Pat" TOTTY

Paul Andrew "Pat" Totty, 83, Independence, died Sunday, Aug. 2, 1998, at the Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Totty was born May 5, 1915, in Independence, and was a lifelong area resident. He had owned and operated a grocery store, and he and his wife, Mary Totty, owned Pat & Mary`s Restaurant in Independence. He also worked for several years at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant before retiring in 1984.

His survivors include his wife, of the home; one son, Bill Totty, Independence; one daughter, Sue Seedorf, McGregor, Minn.; one brother, Jack Totty, Independence; four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Mount Washington cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Gift of Hope Hospice Fund Truman Heartland Foundation, 300 N. Osage, Independence, Mo. 64050.

KATHERINE M. KARNS

Katherine M. Karns, 80, Lee's Summit, formerly of Independence, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1999, at the John Knox Village Care Center in Lee's Summit.

Mrs. Karns was born Nov. 3, 1919, in Independence. She was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church, and its Altar Society. Her husband, Fred J. Karns Sr., died in 1983.

Her survivors include two sons, Fred J. Karns Jr., Lee's Summit, and Richard L. Karns, Kansas City; and six grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet cemetery, Raytown. Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 tonight at the Carson Funeral Home Blue Ridge Chapel, Kansas City, where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m.

HELEN L. LAFFOON

Helen L. Laffoon, 87, Kansas City, formerly of Independence, died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, at the Truman Medical Center-East Care Center.

Mrs. Laffoon was born in Independence. She was a Baptist by faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Laffoon.

Her survivors include several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Salem cemetery, Independence. Arrangements are under the direction of Muehlebach Funeral Home, Kansas City.

BYRON C. MEYER

Byron Carroll Meyer, 64, Mountain Grove, Mo., died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, in Houston, Mo.

Mr. Meyer was born June 11, 1935. He was an over-the-road truck driver for several years. After his retirement, he became a talented, self-taught, tin smith, and produced reproductions from the 1700 and 1800 era.

His survivors include his wife of 26 years, Carolyn Meyer of the home; and one brother, Truman Meyer, Texas.

Service will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Oakland United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Speaks Buckner Chapel.

GERALD L. "JERRY" YOUNG

Gerald L. "Jerry" Young, 47, Independence, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mr. Young was born July 25, 1951, in Kansas City. He had worked as a baker and had also worked in construction. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard, in 1984.

His survivors include his wife, Thelma Frame of the home; two daughters, Cynthia Stocklaufer, Kansas City, and Heather West, Buckner; a son, Jeremy Young, Independence; father, Richard L. Young, Independence; a brother, Michael D. Young, Waynesville, Mo.; a sister, Anita Stockdall, Independence; grandmother, Pearl Stanfield, Independence; and a grandson.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.

WRAYBURN E. CARVER

Wrayburn Emery Carver, 72, Independence, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, at his home.

Mr. Carver was born Oct. 8, 1917, in Fulton, Mo. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and had retired from the Lake City Arsenal.

His survivors include his wife, Ella Juanita Carver of the home; his children, Daniel Carver, Montgomery, Texas, Terri Kerby, Richmond, Va., Donnette Dempsey, Memphis, Tenn., and Tina Ytteborg, Oslo, Norway; his brothers, Claude Elwood Carver, Gladstone, Mo., and Robert Lee Carver, Slater, Mo.; and grandchildren, Jeffrey and Jared Carver, Tike and Dusty Kerby, Dylan Dempsey, and Ulrick and Katrina Ytteborg.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Chapel. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel.

DANIEL R. FYFE

Daniel R. Fyfe, 43, Independence, died Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, at the Valley Manor & Rehab Center, Excelsior Springs, Mo.

Mr. Fyfe had lived in Independence for 28 years before moving to the center two years ago. He was a member of the Waldo Baptist Church, Independence.

His survivors include his wife, "Dee Dee" Fyfe of Lakeland, Fla.; a son, Daniel R. Fyfe, Lakeland; a daughter, Mariar Fyfe, Lakeland; his mother, Dorothy Fyfe, Independence; a sister, Mary Nicolosi, Fort Atkinson, Wis.; and two nephews and a niece.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at New Salem Funeral Home, Independence. Burial will be in New Salem cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

MICHELLE L. BAKER

Michelle Lynn Baker, 20, Blue Springs, formerly of Independence, died Monday, Sept. 15, 1997, near Pleasant Hill, Mo.

Miss Baker was born July 12, 1977, in Kansas City and had lived in the Independence and Blue Springs area most of her life. She had attended Blue Springs Community College and was currently a manager at Arby's in Harrisonville, Mo.

Her survivors include her parents, Jerry and Nancy Baker, a brother, Michael, and a sister, Melissa, all of the home; paternal grandmother, Gladys Burkett, Independence; maternal grandfather, Charlie Roberson, Washington, N.C.; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the chapel.

CLANTHA D. "KAY" SCHLAPPI

Clantha D. "Kay" Schlappi, 70, Independence, died Monday, Sept. 15, 1997, at the Medical Center of Independence.

Mrs. Schlappi was born Oct. 2, 1926, in Melcher, Iowa. She was a homemaker.

Her survivors include three sons, Marvin Schlappi, Bruce Schlappi and Shaun Schlappi; two daughters, Cheryl Sanders and Vickie Carter; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Charter Funerals/Blue Ridge Chapel, Kansas City. Friends may call from 5 to 7 tonight at the chapel.
