BETTY L. SEE MARTIN

Betty L. See Martin, 78, Independence, died Friday, Nov. 13, 1998, at the Blue Springs Care Center.

Mrs. Martin was born March 2, 1920, in Kansas City and lived her entire life in this area. She was a dispatcher and adjuster for Allstate Insurance for 25 years before retiring. She was a member of the Allstate Retirees Club and the Christ United Methodist Church.

Her survivors include one brother, Donald See, Independence; one sister, Doris M. Carey, Tulsa, Okla; and four nephews.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Speaks Suburban Chapel, with burial following in Memorial Park cemetery. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the chapel. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Christ United Methodist Church Organ Fund.

James T. Atkins

James T. Atkins, Odessa, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at his home.

Mr. Atkins was born Jan. 27, 1914, in San Jon, N.M. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Zala Eloise Christy on Jan. 17, 1947, and they resided in Warsaw for more than 50 years until moving to Odessa in 1989. He worked for the Post Office as a clerk and then a carrier in the Warsaw Post Office, retiring in 1969.

His survivors include his wife of 53 years, Zala Eloise Atkins; a daughter and son-in-law, Jeane and Lowell Moore, Odessa; a son and daughter-in-law, James A. 'Tom' and Judy Atkins, Anchorage, Alaska; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Calvary Baptist Church, Odessa. Burial will be in the Odessa cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, Odessa, and memorials may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church, Odessa.

Mary A. Stehwien

Mary Ann Stehwien, 82, Blue Springs, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at St. Joseph's Hospital.

Mrs. Stehwien was born Nov. 19, 1917, in Parshall, N.D., and had lived in this area most of her life. She was a member and deacon of the Woods Chapel Presbyterian Church. She had been an active person in her community, helping many people. She formerly assisted with the Boy Scouts.

Her survivors include her husband of 63 years, Dennis S. Stehwien Sr. of the home; two sons, Dennis S. Stehwien Jr., Raytown, and John L. Stehwien, Corpus Christi, Texas; six daughters, Myrna Taylor, Merriam, Kan., Denise Terry, Clayton, Calif., Elaine Adcock, Kansas City, Shirlie Vaughan and Valerie Stehwien, both of Blue Springs, and Sharyn Whitten, Fort Meyers, Fla., and their spouses; one sister, Herriett Wiberg, Bothell, Wash.; 23 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Floral Hills Chapel, Kansas City. Burial will be in Floral Hills cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the memorial fund at the church.

Bessie M. White

Bessie Mae White, 89, Lexington, Mo., died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at Lafayette Regional Health Center.

Mrs. White was born Dec. 11, 1910, in Hodge, Mo. She married Harmon Lee White on Nov.. 18, 1931. He preceded her in death on July 26, 1990. She had been a resident of Lexington for most of her life. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church, Independence.

Her survivors include a son, Harold L. White, Powersville, Mo.; four daughters, Mary M. Payne, Buckner, Margaret L. Seek, Richmond, Mo., Delores Foltz and Linda S. Fisk, both of Lexington, Mo.; 16 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at New Hope Baptist Church in Independence. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Walker-Nadler Chapel, Lexington. Burial will be in Lexington Memory Gardens, Lexington. Friends may also call from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to New Hope Baptist Mission or Gideons Bible International.

Carol A. Conrow

Carol A. Conrow, 57, Independence, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at Research Medical Center in Kansas City.

She was born March 20, 1942, in Independence and was a lifelong area resident. She had worked for several area newspapers, working for The Odessan for the past 13 years. She had also been a writer for The Kansas City Star and The Examiner. She had been a press secretary for Jerry Litton. She was a member of the Women's Press Corp. and the Missouri Press Women.

Her survivors include her brother, Tom Conrow, Independence; three sisters, Sandra Bellew and Helen Major, both of Independence, and Janice Strever, Kansas City; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will be in Salem cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 tonight at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to the Cancer Action, 1831 Minnesota, Kansas City, Kan. 66102.

Wiley M. Green

Wiley M. Green, 82, Odessa, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at the New Haven Nursing Home, Odessa.

Mr. Green was born Nov. 29, 1917, in Lawson, Mo. He was an auto mechanic and machinist working in several shops around the metro area. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

His survivors include a son, Michael D. Green, Conroe, Texas; and a nephew, Bill Zimmerman, Raytown.

Cremation with private services are under the direction of the Ralph O. Jones Funeral Home, Odessa.

Frances B. Heide

Frances Berneice Heide, 85, Warrensburg, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at Warrensburg Manor Care Center.

Mrs. Heide was born Nov. 3, 1914, in Jackson County, Iowa, and had lived in the Independence area for many years before moving to Warrensburg four years ago. She was a member of the Restoration Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ.

Her survivors include one son, Richard Heide, Warrensburg; nine step grandchildren; 21 step great-grandchildren; and five step great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Park Lawn Funeral Home, Kansas City. Burial will be in Green Lawn cemetery, Kansas City. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Virgil L. Heinecke

Virgil L. Heinecke, 67, Independence, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at Chanute, Kan.

Mr. Heinecke was born Feb. 10, 1932, in Wisner, Neb. He retired from Lake City Ammunition Plant after 28 years of service. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of The Korean Conflict.

His survivors include his wife of 42 years, Barbara J. Heinecke of the home; daughters, Vickie and Terry Thompson, and Sherry and Tony Weir, all of Independence; grandchildren, Jesse, Andy and Ben Weir of Independence, Theresa and Lori Thompson, Kansas, and Melissa Thompson, Independence; one great-granddaughter, Phoenix Thompson, Kansas; three sisters, Magdalin Doescher, Sioux Falls, S.D., June Scadden, Federal Heights, Colo., and Shirley Heinecke, Aurora, Colo.; a brother, Henry 'Butch' Heinecke Jr., Tracy, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the River Boulevard Baptist Church Elevator Fund.

Joseph H. Kiddey

Joseph H. Kiddey, 78, Lee's Summit, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at St. Mary's Hospital of Blue Springs.

Mr. Kiddey was born July 21, 1921, in East Liverpool, Ohio. He was a union painter for 40 years. He was active within his church, including The Joy Sunday school class.

His survivors include his wife of 56 years, Dorothy Kiddey of the home; a daughter, Bonnie Menough, Lee's Summit; one son, Robert Kiddey, Kansas City; one brother, Andrew Kiddey, Louisville, Ky.; a half brother, James Hillyer, East Liverpool; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services were Tuesday at Chapel of Memories Funeral Home, Grain Valley. Burial was in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Grain Valley. The family suggests contributions to the Blue Springs Church of the Nazarene on behalf of Mr. Kiddey.

Hester F. Peterson

Hester F. Peterson, 78, Kansas City, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at her home.

Inurnment services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. The family suggests contributions to the Bishop Sullivan Center, 6435 Truman Road, Kansas City, Mo. 64126. Arrangements are under the direction of the Speaks Suburban Chapel.

Charles W. Price

Charles W. Price, 80, Golden City, Mo., formerly of Independence, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000.

Mr. Price was born Aug. 23, 1919, in Golden City.

His survivors include his wife of 59 years, Mildred N. Price; two daughters, Patricia Turner and Beverly Rowell; a son, Gary Price; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

No services are planned.

ROBERT J. WHITE

Robert J. White, 71, Independence, died Thursday, March 18, 1999, at the Baptist Medical Center, Kansas City.

Mr. White was born July 13, 1927, and had lived most of his life in Independence. For the past six years he had worked for the RJS Security Co., as a security guard at the Price Chopper in south Blue Springs. He was a member of the Wakenda, Mo., Masonic Lodge and was a member of the Odd Fellows of Liberty, Mo. He was a member of the Christian Church of DeWitt, Mo. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines and U.S. Army, having served in World War II and Korea.

His survivors include two daughters, Cindy Hunt, Kansas City, and Kelly Cromley, Independence; two brothers, Bill White, Brunswick, Mo., and Graydon White, Green Valley, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Services were today at Speaks Midtown Chapel. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery in DeWitt. The family suggests contributions to the Salvation Army.

FLOYD J. KLOTZ

Floyd J. Klotz, 86, Independence, died Thursday, July 23, 1999 at Independence Regional Health Center.

Mr. Klotz was born February 22, 1913, in Wellington, Mo. and had lived in Independence the past 30 years. He was a machine operator at Butler Manufacturing before retiring in 1975. He was a member of Harmony Heights Baptist Church in Independence, the American Legion, the V.F.W. and the Masonic Lodge in Lexington, Mo. He served in World War II with the Navy.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Josephine Klotz, in 1973. Survivors include his wife, Bernice Klotz, Independence; daughter, Geraldine Malott, Independence; sons, Randy and Terry Klotz, both of Independence, Gary Klotz, Oak Grove, and Jackie Klotz, Sugar Creek; step-sons, Dick Cronley, Kansas City and Butch Cronley, Independence; step-daughter, Debbie Welch; 12 grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 10 step-great grandchildren.

Friends may call Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. at Snow Funeral Home in Wellington, and again from 10 to 11 a.m., Monday. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Wellington City cemetery.the funeral home.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Harmony Heights Baptist Church, Independence.

OPAL H. LONG

Opal Hays Long, 91, Kansas City, died Friday, July 23, 1999 at the Blue River Care Center.

Mrs. Long was born May 2, 1908, in Skidmore, Mo., and had lived in Nodaway County and Independence. She was a graduate of Northwest Missouri State University at Maryville and received her master's degree in education from Columbia University in New York City. She taught at Bristol Elementary School in Independence and in the Kansas City School District for more than 25 years. She was a member of the DAR, Retired Teachers of Missouri and the Order of Eastern Star. She was a member of First United Methodist Church for more than 45 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett Long, in 1949 and by two brothers, Hollis and Raymond Hays and a sister, Hermione Shipps.

She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Pascuzzi and her husband, Frank, Kansas City; granddaughters Diana McCormick and her husband, James, Clarence, Mo. and Janelle Malik and her husband, Naeem, Overland Park, Kan.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, at the First United Methodist Church of Independence. Graveside services will be 3 p.m., Wednesday at the Burr Oak cemetery, Skidmore, Mo.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time at the church. Contributions may be sent to the First United Methodist Church or the Burr Oak Church, Skidmore.Arrangements by Speaks Suburban Chapel, Independence.

HORACE S. PARR

Horace Stayton Parr, 78, Blue Springs, died Thursday, July 22, 1999, at St. Mary's Manor, Blue Springs.

Mr. Parr was born Sept. 29, 1920, in rural Blue Springs. He was a 1937 graduate of Blue Springs High School, and veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre in New Guinea, Leyte and Luzon, Philippine Islands and Borneo.

He worked at the Amoco Oil Refinery in Sugar Creek for 33 years, retiring in 1979. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Blue Springs, a charter member of Friends of Missouri Town 1855, a member of the State Historical Society of Missouri, and a charter member, Number 1 Lifetime member and past president of the Blue Springs Historical Society. He was a member of American Legion Post 499, a lifetime member and past commander of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6603, and co-founder and past president of the 727th Amphibian Tractor Bn. Reunion Association. He was a former member of the Blue Springs Historic Preservation Committee and the Jackson County Historical Society. He served as an election judge for a number of years.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet.

His survivors include his wife, Patricia A. Davis Parr; one brother, Russell W. Parr; two sisters, Betty D. Peeples and Sharon Morgan; and several cousins, nephews and nieces.

Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs. Burial will be in Blue Springs cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. The family suggests contributions to the Blue Springs Historical Society or the church.
