LORRAINE F. DILL
Lorraine F. Dill, 74, Independence, died Thursday, May 29, 1997, at the Baptist Medical Center in Kansas City.
Mrs. Dill was born Sept. 16, 1922, in Vinland, Kan. She was a member of the Sterling Acres Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Sarah Ledeen and Elva Bradley.
Her survivors include her husband, Gilbert Dill, of the home; one son, Dennis Dill, and one daughter, Betty King, both of Blue Springs; and three grandchildren, Brian, Bradley, and Emily.
Services are 3 p.m. Monday at the Mount Moriah and Freeman Chapel. Burial is at Mount Moriah cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.
MARY F. LAY
Mary Frances Lay, 99, Independence, died Friday, May 30, 1997, at the Medical Center of Independence.
Mrs. Lay was born on Sept. 10, 1897, in Willton, Mo., and lived in Independence for most of her life. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Independence. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Lee Lay, in 1984 and a son, Paul Eugene Lay, in 1994.
Her survivors include a sister, Evelyn Evans, New Haven, Mo.; a grandson, Ron Lay, Napoleon, Mo.; and a granddaughter, Paula Lay, Independence.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at George C. Carsons and Sons Independence Chapel. Burial in Mount Washington cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the First Church of the Nazarene, 10717 E. 23rd St., Independence.
JAMES H. LOOMIS
James "Jim" H. Loomis, 70, Independence, died Friday, May 29, 1997, at the Medical Center of Independence.
Mr. Loomis was born on Jan. 17, 1927, in Galena, Mo., and lived in Independence for most of his life. He worked for the City Block Co. for 18 years and for Barbour Concrete for 15 years before retiring in 1981.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Loomis, of the home; eight daughters, Susie Morton and Penny Barreto, both of Blue Springs, Donna Kay Klotz and Bobbie Joe Loomis, both of Independence, Rita Dunscombe, Hamilton, Mo., Mary Ann Rausch, Olathe, Kan., Verdie Rose Schnoor, Kansas City, and Linda Ellis, Otterville; two sons, Danny and Randy Loomis, both of Kansas City, Kan.; one stepdaughter, Suanne Bradberry, Fullion, Texas; two sisters, Ellen Holt, Galena, and Margie Schneider, Springfield, Mo.; one brother, Gene Loomis, Galena; 25 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services are 1 p.m. Monday at the George C. Carsons and Sons Independence Chapel. Burial is at Oak Ridge Memorial Gardens. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the chapel.
MABLE L.F. NOLAND
Mable Leonne Fritz Noland, 81, Independence, died Thursday, May 29, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Noland was born Dec. 27, 1915, in Inman, Kan., and lived most of her life in Independence. She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Gerva Mae Fritz and Betha Wernex.
Survivors include her husband, Earl Noland, of the home; a daughter, Ann Elisa Noland, Independence; two sisters, Frances Stockdale and Helen Schreiber, both of Independence.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel. Graveside services and burial are 3:30 p.m. Monday at Mount Olive cemetery, Troy, Kan. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the chapel. Memorial contributions can be made to the Westminster Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund.
MARIE W. ROBERTSON
Marie W. Robertson, 86, Independence, died Friday, May 30, 1997, at Columbia Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Roberston was born on Dec. 15, 1910, in Lenexa, Kan. She had lived in the Independence area for 55 years, including the Blue Springs Nursing Home for the past 14 years. She was a sales clerk for J.C. Penney for more than 25 years before retiring in 1972. She was a member of St. Mary`s Catholic Church in Independence and the Altar and Rosary Society. She was a preceded in death by her husband, Gerald William Robertson, in 1983.
Her survivors include a son, William E. Robertson, Independence; a daughter, Rita Blankenship, Independence; a brother, Arthur Strumpff, and a sister, Edith Gast, both of Lenexa; and three grandchildren.
Services will 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary`s Church. Burial in Woodlawn cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday at D.W. Newcomer`s Sons Noland Road Chapel, where a rosary will be said at 3 p.m.
RICHARD SCARBOROUGH
Richard "Dick" Harrison Scarborough, 64, Raytown, died Thursday, May 29, 1997 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City.
He was born April 19, 1933, in Slater, Mo. He worked for Yellow Freight Lines for 30 years. He was a 32nd-degree Mason in Lodge 391 in Raytown. He was also a member of the Ararat Shrine, Antique Tractor Club and the local Machinist union.
Survivors include his wife, Terry Scarborough, of the home; three sons, Rick Scarborough, Pleasant Valley, Mo., and Gibson Scarborough and Ed Scarborough, both of Liberty, Mo.; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Services are 7 p.m. June 8 at the Raytown Masonic Lodge. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to the Shriners Wings of Mercy or Shriners Children`s Hospital.
ED L. WOOD
Ed L. Wood, 63, Bates City, Mo., died Friday, May 30, 1997, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.
He was born in Cedar Ridge, Colo., and had lived in the Kansas City area for the past 30 years. He was a mechanic welder for Allied Systems, a member of the Teamsters union, and a Baptist. He was preceded in death byhis wife, LaVerne Wood, last year.
His survivors include one stepson, Everett Bake, Oak Grove; two nephews, Douglas and Dennis Strein; one niece, Gwendolyn; two grandchildren, Jeff Bake and Jennifer Umland; and five great-grandchildren, Kayla, Matthew, Luke and Jonathan Umland, and Mason Bake.
Services are 2p.m. Monday, Royer Funeral Home`s Oak Grove Chapel. Burial is at Oak Grove cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
CARL D. DAVIS
Carl Denny Davis, formerly of Independence, died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 1999, at Mid-America Rehabilitation Hospital.
Mr. Davis was born in 1916 in Independence and had lived in Independence for most of his life. He earned a bachelor's degree in linguistics from the University of Kansas in 1938, where he was a member of Delta Chi fraternity. He also attended the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and received his law degree from Kansas City University in 1941. He was admitted to the Federal Bar in 1942. He was employed by the Kansas City Transit Co. for more than 35 years as tahe company attorney and director of the claims department. He then went into a private law practice for more than 15 years as a bankruptcy specialist, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Kansas City Bar Association and the Missouri Bar Association. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Independence. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Frances Davis in 1989.
His survivors include two daughters, Carol Anne Hobbs, Richmond, Va., and Mary M. Wickersham, Prairie Village, Kan.; and three grandchildren.
MARDEN L. "CURLEE" ELKINS
Marden L. "Curlee" Elkins, 60, Independence, died Monday, Nov. 16, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Elkins was born July 4, 1938, in Kansas City, Kan., and had lived most of his life in the Independence area. He was athe owner and operator of Business Computer Consultants. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
His survivors include his wife, Sandra Elkins of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Caron L. and Dan Rode, Excelsior Springs, Mo.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Stephan D. and Deborah Elkins, Independence, Jeffrey D. and Staci Elkins, Lee's Summit, Derek A. and Wendi Elkins, Grain Valley; his mother, Mary Stephans, Loma Vista, Calif.; two brothers, Jim Elkins, Chino, Calif., and John Elkins, Los Angeles; two sisters, Judy Walia, Hacienda Heights, Calif., and Margie Stuckey, Albuquerque, N.M.; and nine grandchildren, Alicia, Bret, Erin, Colby, Stephan, Joshua, Emily, Rylee and Michael.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to Children's Mercy Hospital.
COLETTA "PAT" GRESHAM
Coletta "Pat" Gresham, 78, Blue Springs, died Monday, Nov. 16, 1998, at St. Mary's Hospital of Blue Springs.
Mrs. Gresham was born May 29, 1920, in Rogers, Ark. She was a graduate of the University of Arkansas. She had worked as a school teacher, an assistant sales manager for K.C. Nut and Screw, a sales administrator for Russell Stover Candies, and most recently as business manager for Consensus, Inc., retiring in 1985. She was a charter member of the Church of the Resurrection, Episcopal, Blue Springs. She was a charter member and past president of the Pilot Club of Blue Springs and a past KS-MO District Governor of Pilot International. She was a past member of the Eastern Star, Parkville, Mo., past President of the Auxiliary of VFW Ship 6900, life member of the Auxiliary of VFW Post 6603, Blue Springs, and past Ladybug of the Cooties 17.
Her survivors include her husband of 56 years, Lawrence F. Gresham of the home; two sons, Bruce Ward Gresham and Lawrence Dewitt Gresham, both of the home; a daughter, Merry Pat Woolverton, Annandale, Va.; her brother, Dr. Bort Allinder, Oak Grove; two sisters, Agnes Baughn, Hot Springs, Ark., and Lorene Thompson, Midwest City, Okla.; and three grandchildren, Shannon Joiner, Paula Thole and Nathan Woolverton.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Church of the Resurrection, Episcopal, Blue Springs; cremation. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Blue Springs Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the church's building fund.
FRANCES F. CONLEY
Frances F. Conley, 80, Independence, died Friday, Oct. 29, 1999, at Independence Manor Care Center.
She was born May 15, 1919, in Wichita, Kan., and had lived in Independence for most of her life. She was a member of the Salvation Army and had served as a bell ringer.
Graveside services were today at Mount Washington cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel.
FRANKLIN E. ELLIOTT
Franklin Elwood Elliott, 84, Grain Valley, died Monday, Aug. 10, 1998, at St. Mary`s Hospital of Blue Springs.
Mr. Elliott was born Nov. 9, 1913, in Grain Valley. He was a receiving manager for K Mart for 10 years, retiring in 1976. He was past president of the Grain Valley School Board, and a member of the CCC. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Mae Elliott in 1986, and a son, Franklin Elliott Jr.
His survivors include four sons, C.P.O. Robert Elliott, Sunrise Beach, Mo., Claude Elliott, Buckner, Dr. Dan Elliott, Fayette, Mo., and Dr. Ed Elliott, Warrensburg, Mo.; two daughters, Judy L. Force, Bellevue, Neb., and Diana Hash, Columbia, Mo.; three sisters, Erma Cross, Maxine Meador and Lorene Rowley, all of Independence; one brother, Noel Vern Elliott, Fresno, Calif.; 24 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Grain Valley Christian Church. Burial will be in Grain Valley cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 tonight at Webb-Freer Funeral Home, Blue Springs. The family suggests contributions to the Grain Valley cemetery Association.
WILMA M. EASTEP
Wilma Maxine Brummett Eastep, 83, Independence, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999, at the Independence Regional Health Center.
Mrs. Eastep was born in Rich Hill, Mo., and had lived in the Independence area since 1946. She was a paralegal assistant for the Kansas City School Board, retiring in 1986. She was a member of Birchwood Baptist Church and had also attended the First Baptist Church of Raytown. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Janice E. Ross in 1998.
Her survivors include one daughter, Vickie Richardson, Independence; three grandchildren, Michael, Jana and Jeneane; and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society.
RONALD G. STARCHMAN
Ronald Gene Starchman, 53, North Kansas City, died Tuesday, March 2, 1999.
Mr. Starchman was born May 21, 1945, in Joplin, Mo. He worked in sales for Industrial Bearings Distribution, and was an avid fisherman.
His survivors include one daughter, Rhonda Rice, Independence, one brother, Gary Starchman, St. Joseph, Mo.; his mother, Ginger Maxwell, Raymore, Mo.; five grandchildren, Gregory Rice, Jason and Aliscia Starchman, Brittney Rice and Derek Starchman; and a special friend, Delmar Hasse.
Services will be 8 p.m. Friday at the George C. Carson & Sons Independence Chapel. Friends may call from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the chapel.
WILMA L. RODGERS
Wilma Leona Rodgers, 60, Independence, died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at Research Medical Center, Kansas City.
She was born Aug. 23, 1938, in Independence. She was a member of the Baptist Church and served as a Missionary in Africa for many years.
Her survivors include two sisters, Ruth Marie Parker, Sugar Creek, and Virginia Sue Lynn, Holden, Mo.; a brother, Richard Allen Rodgers, Independence; and aunts and uncles, Grace and Lawrence Srader, Marie and Orville Butler and Juanita Casey.
Services were Tuesday at Rockwood Baptist Church in Independence. Burial was in Mound Grove cemetery. The family suggests floral tributes or contributions to the Baptist International Mission Board, P.O. Box 6767, Richmond, Va. 23230-0767.
DAVID L. STARK SR.
David Lee Stark Sr, 60, Independence, died Friday, Sept. 11, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Stark was born Sept. 17, 1937, in Independence. He worked for the Independence School District.
His survivors include a son, David L. Stark Jr., Independence; two daughters, Michele Hawks, Florence, Mo., and Peggy Mulkey, Greenwood; his mother, Edna Stark, Independence; his children`s mother, Jerry L. Stark, Independence; and three grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Thursday at the Eden Heights RLDS Church, Sea Avenue and Saville Street. Burial is pending at Mound Grove cemetery. Flowers will be received at New Salem Funeral Home.
